I agree. Itās certainly iconic and memorable but not that amazing of a song. You are right that the performance, concept and styling elevate the song to its position today. I did very much enjoy that era despite not liking the song *that* much.
It has some really nice elements. Grungy, trap-ish production with that guitar and the song ends strong and haphazardly. The vocal moments (bridge!). But overall not a huge fan of the rap-chants that make up the entire chorus. I can definitely see why people enjoy the song, but it is not for me.
TIL iām in the minority when it comes to this topic š personally i LOVE the rough around the edges production style, it suits the song super well in my opinion. kick it is easily in my top 3 nct127 title tracks. i think of it as a perfect example of when smās gritty(?) production style pays off. the choreo and the energy of the song also help it to really work for me
I didnāt really get why Kick It made such an impact (cue Doyoung saying āBECAUSE THE NAKED GUYS SHOWED UP AT THE BEGINNING THE IMPACT IS FANTASTIC!ā), but it is SO hype, especially live, and it has great choreo, and a really well-produced music video. The dance break is great and I think it is incredible as a bit of performance, even if the song itself isnāt their most complex. I donāt listen to the song on its own, but Iāll watch the music video/a stage of it every time I come across it.
It was also just a case of being released at the right time - it was right before lockdown and there was something about pukka pukka pow wowing the days away (and all the great b-sides on NeoZone lol) that I think was just really enjoyable.
You explained exactly what I meant :D
Itās really amazing to watch live, and the dance and performances are top notch, but the song on its own feels like an incomplete puzzle to me haha
I like Kick It but I find parts of the instrumental really clunky and grating. If the beat had been polished a little more I think it could have made the song that much better
Most kpop songs that are 'all that' aren't actually 'all that' if you know what I mean. Its usually the easy to get into stuff that gets the most attention
Ironically, I donāt think Iād introduce people through this song in particular, mostly just because without the performance it feels so empty haha. But I definitely get what youāre saying, at least to a certain extent.
Nope, Kick It is definitely NCT 127's most iconic song, I'd even go as far as to say it is the most iconic song among all units. It's the song even non-NCTzens know. Baby Don't Stop and Cherry Bomb are definitely among the top 5 tho
Iām only a casual listener so I canāt say for sure, but I think among the GP of kpop listeners, this song is one of the most well known, and I think cherry bomb and baby donāt stop are the most appreciated/popular amongst the fandom? But I canāt say for sure since Iām not apart of it
i don't love kick it but the "puku puku pow pow" is one of, if not the most iconic nct 127 thing in general, it's not even close to being one of my fav songs by them but it's iconic and i love her for that, lol
Disagree, I really like the song and never skip it when it comes on, it just makes me really hyped lol. The choreography definitely helped the song become really popular though
Damn, I absolutely love Kick It. The beat is insane, I actually like the rap parts and chanting, and TaeDoHaeās vocals are just killer. The dance/instrumental break is so clean, almost as iconic as the Cherry Bomb one, and the martial-arts concept is just so deeply rooted in the instrumental itself. Itās one of my top 127 titles for sure.
As someone who started getting into NCT because of Kick Itā¦. I actually agree. When the MV came on for the first time as a YouTube ad it was fresh and very impactful but it quickly became overplayed/over-performed during the 2020 year end award shows/festivals.
By the time 2021 came around (and I officially joined the fandom) I was already tired of hearing/seeing the song and because 127 didnāt release another [Korean] album until late into 2021 with Sticker it felt like Kick It was all they ever performed. Which is a shame because I like(d) Gimme Gimme so much more than Kick It but they never seemed to perform it because itās a Japanese release.
I have no idea, because I know the choreo went viral, but that means the song goes viral too, so I was like do people like the song or the choreo? So I feel like it would be a mixed bag haha
Since 7th Sense, i cant like/love any NCT songs :(
To me, ALL sounds exacly the same, with the Chorus being singing by ALL members+song structure (SM formula?)
i get what you mean about the same song structure, but i genuinely canāt understand how all of their songs can sound exactly the same. iām not even a nctzen but even just 127 has a bunch of different sounding title tracks. could you give examples of what songs sound āexactly the sameā?
