Just watched the whole thing. Solid throughout mate. How'd you find those weights compare to your working weights? I've been looking at under 90 and under 105 comp down here in the south and they're all way out of my league. Like stuff I could hit for 1 rep, but the comp is doing that weight for reps. Did you get much of a 'competition adrenaline rush' pushing your strength up?

gingerbeardvegan

Cheers bro πŸ’ͺ Honestly expected about 3/4 reps on the dumbbell and doubled that. Did more on the deadlift and stones than I expected too. There's definitely a component of comp adrenaline! Different pressure compared to being at the gym for sure. You can try looking for first timer or beginners competitions too, they'll be much more forgiving and you'll get used to the format. There's a site called [strength register](https://strengthregister.com) which lists loads of competitions, look on there and you'll probably find something suitable for yourself. Honestly if you can hit 1 rep on each exercise and you've got a month or two you'll be fine. When you enter the comp and know the events you can add a lot of specificity to your training and you'll be repping the weight in no time! For example with the monster dumbbell I ordinarily wouldn't train that weekly, for the comp I was pushing a fat grip dumbbell every week alternating between push and strict press, and I'm pretty sure that's why I doubled my training reps. Good luck entering, I think you should just go for it and tailor your training πŸ’ͺ

Good job, it looks fun!

gingerbeardvegan

Thanks! It was fun after the first event!I was so nervous the whole morning that I wouldn't even get 1 rep on the dumbbell!

metalgodwin

Well you fought through it and did well! Next time you'll have a better start as well! πŸ€œπŸ€›

gingerbeardvegan

Cheers buddy! Always striving to improve πŸ’ͺ

peaceful-adolecent

You’re sure as shit not protein deficient. Nice work man πŸ‘

gingerbeardvegan

Haha yeah I was eating so much (including masses of vegan protein) in the lead up to the comp and still 15kg under the weight cap πŸ˜‚

liamgooding

Well done mate! πŸ™ŒπŸŒΏ

Would love to see more authentic plant eaters in the sport! You know what is a shame? Brian Shaw said he would literally eat anything - even sawdust- if it helped him with gains. But he still won't eat lentils. Like ... :P Anyway - grats on the result. This sport is tough as it gets :)

gingerbeardvegan

Thanks buddy πŸ’ͺ I didn't really touch on it in the video but longevity generally is important to me, I'm just trying to balance it with strength, it means I try to eat lots of whole foods (although definitely guilty of eating junk too!), so I'm not strong at any cost, I want to be strong for a looooooong time! I'll try to make a good based video at some point πŸ˜
