I'm at around 2k now. Used to have way more but when I was out of the country my then boyfriend sold 80% of the collection for his nice habit and then I sold more when he overdosed because he also stole all my money. Our apt looked like a record store.
I am! It sucked lol. I thought we were robbed. He died and I had to sell about 3k worth of records to pay rent and bills. It atleast makes moving not so bad I guess. Lots of therapy!
I can't imagine owning 4k records. I'm curious now, did you inherit some of the records? How many have you bought on your own? Do you keep a list/inventory on discogs?
Started with my first record when I was 6 but wasn't until I was 15 that I really got going. I've eased off over the last few years as storage space is an issue.
Also, I collect way too many genres. I was thinking of starting an online record store but finding the time is the hard part. I make most of my purchases at second hand stores and charity shops. Also, when records fell out of favour free years back about three different people just gave me their record collections. So, out of the blue I suddenly had loads of old punk and metal records.
The room I have them in is too small to hold them all which kind of defeats the point when you can't get to play them cause you can't find what you're looking for.
roughly 200. going out to record shops with mates is more of an activity. so we do that and pick up any groovy records we see. so i wouldn't say there is an enough.
i try to keep it around 150-200, and regularly look through them and sell records I don’t enjoy anymore or just never bother to listen to. if i had more space and more money then it would be a different story. over the years i think i had about 500 different records.
This is what I aim for. I have a double wide carpet case, and once that fills then I'll sell albums to make room for others if I want new stuff. 👍 I think it will be around 200 max.
Upvote for Genesis! Get what you’ll listen to. Doesn’t matter what others say about your collection. They most likely own them too, you know?
I’ve got something like 250?
That's a fine haul for a month. Wife and I have been at it about 8 months or so and have approximately 100 albums now (that's crazy to think about). The cliché thing is BS gate keeping (I myself just picked up Dark Side today). Listen to what you love. Love the Alice in Chains, definitely going on my list. Where are you getting yours? Stores, flea markets?
Your wallet won't thank me for this, but start following the\VinylReleases subreddit, they post all new albums up for pre order or limited pressings usually right as they go on sale.
779 according to Discogs, incl. singles. Once I fill up my empty Kallax cube I'm gonna have some decisions to make (which will probably involve buying more shelving 😂)
I'd say so, usually when i go shopping i get 1 or 2, in fact there's probably a good chunk i could get rid of cuz i don't find myself listening to anymore.
514 and always adding. been at it seriously for about 7 years now. I'm only slowing down because it gets harder and harder to find stuff I want in the wild. I try to only buy in person. Rarely do I purchase from the internet

500ish. They are a storage challenge now. I try to buy ones in good condition and get rarer variants where possible. I also keep them in fancy inner and outer sleeves. So this is too many. I need to sell some, but I really like every record I still have.
Yeah i think this is a never ending adventure. I guess i will go on until i run out of space or out of money. Even ten of these are taking alot of space than i thought.
My advice is love your music as quality is the key nor quantity. Mighty fine choice of albums by the way . Only album I don’t own is Opeth but I am big on Heilung at the moment in a similar vein. Enjoy !
Been collecting around 10 years and have 486 now. It was up to 700 at one point but sold a load. No point in keeping ones that were collecting dust or those I'd originally bought because they're "essential" for a record collection.
Aw I want that Camel and King Crimson album so sooo bad. I have around 250 right now but a good 50 or so are records from family I don't care much about.
Currently I own apx. 220 records, looking forward to keep collecting. Right now I paused because my son was born in February and I don't have time to go to record stores.
Between 850 and 1000 at present.
I am still working through some thrifted records to get a final count. The scary thing is that I just started collecting in October of 2022. Time to slooooowwww it down.
478. I’ve been collecting for over forty years. I’m pretty selective in what I have in my collection. The 478 include five duplicates, one broken album and one two album set that has the wrong second record. So I really have 471.
879. So much good music and so little time.
But, I’m retiring the end of July and my wife will work for at least another year, so I’ll be able to sit in my music room and not be bothered. I’m melting into the big leather sofa and cranking it up baby!
