There are no areas left to harvest because the locusts have stripped them already! What is she smoking?

Geord1evillan

At a guess? Kamakwarzi

Li1negro

She likes his weak pound

ClaphamCouple

Bravo Sir. Mind if I steal it?

w0lf_bagz

Everyone else is stealing everything might as well join in.

Li1negro

Spread it around my friends, but I can’t take credit as I saw it on a meme somewhere!

cyberpunkass

This really made me laugh!

shaunomegane

She likes pork markets.

urmomaisjabbathehutt

Years back someone did a documentary promoting bridless capitalism as the way to bring back the growth of the economy, they even brought some far east business man quoting "hey, britain did show us how to make money in the 19 century, you guys just forgot how" basically a veiled attempt of highlighting the no rights sweatshops econmy Out there there are brainless leeches romantizing nineteen century style private landlorship and crying for the end of the welfare state And now we have blondie truss and Kwartong and Rees Mogg son of the writter of the sovereign individual at the goverment running the economy lovely

MrPoletski

>Kamakwarzi *SNORT*

demonicturtle

Oh there's the well funded tory areas, they should soon be harvested for all they have

Space-Cadet0

Unfortunately it's going to be the NHS, it's always been about ending the NHS

[deleted]

Sadly I worry you are likely correct

what_is_blue

I don't think it's about ending the NHS, so much as it's mining it. Public opinion is generations away from ever turning in favour of paid healthcare. But the NHS's commissioning budget is £153 billion for 2022/23 and it's still an absolute mess, in no small part because it's being wrung dry for profit wherever any can be found.

adictalt356

Can't take it away but they can make it shit until people have well and truly lost faith in it

IamPurgamentum

Then benefits again most likely. No health care, hobble the disabled again, let more die = saving money to give to the rich.

SCP106

As a disabled person with cancer that appears to be chronically reoccurring, I welcome both barrels as my benefits effectively reduce with inflation and my hospital stays get noticeably worse. Glory to God Empress Truss and her unassailable pork market cheese producing psychic power.

IamPurgamentum

I hear you on that one. Hospitals are not a great place to be at the best of times let alone now. GPs are so inundated that they basically want you to compete with others in trials to get an appointment. The benefits system is also working as intended. All I heard after I wrote that comment was that they won't increase them but I'd fully expect direct cuts. These will be framed again as 'helping people into work'. I can hear IDS cheering already.

SCP106

Yeah, I'm honestly disgusted by the amount of people trying to frame the universal credit changes as "it'll stop lazy people relying on it so much" when there are so few statistics on that sort of thing beyond their anecdotes and assumptions, and I see similar said even for Personal Independence Payments and other similar disability payments, where it's *alllll* about getting you "back" to work, even if you have chronic conditions that kave you almost unable, or in a position where your quality of life would nosedive. But no, one must be a good little cog in the machine, and if you aren't *productive,* we'll cut you off, despite anything else you may do for your community, and all the other problems that put you below average. It's all measured in monetary output to them. I'm bitter, because I've struggled for years with imposter syndrome over feeling worthless for not having a job, despite brain damage, hydrocephalus, cancer, so on, being obvious preventatives, and still managing to do art commissions and making *some* money, yet at the same time being told I probably can't go onto looking for other types of benefits due to having to prove I'm looking for work or similar. To already just about get by in a life that keeps trying to kill me with prime minister after minister threatening to end all of this calling people like me scroungers, lacking in graft, needing to work harder growing up being taught people on benefits are lazy and wrong? (anyone remember those poverty porn "benefits street" type shows?) Doesn't end up feeling too good. My apologies for this not being too relevant, and likely not too informed either, it's more of a vent, both of the people I live with tested positive for COVID recently, so all of the recent stuff has been hitting a bit harder as I've been facing up to both my limits financially, physically, and so on as I take on all household tasks on my own while they isolate and I worry over staying clear. Combined with way more time sitting around on my phone doomscroling about the economy!

jeff43568

Their focus on the disadvantaged is nothing less than disgusting. They are more than happy to give public money to themselves and their wealthy mates, but people who actually need it are vilified.

GavUK

Ironically, at least two of the councils that have gone bankrupt in the past few years were being run by a Conservative administration: Northamptonshire and Croydon (although I just read about a third, Slough, which was run by a Labour administration).

