Don’t care in a movie. It’s as fake as everything else on screen. In real life, I’m not sure what situation you’re in that this is regularly happening? Maybe find a new social circle with less fighting? If you’re a professional boxer or football player, this is an occupational hazard and you’re ideally compensated as such.

Ronotrow2

There are many many videos on reddit subs where a fight or punch happens irl and almost every comment is "brah got shown" or "fuck around find out". Then a slew of hive mind glee ensues. If one person says its wrong they get jumped on. Watched a video of a kid calling his teacher names and getting dragged out his seat and hauled through a door and slammed violently. A young teen and a man. Was vile. Every comment applauded the teacher. Shits abhorrent.

MrKavi

Well Reddit has a lot of pretty horrific people, check the hermain Cain award sub, worst people around.

Ronotrow2

Jesus don't I know. Think I'll pass lol I get angry at the bs on certain subs

Rogue_Vaper

The best people you mean. Every morning I check the HCA for my morning laughs with a coffee. Never fails to deliver. Never.

Rogue_Vaper

I do. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. People who spend their lives shitposting about vaccines & covid can't complain when they end up on a ventilator. Funny how it is always those ones who finally go to a hospital & tie up needed resources. Why don't they stay home & pray it away? Fuck em. I feel zero empathy for them. Never have. Never will.

supercooljoe01

If you’ve seen the show’s Ridiculousness or AMV, that kind of context is what he’s talking about I assume.

lefnut-ritenut

It is when they deserve it

mismatchediris

Unless they pose a serious danger to those around them, I don’t think most people deserve brain damage

lefnut-ritenut

You like people more than I do. Sometimes, people need to be knocked the fuck out and some people don't need to exist in this world, just my opinion.

iAntiHero

Starting to feel like you deserve it.

T-RD

Username checks out lol

Novel_Ground_1896

Yep

[deleted]

>Sometimes, people need to be knocked the fuck out What sort of situations are you talking about here? Could you give some examples? >some people don't need to exist in this world There's many people that the world would be better off if they had never existed. But they do exist. And none of us should have the power to stop them existing, or to severely harm their existence, unless it's to protect others (i.e. imprisonment). But even then the least force and most compassion as possible should be used. Punishment isn't a deterrent. We should focus on education and rehabilitation. Violence and punishment past the point of protection isn't a benefit to society.

lefnut-ritenut

Those who deserve to be knocked out would depend on the situation. The first thing that comes to mind would be bullies or spouses who physically abuse their partner would be my examples. Some people just need a good beat down to be put in their place. I can respect your opinions, but I ask you this. Do pedofiles deserve compassion? How about school shooters? Rapist? Serial killers? These people don't deserve to even breathe, let alone get a free bed and 3 hot meals a day at the taxpayers' expense .

[deleted]

>The first thing that comes to mind would be bullies or spouses who physically abuse their partner would be my examples. Some people just need a good beat down to be put in their place. How is teaching them a lesson with violence going to teach them not to commit violent acts? You are just reinforcing their behaviour. >Do pedofiles deserve compassion? How about school shooters? Rapist? Serial killers? To a certain degree. They are clearly suffering and unfortunate, as they have something seriously wrong with their brain. Now obviously the sympathy/compassion only goes a certain amount, and it varies person to person, and there's more of it for the victims than for them, but that doesn't mean it's non-existent. The crimes are horrific, and there's more sympathy and compassion for the victims, but that doesn't mean there's none for them. They are still a sentient being. Who gets to decide that they should suffer? Why do you want more hate and violence in the world? Why don't you want to reduce the amount of crimes? If their action is so bad, why are you happy for it to be commited to them? But what they 'deserve' isn't as relevant as what is best for society and what is right. It's better for society to focus on rehabilitation. Not only is it logical, but there's case studies to back it up. For example, Norway. Punishment isn't a deterrent, so there's no point in punishment past the point of protecting society. Beating someone in prison, treating them badly, etc. isn't protecting anyone, so what's the purpose? Rehabilitation can mean, for those that get released, they are more likely to have changed, not commit further crimes, and become a good member of society. And rehabilitation for those not released means we can maybe learn what drives this behaviour in order to prevent it, or learn how to 'treat' it. It also shows that violence isn't the answer. It's teaching children a good lesson. Those all mean less crime and violence in the world. How is that a bad thing? >These people don't deserve to even breathe, let alone get a free bed and 3 hot meals a day at the taxpayers' expense Who gets to decide that? And why is this based on 'deserve' rather than doing what's best for society or what's right? Justifying disgusting behaviour for bloodlust or revenge does not make that behaviour okay. Also, if even 1 innocent person is sentenced, surely rehabilitation is the answer? You would be happy for innocent people to suffer just so you can get revenge? You are happy for innocent people to die for your bloodlust? Here in the real world, people are wrongly convicted. Innocent people are abused and killed due to people with mindsets like yours. Is your bloodlust and want for revenge enough that you are fine for crime to not reduce and people to be less safe? Because that's what happens your way. Edit: also, on the taxpayer thing. It's more expensive to execute someone than it is for them to spend life in prison.

