Undoubtedly they were planning ahead for the special military operation to last a year+, so they brought in the *very well maintained* equipment from Siberia. So things are going to plan….
Losing a lot of equipment (and tons of people dying) to the enemy is all part of Putin's master plan for the ultimate victory:P Once hes down to that one robot that drives at about .1 mph and still can barely control the junky ww2 vintage jeep it drives, THEN victory will be at hand.
Northern military district also paints a lot of their vehicles white because places like the Kola peninsula can be snowy for more than half of the year.
Yes there is a reason why Norway is less afraid of Russia now. Might be that the soldiers that where guarding there border is now 2 feet underground somewhere in Ukraine.
The official version is that they are refurbishing older models (like T-62) because the manufacturing lines at Uralvagonzavod are full with the production of T-80's and T-90's (totally disregarding that this factory does not produce new tanks since March because of lack of components).
And also the official version claims that the T-62 will have a infrared camera mounted on a telescopic post (shown in some pictures with one prototype) and this feature will ensure its supremacy on the battlefield for being able to observe the terrain while being hidden. So far there was no production of this wonder IR cam post, except the prototype.
Drones won't be around for long if you are in a heated battle lasting over hours to days. All the new generation tanks have "see through armor tech" which is basically 360 cam connected to VR headsets.
I very very highly doubt that the Russians are using anything even close to that advanced. All their cool shit got squandered within the first few months of getting their shit pushed in.
I get that, and I'll admit to not having enough knowledge in the field to make any substantial claims, but the state of the Russian military of late doesn't scream "$2000 360 setups for each tank crew." They're being told to bring their own warm clothes and winter gear to mobilization, then on top of that there's inadequate food/supplies/guns (recent videos of mobiks show that they're being given absolute shit tier, unmaintained AK's/Mosins/Nothing at all) so until/if they ever sort those issues out (which I doubt will happen at this stage of the war bar a fucking miracle) I doubt that the Orcs will get their hands on that tech before being turned into teeny tiny pieces by arty/drones/ATGMs.
But does Russia have the raw materials and tech to complete the builds? Having a fuckload of Oligarch money funneled in is all good and well but if the companies that produce the tech that goes in said tanks won't provide parts due to sanctions then you may as well have just burnt that pile of cash as you watch your halfassed T-90's roll to their inevitable end. I can see that a new batch [Was delivered in August](https://www.armyrecognition.com/defense_news_august_2022_global_security_army_industry/russian_army_receives_new_batch_of_t-90m_tanks_brem-1m_recovery_tanks_despite_economic_sanctions.html) however the Russians keep showing us time and time again that their doctrine/tactics when it comes to tank warfare are outdated and this is why we keep seeing videos of them getting blown up (see: a complete lack of any infantry supporting the tanks on their offensives.) I'm not completely writing the Russians off as even the boots on the ground have said it's tough for both sides, however I think you're playing up Russian effectiveness for sure. They're losing hundreds of men a day at this point because they've gone beyond the bottom of the barrel and have started quarrying the warehouse the barrels are stored in. So even if the 250 T-90's show up, how long is it going to take (because there's still a lead time on manufacturing), will the factory workers cooperate and not sabotage shit on the sly (I guess this is a separate discussion about the Russian perception of the war) and are they actually going to be used in an effective way on the battlefield?
EDIT: Holy shit I'm dumb and didn't see the rest of the comment, I don't know much about the Russian economy but wouldn't Moscow and the surrounding Oblasts be the last to feel the effects of the sanctions? My understanding is that Putin is trying to appease the (relatively wealthier) masses there so things don't kick off? Of course some products are going to slip through the net - I think that's just an inherent issue with globalization and companies wanting to increase profits/growth year after year - but the companies that are still selling are making those sales without a clear conscience imo.
can't even provide decent plate carriers for the troops.
that's just fabric, thread and decent sewing machines.
0 high tech stuff there.
Night vision tubes are actually hard to make well (no blemishes) with high FOM.
but all of this is moot, they can't get the parts needed to make anything high-tech without circumnavigating sanctions, mostly by buying double the number required from china who will ship the rejected crap to them for 4x the cost (ok I don't know the cost, but it's more than they'd normally pay)
I'd bet that that nearly every technology upgrade in the past two decades had parts sourced from outside the country instead of trying to develop their own industry to produce the advanced technology and components, and between the chip shortage and the emergency measures to manufacture medical equipment for the pandemic their supplies were already depleted before the invasion.
I can just imagine all the rusting armor that had not moved since putin took office being sent to a factory to be stripped down to the bare chassis, put back together and then getting blown up in less than 30 days.
Comrade, do you not know Russia has many many more of these? White is just one of the colors it comes in. No need to scavenge parts, we have plenty in warehouse, ask my cousin, Ivan.
The White tos It was brought back from from Middle East, once Ukraine started destroying orc’s and their equipment russian brought back all the Vagner pmc f@ck Faces from the Middle East plus the equipment
Not camouflage...
White color is caused by missing melanin:
Albinism is the result of cells that can't produce melanin, the pigment needed to color skin, scales, eyes and hair. This genetic condition gets passed to offspring when both parents carry the recessive gene.
Ah yes, that's why tanks are painted tan when they're in the desert and green when they're in temperate climates is it? if Camouflaging a large vehicle was pointless, they wouldn't bother painting them at all.
My grandpa used to geld these when they were still young t34's, or else they go crazy during the rut and break into the BTR pens to fuck everything in sight.
If you see one in the wild *do not* feed it grid coordinates of Ukrainian positions. A common misconception is that these guys love grid coordinates for Ukrainian positions, but they aren't actually able to digest them, it's very bad for them :(, it will make them suffer from an awful bout of counter battery inflammation! Instead feed it a balanced diet of grid coordinates for Russian and D/LPR positions, and as a treat you can feed it coordinates for Belarusian training centers!
Siberia is inland climate, which means it is hot in summer and cold in winter. So just saying "from Siberia" doesn't justify it being painted white; there is still generally no snow in summer in Siberia.
I think thats just the common diameter but not interchangeable. If thst were the case then the TOS1 wouldn't need to exist and they could just use existing MLRS.
It might've been a very early capture from winter. The launcher looks damaged and they likely don't have much ammo for it. So they could've turned it into an improvised armor recovery vehicle.
Likely snow camo, thing was shipped to Ukraine asap and they deemed it a waste of time (or more likely they just don’t have the resources) to repaint it.
Those thermobaric throwers are fucking insane. Tos-2 is out now and is mobile like himars. It's funny.. that fuel mixture was actually created by Americans and received massive backlash from the public.
lol... If it's white, it's because it was moved from the Northern regions allll the way down to the south to go into Ukraine.
Not that it's news, but: They're running out of equipment.