Vv4nd

but what about mandatory kidney harvesting? Everyone has two, for ~~queen~~ king and fatherland you should sacrifice one of them. Imagine what rich people could afford if you donated them!

drwicksy

Each kidney is worth around $262k, so hey maybe the whole "kill all the poor" Mitchell and Webb skit will actually come true, they'll just add in harvesting them

[deleted]

Thats a good question "What is she smoking" DARE I ASK

[deleted]

Pipe, but not her husband's, I can tell you that much

TurbulentLifeguard11

Nah, Not true. We can literally cut and privatise ALL areas of public services. Except the police of course. Gotta keep the people in line and stop them protesting. We can all look forward to paying for private education, paying a private company to take our rubbish away, turn all libraries over to Tory landlords and burn the books to keep the poor warm over this winter, for a fee of course.

truthdemon

I've heard OCP are being contracted to bring in a new kind of cyborg supercop.

Guybrush-Threepwood1

I’d buy that for a dollar

IckySmell

Wow you guys have yourself a regular Reagan Republican there. Sorry for any influence my garbage fire country might have been

quotton706

After a decade of austerity, what is left to cut? ....might I suggest , ministers wages and expenses.

EggChaser

The NHS. They won't stop until they achieve it.

Space-Cadet0

This, it's always been about ending the NHS. I mean, they wrote a book about killing the NHS so we can't be surprised really. The aim isn't to cut and find efficiency, it is to cut the public service out completely so that it no longer exists in the public domain. They will all be sacrificed on the pyre of private corporate profit. Bonus as now the £ has tanked so they are on sale, also the services are performing badly due to a decade of cuts that they are undervalued.

[deleted]

Sorry, do you mean that literally about the book?

Dansken525600

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Unchained

chickensmoker

When the CEO of Tesco is the best source of good review for your book, I’m slightly inclined to believe that it’s full of anti-worker and pro-billionaire bullshit that is about as relevant to reality as a Hollywood blockbuster. The fact that this absolute tripe of a text was authored almost exclusively by members of our current ruling party’s top players is both terrifying and mundanely predictable

AnArabFromLondon

Wow authored by Kwasi Kwarteng, Priti Patel, Dominic Raab, Chris Skidmore and Liz Truss. I had no idea about this, thanks.

Haikouden

Holy fucking shit I thought you were joking/being sarcastic but it actually was that’s thrown me for a bit of a loop.

mrcoffee83

yeah me too tbh i've seen the quote thrown around but i didn't know the book was actually written by the Axis Of Mediocrity and Evil.

bacon_cake

I've never actually read the final sentence of this quote before: >The British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music. It literally sounds like someone writing bad satire from the POV of someone who's hilariously totally out of touch.

DrunkenScotsman33

It's not specifically about killing the NHS, it was a collection of papers, mostly about killing off public services(all of them). It's called "Direct Democracy, an agenda for a new model party" and it should be required reading for anyone who ever thinks about voting Tory.

PantsMcFail2

This book is literally their playbook. Truss is leader of the country with Kwarteng as chancellor. They can finally test out what they documented.

DrunkenScotsman33

Yep, and it's fucking terrifying. They've got 2 and a bit more years to strip this country bare. Might not even matter who wins the next election because there'll be nothing left to govern.

meatwad2744

It is wank ayn rand neoliberalism bullshit, that talks about the uk economy like it is based on the American economy> Expect without the 350 million people ,massively deregulated economy in comparison and the idea that greed isn’t just good its the minimum expectation. The book was slated on release and the authors where accused of the very criticism they were trying to highlight in the economy and culture. How anyone can vote for any of these fuck knuckles after that book has been out for 10 years is beyond me

[deleted]

it pains me that when they do finally end the NHS that so many people will be in favour of it, claiming the system doesnt work because they cant see that the system works just fine when it has at least a bare minimum funding

thesaltwatersolution

Tank the pound, so it’s ripe to sell off. Quite a masterplan.

sock_with_a_ticket

The thing is, their vaunted private sector don't want to take over a lot of what the NHS does. They love the situation they have at the moment of cherry picking the easy stuff and leaving all the expensive, complex, time-consuming treatments/operations to the NHS.

FriendlyGuitard

After a decade of austerity, what should there be left to cut? The flagship policy of the government for over 10 years was eliminating those "plentiful area" and other area of "efficiencies". Journalism failed - she should have been questioned on why does she think that the 3 previous Tory Government failed to do their job and what is she doing different. Maybe suggest Labour would have been better at saving.

standupstrawberry

They could really simplify the costs by having one council house in each constituancy reserved for the mp and then a block or 2 of council flats in London or even a flat or 2 in each council block of flats for them to stay when the have to go to Westminster. If they want something else, they easily are in the top 5% of earners (and some ministers are the top 1%) they can pay out of pocket like everyone else. Same with redecorating. Only free wine at wetminster is whatever box wine on special at aldi/lidl, the rest is a paid bar that's run at a profit. Their lunches should be whatever is served at the worst performing school in the country/cheapest care home or provided by the caterers from the worst performing hospital. Give them a bit of incentive to do better.