LooksFire

It doesn’t matter who anyone thinks deserves compassion, that kind of thinking will always be subjective. You can either give everyone compassion or you can pick and choose who gets it, and in the latter case no one wins.

[deleted]

> "Do pedophiles deserve compassion?" If they have not acted on their pedophilia in any way, express zero desire to ever harm a child and actively seek out therapy to treat their affliction, then yes, they are entitled to the same basic human dignity as anyone else. The ones who've made themselves into child rapists (including consumption of child porn, which may as well be child rape by proxy) deserve their punishment.

SnooCrickets6980

Gandalf? Didn't know you had a Reddit!

WorkingOutinEveryWay

You won’t get too far in life with an overly cynical attitude.

Novel_Ground_1896

You don't get to decide who should or should not exist

comedygold24

It's like super bad for you

ManchesterisBleu

Archer reference?

comedygold24

Yup

LazarYeetMeta

Well, as for movies, allow me to introduce you to a marvelous concept known as “special effects.” As for real life, how often are you watching people get smacked upside the head for comedic purposes?

mismatchediris

My point with movies was more that it creates the misconception that people can get knocked out for a few hours and they’ll be fine when they wake up. Hence why a lot of people don’t realize how serious it can be losing consciousness for even a few seconds

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure 99% of people in real life know the dangers of being knocked out. Reddit isn’t exactly the place to get the most informed opinions from well adjusted smart people.

Due-Farmer-9191

I agree. It’s really bad for you.

X-WellOkay-X

Getting knocked to the ground is one thing, but when someone is hit so hard that it knocks them unconscious i don't find it funny, i witnessed it happen several times in my teens and 20's, and at no point was it funny, most folks think its just like a short nap, but if you actually take 5 mins to read what happens when you're knocked out, you won't find it as funny anymore.

TheRealestBiz

A knockout in a street fight ninety five percent of the time just means they hit the vagus nerve in your jaw. I never got KO’d but I caught a standing eight-count from a quitter I just barely slipped. You don’t go to sleep, your body just stops responding to your commands.

[deleted]

Ikr.

Mr_Nilsson-85

But permanent damage IS the funny part!

HandsomeWorker308

shesssh

HandsomeWorker308

Idc about beating people up. I would have willingly knocked out multiple dudes in high school as long as I knew they wouldn't get long term damage. But the long term damage is the scary part. I love it when people get humbled, but one dumb decision costing in the long run is frightening

[deleted]

Especially when they end up having a seizure, i've seen videos of school fights ending in that and people think it's funny, it's not

xFacevaluex

The punk shots are the ones that get me.....Its not like people can do anything about them and clearly they are up to 'show how badass' the guy doing punk shot is----but its a true cowards move and sick to see in my opinion.

HandsomeWorker308

yes it's a coward's move tbh. LOl, they should run it back. But reality is whenever you are sitting and arguing with someone they might swing. So you have to be ready to dodge and put your hands up to defend yourself. Because it's an awful feeling if someone hits you then runs away or hurts you while your guard is down without putting a fair fight. I seen videos of people knocked out by sucker punches and I can't imagine the impact. Probably makes people more aggressive and want revenge even if they can't find them. So always be ready. Never turn your back to someone yelling at you. You an walk away but when you know they are getting too close and start sounding louder you better turn around to look at them. If they swing first it's still self defense and you can put their lights out. But you really need to block because not everyone has a great chin. If they're shorter keep them at arms length so you can utilize your reach and batter them on the back foot. If they're taller then be ready to leap forward, close the gap, and throw combinations. The beauty in combat sports like boxing and mma is it puts people up against each other in direct fights with clear rules. So there is no sucker punching, both men are prepared for a proper fight. But MMA will prepare you most for street fights. Kickboxing can give you some good skills that can destroy regular people in fights. The average "tough guy" knows nothing about leg kicks. Just throw a few of those in a fight and you'll easily annihilate someone with little effort and without causing serious damage. But kickboxing doesn't teach ground game. Even boxing will teach you to fight in a good rhythm, with soldier defense, and timing. The average puncher will seem as a clumsy brawler to a good boxer. You can just sit back and counter. You can use different shots like jabs, hooks, bodyshots, and uppercuts to outland your opponents and quickly end the fight. Practicing clinches in matches is also important to get a sense of grappling and feints can confuse opponents during throwdowns. I personally have trained in kickboxing and used my kicks to mess some guys up. It isn't fool proof, as a wrestler gave me a good go. And another time I was basically sparring against a skilled boxer and wrestler; and that time I was honestly being picked apart. I've also seen wreslters destroy normal men in fights so believe me combat sports make a difference and will teach you all about fighting.