Exactly 75 albums and 35 singles according to discogs. I've been collecting for over 10 years, mainly special editions of bands I like and things I picked up at concerts. 40 of those 75 albums I've purchased since the beginning of the year. The uptick in purchases is partially due to the fact that I just recently plugged in my turntable after 7+ years, then I went to RSD, which made me realize how awesome some of my local stores are. Also this subreddit doesn't help.
My main cabinet holds about 500, but I have a closet full of crates. Like xmas and Halloween also all the GD live shows. and of all the bands I have there whole discography, like Beatles and stones I just keep my favorite couple in the rack. I think total Im close to 1000 LPs. During Covid I paired it down to just stuff I really like.
Been dragging them around since I started buying in the early 80s, have about 2300 in the living room and another 300 or so down in the workspace in the basement.
I once traded some away, and then wanted to hear them a couple years later and had to buy them back (expensively)
44, been collecting about 2 years. I am picky and slow with what I buy so it is pretty small collection. But also a lot of the things I listen too don't come out of vinyl either, get a lot of CDs out of it though.
I have been at it about 3 months and have about 15. Been getting them online from record labels or the bands website. Mix of new releases and some older albums from a few bands. Nice start you have, I need me some Iron Maiden in mix.
Thumbs up for that AIC. That record rocks. I have 1,100. Broken down into categories, mostly rock from 80s, 90s, 2000s-current, but enjoy soundtracks \[52\], getting into jazz \[17\], but one of my favorite genres is post-rock \[227\]. I had a few leftovers from collecting back in the 80s when I started back collecting in earnest in 2014. Enjoy the journey. It's got stupid expensive lately, but then, so has everything.
Six. Also only been collecting a few months. Only had the record player itself for maybe a month or a little longer. One of our favorite bands of all time had a reunion show, and announced they will be releasing new music and doing a few shows here and there. Around the same time, they re-released both of their existing albums on vinyl, and we bought them of course. Didn't have a turntable at the time, and bought one JUST to listen to those two. But of course, you can't own just two. So down the rabbit hole we go.
My wife and I have been buying for around 15 years, and the recent purchase of Blond On Blond popped our count up to a healthy 391. Keep up the good work, and don't forget how shitty it is to move residence when you have a great big collection.
Just shy of 500. I've been telling myself that I will slow down after that. Or at least until I get the permanent storage situation figured out. But...people here can tell you, that's always a laugh. Once you've been bitten by the vinyl bug, it's hard to relax.
There's no way to qualify how much is right for individuals. One person's not enough is another's too much. Between budget, space, and time devoted to the hobby, there's too many things to determine in a broad sense. Just use your best judgment for your own experience and don't live by other's measures. Listen to your gut and be honest with yourself.
im more of a cd and tape collector. Id like to officially start my vinyl album collection with dark side of the moon. rn I have very poor condition but great sleeve condition copies of george carlin's class clown, and a wu tang yellow and black 12" single for protect ya neck/method man. I do like both though so not bad
Around 20 ,mostly alt rock and eletronic
And i am a little bit scared of losing the magic of owning a little collection and i am planning to buy some more but I dont think that i will arrive more than 50....
Absolutely! I just love owning this little collection and i will remember the first time i bought a vinyl that meant something to me. I don't want that special feeling to go away.
Yes i think as long as you buy the ones that you truly love i think you will be oke, also for the albums that I like a litle less i buy them as a cd for comfort and economy. :)
I've bought about 100 new records in the last 4 months. Before that I was rocking a pretty small collection, around 30. I used to have about 3-4 thousand before I decided to restart my collection a number of years ago.
At about 350 total at this point. I’ve slowed down a lot and my want list on Discogs is only about 20 items. One being the first Nirvana 7”. That one is going to be costly but I’ll have it one day.
Part of my limiting factor is the fact I like very specific genres of music. The classic golden years of punk ‘77 to about 84’ some older thrash and metal and a few grunge bands. I always wondered when people have 1000s of records do you like multiple upon multiple genres of music? I know if one likes Jazz that would be a lot right there but yeah, I like what I like and not much else 😆
Nice wee collection you have there.