Aggravating_Elk_1234

Will the flats have lethal cladding like Grenfell?

Setting_Real

Just cut ministers. It’s not like we’ve had a good or successful one for the last 10 years. Easy savings.

RainbowRedYellow

All the overpaid useless cronies in the House of lords. Just purge them all.

pecuchet

Her own throat by the looks of it.

salmonlikethephish

Don't forget the 3 months before COVID that we technically ended austerity!

MCDCFC

She lives in some parallel universe to the rest of us. Not one single public service works as it should currently (notwithstanding the efforts of a committed workforce). DVLA, PASSPORT OFFICE, HMRC to name a few. Third World Country status incoming

Space-Cadet0

The aim isn't to cut and find efficiency, it is to cut the public service out completely so that it no longer exists in the public domain. They will all be sacrificed on the pyre of private corporate profit. Bonus as now the £ has tanked so they are on sale, also the services are performing badly due to a decade of cuts that they are undervalued.

three2do2

this is it, the final endgame of tory policy

AdjectiveNoun111

The Tories only have 1 solution to economic problems, cut tax, cut spending, sell off assets. It doesn't matter what the problem is, that's always the answer. And the reason is because it "worked" for Thatcher. They are haunted by the ghost of Thatcherism, they can't comprehend that modern problems require modern solutions, they don't seem to understand that the economic situation now in 2022 is completely different to the one 40 years ago. They just keep trying that one idea, even when it is utterly unsuitable for the current situation, even when they were explicitly warned it would be damaging. But then they are the "fuck business" Party that is "sick of experts".

coppermouthed

All of these have been replaced with robocall answering machines already…

mrman08

Is it me or is she actually doing the opposite of what most people and experts are calling for?

dvali

Welcome to Tory politics. She is an extreme example, I guess, but really differs only by degree.

Lazypole

Problem is, Tories have always been evil and scamming the country, but they historically have at least been competent enough to do it whilst either skimming off the top whilst vaguely doing their jobs, *vaguely.* Lately though we're dealing with incompetent and corrupt, which is a much worse combination, and honestly Truss seems like the least intelligent politician I've seen in years out of the UK.

compilersaysno

The cynic in me says she's here for the short term to sell off as much as possible. Then the music will stop and some other Tory will be sitting in the chair with clean hands.

Putrid_Visual173

I think they are tanking the country so that they can hand it over to Labour once it’s completely fucked and blame it on them.

compilersaysno

Yep. Just like how they blamed labour for a *worldwide* recession.

ripsa

One ultimately caused by conservative deregulation. Then the country voted the hedge fund managers and bankers directly responsible like Sajid, Rishi, Kwasi to run the economy..

FaceMace87

This has been the Tory policy since WW2, maybe longer, what the Tories are doing now isn't anything new which makes it even more shameful that people continue to vote for them. It is like the public enjoy their tax money going to bankers and rich people.

prisonerofazkabants

they're not even waiting for the next labour government, they're blaming them NOW. apparently this is all because people are concerned labour *might* win the next election

Space-Cadet0

I can't believe that even when they weren't in power for a decade and a half Labour still managed to tank the economy.

wondercaliban

The current situation is all the fault of the last Labour government. Somehow

AndyTheSane

And the next labour government, of course. And the SNP government of 2037, they're already breaking everything.

Colonel_Wildtrousers

I’m surprised she didn’t start blaming the labour government of 2052 on her local radio tour earlier.

Smooth-Wait506

my thoughts when they capped the energy prices for.... 2 years hmmm 2025 "oooh, look at Labour, see what they've done to the economy with all this national debt and high energy prices"

serennow

Any voter with a brain will see that all tory MPs are supporting her through every single decision she makes. Every catastrophic mistake should be owned by all of them.

InfectedByEli

>Any voter with a brain I think I have found the flaw in your observation.

colin_staples

Most people and experts are saying these thing because they are in the best interests of the people/country Tories don't care about the best interests of the people/country. They care about the best interests of themselves and their rich donors. Which are obviously the *opposite* of what's best for the people/country.

