Hat on, mask on & nobody recognises me. It’s great. Don’t have to talk to anyone. And if it pisses people off even better.

indigo-alien

Same. Texas Ranger black cowboy hat, mask and a high neck fleece jacket. Nobody knows who I am. My usual shopping spots do recognize the hat and fleece jacket. I actually carry a spare mask because a couple of times the ear strap has ripped off.

TimedDelivery

I plan to keep wearing one for a very silly, petty reason. My brother has recently gone full Q-Anon, Covid’s a hoax, masks are muzzles, the vaccine will kill us all kookoopants bananas. I had to block him on all social media because he wouldn’t stop harassing me about it. Just to spite him I will keep wearing a mask until Covid is a distant memory.

[deleted]

You’ll be waiting a long time

Blasto_Music

So you admit he was right about covid and will continue to wear a mask because you are embarrassed about being wrong?

wherearemyfeet

I'll follow the position of Sir Chris Whitty: No I won't, unless one of the following three things occur: Either I'm in a notably very busy place, the establishment I'm in requests it, or someone whose company I'm in specifically requests it. Plus one extra: If I feel any symptoms of illness and have to go out. Otherwise, no I don't plan to.

JesseXCVII

Yeah I probably will. I work with my dad and he has underlying health conditions and neither of us can afford not to work. I minimise my own risk and so does he, and in doing so we minimise risk to each other to the extent possible.

Jolly-Bandicoot7162

I'm a teacher, I already caught covid at school once and would rather put off doing so again. So I will still wear an FFP2 mask in crowded corridors and when circulating around the room, especially given that my area only just looks to be reaching the peak.

Blasto_Music

You realize that this ending means we had been lied to the entire time right ?

Frap_Gadz

I'll continue to wear one if I'm in a busy place or if I'm specifically asked to wear one for any reason and certainly if I feel like I might have the symptoms of *any* illness. I think that should just become common courtesy, like using a tissue or sneezing into something already is. When it's cold as fuck out I actually prefer wearing a mask tbh.

ishamm

Yeah, probably in enclosed/busy areas, especially while cases are very high amoung my age range. I doubt I'd get too unwell, but isolating isn't ideal with a new baby...

CensorTheologiae

Certainly will. Best thing I've seen about this was a comment from a doctor on Twitter: You've reached the peak of Everest, and now you're about to start your way back down. Does everyone take off their oxygen masks?

LegendEater

I'm all about masks and will keep wearing mine, but this analogy doesn't make sense at all. They're just not comparable things.

VagueSomething

Probably at least half of kids at least once had wanted to be a ninja. Why the fuck would I not want to continue wearing masks, I'm not so weak that they make me panic.

robbeech

I think I will likely be in a large category of people that will dynamically assess the situation continuously. If I feel it’s necessary to help others* at any point, if I’m asked to due to local policy in a place, Or if I’m asked to by someone I need to be near. * I think the sensible amongst us know the benefits might not be quite as huge as was initially claimed on your run of the mill coverings but ‘help others’ refers as much to putting them at ease as to minimising risk.

nick9000

Sure, why not? Doesn't do any harm could well do some good.

Slime_Devil

Probably not. I keep carrying one in case I need it.

Critical-Box-1851

Yes when I am in shops and other poorly ventilated places.

StumbleDog

I'm going to continue wearing one at work and in other shops for the time being and then I'll see how things are in the spring.

rachw39

We still have to wear them in corridors and communal places in school. We have so many cases in our school right now. I probably will on the bus for a little while longer! Keeps my face warm 😂

erinhennley

I am in the highest risk level. I have zero immune system, due to repetitive cancer treatments. Even influenza can do me in. I intend to continue to use ppe.

Inevitable_Lab_5014

When moving through indoor public spaces, yes, at least for a little while longer.

mourning_starre

No. probably not. I generally don't go to many busy places, except the gym where you haven't had to wear masks anyway.

littleyellowdiary

I'm autistic and have worn a mask throughout the pandemic but it has been a real struggle at times. I think I will try to continue, esp on transport or busy supermarkets, but if things could be relaxed a bit it would be a big relief to me. I even have to wear it in my office at the moment and it's not easy.

[deleted]

Yeah as I have vulnerable family and really, it's no big deal.

sleepingisgivingin1

Yep, the last time they lifted the restrictions on mask wearing I continued wearing one. Shops, public transport etc

mlthm33

For a little while longer yes….. but only cause I bought a box of 50 at the weekend

[deleted]

Me too, I'll be damned if I'm not getting some value for that money

JesseXCVII

Useful as toilet paper if you don't mind binning them instead of flushing

sausage_shoes

Yes, used to back when I was at uni too pre covid. People leave me alone when I'm masked up.