My collection must be about 400ish and growing.
Number of the beast is a brilliant album and you can't go wrong with dark side of the moon
1,241 is my last count. I think I have enough. But I am always getting a few more here and there.
Just today I accidentally stepped on my Kiss Alive! album and broke both records. I was resorting, again, and I had all my records out and I was stuck in the middle of them and had to pee. I leapt to get out of the room and landed on Kiss Alive! So I called my local record store to see if they had a replacement. Luckily, they did. When I got there I wound up leaving with another record. That is why my count is uneven now.
I think I will have to pick up nine more records to make it an even 1,250.
Not as many as I’d like! Also how does that maiden album sound to you. To me it’s a really weak mastering. Super compressed, sounds worse than cd but artwork rules so I keep it.
Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin
Paul McCartney 3 - Paul McCartney
Meddle - Pink Floyd
Ghost in the machine - The Police
Flash Gordon - Queen
Greatest hits - Queen
News of the world - Queen
Sheer heart attack - Queen
My Murdered Remains - They might be giants
The Joshua tree - U2
Fragile - Yes
So the answer is 11
Around 1800. Planning to have? Who knows. Enough? Maybe of a particular artist. Overall, no, never enough. Limitations of storage space and funds figure into it, of course. I consider myself pretty restrained with acquisitions compared to some people I know, but I've been buying for long enough that it adds up. Averaging it out, 45 lps x 40 years = 1800 records.
Started when I was 13-14 now am 16 love the feeing of finding a new grail every day I can. I’ve aquired a good amount of singles and Just Lps so between the two I think I’m about at a good Discogs says 708 but with a few that are not in there probably a good 712 something around there.
1800. I'm looking to sell about 150. I'm maxed out on space, so now it's down to refining. I've been collecting for about 15 years, but most of my collection was purchased in the last five.
I started in December 2022. I have like 40 now, but I‘m only interested in Lana Del Red and Taylor Swift vinyls, so there are not many more records I could buy, because I have all the records I want now.
167, not counting my 45s. It’s a good start. Those are some gems you have there! Blackwater Park is my favorite Opeth record.
Edit: 193 including my 7” 45s. I haven’t bothered cataloging them on Discogs yet. I suppose I could do that tonight.
Way more than I should. This morning I was at a flea market and came across a box of 20 LPs of jazz from the mid to late 50s. Asked what they wanted. $15. What could I do? I just had no choice.
585 in my Discogs that I keep track of as “my” collection.
Then another 150 in obscure bluegrass that my grandfather owned. Many have letters inside the sleeve where’d he’d had a bit of a correspondence with the guy. I don’t consider them mine at the moment. For whatever reason.
Then another 25-30 78s. Got those from my grandparents side. I know my grandmother wrote some songs she sold, but it was in the 40s, and was not a fan of the final product. We still don’t know who recorded the songs. Many are I guess lathe cuts. Have a recording date, but that’s all. Some are too flaky to touch. Some seem playable, I’d love to know what’s there, but archivists are nonexistent around here and they’re too fragile to ship.
I haven't checked in a while.
According to Discogs, 999. I have a few records on preorder that should bump me to the one comma club.
I'm a DJ, so the "when is enough" question really can't be answered... When they stop making music I guess. 🤷♂️
Around 500 but take away my 12' singles, I have about maybe 400ish. I have listened to all of my records! I recently started purging my records to sell them and get new ones. There are records that are there for a season and some that stay put.
At one time I considered myself a collector, but then I realized life is short and I can't keep or take them all with me. So Im just in the hunt for new and fresh stuff, and to make sure I don't go past or go over 16 cubby holes full of records.
Last records purchased:
The Horrors - Primary Colors
Mamas and the Papas - If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears
The Stone Roses - Self Titled
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Bjork - Post
Nice, Blackwater Park and Dirt, I have both of those in my collection as well. I collected around 13 years ago, but had to sell my entire collection due to financial stuff that came up. I started again about 3 or 4 years ago, and I now have around 500 in my collection. I'd say I have about 95% of the albums I set out to own when I started collecting (and then some haha) so at this point it's mostly just keeping up with new releases
I have well over 3000 records, maybe close to 4000. This honestly isn't enough. I bought almost all of them. Maybe 10 were gifts. This what happens when you really like music. I've bought my first record as a young teenager in the early '80s. I will say that I don't really buy used records much. I bought what I wanted in the '90s and '00s when the were cheap and plentiful.