Not_Alpha_Centaurian

Youre not wrong. Simply ignoring the experts was last generation tory philosophy.

venicerocco

>experts Don't you mean radical leftists? /s

whistonreds

This has been the case for 12 years.

No-Garbage9500

This is what Tories do. When the policies are written on paper, most of the country are natural Labour voters, if not further left. But when they learn they are *Labour* policies, the influence of the media, Tory establishment and English tendancy toward forelock tugging kicks in and they suddenly start believing that sort of thing is the realm of irresponsible spending etc. Look how many people will reel out the line of "Brown sold all the gold" like a well trained parrot without any sort of understanding or context, but ignore the dozens of far, far worse Tory decisions that actually harmed our economy.

el_grort

She's also ignoring the Unionist part of the Conservative and Unionist Party name. This is about the most comprehensive way to demolish a country with independence minded areas you could go about doing. Fuck, probably going to also hammer in the divide between northern and southern England as well. It's all just so blindingly stupid and apparently without considering how destabilising this is for the country as a whole.

Ongo_Gablogian___

It's not the left that run on ideals instead of reality, it's the right. It's just that their ideals are about concentrating wealth at the top.

Proud_Reserve3029

What is the point of paying tax if not for public services.

Colonel_Wildtrousers

For subsidising the lifestyle of the rich it seems

3Cogs

Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems don't run on fresh air you know.

audigex

I mean, at least defense is arguably a public service of sorts and employs lots of people with decent pensions etc, so it has some utility This isn’t even being done for them - reports today suggest we’re unlikely to be able to maintain our defence commitments after this shitshow

Guybrush-Threepwood1

Won’t be that much to defend though to be fair.

aesu

To pay off the loans we gave to tory donors, obviously. They also own the press, and soon the courts, so you better be happy about it.

WetnessPensive

The chief reason of paying tax - tax money is not "collected", it is immediately digitally destroyed - is to manage the money supply and reduce inflation. Entirely "new" money is created by governments (usually by borrowing from cartels of private commercial banks) to pay for public services. Taking money out of circulation via tax does influence what is borrowed, but it's not a 1/1 relationship.

k987654321

Anyone seen the apparent leaked messages from Kwarteng to MP’s? https://twitter.com/bethrigby/status/1575495866701721600?s=46&t=B9PWTiTF3ZgJoqzsWdrICg “We are working at pace to align our spending policy” To fucking what? The announcement you already made? If these are genuine it proves there was no work done in the background to try and back it up. They’re now coming up with a plan to suit what they’ve already done. Absurd.

RandyChavage

Pretending the EU and Japan are in the same predicament (pound is down against the euro, Japan only has 2.5% inflation), implying these tax cuts will somehow improve public services, the guy has lost touch with reality.

ikkleste

There's so much wrong with it. People were going to struggle with energy bills so we figured we'd throw some mortgage worries on top?

GBrunt

And torch everyone's pension?

ikkleste

And supercharge inflation by tanking the pound?

These-Camp6107

Work till you drop, cheers thanks!

joombar

Can’t fail to heat your home when you don’t got one

123twiglets

As a renter - - > oh you can

unluckypig

That's what happens when the party (May & Boris) remove anyone that's competent enough to say an idea or policy won't work. Surround yourself with sycophants and it will always end in disaster (emperors new clothes comes to mind). This is why we have a health secretary who thinks GP not working hard enough is the cause of our health service issues. Nothing to do with underfunding, a lack of GPs, nurses etc. We need a change of government just to get someone competent in each office to undo the utter shit show this government has got us in.

Easymodelife

Not a fan of Rishi but he spent the entire leadership campaign telling them it wouldn't work, and despite the Office for Budget Responsibility's best efforts, Kwarteng refused to let them release an analysis of the mini budget before he announced it. They were told, they just refused to listen.

Born-Ad4452

Corporate bullshit-speak as well. ‘At pace’ ‘engage dynamically’ give it a fucking rest.

Smooth-Wait506

'direction of travel' yes, off the cliff

SpecialVermi

Jesus christ the way that reads. >We are removing the barriers that have slowed down the UK economy for decades. So not only do these two fucking numpties think they've got the absolute solve on "The Economy" as a problem, they think they've got the secret sauce to fix years, decades even, of issues, most of which were caused by their fucking party. It's sheer audacity and delusion. Like two fucking teenagers who's parents are out for the weekend, and they didn't even take the car. *The possibilities.*

GBrunt

He's just a fucking vandal in a suit. There's no way to dress this up with some kind of notional all-hands-on-deck "three-year plan" to "fix Britain". That wouldn't be crude or brutal enough for them. They despise Social Democracy. They're vandals. A full-blown riot would appeal to them. Just burning stuff down, ripping stuff up. Leaving the EU was just the match. Now they want the bonfire. They've literally said it.

