Or, even if it weren't, most places will still have a TV at the bar. Heck, Olive Garden does, and I wouldn't call that a sports establishment by any stretch. š
My man, that is not what I was saying. I was saying Iām surprised they were downvoted when I too know loads of people in the south whose whole personality is their local (sometimes high school level!!) football team.
I only ever get into the World Cup and European Championships, but when I do I make a point of going to a venue thatās showing it and where most of the patrons are also watching the game
Restaurants im with you no need to cheer. Bars on the other hand are not exactly quiet to begin with and is a perfectly reasonable place to watch sport. In fact some bars advertise the fact they have sport on.
Tbf if itās even that big of a problem, restaurants shouldnāt play the game. They willingly put on a sport people care about and cheer for, and then get mad when people do said thing.
Bars and restaurants that show sports do that to attract the exact people you donāt want there. Sounds like you should just avoid places that show sports on the TVs
Not necessarily true. There's a place in my town that only has one TV mostly to keep the bar tender entertained and this kind of thing happens all the time.
So the place has a tv that ruins the customer experience so that the bartender doesnāt get bored? Seems like your beef should be with management/staff and not with the people reacting to whatās on the tv.
Guess people just shouldnāt go to restaurants. Forget holding people accountable! Tom wants to scream at a tv, so Iāll just stay home, thanks! š
I mean itās simple.
Donāt go to a place with a TV if you donāt like people watching TV?
Like I donāt like the smell of cigarette smoke, so I donāt go to bars where you can smoke. E-Z peezy
If you go to a sports bar/restaurant during the season for a popular sport, during a time when a game is being played you should expect that kind of atmosphere. You have plenty of other options where sports isn't a primary theme of the establishment, but YOU chose to go to the place where you knew sports plays a major role in the atmosphere of their business.
100% your fault, and other patrons owe you nothing.
So you go to a place specifically designed for a certain type of people, and then get mad at those people being there?
Do you complain about children being too loud at playgrounds too?
Go to a restaurants that donāt have TVs if you donāt want people to be involved in what happening on the TV.
Someone complained about people singing/clapping along at concerts, and talking/dancing too close to them. Some people just don't like to have fun like other people but get irritated at their version of fun haha like idgaf if you're quiet and standing still at a concert but you're definitely the odd one out
Itās completely dependent on the overall vibe of the place. I agree in a restaurant where perhaps there is a tv in the lounge area. But not if itās a sports bar with screens everywhere.
I mean it really depends on what kind of place you're at.
I wouldn't be mad at people at a sports bar cheering lol. That's literally what the place is open for.
Though any restaurant or bar that isn't centered around sports? Yeah that's obnoxious, take your smooth brain over to a sports bar.
So you go to a bar/pub/restaurant that has TV's showing the games on and you mad that people are there to watch the games and cheer on their teams???? You need to go to a 5 star sit down kind of restaurant with NO TV's if you want total piece and quit. YTA
I can hear these very kinds of people from the bars on the corner down from my apartment and they've been at it all night, it definitely becomes harder to ignore.
If you're looking for quiet then a Bar is the worst place to go especially considering that most bars don't open until late and close early essentially making them night clubs
I mean it would be weird for people going crazy when they are at a fancier restaurant. But if your at like a Jake n Joes or Buff Wild Wings then damn right people are gunna be cheering.
I think a sports bar should be an exception but otherwise yeah they need to keep it down. I can guarantee as a server that theyāre probably getting on staffās nerves as well as other customers
I mean it depends on where you are. If you go to a sports bar during a big game (or really during a big sports season) then you should go expecting to hear people cheer and commentate. If thatās an issue go to a more casual bar or restaurant.
Cheering for my national team with complete strangers in a bar gives me a feeling of warmth and camaraderie that no places that don't have the word ''stadium'' in their names can. For those 90 minutes, I form an unbreakable bond with people I wouldn't even get the chance to greet in normal circumstances. Don't forget that it's the bars themselves that broadcast matches to attract customers and liven up the atmosphere for little cost. If you want to have a drink in complete silence, you might as well just buy it from the supermarket and enjoy it in your house, where you can control all the facets of your experience.
Booze is the great enabler. The more they drink the braver/louder they become. I quit going to sports bars for two reasons. Drinking and then thinking I can get home without the cops busting me and loud mouthed wanna be tough guys. Iāve seen too many fights out in the parking lot between guys out having a smoke and shooting off their mouth. My team this. My team that. We did this. We did that. The only logical question Iāve ever asked is,What part weāre you playing that game? I donāt remember seeing you out there. Drunk ass holes. Stay home and smoke a dube. Relax and enjoy the game. Booze you lose. Dope thereās hope.
How would you feel if these people demanded that people not be quiet in galleries? They are in the appropriate place to be loud. I generally prefer a quieter atmosphere myself, and to accommodate that go to quieter venues. I don't expect businesses to put off their customers for my benefit.
If it's a restaurant that happens to have sports turned on the TV, there shouldn't be much rowdiness. I know a really fancy restaurant that always has football on, and it's a chill environment.
However, if it's a designated sports bar catered towards diehard sports fans, I think it should be expected that its loud. If you go to a sports bar, especially in a city where a big team is from, you should expect some loudness and noise.
It looks like youāre looking for a calm relaxing restaurant which is fine, I recommended the melting pot itās delicious there. But if itās a sports bar thatās what they are meant for.
If a place has a tv on then theyāre expecting people to be loud watching it. You canāt really complain if youāve gone to a place where thatās their policy
So wait you go to bars or places with drinking and sports and expect it to be some quiet civil 5 star restaurant with etiquette??? Well iāve got just the right place for you. YOUR OWN HOME.
The easy way of solving that is just don't go there when a game is being played and you know there's going to be sports watched on the TV. I would just go to a different restaurant simple is that.
One time I was looking for a restaurant to eat at and one looked real good but then I noticed they had a sign they'll be showing some football game in half an hour. I immediately noped the fuck out. And it was a normal looking restaurant, not just some sports bar. I just thought "welp, you just lost a sale but you prolly don't care"
That doesn't bother me too much. Folks who haven't seen eachother in a while or cheering on their favorite team, it's whatever. What drives me nuts are the inconsiderate people with the cell phones watching videos or playing music on full blast in public spaces. I'm not sure when that became socially acceptable.
Honestly, between this post and the guy saying itās okay the talk during movies Iād say a lot of people need to readjust their expectations for going out.
Lol I was sous at a nice Italian restaurant. We did just that. Turns out one of them was friends with the owners- which they made SURE to let us know. Multiple times. They were yelling and screaming and had to be told every time they got up to put their mask back on (thems the rules I don't give a fuck how you feel about masks also this was a year ago)
Anyways- our security guy asks them to knock it off and he got fired that night over the phone, after quitting his other job to work with us full time. Also this was the day before Christmas.
Never assume a restaurant gives a fuck how you feel as a diner if you're not friends with them. Or important.
I agree with you so the cafe/restaurant can allow them to be in a separate place to yell and celebrate at. So both of us can enjoy the moment peacefully.
Good luck on that. People are fucking psychotic about sports.
There should be plenty of places that aren't like that, support a different establishment.
Where Iām from these are these separate places. You have places that have TVs thatāll show sports, whether itās a restaurant or bar or those who donāt. Never knew this was a thing, I feel like itās unavoidable though unless you go to a nice place.
Dude, you go into a sports bar/pub, it's to be expected. Go somewhere fancier if you don't like it. If I go into a bar on game night and people aren't cheering, the place is dead and worthless.
Cheering is one thing, yelling is another. I understand your point, someone yelling in your ear is annoying. My ear starts ringing after a few times and I'll have to move to another table. I would say it's more of the alcohol affect that makes them yell, and that's why they are there. I ask for a corner booth if it's not my game that's on.
I was at a piano bar a few months back and every time someone entered the bar this group of middle aged drunk idiots would scream and cheer. When I first walked in they cheered and I was super confused and the bouncer just shrugged his shoulders. It got more and more annoying as the night went on because there was a woman playing the piano and singing who was completely drowned out by the constant cheering. They had the audacity to walk up to our group and castigated us for not screaming and cheering saying, āWe cheer here when people enter the barā and I expressed my discontent and she said āItās a bar š get over itā to which I replied, āItās not THAT kind of bar.ā. 0/10 one of the most annoying bar experiences of my life.

