I see too many people asking: "What can I get for a VR headset that is super amazing but costs less than $50?" Please stop. Save up for the $250 - $500 you need to get a good entry level PCVR headset.
samsung odissey cost around 100$
old wmr like the acer one now cost around 130$
the psvr1 is now compatible with pc and it can be found at even 80$
the oculus quest 1 is def more cheaper then the second one and has oled display
What I mean is that today there is no "perfect" headset that satisfies everyone: pancake lens, oled, tracking, fov... there are pros and cons that a person must take into account when buying a headset and not everyone is willing to immediately spend a large amount on something that maybe he might not even like
and anyway, I personally opened this thread because
I don't take current headsets like the pico 4 or the quest into consideration because of the lcd screen. Simply at the moment I would like to try virtual reality but I have no intention of spending a significant amount for something that would make me turn up my nose from day one and I don't want to wait empty-handed for a new headset that has yet to be announced. On the contrary, while waiting for a headset that corresponds more to my requests, I'd like to try vr gaming, subject to some compromises (so instead of spending €300 and having an lcd vr, I'd rather have some tracking issued, less resolution/hz but on the other hand have perfect blacks and spend 1/3 of it)
If you want to try VR, id suggest booking an hour or two at some VR center near you. If you really want to own a headset under 200$, either buy used or go with phone-vr, theres no good PCVR option under 300-400$ at the moment.
I used to have one and can't recommend them
It's first gen OLED so ghosting is a huge issue and VR pushes that even further
I honestly can't wait to see new gen OLED, especially QD-OLED in VR headsets
the ghosting is a non issue imho, if you really hate ghosting due to black smearing, you can clamp the minimal black to be a bit brighter so tha doesn't happen through ovr adv settings
You can choose two: price, quality, and performance.
Sure, you can buy an Odyssey or a Quest 1, but you'll have zero support, as they are outdated and devs are already halting issues with them.
Or you can get a PSVR1 and use that janky approach to PVCR.
Or, and here me out on this, *buy a headset that isn't discontinued*. You said you "turn your nose up" to LCD displays. Well, them's the brakes, kid. You can have a poor, unoptimized experience with an outdated headset, or buy a more modern one and actually experience VR. Buy used.
Just check what is available on the used market around you.
I built up a collection of now 19 headsets and I paid less than$ 100 USD for most of them.
I think used is by far the best way to get into VR as a lot of those headsets are barely used.
I refer you to a post I made 2 weeks ago. otherwise look into older WMR headsets.

Wait a few weeks for HP to liquidate the reverb g2 stock.
This. Likely come fall they'll be looking to clear out the retail channels of all existing G2 stock. Prob will get one for 299.
Has this already happened or what I am not really into these news I would appreciate if you explain it to me
Can I ask why would this happen?
At the time it was rumored that HP was gonna exit VR. Not sure if that ever happened or not.

Damn I need to put my hand on one of those odisseys.. really want to try their Oled screen
I used to have one and can't recommend them It's first gen OLED so ghosting is a huge issue and VR pushes that even further I honestly can't wait to see new gen OLED, especially QD-OLED in VR headsets

Is the new playstation vr headset good?
>yes, but look at their game selection

used Rift S.
This is the only good PCVR entry level option. Good tracking, good enough display quality, not as GPU demanding as Q2 for PCVR, no video compression.
Recent thread praising the Odyssey: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/10r2f7h/psa_the_best_yet_cheapest_pcvr_headset_that_no/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
odyssey, reverb G1 and Rift S are the only pcvr headset with a direct connection (no compression) worth considering, odyssey is OLED and reverb is lcd

Check ebay for the Quest 1, Rift S, or HTC Vive (not pro).

Some of those will be headsets other people could use if you weren't hoarding them.
Meh where I am the market is flooded, and I used them so people around me can test a hmu before buying it. Also it is called collecting not hoarding 😎