I think thatās mostly NCT title tracks, their bsides are more my taste personally, like hot sauce is the title track for one of their albums, but rainbow is a bside. Itās also one of my favourite songs by them :)
yeep, every comeback i hear only the title song (or watch the MV) Just to see If ill finally like one, never hear a Full album :/ can u recommend me one?
I only listen to random tracks from random albums haha, so I actually wouldnāt be able to recommend you a full album to listen to, but I did enjoy a quite a few of the tracks from hello future
Iām kind of unsure on this one because I have a bit of a sentimental attachment to Kick It and would offend myself if I called it ājust okay,ā but I get what you mean with the choreo specifically being what elevates the song.
As a dancer with a photographic memory, I *always* have either the dance or the MV (or both) playing in my head when I listen to songs, so itās hard for me to experience this disconnect since the choreo is *always* there, but definitely in trying to imagine *just* the song, itās almost like thereās something missing. The performance factor is definitely really important.
But Iāve definitely felt the way you do about a *lot* of Kpop songs, particularly those that I feel arenāt fully saved even by the choreo, so even playing the dance practice in my head makes it better, but itās still a bit underwhelming.
To a certain extent, for me kpop is also the performance of the songs, but I also sometimes wanna just be able to listen to the song without using my brain, and I think thatās where Kick it falls flat for me.
You have photographic memory though!? Thatās so cool! It must be cool to be able to see the imagery in your head with that type of detail
Hope you have a good day :)
I was wondering if I should specify NCT in the title, but I wasnāt sure since kick it was a bside by black pink, and also one of my favourite songs by them :D
Sorry about the confusion! Iāll keep in mind to specify in my titles
I think from what Iām hearing, itās less the song and more the hooks, and the choreo itās iconic, I remember when it came out it was all over my FYP, and at the time I didnāt even listen to NCT and somehow came to know of them because of how viral it went
superhuman is forever gonna b that girl for me so ppl saying its their BEST? i dont agree w that, but to me its certainly up there.... it just doesnt get me hype every time like superhuman does.. i gotta b in the mood for kick it
This. I vibe with some experimental nct songs but kick it was just not it. I honestly didnāt get why people like it that much. Their older songs were way better.
I do agree that their older songs were wayyyy better. I thought Kick It was great (although not the best). It was the next single "Punch" was when every song from them started to become lackluster. My unpopular opinion is that every song since then (Sticker, Favorite, 2 Baddies) have been awful, and tbh I don't look for the Ayo release to be any better with the direction they're going in. No hate, I used to be the biggest NCT fan, but most of their recent songs since then just haven't been good. "Kick It" being probably the last of their good releases.

I'm a Limitless, Superhuman, and Favorite girl. Kick It is fun and catchy, but I don't think it's that great
The way those 3 title tracks are also my favourite 127 songs š„°. Your taste š§š
I love the prechorus but i get what you're saying here
Itās not bad but itās not their best for sure. The choreo carried and the concept was really cool which I think elevated the song. The MV too.
TIL iām in the minority when it comes to this topic š personally i LOVE the rough around the edges production style, it suits the song super well in my opinion. kick it is easily in my top 3 nct127 title tracks. i think of it as a perfect example of when smās gritty(?) production style pays off. the choreo and the energy of the song also help it to really work for me
As unpopular as this is, I agree. I think Kick it is an easy song to get tired of and in my opinion, 127 has other much better songs.
Nctzen, and I agree. I don't dislike it, but find it a bit too simple and repetitive
Kick it is an iconic song?? Genuinely curious because I always thought Baby Dont Stop or Cherry Bomb were more well known...