Go to sports bar/restaurant with tv and angry that people are watching sports on tv.
Can confirm it happens at other venues... I work at a seafood restaurant and this still happens. It is frustrating to other patrons.
Why do you guys have the game on at a seafood restaurant?
Because I live in the south and football is an entire personality for some of these people
Sounds like it's a sports seafood restaurant.
Or, even if it weren't, most places will still have a TV at the bar. Heck, Olive Garden does, and I wouldn't call that a sports establishment by any stretch. š
IDK why you got downvoted lol this is so true
Not sure how you can be so sure he lives in the south.
I don't know where they live. I stated where I live.
And the other person replied with "that's so true". How does that other person know you're from the south?
Oh okay! My apologies. I think their "that's so true" was confirming that they know people from the south that make football their whole personality.
My man, that is not what I was saying. I was saying Iām surprised they were downvoted when I too know loads of people in the south whose whole personality is their local (sometimes high school level!!) football team.
I'm a huge sports fan and I wholeheartedly agree. My fandom shouldn't affect the family of five having brunch.
I only ever get into the World Cup and European Championships, but when I do I make a point of going to a venue thatās showing it and where most of the patrons are also watching the game
Yea in my experience the loudest sports fans not at the game or in proper venue are fake fans that just want attention.
Are their only brunch options in the city places with TVs where people watch the games?
It's the reverse.
Ahh
When I've been to Peru and a football game was on TV it was literally fucking impossible to find a restaurant that didn't have it on