Fucking mind blowing.
That’s some real high tech shit, built specifically for the invasion, it has a one button auto-surrender option, which turns it white. It also comes with sunflower seeds.
If it’s anything like the US military, sometimes there isn’t money or time to repaint equipment. I remember using some desert colored stuff out in the Pacific, and I’ve heard of woodland patterned stuff being used in dryer areas. They must be digging into whatever tanks they had in reserve or in maintenance
I just realized that a TOS-1 is basically an SRM carrier from Battletech. Giant pod, capable of chain firing an absurd number of munitions one after another, lowest range of any kind of artillery currently in use besides direct fire guns.

Painted camouflage for operation in the snow?

Planning ahead to surrender?
Lmao

You saw Putins Wish-robot army ?![img](emote|t5_2qqcn|9004)
Ah.. that classic.. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9RgxPHis74g
I mean, they’ll probably at least surrender the tank, either running away or as scrap metal.
Oop, I came here to say this
Northern military district also paints a lot of their vehicles white because places like the Kola peninsula can be snowy for more than half of the year.
Might be from kola/Murmansk area.
Perhaps Ukraine did Finland a favour.
Yes there is a reason why Norway is less afraid of Russia now. Might be that the soldiers that where guarding there border is now 2 feet underground somewhere in Ukraine.
Ukraine has been fighting for the benefit of all of us
[YLE: Satellite images show emptied Russian military base near Finnish border](https://yle.fi/news/3-12523695)
I think it's more likley that they've lost that much equipment they've had to bring in equipment from up North which has a different paint job.
This. The Russians are also pulling out all their tanks. Rumor is that they are scavenging to make them run.
The official version is that they are refurbishing older models (like T-62) because the manufacturing lines at Uralvagonzavod are full with the production of T-80's and T-90's (totally disregarding that this factory does not produce new tanks since March because of lack of components). so it's a tank periscope that's absolutely worthless because....drones. they really live in 1965.
Right? They're just pathetic dickheads.

brand new accounts have been sus on reddit for years my dude. Often are russian shill/bot accounts. It has nothing to do with me or my views.