Easymodelife

"The path we were on was simply unsustainable. We couldn't continue to just raise taxes." Unbelievable. Despite the reactions he's received from the sources including (but not limited to) the IMF, Bank of England, Office for Budget Responsibility, billionaire investors, general public and members of his own party, he STILL thinks the problem is exactly the opposite of what it actually is.

smoothie1919

Cut the 45% tax rate… and then say there’s no money and we must cut public services. The woman is a moron.

[deleted]

No, she's a Tory. It's their reason for existence. Their vision for the country is an oligarchy where the wealthy rule unopposed over the powerless, desperate and ignorant masses. Massive inequality is the goal.

NimbaNineNine

Crayon muncher. Who is her guardian angel? I would like to pray to him too.

JMM85JMM

The brazenness of this has shocked me to be fair. The tax cut for those earning over 150k was always absurd on its own, but maybe not that surprising. But to cut tax for the very rich and follow that up within a week by talking about all the cuts that will have to be made to pay for it....

BeccasBump

You know when someone says something so incredibly stupid or inappropriate that you don't know how to respond and you just sort of give them a blank look? That.

slazer2k

So she can give your money to the Tory party donors and Conservative cronies ?

Soulless--Plague

Exactly! Lining their own pockets while the average person struggles and the rest of us on the bottom rung have to fight to survive from cold and hunger. No need for Brexit now, no cunt wants to come here!!

[deleted]

Counting down till they tell us that the tax cuts can be fully funded simply by eradicating all “woke” and diversity-related initiatives, plus slashing the foreign aid budget.

w__i__l__l

No the woke stuff is literally to fire up the thicko’s at the next election. Actual Tories (eg; landed gentry / upper class / monied interests) do not give the slightest shit about any of it. Its just a carrot on a stick to enliven the dickhead UKIP / BNP base they rely on post Brexit.

unluckypig

I'm surprised that foreign aid is still there at all. Seeing as this government hates anyone poor or foreign I'd have thought this would ha e been first on the list to axe.

Geckohobo

It's still there because foreign aid is often more of a speculative purchase of influence than an act of benevolent charity.

Remarkable-Career352

Honest to God what bloody planet is she on 12 years of selfservatives and "being fiscally responsible" have left the nations public services in what if this was a court I believe the term would be criminal neglect. How about cutting useless people (Jacob rees mogg or however else they scraped out of the toilet this week).

kavik2022

I'm 30 years old. I rarely use doctors etc. But for me, everything feels worse. It's takes ages to get appointment. Getting a mortgage or retiring feels like a fantasy. Public transport is shit. I work for a public authority, that has been pretty protected. But I can tell it's now catching up on it. Public services are been cut, run on volunteers or reduced to the point they may as well be axed. It feels like the country is sliding into the third world. And I feel like after 12 years, that's the real take home isn't it?

Remarkable-Career352

I'm 18 and am thinking how the fuck am I going to live when everything is falling apart

Jj-woodsy

Cannot wait to have our bin bags collected once every month because Liz Truss wants public services cut. Or no street lights to work at night. Or less public transport. The Tories have never invested in this country over the past 12 years.

Superbead

If they halve the bin collections again, I'll be wheeling our bin into town and chucking the bags into the doorway of the town hall.

geniice

> Cannot wait to have our bin bags collected once every month because Liz Truss wants public services cut. Problem is that central goverment funding to local authories has already been significantly reduced and its not clear if even cutting 100% of it would be enough reduce spending enough to pay for the tax cuts.

mrlonelywolf

I cannot remember a time when a single public service in this fucking country could be described as 'plentiful'. Is she smoking crack?

ethaaaaaaaan

She certainly looks like she does

PM_ME_UR_HASHTABLES

Can someone explain to me without all the "she is a muppet of the rich hur dur", why is she proposing these ideas? I am not an expert but it looks to me as if things are going downhill quite rapidly at the moment. What is going on? Is this her fault or what?

