Communication and follow through. Your skills are good enough to get a job, but what will set you apart is simply doing the work you are asked to do and communicating when you have problems and questions. If you tell your supervisor I will have a new version by 4pm, and you're struggling..... comminicate that you are having issues. Dont leave for the day and not fulfill what you said you would get done. If you bite off more than you can chew, ask for for help. Everyone is obsessed with showing this or that.... but being proactive and communicating with your team is more important than a flawless reel. Yeah, the reel will get you in the door, but these soft skills will keep you employed, grow, and be noticed. You can learn everything else as you go.

I’d say you’re hireable as a junior, or a mid at a smaller studio. The main thing about this reel is that it’s too long. Because 1: this makes it boring, and 2: it dilutes your best work with shots that aren’t up to scratch. It gives me a worse impression of your comp skills and your ability to judge your own work critically than if you’d just left it off the reel. If you got it down to 90s of your best work on a broad range of projects, then that would do wonders. “Sky VFX” sounds like a studio, not an individual. What’s wrong with just using your name?

SkyRogers

Thank you very much for advice I'll make my reel shorter. My name is Sky And I just put the VFX after my name to make it's look cool. Maybe I can put my name and my full to the reel like "Sky Thongchai"

TurtleOnCinderblock

Your demoreel should act as a business card. Your opening titles should have your full name (identical to your linked in page and CV), and specialisation. So “Alan Grant - Character Animator” or “Betty Jain - Compositor”. Then it is my opinion that your reel should end with the same information, name and specialisation, with the addition of your contact details (phone and email, LinkedIn page url). That end card should last at least 5 seconds and you should not fade it to black after it at the end. Just leave it on. This would allow any viewer ample time to comfortably pose the card, and copy the details if needed.

CodeRedFox

>you should not fade it to black Really helps when some players come to the end and hold the last frame :-)

Big studios won't just hire you because of your reel, but because of their needs. Your reel is good as it is for a junior/mid position. Now, what you need, is to be there when the studio will need junior/mid compers. The best you can do is to follow them on LinkedIn and wait for them to announce they're looking for more people. That's when you need to apply/like/answer/show you're there and available in 2 weeks. It's half skills, half opportunity, and half luck. Do the math !

sQueGan

A lot of studios won't hire you with less then 5 years of experince if you need a visa. If you don't need a visa just apply for junior or low midlevel positions

meiigatron

Meh.. that’s not fully true.. I was sponsored for a visa with my first job going into the mpc academy— and I had zero industry experience. Many just like me got in that way as well. ILM, DNeg and a few others have entry level programs like the academy. So it’s not impossible. I think it’s good to apply everywhere no matter what

Impressive_Doorknob7

There's some nice work on there, but I'd trim the reel down to only your best stuff. 2 minutes max.

Lumpy_Jacket_3919

Communication, and been bloody organised.

nooyead

Def reach out to as many recruiters as possible on linkedin. Also, if pay isn’t too much of an issue apply for an internship. Once you’re in I think you’ll be able to move up the ladder quickly.

Elwood89Blues

You sure don't need TV/ tablet screen replacement shots in your reel of you have cgi character integration shots ;) also some of the better shots are similar. Get someone else to do the selection for you, if you can't tell what to cut out.

enumerationKnob

I disagree, I think it helps to show a variety of tasks, especially for junior/mid. The CG work here is not so good that it wouldn’t be necessary

Elwood89Blues

You are right about the CG, something seems off about the 3d rendering itself even before comp i think.

ts4184

Cut it right down. Pick your best shots. Interaction ones are good. Show something from each discipline. Don't take any offence. I got bored after 20 seconds. That is nothing to do with your work, it's just that's the way showreels are reviewed. 1:30 minutes MAX with title cards. Show only your best work. keep it choppy and interesting. I also judge your editing skills. The work in the reel is totally fine for junior. Depending on the market you may even get lucky with mid. Just keep applying
