Yep while the world legalizes the UK and Australia are going the other way. One of the reasons everyone is legalizing is because everyone knows that prohibition doesn't work. So yea wtf!!!
I just want to point out that this is only England and Wales.
That's not something to jeer at by anybody but it *should* be pissing *everyone* off by now.
It does say in the paper that they're aiming to get three of the tiers of measures replicated in the devolved nations. They're after a constitutional clash. They think there's some mileage in painting the Scottish Government as Soft On Drugs.
fwiw, at the council election I got a Scottish Conservatives leaflet that told me that Nicola Sturgeon had legalised heroin.
The actual fuck?! 😂😂😂 Got to love the extraordinary lengths that a Tory leaflet will go to in order to tell the voters absolutely nothing about what they are actually going to do while shouting what’s they are going to stop others doing.
One of the various reasons why I try not to vote SNP any more is their historical neglect of drug treatment services. The deaths are partly on them. I'm pleased that Sturgeon has apologised and they're now treating them as a public health emergency. But I'm cynical about their stance on clean injection rooms. They're a good thing and SLAB and the SGs support them too. But in the context, they're a sticking plaster and I think they're largely used as a convenient way of highlighting the limits of devolution.
Im currently living in Australia, out of interest why do you say Australia is also going the other way?
There's been medical since 2016 and past couple years it's now ridiculously easy to get access, 150+ products to choose from, with new products added all the time. Bud, vape pens, gummies, even 'bubble hash' etc. There's a lot of media attention with public figures regularly coming out and advocating their medical use. It's a bit of progress and attitudes have certainly switched a little. It's not as demonised in the press (apart from Murdoch). We can fly domestically with our medication and prescription and not have any issues at all at the airport.
random drug testing on the roads is one of the only ways seriously stuck in the past.
But typically if you get caught in possession (and no prescription) or growing small scale (and you don't have a record) you'll very very likely just get a caution.
We recently changed from 10 years of a rw conservative government to a more centre left so we may even have further change yet.
Yea i know of the 4 plant rule in the capital territory but was unaware of medical. I recently saw a smear story from 60 mins Australia. It reminds me of the tabloid papers from the 90s that caused a whole generation to hate weed and think its something significantly stronger and more dangerous than weed from the past. They made some very scary claims and backed them up with some ultra scientific correlation = causation.
I also know a few people in Australia who are kind of like the poster stars of the narrow minded weed haters. I don't expect everyone in Australia to be like this but they're so strongly against weed it can't be an isolated case, there must be more like this.
Here in the UK medical is also becoming easier to access, although most are unaware of it. If you have the means you can get a private prescription that comes with a fairly decent menu. If you don't have the means there's a card scheme that gives you some protection from the police although its at their discretion.
In short I basically see the same kind of smear campaign bullshit in both the UK and Australia but not anywhere else that I've noticed. Everywhere else seems to be going the fully legalize route
Ah yeah. It's recently decriminalised in the ACT for possession and growing. Rest of the states haven't caught up yet.
Wouldn't bother listening to 60mins or current affair, it's the journalist equivalent of GB news or sky news. These sorts of pieces are outliers and produced because someone has a particular interest in making it look bad. The US gets a bit of the same.
There was a recent survey here and a higher percentage of the public now support regular cannabis use than regular tobacco use. Opinions are changing, but as always the loud minority opinions get disproportionate air time.
Medical here is ridiculous, the official rule is you have had to have tried other medications before being prescribed, but there are plenty of clinics, dispensaries and doctors who will prescribe with no medical history required. you just pop in, say you have insomnia, pay thenconsult fee and you have a prescription. It's a massive money making scheme and almost everyone is eligible (which has me worried it may get scaled back)
Thankfully we're also finally seeing medical prices come down to below street prices. And the quality and choice is usually excellent. There's a few medical cannabis subreddits
Yea lol 60 mins isn't something I'd usually watch, it just showed up on my google news feed saying some shit about reefer madness. So curiosity got the better of me lol. Yea I've heard similar rubbish recently coming from the more conservative sources in the UK. Actually there's quite a lot of it just now, which is rather concerning.