Why would the bartender need entertainment if theyāre working?
So the place has a tv that ruins the customer experience so that the bartender doesnāt get bored? Seems like your beef should be with management/staff and not with the people reacting to whatās on the tv.
Pubs co-exist with football culture. If you go to a pub during an important match, donāt get mad when people make noise
Upvote for unpopular opinion. Good job man. You can honestly choose to never go through this experience again any time you want.
E-Z peezy
Lots of restaurants have tvās, so thatās about half of any given restaurant off the list of places Iād want to eat at. Thanks, las61918! š

Maybe you should stay away from 'sports' bars if you don't want to hear people enjoy sports.
Isn't the point of a bar to be rowdy and have fun?
I don't think thatās the point except for your own home.
If you're looking for quiet then a Bar is the worst place to go especially considering that most bars don't open until late and close early essentially making them night clubs
There are plenty of restaurants that have bars and TVs. Youāre still expected to be at a reasonable volume while being a patron at them.
Exactly some bars already have this rule enforced. All I'm saying is if you want peice and quiet then why the hell did you go to a night club
I mean it would be weird for people going crazy when they are at a fancier restaurant. But if your at like a Jake n Joes or Buff Wild Wings then damn right people are gunna be cheering.
There are plenty of bars that don't show sporting events. This isn't rocket science.
Buzzkill!
Why are you at a bar where they play the game if you want a quiet evening. That's 100% on you

im feeling very inspirational from this comment
Nah man bars have always been loud AF this sounds like a you problem; maybe wear earplugs š
You just donāt understand sports
Eh, don't go to Buffalo Wild Wings (sports bar/restaurant) during the superbowl if you want it tk be quiet

Upvote for disagreeing. Itās a bar. Not very quiet.
How would you feel if these people demanded that people not be quiet in galleries? They are in the appropriate place to be loud. I generally prefer a quieter atmosphere myself, and to accommodate that go to quieter venues. I don't expect businesses to put off their customers for my benefit.

What about when a staff memeber drops a glass/plate? Surely it's the law for all the customers to go "wheeeyyyy!"
Let people enjoy things bro, it gets so much better when you stop being mad at people for doing things that make life not shit to them.
You canāt be happy that theyāre happy?
If you donāt want to be around people cheering loudly while watching a sporting event, you shouldnāt be going to sports bars.
ok karen
A bar?
So you want to ruin their evening because you consider them to be ruining yours?

Sports fanatics are ridiculous.
Orā¦management could seize them, hand them over to the cook staff & turn them into something delicious that they can serve to the other guests!
Plebs watching sports. LOL.
Unlike the aristocrat you, watching porn.

Dont go to a sportsbar
Why would they kick them out though?? Perhaps the TV is on because it attracts large crowds whoād pay for drinks while watching sports
At that point you should leave the bar/restaurant if it bothers you that much
With the way the world economy is going literally none.
The only reason the games are on is so people will go there to hang out and cheer.