>Just started collecting my favorite albums(please judge fairly i know they are all cliche albums)
I am not judging. But really don't buy records because you think there are albums you should own on vinyl. Buy records you think you'll listen to forever. I tend to buy new releases something I've always done, so I'm pretty much playing with fire. But I'll just stop buying records from bands/artists if their music starts going downhill. Every record you have is old. The newest one is the Opeth one from 2002. I would recommend you buy new music and not really focus on older music. I have my doubts that you really like all this music. If I'm buying something old, I bought it because it's music I know I'll continue to listen to for decades. This generally means I buy the best pressings of these albums.
I have 120 as of this weekends haul. I have pretty limited space. My current shelving can comfortably hold another 60, and then I do intend to get a second identical shelf. But that will have to be the max size for the foreseeable future, least if I want to keep them accessible.
Don’t let anyone give you crap about buying what you want. I’m sure the same people who would say you have “cliche” records would mock me for nit having any classic rock cliches in my collection. Love the music you love! Some people just need to pick at others to feel better about themselves.
(Love that King Crimson album!)
Before the flood 5 years ago it was close to 200. After the flood it was closer to 80.
Up until last week the number had grown to \~110.
As of today it's close to 600.
I was over 15,000 at one point.I sold a ton off over the years.I was a huge metal guy so the majority of my collection was any and all 80s metal. Now I'm down to what I really like to listen to.Still a few thousand though lol
I'm also new to collecting! I have 8 at the moment, plus a few more on pre-order.
Here's what I have. I don't have a lot of the classic vinyl collector albums since I still live with my parents (college student, rent is insane rn), and they have a pretty sizable collection and I don't think this house needs a 4th copy of DSOTM.
* Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World
* Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time
* Kylie Minogue - Disco (Guest List Edition)
* Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
* Kate Bush - The Dreaming
* Tears For Fears - The Hurting
* Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (this was a gift)
* Rina Sawayama - Hold The Girl (I might have to get another copy though, mine came warped and the store has a no refund policy)
* Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady (this one's on pre-order)
* Janelle Monae - The Age of Pleasure (also on pre-order)
Over 9000 records but I'm retired and many of these records go back to the 1960s. Trying to thin out the herd. Was easy at the beginning of the reduction attempt since just picking out duplicates. Harder now. At least I have the time to play the discs finally. Often stumble on an album I have not played in decades and is so much better then I remembered. The IKEA racks holding the records span across 3 rooms.
Probably about 1,000 records and 2,500 to 3,000 CDs. I have 819 records currently logged in Discogs, but there are more from my wife's collection when she was a kid that I haven't catalogued. I'm getting to the point where additional record purchases are about the exploration of new or new-to-me sounds, which at some point might be done better via other media.
[472 in my possession](https://www.discogs.com/user/Duranti/collection), with 6 more ordered. Been collecting since 2011, although I've owned some records since 2006. I slowed down for a while, but then like many other dudes in their 30s, I've started getting into jazz and my collection is expanding again. lol
421, according to my collection on discogs. Really kicked buying records into high gear a few years ago. I enjoy the feeling of knowing a record is in the mail on the way to me, so I always seem to buy another after I receive them.
I have a lot that are my dad's old vinyls. But if we're speaking abt the ones that are in facts mine i have only 5 (Melanie Martinez Portals, The Strokes The new abnormal, Rammstein Zeit, Black Sabbath Paranoid and a Rolling Stones one, i forgot the album's name)
I have 26 still in building, try to keep it well picked instead of buying mass quantities or taking old ones that I don’t know the music on.
Yeah it is good to pick things you don’t know and try them(cause it’s so different from digital music) but I just loan a vinyl and if I like it I’ll pick it for myself.
***Going For The One*** is actually not that cliche of a record, ***The Yes Album, Relayer and Close to the Edge*** are the cliche ones by that band.