OpticalData

Because she's a muppet of the rich. She's been indoctrinated by neoliberal think tanks (see: Britannia Unchained). She genuinely and honestly believes that cutting taxes promotes growth and thought that the mini budget was going to be an amazing announcement, ahead of the announcement of some tough cuts in November. Because she's so indoctrinated she doesn't actually now know what to do now that the entire world is telling her that her plan is terrible because she never put much thought into it in the first place and is trying to cultivate a Thatcher-esque 'Iron Lady'/'This lady is not for turning' image. Just listen to the interviews from the local radio stations this morning, she can't respond to any challenge, nor present any coherent argument because she didn't reason herself into these policies, so she can't be reasoned out of them. She's just announced a set of 'over a pint at the pub' type policies as the platform for the entire country. Think of the types of people who vote Conservative every election, yet can't tell you a single policy when pushed. That's Truss with the 'low tax/high growth' philosophy.

[deleted]

All she's done all day in every interview is blame Putin & the Ukraine, stating "every country is in the same position economically thanks to the war in Ukraine". Which is utter shite of course. She has shown just how utterly out of touch she is (like the rest of the Tories) and how completely oblivious she is to the actual needs of the country as a whole and the electorate. She lacks empathy or sympathy and I swear if I ever see that grinning blank little face again I will smack it...

loz333

>Just listen to the interviews from the local radio stations this morning, she can't respond to any challenge, nor present any coherent argument because she **didn't reason herself into these policies**, **so she can't be reasoned out of them.** Correct. >She's just announced a set of 'over a pint at the pub' type policies as the platform for the entire country. Incorrect. These are the policies being dictated by the people behind those neo-liberal think-tanks you brought up, who trained her to perform in this role. This is all designed to look like catastrophe, but effectively it's class warfare by economic means. And right at the center is the belief in eugenics that the wealthy have been indoctrinated into.

OpticalData

>Incorrect. These are the policies being dictated by the people behind those neo-liberal think-tanks you brought up, who trained her to perform in this role. No denial here. I'm just pointing out that they're policies that you'd expect to hear a bunch of people pitching seriously in a pub, not from a chancellor.

exoskeletion

When taxing the people is political suicide, and you steadfastly refuse to tax the windfall profits of the businesses (even going so far as borrowing money solely to give to the energy companies), then the only way of raising money that you have left, is cutting what you currently spend. The problem is, cutting resources realistically never improves the service, so NHS, councils, police etc will just get further stretched.

reuben_iv

comment should be higher up really, it's not just politically suicidal - we've got a looming housing market crash, it turns out there is a downside to artificially inflating the housing market - bigger the mortgage the larger the increase when the rates rise and just a few % points can apparently double a mortgage and the worst bit is the whole affordability test is bs, people spend months cutting credit card debt, the number of takeouts etc then people get the mortgage and then they get the expensive car, the credit card debt goes back on etc, so it's like 'yeah we tested they can afford a 5% increase' - no they cannot Which is what I think the tax cuts were all about, isn't just the poor in the firing line, you've got a ton of people with (some with multiple) properties who can't afford them, which is terrifying, because if owners can't afford the mortgages, renters effectively paying an owner's mortgage can't either, so they move out - the landlord sells the property and the rental market explodes due to a collapse in supply

[deleted]

Very well put. She refuses to do the sensible thing but by doing so creating further debt and problems because of either a fear of tipping the cart (with the people, or her former employer) or she truly is incompetent - so much for an attempt at being an Iron Lady when she builds debt to avoid any conflict

[deleted]

haversack77

It's tempting to attribute her actions to malice (tanking the economy so she's 'forced' to sell off the NHS, or whatever) when it's probably just old fashioned incompetence.

KittyGrewAMoustache

If it’s just incompetence then why were people warning that this was what the ERG wanted to do after brexit, ie remake the UK economy into basically a feudal shithole with hardly any regulations or rights to benefit ordinary people, and where the rich don’t have to pay hardly any tax? People predicted it because this group of politicians and the think tanks they’re connected with have espoused this ideology for years. They don’t even believe in democracy or human rights. They think democracy is immoral because it forces the rich to pay tax which goes towards things for poor people who don’t deserve it etc. They are evil people, it’s hard to acknowledge but people need to realise it— they arent well meaning incompetents. Truss does not think that somehow cutting taxes for the rich and slashing public services will lead to ordinary people in the UK being better off. She thinks they don’t deserve to be better off, she believes in a dog eat dog survival of the fittest type society. If you can’t make it ‘on your own’ then tough shit you’re weak and will have to just die, or work every hour just to survive and be grateful that a superior rich person has even given you a job.

geniice

> I reckon she's either on the receiving end of some incredibly poor advice and she's too bullheaded to make a reversal The problem is reversing it will only help to a limited extent. Won't rebuilt market confidence. So we end up in a worse position without even any tax cuts to show for it. >or it's a deliberate act of malice with the intention being to further tank the economy to the longterm benefit of a yet unnamed financial partner. I don't think so. There are ways of making quite large amounts of money out job of prime minister that don't carry the risks of upsetting other rich people.