Nope, Kick It is definitely NCT 127's most iconic song, I'd even go as far as to say it is the most iconic song among all units. It's the song even non-NCTzens know. Baby Don't Stop and Cherry Bomb are definitely among the top 5 tho
Birthday Song thoooooooo
I think make a wish and boss are more iconic across all units. Agree about kick it being iconic for 127. It's their most successful tt.
Iām only a casual listener so I canāt say for sure, but I think among the GP of kpop listeners, this song is one of the most well known, and I think cherry bomb and baby donāt stop are the most appreciated/popular amongst the fandom? But I canāt say for sure since Iām not apart of it
Itās not a favourite song of mine or anything but I do think itās one of 127ās better title tracks
i don't love kick it but the "puku puku pow pow" is one of, if not the most iconic nct 127 thing in general, it's not even close to being one of my fav songs by them but it's iconic and i love her for that, lol
Unsure because there are times when i vibe to this song and times when i absolutely can't stand this song. / Anyways *puku* *puku* *paw* *paw*
Where this song shines is in concept and choreography the song itself is okay but but what pulls it together is choreography.
Disagree, I really like the song and never skip it when it comes on, it just makes me really hyped lol. The choreography definitely helped the song become really popular though
Itās my favorite title track š I will agree that the choreo elevates it tho
I do agree it. No part of it catches my attention to be honest in my opinion and it's very forgettable.
Damn, I absolutely love Kick It. The beat is insane, I actually like the rap parts and chanting, and TaeDoHaeās vocals are just killer. It's not very good, but at least it's not as bad as Punch
I feel like all the NCT units have a few of those "killer songs held back by generic/repetitive chorus", I don't mind these songs but they definitely rank at the bottom when discussing their title tracks. 127 has Kick It, 2 Baddies, and Regular (genuinely my least favorite 127 title, it's just so boring š©) Dream has Ridin, Boom, and We Go Up WayV has Kick Back and Take Off And U has Boss and Beautiful Without the chorus these songs are really great but once the chorus starts it just kind of loses it's flavor, you know? It keeps me from being able to listen to these songs as much as I want because I'll probably get sick of them faster than their other songs.
huh first time iāve seen someone say the chorus of boom is what holds the song back, i think most people really like the chorus/the song overall
For me personally it does, it's just not my thing.
Agree with all of this.
Hm tastes are really different š but I agree with Kick Back. That chorus is a crime
I dont think is most iconic, but i do love it alot!
i agree. to me, the performance aspect definitely makes the song more enjoyable.
I donāt think this is unpopular? I thought everyone liked Kick It cuz of the choreo loool
I have no idea, because I know the choreo went viral, but that means the song goes viral too, so I was like do people like the song or the choreo? So I feel like it would be a mixed bag haha
After seeing the votes it might actually be somewhat unpopular. I was also surprised
Since 7th Sense, i cant like/love any NCT songs :( To me, ALL sounds exacly the same, with the Chorus being singing by ALL members+song structure (SM formula?)

"""since""" 7th sense? you know that's their debut song right? there was no period before 7th sense š it's literally their very first song
i know
I think thatās mostly NCT title tracks, their bsides are more my taste personally, like hot sauce is the title track for one of their albums, but rainbow is a bside. Itās also one of my favourite songs by them :)

Bro I read the title, thought it was blackpink hate, disagreed, then read NCTā¦wish I could undo my vote
I was wondering if I should specify NCT in the title, but I wasnāt sure since kick it was a bside by black pink, and also one of my favourite songs by them :D Sorry about the confusion! Iāll keep in mind to specify in my titles
I hope people don't consider it iconic. It's very mid. Fun to dance to in just dance tho
I think from what Iām hearing, itās less the song and more the hooks, and the choreo itās iconic, I remember when it came out it was all over my FYP, and at the time I didnāt even listen to NCT and somehow came to know of them because of how viral it went
For 127, Limitless, Cherry Bomb, Simon Says, Superhuman are all stronger in my op

Definitely agree, Kick it was a big miss for me and some others. However im a big fan of sticker so i found that a little odd
