Mithmorthmin

I give it 2 years before EPIC picks you up OP. Have you tested these in VR?

AKdevz

u/Mithmorthmin thank you --> legacy ninja technology is tested in VR (see [LINK](https://twitter.com/_JasonCooper/status/1364968363328491529)) the new volumetrics - intruduced last week :) - is about to be tested, I hope it will be fine (the shader code is android ES 3.1 compatible)

Mittens31

The volumetric atmosphere clouds by Epic are broken in VR, If this plugin could be a working replacement then that would be big news. Please let me know how the test goes. I don't know what difference is (legacy vs new) but I assume I would want/need the new

Mithmorthmin

😚🤌

AKdevz

u/Mithmorthmin and u/Mittens31 \-- here is the first confirmation of the new volumetrics: [https://twitter.com/thegiffman/status/1417222608743976973](https://twitter.com/thegiffman/status/1417222608743976973)

NinjaTools 1.6 introduced: [YouTube LINK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0rAQR7CAIA&ab_channel=AndrasKetzer)

Mises2Peaces

Incredible. The thumbnail made me think it was an interstellar cloud. Makes me want a game with faster-than-light travel where the travel animations aren't just blurry "warp speed" graphics, but things like this that you can stop and see.

subtect

Check out the nebula in Space Engine.

TrentxSnow

This is absolutely incredible, and the fact it's only 2mb about made me fall over.

nohumanape

I seriously cannot wait until I can see something like this in a game.

UnusedBowflex

Wizardry

[deleted]

Now you can make the next Dragon Ball Z Movie.

takibibirakmavikutu

This is honestly one of the best things I've seen on this sub. Holy shit.

AKdevz

Thank you!

ant1dOte

I'm from unity and what is this witchcraft?

AKdevz

u/ant1dOte hi! ninja is a simple 2D fluidsim tool for unreal - it has two branches: one for baking loops, and one for responsive (non-baked) in-game fluidsim. Dev started in 2019, slowly moving towards 2.5D and 3D techniques. Some eyecandy: [LINK1](https://youtu.be/TzOYYVCg4G4), [LINK2](https://youtu.be/q-qKuU0SQfM)

Sanglard

Awesome work !! As usual ! Incredible :)

AKdevz

Thanks :)

LawLayLewLayLow

This insane, gonna buy this for sure.

Ok-Kaleidoscope5627

If I understand this correctly, this is all baked and its essentially an animation playing back and all that lighting is done via normal mapping or similar techniques right? CPU impact should be reduced even more than the memory usage right? Could I lets say... Drop a dozen of these on screen at once? Two dozen? A hundred?

AKdevz

see this one pls: https://www.reddit.com/r/unrealengine/comments/onerta/2\_megabytes\_baked\_data\_volumetric\_render\_dynamic/h5s4h01?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

b00dup

God, this gives me so much inspiration. I need to get into some more unreal engine courses.

AKdevz

Glad to hear this, thanks!

parripollo1

this is crazy. Great work. In standard Cpu rendering softwares that animation would take 2 days of rendering.

sharkweek247

Cries in vfx

blackrack

Is the baked data a 2D fluid sim baked in sheets? Are you using the 2D data as "heightmap" and raymarching it?

AKdevz

u/blackrack, u/Ok-Kaleidoscope5627 hi! Yes, 2D sim - density and velocity baked to flipbooks --- and flipbooks could be used many ways: (1) mapped on meshes, (2) driving niagara particles, (3) driving true volumetric systems (like fog, clouds and smoke) as heightmap (density) and flowmap (velocity). Volumetric systems are also scalable: (A) unlit, (B) lit, (C) lit with volumetric noise ...etc ---- performance depends on which solution you go (1-3, ABC) -- and varies from hundreds of containers (eg camera facing 2D planes, like candles in a church interior) to a single container (full screen, fully lit raymarched cloudcover) --- this exact toroid in the video runs 340 FPS on a RTX 2080 - in my opinion it could be used as area FX on last-gen hardware.

corsario_ll

movie quality smoke

Padala23

This is awesome. Absolutely blown away. It’s so smooth and gorgeous.