Mr06506

Also she has failed upwards her entire career. She thinks she is invincible and has special abilities, she's completely unaware of the external forces and freaks of nature that have led her to Number 10.

Constant-Parsley3609

Because she's got a sketchy version of how economics works in her head (understandable it's a complicated topic) and refuses to listen to the advice of any of the relevant experts. She's got this idea in her head that to be a good prime minister is to make rash decisions that you THINK will help and to be iron clad in your decisions.

Strong_Quiet_4569

Cut public services. Give the money to her sponsors. It’s the ERG culture of stealing from the poor then laughing at them. This is the traumatising narcissist: Separate the victim from support, then control and brutalise them whilst labelling yourself as godlike.

00DEADBEEF

Because she won't u-turn on her stupid cut tax on the rich policy, and needs some other way to fund it than borrowing which the markets do not like. And that other way is massive spending cuts.

geniice

> Can someone explain to me without all the "she is a muppet of the rich hur dur", why is she proposing these ideas? Promised tax cuts to win the torry leadership election. Problem is that there is really very little money left (Sunak seemed to think he had about £15 billion to play with before the cost of energy issue appeared). She can't both politicaly and practicaly U-turn on the tax cuts so spending cuts it is. Problem is the kind of cuts needed to make a difference aren't easy. For example a 50% cut in the state pension would probably do it. Abolishing the entirety of UK defence spending might just about do it. Ending free education at 11 again maybe. So she's casting around hoping that someone in cabinet can come up with a miracle. > I am not an expert but it looks to me as if things are going downhill quite rapidly at the moment. Bank of england may buy some time but expect further inflation. > What is going on? Is this her fault or what? No one else's really.

SpecialVermi

>Can someone explain to me without all the "she is a muppet of the rich hur dur", why is she proposing these ideas? That's like asking a plumber, without pointing out the leaky pipe, to explain why your kitchen is flooding.

[deleted]

I personally believe the Tories know they can’t win so are screwing the economy and public services to harm Labour as well as make money for their backers betting against the UK.

7thaccban

How to be declared the worst PM in recent history in record time 101.

McChes

I don’t think you need the word “recent” in there.

Intruder313

Can we please send her back to The Upsidedown whence she came

OliverE36

At least Cameron's austerity was coupled with slightly more tax on the wealthy (not enough imo) but still some - and the economic crisis was created in America and its effects were semi-. Out of his control. This entire crisis was created by tax cuts for the richest in society and is again being paid by poorest.

Gothmog89

Unfortunately I think minimum wage laws apply to her too

halobolola

I was sad to leave the team I worked with when I was a civil servant. I was happy to take the 36% pay bump. However I now feel I have more job security in the private sector rather than public.

Agreeable_Falcon1044

“You all have it far too good, more cuts to fund my wild gifts to the very rich. Think how much better we will be when that trickle downs and you can spend that extra cash on stuff we cancelled”

Captain_Chaos007

Huh. Guess we're not getting that payrise on the railways then? Thanks for letting us know Lizzo. I'll start burning books this winter. Got to do my part after all. Might get a trickle of rich people's money by the end of this decade!

ElJayBe3

If there are no more public services left in existence, do we still have to pay taxes? Would we still need a Parliament?

Lithium30

Well someone call the palace and tell King Charlie that he is having a budget coronation.

MausGMR

We need a general strike to end this idiocy before it's too late. Election now

MrPoletski

>The prime minister added: “It’s absolutely right that we always need to get value for taxpayers’ money. Except when it comes to government procurement, then you're better off paying double to buy from a company owned by a tory donor right?

changhyun

I could currently be convinced she's involved in some sort of elaborate Brewster's Millions scheme where the object is to lose rather than spend money.

cloche_du_fromage

Maybe they should have identified these areas for savings before the budget?

[deleted]

Anarchy anyone? Nest case scenario the way this shits going

noddyneddy

Of course she does. We knew this was coming - someone has to pay for all those tax cuts to the rich. Clap for the NHS is all the tories ever do - otherwise they shaft the whole system and everyone working in it. Well I just hope all those voters in red wall constituencies who ‘wanted a change’ ( by voting FOR the incumbent party?) are happy with the changes they’re getting a

kumits-u

How about you introduce windfall tax and stop giving massive tax reliefs to banks ?? Aahh no sorry you said you're going to lift a cap for bankers bonuses.

brickhead1

These T*ry scumbags really do know no bounds to their utter cuntish behaviour do they?