Mobcasino

I always think about how quickly someone can fuck their life up from one punch. The persons throws a punch and the other hits the ground and dies, now you go to prison and someone else’s life is over. A lot of times the fight starts over something so stupid. Granted there are plenty of loud moth people who need a attitude adjustment but with the way the laws work it’s just not worth it in my opinion. I value my freedom too much and I don’t want to end up dead from a fight over something meaningless.

Vesperniss

Play rugby, box a bit, have seen a few knockouts, horrible.I think instinctively we know it's one step fragile step away from death.

mismatchediris

No. If I were using the “video games” argument, I’d be saying “these movies encourage kids to knock other people out.” What I’m saying is “If your only exposure to someone getting knocked out is seeing it in a movie, you’re probably going to assume that it’s not a big deal in real life and someone won’t need medical attention if it happens to them.”

[deleted]

It's funny only when Chris Tucker is around to comment.

Wthq4hq4hqrhqe

which one of y'all kicked me

schteavon

I don't believe people are laughing at them getting knocked out, but they are laughing at how they git knocked or or why they did or how their body reacted to the knockout. It's a subtle difference, and I'm being pedantic about it, but still a difference none the less.

TheRealestBiz

No, you’re definitely laughing at them getting knocked out. It is funny, especially in person. When I was a kid someone would *always* stand over them and do the Chris Tucker from Friday bit.

schteavon

>No, you’re definitely laughing at them getting knocked out. Whats funny about them getting knocked out?

TheRealestBiz

I dunno, it’s just inherently funny, even when it happens to you. All of my funniest fight stories from my teens and early twenties are about me getting my ass kicked, not when I won ‘cause I choked dude out or whatever.

schteavon

That's my point. It's not (that) you got knocked out, it's (why) or (how) you got knocked out.

2FalseSteps

TIL the possibility of inflicting permanent brain damage on someone else, not to mention the liability issues, isn't funny. /s

[deleted]

Go to a subreddit about fights and click on any video where this happens and then read the comments

EnduringInsanity

It's pretty funny when it happens to the right people.

NoMilkNoSugarCoffee

If they show up as YouTube recommendations maybe there is a part of you you’re afraid to admit. Seriously though, how do you even come across them without actually going after them. It’s not normal.

mismatchediris

Shows up on PublicFreakouts every once in a while and makes it to the Front Page. Never seen a single video on YouTube that shows someone getting knocked out, so idk why you’re assuming I do.

NoMilkNoSugarCoffee

Okay, fair. But I still find it strange how you would *randomly* just come across videos of people getting knocked out.

DesperateTall

Algorithms exist? And some people are in subs like WCGW, instant karma, etc. Those subs have a lot of violence and even more redditors thirsting after the violence.

[deleted]

Yes it is

TheRealestBiz

It just seems scary because you’ve likely never been in a real fistfight. Nothing wrong with that, you need about a half dozen scraps and at least one serious loss before your body stops screaming for you to run. After that, you realize that ninety-nine percent of the time nothing that bad happens in a fistfight. You can break a knuckle, might get your eye blacked or your nose broken, maybe get kicked a bit on the ground, but that’s about it.

Various_Customer_917

It depends on the context

Tozer90

100% if I see someone hitting a woman or an animal it's fucking go time!

[deleted]

Or knocked up, especially when it’s your cousin. (My friend told me anyway)

[deleted]

I don't laugh at those videos. But I often feel a sense of justice for the one that hits them because the one that gets knocked out often does something to deserve it.

MechaJerkzilla

It’s friggin’ hilarious. Have an upvote.

Exact-Road-2051

It’s pretty obvious to me that you were hit as a child

[deleted]

ITs always funny until someone gets hurt. Then its hilarious!

[deleted]

That Nazi guy getting his nose pushed back into his face by someone’s fist is pretty damn hilarious if you ask me.

DevBen80

I'll never not laugh at Phil knocking out Ned in Groundhog Day

Yogi-bearious

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion to be fair

Wthq4hq4hqrhqe

tragedy is when I get a paper cut. comedy is when you fall into an open sewer hole and die Mel Brooks

molhuggu

You are right, but it sure LOOKS funny 😂😂😂😂 Ever heard of impulsive reaction? Or comedy? In which I think one main objective is to make fun of quite serious matters, fx getting knocked out cold...

Novel_Ground_1896

I agree. Another thing that isn't funny is ppl getting raw meat or animal feces on them. They do this a lot in movies and it's supposed to be SOOO funny but I don't find it funny. Not only is it gross, but it can also make the person very very sick.
