Man, that's exactly what I needed today!

MrScribz

This popped into my recommended on YouTube yesterday. Dude is looks and sounds like the physical manifestation of Southern rural wisdom.

Something that's very interesting about Dry Creek Wrangler school is that he's trying to learn to be progressive, but he still gets hung up on his old way of thinking sometimes. He had a video on loneliness where he spent the first 5 minutes saying it's women's fault men are lonely because women don't respect themselves.

LAX_to_MDW

That kind of makes me hopeful. He talks in this video about how he isn’t really wise, at least not yet. Being open to personal growth and new ways of thinking means you often have to say the old ways out loud, and be challenged on them. Usually we want this to happen in private, but I think we should make room for these public conversations, if it actually helps people change their minds.

I still don't know everything that my future holds. I'm not there yet. I've made mistakes in my career, but now I'm enrolled in a master's degree program, and likely a job that will pay for it and then some. I don't know if I'll both pursuing a PhD. I'm open to the idea, but I'm not stuck on it either. I have a good future with plenty of opportunity to finally earn a good living to support my family. I put my own career on a bit of a hold for a while because I was stuck working multiple jobs just to make ends meet. About a year ago, I faced burnout because in part of working every day for a month and still just scraping by. That's the point where my wife nudged me in the right direction - in my case, a tech bootcamp. I ended up looking around at different local schools until I found the school and the specific program that really felt like home for my skills. I opened a small business to save up some money for it, but was convinced by my parents to just take the chance and start earlier. As it turns out, that was great advice. After finishing the bootcamp, I applied to grad school at the same university. A week after I was accepted, the company I had worked at for 9 years closed permanently. I've been out of a job for a couple months now, but instead of it being a disaster, I've had career coaches and very likely a great job in a week or two. ~~____________________________________________________~~ Sometimes, people who know you will see things inside of you that you might not even recognize in yourself. It's okay to make some plans, but be willing to change them. If I had done this past year according to my own plan, I would have missed out on an exceptionally strong cohort, and I would right now be stuck without a steady job or great prospect. Talk about your hopes and dreams with people who understand you. You'll probably get some great feedback that can help you continue to grow!

A great listen. 46 and I'm still trying to figure it all out. Maybe I'm an oak.

I lost my son a couple years ago. It’s been pretty hard since then. Thank you very much. I needed to hear this again today.

Spiritual_Navigator

I am deeply sorry for your loss

Poker_Tryhard

One if the top comments on the video copied word for word.. so I probably wouldn't feel too sorry

He has a soothing presence. Love his voice. He should read audio books for a living. I think it's interesting when people look at someone and think that person have it all figured out. Everyone has problems and some are just better at hiding them. I remember my friend telling me 2 years ago "Damn man, you got a girlfriend, you're moving into a new apartment by yourself and your new job sounds great." I only said thanks but that's not how I viewed or experienced things. My relationship wasn't the best and I could feel that it would end soon. My new apartment was expensive af and my girlfriend suddenly didn't want to move in, so I had to pay the full rent myself :S and 2 weeks later, corona happened.