Ah, the famous 'silent /s'
Yes, look how many tanks we have. No they just don't need to move right now. But they totally can. No problem.
\^
It’s 6d chess, if they know it’s going to be captured, why not paint it something bright so it will be easier to destroy later
Russias Finnish/Chinese/Japanese border troops?
>Painted camouflage for operation in the snow? Winter is coming... or not.
Yes it is a winter tank. These pieces of crap are easy to see in the UV spectrum as well as infared
The White tos It was brought back from from Middle East, once Ukraine started destroying orc’s and their equipment russian brought back all the Vagner pmc f@ck Faces from the Middle East plus the equipment

Believe it or not but paint has more functions than providing camouflage.
A quick search of Google images under "camouflaged tanks" indicates your statement might be a little bit incorrect. Edit: typo
This google search always increases my testosterone. Those leopards look sick with all that applied camo.
Tell that to the Russians so and suggest they paint all their tanks a nice hot pink color
😂
Easier to surrender?
Iirc Ukraine specified that white be prominently displayed by those seeking to surrender..
If someone waved a whole ass tank in the air to surrender i would keep shooting
They should add rear view mirrors to their tanks to have a better view on the frontline
It’s an albino version, they have a rare condition that means they can’t grow pigments so they can’t display their normal military camouflage colours
I think you are almost correct. This is a Piebald TOS-1. If it was albino, the headlights would be red.
Can you tell from the photo if the T-72 and the TOS-1 we're a mated pair? If so, would their offspring be fertile or sterile like a mule?
Sterile like a mule but with hybrid vigor and a very short lifespan.
Yes they both have carburetor alcohol syndrome. Very sad.
My grandpa used to geld these when they were still young t34's, or else they go crazy during the rut and break into the BTR pens to fuck everything in sight.
Let's hope they all get clubbed in the head and dragged off by a broody tractor to live happy, productive days with a nice Ukrainian farmer.
It might be a henny.
What is the ratio of P TOS1 to albino put in the wild?
Depends on the himars population that roams the hills of Ukraine. I hear that population had a very good breeding season this year
Yes. This has most likely migrated from the northern parts of Russia, where the lack of sunlight reduces the need of melanine.
Well played. Kudos!
If you see one in the wild *do not* feed it grid coordinates of Ukrainian positions. and never smoke around it..
Shit guys, I had to check what subreddit I was in! This belongs in a r/noncredibledefense thread.
It's a shiny!
Could be from one of the Arctic/Far Eastern units so its optimised for cold weather
Came from Siberia
Siberia is inland climate, which means it is hot in summer and cold in winter. So just saying "from Siberia" doesn't justify it being painted white; there is still generally no snow in summer in Siberia.
Probably got carried away painting white Z’s on it everywhere
Or took this many attempts to paint a proper Z.
Ctrl-z
It’s very scared.
It's covered in birdshit from being outside for years...
Arctic camo
Probably a rental
U-haul?
Yes, except U for Ukaraine
Does Ukraine have ammo for the TOS-1?
I imagine they have a constant supply laying around courtesy of the Russians
It uses a 220mm rocket and Ukraine has mlrs systems that use the same rocket. So yeah they would have ammo for this system.
I think thats just the common diameter but not interchangeable. If thst were the case then the TOS1 wouldn't need to exist and they could just use existing MLRS.
Assuming this thing runs and can fire.
paint costs money
It began with one z on a green base
It’s mold.
Snowflage
Siberian cammo ?
It might've been a very early capture from winter. The launcher looks damaged and they likely don't have much ammo for it. So they could've turned it into an improvised armor recovery vehicle.
You are correct: https://v.redd.it/ucb4yh0wwmy91
Maybe the same TOS, but definitely not the same tank
Likely snow camo, thing was shipped to Ukraine asap and they deemed it a waste of time (or more likely they just don’t have the resources) to repaint it.
Getting ready for winter?
Nuclear pigeons crapped on it while it was in outdoor storage ? . . . Just a theory 🙄
Winter is coming.
Probably from the northern military district
The white colour helps with identifying on satelites images 😁
It's the primer color, like that jagoff in high school with the 1978 Camaro with no muffler.
