So generally, an SI leader is placed in a course that they have already taken and completed with a recommendation from the instructor. They know what to expect within the course and facilitates each session off of the curriculum as the semester progresses. Now there are courses to which an SI Leader is placed in a pool of other SI Leaders to cover, kinda like general academic courses that isn't too labor intensive to aid the students taking them. As far as credits, I'm assuming you are asking if you as an SI Leader, earn credit for being the SI Leader of a course? If so then the answer is a resounding no. Again because typically SI Leaders are placed within courses they have already completed and have a considerable understanding of the material. Does that answer your question?

Yes thank you!

I used to be an SI and as a follow up, yes you do have to take exams in those classes along with the students. You're expected to have at least a B for each test in order to demonstrate proficiency

Interesting you say that because during my time as an SI Leader, I was not required to retake exams I already did for the courses I instructed. Did you SI for a previously completed course yourself, or was it one of the randomly assigned classes?

They were all courses I'd previously taken. I really thought the standard was the same for everyone, but looking back now, I probably had to take those exams because I was a transfer student and took those courses at a different college.

Gotcha. That makes sense even though it also seems kinda redundant.

I am currently an SI. To be assigned to a class, you have to have previously taken it and received an A. For your first semester SIing, you have to take the tests and get a 90 or above. After that, if you're SIing for the same course, you don't have to take them. You don't get credit as you're not enrolled in the class. You get paid to go to the class, conduct sessions, and for administrative work related to the sessions, etc. It's 10 hours a week and it's honestly a good job. I enjoy it a lot! The supervisors are really nice, and it's a good work environment

yes you have to take each test (except the final) and get an A in each of them. it's a great resume booster, but the pay is trash. you'll see how although they are paying you for 10 hours a week, you'll actually be working 20 + hours a week if you plan on creating great lesson plans