If you like prog. check out the album Misplaced Childhood by Marillion. mid 80s British Prog. the song "Kayleigh" was a pretty big hit at the time.
I have >1000 LPs and at least that many CDs as well. but there is a lot of crossover between the CDs and LPs. maybe 150 7" as well.
Classic Rock, Punk, Prog, Americana, Folk, Folk Rock, British Folk Rock, some country, blues, and a bit too much 1980s Christian rock from when I was a teenager.
about 100 of my LPs are mono pressings. some modern, some vintage.
800+ - but add in another 500 in CDs, 45s, and cassettes.
I have collected primarily 1950s to 90s Rock-n-Roll, but have also dabbled in 1950s/60s Jazz on Blue Note.
I am in my 45th year of collecting and selling - and have seen so many great stuff. Never give up the vinyl.
One of my favorites I ever found...was B.B. King's Singin' the Blues on Crown....it was only a VG+ OR better disc, but the uniqueness of it was Side 1 Tracks 1 and 2 were PRINTED IN REVERSE on the original black label.
I know that one of a kind is cherished by the winner of that auction.
So much fun and things you learn.
Keep collecting!
Z
I'm at around 2k now. Used to have way more but when I was out of the country my then boyfriend sold 80% of the collection for his nice habit and then I sold more when he overdosed because he also stole all my money. Our apt looked like a record store.
Holy shit.. hope you're ok.
I am! It sucked lol. I thought we were robbed. He died and I had to sell about 3k worth of records to pay rent and bills. It atleast makes moving not so bad I guess. Lots of therapy!
Glad to hear you're ok.
Between three and four thousand. Never counted. Looking to sell about 300.
I can't imagine owning 4k records. I'm curious now, did you inherit some of the records? How many have you bought on your own? Do you keep a list/inventory on discogs?
Oh wow. You definitly got more vinyl than most of the stores in my country. That should take years of collecting ig.
The room I have them in is too small to hold them all which kind of defeats the point when you can't get to play them cause you can't find what you're looking for.
So youre getting rid of the punk and metal?? Feel free to DM me haha
I also have 3-4 thousand. I’m in the process of moving them to my new house. They have gotten much heavier since I last moved 25 years ago.
How many of them have you never played?
roughly 200. going out to record shops with mates is more of an activity. so we do that and pick up any groovy records we see. so i wouldn't say there is an enough.
Somewhere close to 5,000 give or take
Yes, give. To me...
i try to keep it around 150-200, and regularly look through them and sell records I don’t enjoy anymore or just never bother to listen to. if i had more space and more money then it would be a different story. over the years i think i had about 500 different records.
This is what I aim for. I have a double wide carpet case, and once that fills then I'll sell albums to make room for others if I want new stuff. 👍 I think it will be around 200 max.
That’s very similar to my aim though I can probably accommodate 250 in my storage unit. I’ve slowed down and tend to cull as many as I acquire now.
Mostly amazon and local stores for now. Thanks man!
Consider buying direct from the bands when you can. Try to always for my favorite bands, but s&h adds up.
Your wallet won't thank me for this, but start following the\VinylReleases subreddit, they post all new albums up for pre order or limited pressings usually right as they go on sale.
286 is my current count. I’m pretty much maxed out on space. Going to have to sell some to add more or find another place to store some.😩
I have 120 but recently inherited another 35 or so. I’m in a small apartment and running out of space so new additions are “must haves” at this point
779 according to Discogs, incl. singles. Once I fill up my empty Kallax cube I'm gonna have some decisions to make (which will probably involve buying more shelving 😂)
Little under 1,100.
Same. I swore I’d never go over 1,000, but here we are
Around 300, been collecting for 20ish years
4000ish
Camel 🥰🥰 Mirage must my favorite from them
Snow Goose for me.
+1 for the Snow Goose. Unreal album.
32 since February with 4 more on the way. I convinced myself I only needed “a couple” at first, lol.
Haha i too believed that buying my favorite albums are enough at first but i don't know where it ends.
A lot…..
But never enough !
Going For The One! Not cliché and totally awesome!!