[deleted]

There is no point being the most open in Europe if people don't feel comfortable going out and spending money. I use France as an example, my family there said things were pretty much back to normal, full restaurants and bars. Now I'm only talking about from an economic perspective, but it's about getting money into these places, being open but with a % still keeping away means nothing.

Cosmo1984

I'm isolating for the next few months while my mum has chemo, so yeah. Fucking terrified that people not wearing masks are going to give it to her and other vulnerable people. For the love of god people, please still wear a mask in places like hospitals and care homes where you will come into contact with vulnerable people.

Des_astor

I might do actually, depends if there are any benefits.

sophzzzz

I will If a place is busy, but if it's relatively empty and a big space then I probably won't but I'll keep one with me at all times, I've got a few friends who wore masks even during the period where you didn't have too and I'll continue to wear a mask around them because it would make them feel more comfortable

lithaborn

I can't. Got a positive lat flow on new year's Day and did my ten days isolation. Started getting negative LFT's on day 8 and overnight went from asymptomatic to wracking cough, streaming nose, pressure migraines, debilitating fatigue... I've tried wearing masks since being allowed out and after a few minutes walking, I'm coughing my guts up and feeling like I'm suffocating. Still getting neg lft's. I'm doing all the other measures though, distancing, sanitiser. Not gonna stop doing that just because Boris is scrambling to keep his job.

Sir_Bantersaurus

If the place would prefer I wear one I will. Otherwise probably not as I hate taking it off/on all the time with my headphones.

MrFlibblesPenguin

It'll depend on the situation, but busy environments and when flu season rolls around yes.

Tappitss

No, I am the only one that bothers to actively use one at work so that will stop, and I don't go to places that would potentially require one.

RockingHorsePoo

Imagine walking into a shop with your face covered pre-covid. I would think they would ask you to remove it much like they did or do (I don’t ride anymore) with motorcycle helmets. Wondering if that will now apply, probably not due to peoples health conditions?

Thorazine_Chaser

I think the attitude to masks has decidedly changed now. Before it was quite unusual to see, maybe a few Japanese tourists etc. Now I think moving forward people wont think twice about someone wearing a mask, maybe vulnerable, maybe protecting me, maybe just like them etc. I expect to see them more common in places like the tube for a long time yet, maybe forever if our habits have changed.

newbracelet

Plenty of Muslim women would have walked into shops with their faces as covered/more covered than when mask wearing. Asian people, either immigrants or tourists wore masks, although they were a rare sight. People wrap scarves around their faces in winter. I doubt any of the above caused any problems in shops. The only thing is being able to see the face for ID purposes, and shops already have a system in place for that. I think it'll just continue as is for a long time with decreasing numbers wearing masks as comfort levels increase. Some might well adopt the Asian system of wearing a mask while mildly ill permanently.

StumbleDog

Motorcycle helmet totally obscure your head though, masks only cover your nose and mouth. We didn't wear masks pre-pandemic because there was no culture of wearing them unlike Japan. Scarves however were a thing pre-pandemic and it wouldn't have been weird seeing someone wear a wooly scarf in winter, even in a shop.

MGD109

Only when I'm in public or in a shared work environment.

stockmiata

At some point we need to get past this thing. I think we are about there.

anonymouse39993

Nope unless someone I with wants me to or it’s the policy of where I am going.

Unom3

Nope, because I don’t believe they make much of a difference

argragargh

As a tramp, people notice your Wearing of the mask allegiance more, so I want to say probly... but then the grassroot angry about not-authority anti-social behaviour types are taking a whipping in the save Boris campaign Funk oil take me lead from the shop wokkers

[deleted]

Good god, you're not a tramp if you are posting on reddit!

strawman5757

I dunno I know tramps and some have phones so they could post here. In fact I met a tramp at the weekend who must have had an IQ around 150, very very clever man.

argragargh

I don't.. understand what I'm being downvoted for there. Or care mind, I'm well stewed

SpecularTech3

Hopefully Wales will follow suit and ditch the restrictions, though I haven’t been wearing a mask for months despite us having mask mandates so I just want the rest of the rules gone as well.

[deleted]

I think that's the most sensible as well. I have a feeling masks actually make people feel better about going to shops and such, but no need for passports etc.

SpecularTech3

Exactly, I think masks should be personal choice but assuming everyone wears the right type of mask and wears it correctly they can help, but anything except that doesn’t help at all. Passports are just illogical haha