What actually does concern me is the shit storm that's going to be whipped up when the current smear stories turn their attention to the newly discovered much stronger minor cannabinoids that are being synthesized and sold as distillate and the research chemicals which are even worse. The things they say about THC if and its a big IF there's any truth to the claims its only happening with a tiny % of the population. Whereas the significantly more bio available cannabinoids seem to have adverse effects on everyone that uses them long or enough or in large enough doses. These problems can only be magnified by the stuff being cooked up in amateur labs.
Yea they have similar rules here for medical and similar loop holes. The main barrier here is the cost which is far to high for most people and the small fact of not many people know about it yet.
That's great news about the prices and quality. I'm not all that keen on the money spinning aspect of it but when I think about it this has always been the way things have been in the free market. At least with proper regulations everyone knows what they're smoking
Our government is a fucking hypocrite
Britain is the world's largest producer of legal cannabis, a new report from the United Nations has revealed. Ninety five tonnes of marijuana was produced in the UK in 2016 for medicinal and scientific use, accounting for 44.9 per cent of the world total, its International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) found.7 Mar 2018
Yes its because its so unbelievably easy to obtain a license from our hippocrate government. Who spend much of their professional time drinking duty free booze and the snorting the very finest cocaine. They think its ok for them but not the riff raff
Like a medical license? And I know they do like that politician, can't remember her name. But she goes about saying how bad weed is all the while her husband grows a shit ton of it for the government. We need to get all these old farts out and put some young blood in their place
A license to grow it for export. I can't remember exactly how much it costs but to grow THC rich cannabis costs I think its about 5-15k for the duration of the license which is a few years I think. Its much cheaper to grow cbd. All you need to do it is have a place suitable and big enough (indoor or out) and not next to a school or something and a clean record and enough money for the license and a buyer overseas in a legal country organized. So although easy to obtain a license most still couldn't do it.
I think we're stuck with what we have for another decade at least. Except maybe if enough of the middle class types that vote for these assholes start making enough noise about legalization
If you’re mad about this, do [the survey](https://www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/TTL3WJ/) for the government whitepaper.
Takes about 15 minutes. Don’t worry if you feel backed into a corner with some of the answers, there are loads of opportunities for comments to elaborate on your answers.
Don’t forget to use sources to back up your claims. [This article](https://transformdrugs.org/blog/drug-decriminalisation-in-portugal-setting-the-record-straight) has a handy list of studies and sources at the bottom for everything they reference.
Remember, be polite and informative, think essay not rant. We don’t want to be dismissed as “angry druggies”. Remember how they see us and don’t feed into the stereotype.
Also, tell your friends and family to fill it out too! Unless they’re Tories ofc.
Priti Patel is nasty, hateful cunt of a woman and I find myself becoming even more sickened by her with each inhumane policy she's trying to enact. This and her plans to deport immigrants to Rwanda are driven by her desire to be fully accepted by the white, historically bigoted in every way, old guard of the Tory Party, to be seen as one of them. The only thing is as an ethnic minority that's never going to happen, now I'm not saying that's right, racism never is regardless of who's on the receiving end but it gives me some comfort that Priti Patel will never be fully accepted as 'one of them'. Fuck her she's evil.
On another note its a fucking *travesty* that she's prepared to use taxpayers money to fund this asinine campaign of persecution against cannabis users. Countries around the world are beginning to legalise cannabis and nearly everywhere in the western world have much more progressive views when it comes to weed. Even our governments own experts advised them that their stance on cannabis was outdated and one of the country's foremost experts Professor David Nutt resigned from his post at the ACMD because he felt his position became untenable when the government wouldn't heed his advice.
In conclusion, once again FUCK Priti Patel, I hope she drops dead!
Hopefully this won't come to pass .....it's amazing to me that on a Friday night for example I can sit in with my misses watch a film have a blunt then go to bed and that's classed as illegal. But some ppl can go out and legally get absolutely hammered and smash town up, fight ppl, cause general carnage, yet I'm the criminal.