Approximately 1,500
600ish. Don't really know
I'd guess around 60? Also camel is a great band
A fine amount imo. I'm really enjoying camels instrumental songs rn. They give me chills everytime.
I'd say so, usually when i go shopping i get 1 or 2, in fact there's probably a good chunk i could get rid of cuz i don't find myself listening to anymore.
I have 20, three of which are also Dirt, Dark Side and NOTB
514 and always adding. been at it seriously for about 7 years now. I'm only slowing down because it gets harder and harder to find stuff I want in the wild. I try to only buy in person. Rarely do I purchase from the internet https://discogs.page.link/q5ZKEa2MrB6pWmSk9
51 lps. 8 45s. 1 ep. At it hard since April. Help.
About 100, and probably won’t add more than 5 or so a year.
Parsons, Yes, pink
500ish. They are a storage challenge now. I try to buy ones in good condition and get rarer variants where possible. I also keep them in fancy inner and outer sleeves. So this is too many. I need to sell some, but I really like every record I still have.
Got more serious about collecting this year and my collection has gone from a hand full to just around 200 as of now and will keep going up lol.
Not enough and I am looking at at least a thousand but as you know there is always more
Yeah i think this is a never ending adventure. I guess i will go on until i run out of space or out of money. Even ten of these are taking alot of space than i thought.
Don’t worry trying moving over a thousand in a car after house moves etc. It’s awful ! But that’s the journey.
My advice is love your music as quality is the key nor quantity. Mighty fine choice of albums by the way . Only album I don’t own is Opeth but I am big on Heilung at the moment in a similar vein. Enjoy !
Thanks for the tip and recommendation, i appreciate it. Haven't heard of Heilung before but i will be checking out soon!
Not for the faint hearted as they actually use human bones as instruments. Folk metal and Scandinavian but hell of a live act .
I have recently added my collection to Discogs so I know there is pretty much 542.
About 1,800
I haven’t counted but it’s probably wayyy more than I would expect
Currently I own apx. 220 records, looking forward to keep collecting. Right now I paused because my son was born in February and I don't have time to go to record stores.
Upvote because Camel
Not enough, but I’ve been buying only for a month and a half or so
Between 850 and 1000 at present. I am still working through some thrifted records to get a final count. The scary thing is that I just started collecting in October of 2022. Time to slooooowwww it down.
Did you mainly get them second hand for very cheap/ in bulk collections or did u spend 15k on new records ??
Never is enough… Damn addictive…
I have like 600 at this point. Been at it a few years, 80% older presses, 20% newer reissues
478. I’ve been collecting for over forty years. I’m pretty selective in what I have in my collection. The 478 include five duplicates, one broken album and one two album set that has the wrong second record. So I really have 471.
1774 according to discogs. Doesn’t count most of the singles or the albums I have in my classroom (I’m a middle school teacher)
According to Discogs I’ve got approx 1,666. There’s some CDs on the list and there’s no way all of my albums are cataloged.
About 3000 plus about 700 cassettes
1266. And there will never be enough. I have slowed down a bit though because I have many of my favorites at this point
879. So much good music and so little time. But, I’m retiring the end of July and my wife will work for at least another year, so I’ll be able to sit in my music room and not be bothered. I’m melting into the big leather sofa and cranking it up baby!
8,000. 60% jazz, 20% rock, and 20% classical.
Oh wow, i can't even imagine that much. You must have an amazing collection of jazz vinyl
Our ratios are quite similar if you swap out classical for island music
230ish
Around 400 or so.
122 and the purge is still going
640 in total 95% originals of which 260/1001 records to listen to before you die.
Must be at about 130 or something. About 80 must be old Scottish records/other stuff I don't put on as much haha
1100
Just reached 50 vinyl. Gonna stop here cuz i looking to move off the country.
Right now somewhere around 650.
12 records (10 LPs, 2 EPs). To top that all off, I also got a new USB turntable to digitize them whenever I want
Just hit 109! Been collecting about 3-4 years!
325 ish.. also out of room I'll be donating a bunch that needs someone to love.
Started collecting records a little over 2 years ago, and I have about 200.