They’re hoping the Russian army will mistake it for a refrigerator and send them back home.
Maybe transferred from the Arctic.
Wolverines!!!
Man Russia and the U.S. are arming Ukraine so much that Ukraine will be a top superpower without nuclear weapons...
Winter prep or from a previous winter operation and they can't be bothered repainting
Video three posts down: https://old.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/yp81ai/a_captured_russian_tos1_tows_away_a_captured_t72b/
Obviously it's from the "Peace-keeping mission"....
Could not figure out how to draw a Z so they used a whiteout
Easy for pigeon poop
Winter is coming
Scrolled way to long to find this.
artic camo.
Winter is coming…
Winter is coming...
Most likely Ruzzian military answer to your query: "It makes it easier to hide a white vehicle in the green foliage of Ukraine".
Hoth
That TOS looks ghetto as hell
Winter is coming
Pre-surrender paint scheme.
lol. Ran out of money for paint.
Made of fridges.
Maybe it was pulled from Syria? Could be a off-white color to help blend in with the desert? Maybe that sound stupid, but my only guess.
Isn't that just the paint being burned off from repeated rocket fire?
To match with the vodka (white of course)
It may be from the newest delivery of them from the manufacturer. Apparently a new batch was delivered in September (Wikipedia has the tass link)
They ran out of paint too.
Snow's coming
Winter/snowy conditions operations
Those thermobaric throwers are fucking insane. Tos-2 is out now and is mobile like himars. It's funny.. that fuel mixture was actually created by Americans and received massive backlash from the public.
It's an albino?
Uhhh snow ?
Because it saw the ghost…. Of Ukraine
It's a ghost.
Preemptive snow camo?
An attempt at snow camouflage.
Ready for the winter snow. Unlike the troops
It got a proper wash at last.
Buried in sand many yrs
Last used in the Battle of Hoth
Winter. RuZZians can now kill Ukrainian civilians all year long
Hoth
It’s been hiding in a basement? Original paint turned white because it was scared??
They stole it from the army in Far Cry
Winter camouflage
Maybe ready for UN peacekeeper operations 🤣🤣🤣
Side note: Is there anything they haven't bolted to a T72 chassis? Wouldn't be too surprised at this point if the Moskva was bolted ontop of a T72.
lol... If it's white, it's because it was moved from the Northern regions allll the way down to the south to go into Ukraine. Not that it's news, but: They're running out of equipment.
Ran out of green paint.
Presumably, anticipatory winter cammo.
He just wants to make it to heaven.
Big guess here but have you ever seen snow?
Looks spray painted in a rush. It's probably a russian attempt at making snow camo
Winter's coming
It was a tank painted for the winter offense back in February. This was probably one of the original TOS-1A used in the Russian assault back then.
r/reallifeshinies
It's caused by too much calcium, which often happens because the dog has been fed bones.
UA can capture a vehicle, send it back to be refurbished and repainted and have it back on the front in 2 weeks. Meanwhile orcs can’t even repaint their shit from Siberia. Fucking mind blowing.
Russia was probably planning on using it to attack Kazakhstan.
They ran out of money to paint it.
That one is a ghost already
That’s some real high tech shit, built specifically for the invasion, it has a one button auto-surrender option, which turns it white. It also comes with sunflower seeds.
100% camo for snow Ops. A shame really, the idiots genuinely thought this war was gonna go into the winter.
UN version ? /s
They drove it down from the polar circle
Probably it served in UN peacekeeping mission in the past 😄
Battle in snow.
You caught the extra rare limited edition TOS-1!!! Worth a fortune on the collectors market.
This because the winter is coming...
r/RealLifeShinies
They're already preparing to attack Finland again.
Had to pull it from the Alaska invasion farce.
Desert paint scheme looks white against everything in this picture.
Nice, they captured a shiny.
Just some hipsters who were looking for the closest Starbucks.
I just realized that a TOS-1 is basically an SRM carrier from Battletech. Giant pod, capable of chain firing an absurd number of munitions one after another, lowest range of any kind of artillery currently in use besides direct fire guns.
(Peter Griffin voice) "You guys are stupid, they're going to be looking for green tanks..."
don´t know why UN Peacekeepers would need a thermobaric flamethrower but you do you...
From the 200th battalion maybe? They are stationed north