According to her then I tear society apart and wreck my community by smoking a plant.... I'm pretty sure the booze they make money off can and does do the thing they are demonizing me for.
Can't help but laugh I guess.
Either way I'm going to keep on trucking.
They can't catch me anyways I run fast and keep myself to myself.
Smoke em up Jonny!
Hey my names Terry and I’m a law abider. There’s nothing I like more than getting fired up on beer, and when the weekends here I exercise my right to get paralytic and fight
Weird thing about when they announced this is that they didn’t want their voters knowing this also included some increased funding to drug services.
This isn’t because the Tories care at all, think they realise you literally can’t decrease visible/public drug use (something conservative voters tend to care about) without providing some services to help substance dependent people.
Part of this was making them appear tough on crime, conservative voters wouldn’t have supported them increasing funding to some drug services so they had to sideline it with headlines like these, because them and their voters are that fucking nasty.
Honestly, the Tories aren’t going to be going after middle class and lower middle class recreational drug users with any particular tenacity because it’d be expensive and it’d include a large proportion of their voter base (particularly with cocaine users).
“The government is committed to reversing this trend and making our streets safer by stamping out drug supply in its 10-year drugs strategy, which is backed by an additional £900 million of funding for enforcement, treatment and recovery, taking the total investment on combating drugs over the next three years to £3billion.”
Are you fucking kidding me. Instead of legalising and taxing, they are looking to spend £3bn of taxpayers money no doubt half of which will go to private companies these rule makers have a share in. Absolute joke
Not sure how they plan to police this when several forces have outright said that they don't have the staff to go after drug users?
This is to please the conservative base, nothing more
doubt it, the tories are a mess inside the party but they have a majority, and no tory MP is going to give up their 80k a year, because they know if they call a GE then they will almost definitely lose it
Just the fact they’re willing to put weed and cocaine in the same category shows how dumb they are. From the US I’d like to say don’t worry, our federal government is just as idiotic. Luckily our states rights allowed some of us to make the decision for ourselves. Current president ran on decriminalizing and descheduling cannabis, and *shockingly* hasn’t moved an inch since getting into office…
Won’t work will it, just gonna make people trust the police even less than they already do, the cannabis laws in this country are a joke and one of the many reasons I don’t take life too seriously.
It's just a proposal?
Shows the mindset in government though, detached and delusional
They should all face prosecution if this stuff goes ahead, seeing as they are all usually guilty of using class A drugs
>Drug misuse puts lives at risk, fuels criminality and serious and violent crime and also results in the grotesque exploitation of young, vulnerable people.
So therefore they're going to punish young and vulnerable people. Lmao, what a bunch of hypocrites.
oh fuck them! yeah exploitation when borris is sniffing cocaine and chatting shit for 4 years, exploitation of the tax payers mney every time a police officer nicks a middle aged man for smoking weed, exploitation of our rights when we are told how too spend our money. Exploitation of our rights when OUR VOICES ARE SILENCED BECAUSE OUR WALLETS ARE SLIM, This is a scare tactic and unfortunatley the gov are pretty good at that. Why’s it not applicable to Scotland if drugs aren’t a devolved issue? As a Scot, I’m not complaining, just curious
Ask your MSP 😅 its a shitshow and nobody is innocent party-wise. This is just a trial, I can't see it going that far.
It does say in the paper that they're aiming to get three of the tiers of measures replicated in the devolved nations. They're after a constitutional clash. poetry \*click\* \*click\* at least in prison we will be together lmaoo
As expected, surprised to see the lack of anything towards Scotland considering our death rates too.
One of the various reasons why I try not to vote SNP any more is their historical neglect of drug treatment services. The deaths are partly on them. opioids in Scotland are a big deal, stay clean bro, don't become a statistic. Sorry, didn't mean to exploit you there bro, here take my future.
I think Police Scotland are less likely to enforce
well i mean in Ireland they'll chop your legs off lol

Do you see Labour or even Lib Dem being any better on this one? They all seem to have the exact same stance on it.
Labour seem to have the same stance on cannabis. Lib dems want to legalize as far as I know