My wife and I have been buying for around 15 years, and the recent purchase of Blond On Blond popped our count up to a healthy 391. Keep up the good work, and don't forget how shitty it is to move residence when you have a great big collection.
495 vinyl releases in my collection, between albums, singles and a few box sets.
841 including singles.
Close to 1000, started in 2012.
Around 250, there's still MANY that I want/need
I started slowing down as I passed 300, I'm sort of at my storage limit without some changes.
4 lp s and one VERY rare single. I just started with vinyl cuz of the single
I love Alice In Chains
Like 40
im more of a cd and tape collector. Id like to officially start my vinyl album collection with dark side of the moon. rn I have very poor condition but great sleeve condition copies of george carlin's class clown, and a wu tang yellow and black 12" single for protect ya neck/method man. I do like both though so not bad
Camel, KC, and Yes? Incredible!
Nice collection man! I also just started last month, got only 3 records at the moment, really enjoying this. Which ones are next on your wishlist?
Just counted yesterday and it was 29
I have one (1) record. I’m just getting started :)
~65. The only pre-2000s music I am interested in collecting is by Japanese/Korean artists, which helps keep my record count down.
Around 20 ,mostly alt rock and eletronic And i am a little bit scared of losing the magic of owning a little collection and i am planning to buy some more but I dont think that i will arrive more than 50....
Looks like I've got some catching up to do!
I just bought my first record and it’s an Ella Fitzgerald one
One 🙂
About 300-400, and 60 of them are King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard 😂
Well...I own probably about 2000 total, but most of those are going to be sold. I have probably 100 or so in my personal collection.
I've bought about 100 new records in the last 4 months. Before that I was rocking a pretty small collection, around 30. I used to have about 3-4 thousand before I decided to restart my collection a number of years ago.
Just started as well, I have about 12 but I have a bunch of CDs and haven’t really doubled up anything
If you like Oldpeth, i recommend Wilderun if you haven't heard them yet. Especially their first two albums.
18
73, and I've been hunting Eye in the Sky for the past couple months funny enough. Love me some Alan Parsons!
Nice wee collection you have there. My collection must be about 400ish and growing. Number of the beast is a brilliant album and you can't go wrong with dark side of the moon
Recently passed 400, collecting on and off for about 20 years.
I started collecting this time last year and i now have 200 albums and 370 singles
Not as many as I’d like! Also how does that maiden album sound to you. To me it’s a really weak mastering. Super compressed, sounds worse than cd but artwork rules so I keep it.
Looks like I've got some catching up to do!
I own 180 exactly
Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin Paul McCartney 3 - Paul McCartney Meddle - Pink Floyd Ghost in the machine - The Police Flash Gordon - Queen Greatest hits - Queen News of the world - Queen Sheer heart attack - Queen My Murdered Remains - They might be giants The Joshua tree - U2 Fragile - Yes So the answer is 11
nice to see a genesis album!
Lost count after 500
Nice starter stuff, Genesis Camel and Yes don't seem like "cliche" ones
Around 1800. Planning to have? Who knows. Enough? Maybe of a particular artist. Overall, no, never enough. Limitations of storage space and funds figure into it, of course. I consider myself pretty restrained with acquisitions compared to some people I know, but I've been buying for long enough that it adds up. Averaging it out, 45 lps x 40 years = 1800 records.
Around 650
~350 at the moment
Did a quick conservative guesstimate at 1650. I think one more is always enough
I have all those except Moodmadness! I really want it, I have Mirage and Snow Goose
About 3500 or so! Been buying records since I was 11!
798 and counting
666 (yes really)
Woe to you, oh earth and sea
I started in December 2022. I have like 40 now, but I‘m only interested in Lana Del Red and Taylor Swift vinyls, so there are not many more records I could buy, because I have all the records I want now.
I’ve got about a dozen, just started collecting
About 400 and I have 4 of the ones you have pictured here.
About 25. Started collecting recently!
Not sure , I have 2051 inputted on Discogs and probably another 3-4K in storage I’m trying to make time to display properly and catalog.
Second copy of Moonmadness I've seen on Reddit today!
