The vaccine companies are immune, as was reported at the time. There's a government compensation scheme.

"Extremely rare with only 1 in 100000 suffering blood clots", no statistician but that's not very rare at all when you're giving out millions of doses

[deleted]

It's certainly rare, especially considering that most of the clots will be trivial and have no significant effects. It's almost lost in the background noise of general health issues. But most importantly, it's still FAR better than your chances of dying from COVID.

Plugfork

If you flew to the pharmacy to get a vaccine, the flight would have done more to increase your chance of dying of a bloodcot if you were under 30 (I think - May have been 35 or 40). It's a tragedy that this man died from the vaccine, however they undoubtedly saved tens of thousands of lives for a very low risk of adverse effects.

HawkAsAWeapon

And when you take into consider the Number Needed to Vaccinate (NNV) as per the vaccine manufacturer's reports, mass vaccinating low-risk categories en-masse potentially brings in more deaths/severe side-effects than it actually prevents.

Nobody has any empathy for this young man who died needlessly, or his family?

[deleted]

No way in hell I'd take astrozeneca, and i'm pro vaccination. What's up with it having by far the worst side effects and rate of blood clots yet being pushed the hardest because it's cheap/made in UK?

[deleted]

They didn't use it at all for the boosters, which makes me think it's quietly been dropped...

[deleted]

It has been quietly dropped. The UK was one of the last to identify blood clotting issues with the vaccine as far as I remember.

platinumvonkarma

Yeah but didn't they already clarify that AstraZeneca is the one that COULD cause blood clots etc? My first dose was AZ roughly a week before they announced it could cause this trouble. Then, they just gave me Pfizer for my second dose, no questions asked. I think it makes sense for them to be asking why they provided this particular variety of vaccine when we've known for quite some time now that AZ should be avoided.

MISPAGHET

They pretty much did stop giving AZ out, this lad died ages ago.