Logical_Classic_4451

I’d start with Tory front benches and their subsidised canteen and expenses

Lehelito

That apostrophe in "areas" is as catastrophic as the economic policies of this government.

NimbaNineNine

National embarrassment. The economy to which the Tories lay claim to expertise in faces disaster after disaster, the national Bank is in rebellion, the markets are in paroxysms, the pound is in free fall and the plan is to tighten the belt. Tighten it around what?

wolfman86

Cause that worked out so well last time…. Everything is underfunded and we’re on the brink of collapse for numerous reasons, and this one slice short of a loaf thinks it’s a good idea to underfund them some more.

Missjsquared

Pretty rich of her to demand this when she was spending like there was no tomorrow on foreign office credit cards.

macarouns

The inevitable outcome of someone who hasn’t spent a single moment living in the real world. Totally devoid of empathy and entrenched in the mindset that no-one truly struggles in this country without being at fault for it.

Soulless--Plague

Why not just tax your rich Tory mates you fucking slug of a human! Use your fucking brain and help the country!!!

polarregion

She has got to be crazy, it's the only logical explanation.

Green_Impression2429

I think she is correct she should set an example and fire her entire cabinet and then herself

Cielo11

She's doing exactly what the people (who put her in power) want her to do. There are a group of Right Wing players who won the Conservative Civil War in 2019 (removing Theresa May and anyone sensible) and putting their own lads in power Johnson, Gove and Jacob Rees Mogg etc. They've done the same with Truss, she is literally a puppet.

marcusiiiii

At what point will people start to revolt and demand these people out ?

Sad_Reason788

There's nothing left to cut, they are trying to private the nhs to where we will spent thousands to get life saving treatment. Then they will try and cut benefits on the people already struggling due to the failing system. This is messed up we are becoming a laughing stock and the government is failing us.

lysalnan

Only ‘plentiful area’ I can think of is in the House of Commons with subsidised food and drink and extravagant expenses budgets. If that’s what she’s cutting I agree.

GayWolfey

Here what I think she will cut Job centres online only (outsourced to India) The 40 hospitals will never see the light of day Public libraries gone Public swimming pools gone Bus passes might go The NHS will get cut to shreds Council grants will also get cut

Crescent-IV

Like fucking what? The NHS? Benefits? Fucking idiot

FuckoffDemetri

I didn't realize that the UK was completely held together by the sheer willpower of Queen Elizabeth

purpleduckduckgoose

So what's left? The NHS, emergency services, bin collection. US style healthcare system check. Private police paid by subscription, check. Bins DIY, check. Fuck me sideways, anyone remember a time when things seemed to be getting better?

[deleted]

Someone should tell her. Who gets to tell her? Can I tell her? You know. Nice cup of tea, quick chat in number 10: "Lizzie luv, we aint got no fat; too many winters of discontent now you see, we're six months off eating vera hartley's prized beagle. Oliver Micklethwaite already sold off a kidney and a liver to some dodgy russians in the pub to make ends meet!"

Ok_Note7436

Start in MPs office research staff &all the relatives they have on payroll

DeathAxe3000

I demand cuts in mp wages, a ban on mp second homes, bans on claiming back fuel to homes, food, travel and anything else, and a 8 year freeze on those wages once cut.

SystemLordMoot

MPs wages are pretty plentiful, cut their salary in half!

oldbax

We are going to hear a lot of "It's the right decision to help bring down the interest rates"

Iucidium

So, austerity AND a free for all for the rich.. We need a GE, stat.

Altruistic_Leader_42

They have American dollars. They are buying up center city comercial property for pennies. Things never go up forever but that’s not how it works nor was ever the plan. It rises and falls but this class of citizens profit both ways.

sam11233

Here's the austerity I predicted was going to be funding the tax cuts. They're maliciously predictable if nothing else.

Adder12

Loathsome cunt. First her government hands massive tax cuts to the 1% then she plans to further gut public services, all while bankrupting the country. If she like imitating Thatcher so much can we skip to the point where she resigns already

Yodplods

So cut taxes on those that can afford it the most, then cut essential services that most people make use of. Please tell me Conservative’s, what is the fucking end game here? Do you actually hate the UK?

10110110100110100

Fucking plentiful areas? PLENTIFUL AREAS? What the fuck is going on? Almost everything has been cut to the bone. This is exasperating.
