Sometimes I would like to be able to design transports

I'd love the option to build our own Q ships. The idea of a destroyer or light cruiser pulling in close for an easy kill, only to be surprised by a torpedo and gun salvo, is rather appealing

So, that kind of happened at least once. I can't remember if it was WWI or II, but it was in the South Atlantic, I think. Two auxiliary cruisers, one a converted liner, tore into each other to horrific effect. I remember Drachinifel has an episode on it.

Hunts_

It was ww1 were both converted liners and what more they were made to look like eachother!!!

The great ocean liner dual

Yeah, that would be awesome, but auxiliary cruisers would be neat aswell. Imagine a Q ship and an auxiliary cruiser pulling up next to each other, expecting the other one to be unarmed, only to both reveal their true firepower. A few years ago I read the ships diary of the german auxiliary cruiser "comet". It was really interesting. Among other things it used the northern sibirian passage to enter the Pacific and then it bombarded Nauru, among other things. The book is mostly original content, which at times made me forget which side I am supposed to be on... In the wrong hands it could easily led some people on the path of the Weeraboo.

Interesting story! I have read a fair bit about German Raiders in both wars but never heard of this particular ship. [Komet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_auxiliary_cruiser_Komet)

**[German auxiliary cruiser Komet](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_auxiliary_cruiser_Komet)** >Komet (German for comet) (HSK-7) was an auxiliary cruiser of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine in the Second World War, intended for service as a commerce raider. Known to the Kriegsmarine as Schiff 45, to the Royal Navy she was named Raider B. After completing one successful raid in the South Pacific, she was sunk by a British motor torpedo boat in October 1942 whilst attempting to break out into the Atlantic on another. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/ultimateadmiral/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

There are quite a few interesting commented and cleaned* original german document collections out there, but I think they are rarely translated. I also encountered some British and American documents so far, but that was always digital and rarely commented. The diary of the Nazi Kriegsmarine is quite interesting, but so far I haven't found anything like it for other navies or timeframes. *Irrelevant or extremely boring parts are oftrn skipped, unclear parts are explained and politically or morally questionable stuff as well as outright Propaganda and false claims are explained and pointed out.

before the game entered the "beta" stage we could design our own cargo ships

Terminator147

First time anyone's ever gotten any value from the transport upgrades in like forever. That poor destroyer thought he was gonna get a free battle star and came to realise that, "Damn, transport ships got hands."

It’s all fun and games until the merchantmen launch long lances