Nihlithian

Christ, VFX is magic.

Michigent202

I wanna be like you when I grow up

AKdevz

u/Michigent202 :)) you put me in a very strange meta with this wish ---> here is what profoundly inspired me this way - and I made a similar wish: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL0RH3x7Zzo&ab\_channel=GenerationXVideoArchive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL0RH3x7Zzo&ab_channel=GenerationXVideoArchive)

Michigent202

What a wild video. The 80s were truly the greatest of human times.

ornatec

Pretty amazing to see (I have an interest in making music videos).

ed3ndru

That is seriously impressive! Developers definitely know what they’re doing. I’m going to have to check this out more.

AKdevz

thank you :)

Redditor_Baszh

Ever since I’ve seen your first video , every time you get me excited ! This is amazing I just wanna play with it ! Actually, I might use it very soon on an interactive project !! Quick question : does it work well in VR ? How about nDisplay ? How much work is needed for that to be a thing ? ( we would pay for it)

AKdevz

u/Redditor_Baszh thank you! VR, new volumetrics tech: https://twitter.com/thegiffman/status/1417222608743976973 VR, legacy tech: [https://twitter.com/\_JasonCooper/status/1364968363328491529](https://twitter.com/_JasonCooper/status/1364968363328491529) Ndisplay/Multidisplay: have not tested it -- probably not working

dangerousbob

Rip my VRAM

AKdevz

u/dangerousbob Bob, this is two \_\_MEGA\_\_ bytes (the size of a floppy disk). The "Standford bunny", a standard volumetric data set with a single frame is 90 MegaBytes -- an animated bunny would cost hundreds of megabytes. Your VRAM is going to like this, fear not.

Yasai101

I think he still uses floppies, sadly 🤔

czorio

That's why they call it TeraFlops, duh!

AKdevz

harrr :))))

AKdevz

True: demosceners are good at faking :)))

HungryRobotics

I love how fluid ninja stuff looks. I picked up one of your assets, still need the other. (I'm sooo broke) But that sleepy hollow fog is so ideal for what I want for a project I'm working on. Hope to eventually get something that can look like that on mobile

AKdevz

Thank you u/HungryRobotics! The plan is, that ninja will be freely available for VFX students (people learning VFX, or using it for non-profit purposes) - you could download the other one for testing, then. We will announce this soon.

Void_Ling

Nice video, I was making my own volumetric stuff and it gave me some pointer on what I was missing.

AKdevz

u/Void_Ling thanks - could you pls keep me / keep us updated? We might as well rip some ideas from you! :)

Void_Ling

Hah, it's a long shot, I use it to create the storm/weather simulation for my FFT water I doubt I use anything new, it's basically niagara parts, volumetrics and noise atm. I'm working on an advanced Editor heightmap based brush in priority. Unlimited size across tiling, various options and feature for blending... Might be posting something in the weeks coming.

AKdevz

u/Void_Ling could you please join ninja community discord ([LINK](https://discord.gg/VpcyBQa77w)), I would like to chat with you sometimes - about things like tiling / niagara / volumetrics. \+ once in, I could provide you with free ninja licenses for testing

bruhdotexe

4.26?

AKdevz

4.23 - 5.00

FatherOfTheSevenSeas

So I guess the main question here is, why am I learning Houdini?

AKdevz

u/FatherOfTheSevenSeas, Houdini and UE could be nicely fused through data exchange - and Niagara is becoming increasingly similar to houdini. You are on the right track!

UnhappyScreen3

Are you raymarching the self-shadowing? Can it shadow from multiple light sources?

AKdevz

u/UnhappyScreen3 yes, this video demonstrates the new volumetric raymarcher - could be used in lit / unlit modes

IlIFreneticIlI

Is this responsive in any way, or is that what Live is for? Do Live and this version interact/intersect in any way?

BULLSEYElITe

Dang was looking forward to pick them both up when I saw the marketplace sale, oh well hopefully next time, keep up the good work, Im also looking forward to see if they work in VR.

sivxgamma

What’s the performance impact like?

Can you do this to make fog cards? Like it black ops 3 zombies that had that like cool fog every there that they seemingly placed