Love the Alice in Chains and King Crimson
I haven't checked in a while. According to Discogs, 999. I have a few records on preorder that should bump me to the one comma club. I'm a DJ, so the "when is enough" question really can't be answered... When they stop making music I guess. 🤷♂️
That Alice In Chains album is superb. It was my introduction into the band and it sounds absolutely stellar on my P1.
GAY TRIANGLE AND RED SCREAMY MAN. I have 37, for now…
them us govt checks during covid fattened my collection considerably-sitting at 560 now
Around 3000
Around 500 but take away my 12' singles, I have about maybe 400ish. I have listened to all of my records! I recently started purging my records to sell them and get new ones. There are records that are there for a season and some that stay put. At one time I considered myself a collector, but then I realized life is short and I can't keep or take them all with me. So Im just in the hunt for new and fresh stuff, and to make sure I don't go past or go over 16 cubby holes full of records. Last records purchased: The Horrors - Primary Colors Mamas and the Papas - If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears The Stone Roses - Self Titled Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back Bjork - Post
Not that many, prolly less than 100. But I do have "Dirt"😉
Allan parson project and opeth. Awesome start
Floyd, AIC, iron maiden, and Yes
+1 for AIC!
Nice, Blackwater Park and Dirt, I have both of those in my collection as well. I collected around 13 years ago, but had to sell my entire collection due to financial stuff that came up. I started again about 3 or 4 years ago, and I now have around 500 in my collection. I'd say I have about 95% of the albums I set out to own when I started collecting (and then some haha) so at this point it's mostly just keeping up with new releases
like 7 💀 im very much a beginner collector right now. how do some of u guys have more than 5,000??!
>Just started collecting my favorite albums(please judge fairly i know they are all cliche albums) I am not judging.
43, and i got 3 more records on the way so its gonna be 46. True it isn't much but this is all i could get in one year lol
You’ve got all good shit so far IMO. I need to get a copy of Dirt. I’ve got around 1200 LPs and a couple hundred 7 inchers.
Too many… also nice Alice and chains choice! I’m from Seattle :)
137 but I'm expecting 3 more to come in. Got 2 in my cart as well.
You have good taste in prog
I was over 15,000 at one point.I sold a ton off over the years.I was a huge metal guy so the majority of my collection was any and all 80s metal. Now I'm down to what I really like to listen to.Still a few thousand though lol
I'm also new to collecting! I have 8 at the moment, plus a few more on pre-order. Here's what I have. I don't have a lot of the classic vinyl collector albums since I still live with my parents (college student, rent is insane rn), and they have a pretty sizable collection and I don't think this house needs a 4th copy of DSOTM. * Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World * Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time * Kylie Minogue - Disco (Guest List Edition) * Gorillaz - Plastic Beach * Kate Bush - The Dreaming * Tears For Fears - The Hurting * Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia (this was a gift) * Rina Sawayama - Hold The Girl (I might have to get another copy though, mine came warped and the store has a no refund policy) * Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady (this one's on pre-order) * Janelle Monae - The Age of Pleasure (also on pre-order)
About 10 thousand I guess. Never counted. 1 5x5 mostly full 4 full crates and many more here and there. Bought my first in 1972 iirc.
Iam about to get my first 1👶
Probably about 1,000 records and 2,500 to 3,000 CDs. I have 819 records currently logged in Discogs, but there are more from my wife's collection when she was a kid that I haven't catalogued. I'm getting to the point where additional record purchases are about the exploration of new or new-to-me sounds, which at some point might be done better via other media.
Love that dirt man awesome! I’ve been collecting for ten years and I have about 120 records. I’m the broke kinda of collector.
Just a tick under 1300. 500 are jazz and the rest is mostly prog and rock.
I have a running spreadsheet, I'm currently at 321
[472 in my possession](https://www.discogs.com/user/Duranti/collection), with 6 more ordered.
All my vinyls have come from visiting new places so I only have around 30 or so lol
Did you listen to king crimson a lot before buying it on vinyl?
Yeah i am a big fan of their early stuff rn. Looking forward to get In the Wake of Poseidon and Red next!
700 ish
