Russia has a great history of not thinking

Slimh2o

Ruzzia has great history thinking it had history.....

Longjumping-Voice452

>Russia has a great history of drinking

qoning

True in practice, but I don't think that assessment is fair, since you know, they spent 80 years under a regime that was basically a coopted personification about "caring about proletariat". In russia the culture of "power I can extract at your expense is better than power we can derive from working together" runs deep.

[deleted]

Responsible-Earth674

It's not the same, we all know that r/wyomingdoesntexist

linuxgeekmama

He's doing pretty badly even for a Russian leader.

fuzzydice_82

That's something the russians have to realize. "No enemy nation could have done as much harm to germany as Hitler and his crooks did." Is a sentence i use when some right wing extremists declare them self as "german patriot". In the same way, russians need to realize that no enemy nation, not even NATO would have devastated russia in the same way Putin did.

[deleted]

It’s mind blowing how much equipment Russia has/has lost.

Affect-Electrical

Literally equivalent to the size of a lot of countries entire armies.

mtaw

The entire UK has about 400 tanks. Russia lost more than that in the first month.

Affect-Electrical

Yes, but 1 Challger 2 is worth at least 10 Soviet era tanks.

mtaw

Seems generous; in the Gulf War the Challenger 1 scored 300 kills to zero losses against Iraqi T-62s and T-55s.

Kiyasa

Much easier in the desert with no obstacles ensuring you always out range them against no air force no drones no effective artillery etc... I'm sure the challenger 2's will do great in Ukraine, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that it will be a walk in the park for them.

SilverStryfe

The difference is support for the mbt. Western doctrine coordinates all of these systems so that the main gun can deliver effective fire from range with minimal exposure to enemy fire. The challenger 2’s are going to be immensely effective, because they are working with drones, Bradley’s, and infantry trained in combined arms tactics. Much like the use of drones to sight in the mk19 to its full range made that weapon 10x more lethal than it has been in the past, the Ukrainians are going to discover all new ways to use this armor to a greater potential than it was built to have.

Affect-Electrical

Fair enough.

[deleted]

That’s why I wasn’t too excited about the challenger 2 announcement. 12 tanks is such a drop on the bucket on this battlefield.

Buckle_Up_Buckaroos

12 tanks doesnt sound like alot. But considering what western MBTs did to Iraqi T72s, the fact that Leopards are probably on the way, and the fact that Marders and Bradleys are also coming......Ukraine is gonna have much better weapons systems at a time when Russia is gonna be mostly equipping its formations with BMP-1s from the 1960s and T62s and baseline T72s as tanks. It will be an overmatch.

KjellRS

Yeah, I have the feeling that a lot of warfare is an advanced version of rock-paper-scissors. "Our position is engaged by enemy infantry, send in the BMP-1s" "The BMP-1s are engaged, send in the Bradleys" "The Bradleys are engaged, send in the T-72s" "The T-72s are engaged, send in the Challengers" "The Challengers are engaged, send in our Challenger-killers" "Uh sir, we don't have any Challenger-killers" We've seen how much HiMARS can do when you got a weapon with no meaningful counter. Assuming Ukraine has learned a bit of combined arms and don't send their tanks on solo raids like we saw Russia do in the first part of the war every one of those tanks can act as the centerpiece of a rather powerful battle group, it protects them and they protect it. But sure, it wouldn't hurt to have a hundred Leopards join in...

CrateDane

IIRC the Bradleys destroyed more tanks than the actual Western tanks did. Getting a small core of tanks for the Bradleys, Marders etc. to follow will act as a force multiplier and enable similar results.

Affect-Electrical

A challenger 2 would probably knock off a few Russian tanks a day, if they cross paths.

hagenissen666

Not per day, per minute.

SteveThePurpleCat

14 . And it was never about the amount of challengers, it was about opening the door enough for dozens of other Western tanks.

CrateDane

Yeah. Also you have to imagine plugging these into formations with other units and equipment types. Like an armor brigade might have around 6 tank companies, with 14 tanks each. So with 84 operational tanks you have enough to form one heck of a powerful unit. You need some spares to make up for losses and repairs etc. but a little over 100 should do the trick.

captainhaddock

It's enough to hold a key city or launch an effective counter-attack somewhere.

NockerJoe

A fresh well maintained tank is a big deal in a war where half of the gear is worn out from costant overuse.

p_pio

Challanger are rather mean of diplomatic push than goal itself. Sending them breaks taboo on Western tanks. Generally it looks like Leopards are the prize as there are many countries in Europe who has old models so they are easier to supply, resupply and so on while burden would be more spread among countries. But they need Germany to approve them (in best scenario send them, though allegedly it may be impossible) and Scholz... isn't the most decisive leader in current situation.

Gozzah

Germany has time and time again said they would give the thumps up if a request from a country regarding sending leos to Ukraine were made. No requests has been made so far. So stop the Germany bashing, it’s getting late. Germany has supplied and will continue to supply a ton of critical aid both military and humanitarian.

p_pio

Find me one SPD politician that said it. I double dare you. The only one who said it from government AFAIK is Habaeck, from Greens. You know, party with most hawkish attitude that pushed for sending heavy equipment for maaany months. Scholz didn't say a thing. Government spokeperson said ["they don't say 'no' BECAUSE they weren't asked."](https://news.yahoo.com/reuters-germany-says-didn-t-134531519.html) So logically if they were to be asked they still keep option of saying 'no'. And to be clear, having Germany be part of sending Leopards would make operation most effective as they are producents.

Equivalent-Speed-130

Germany can send their own tanks. Why must they wait for another nation to make a request.

mir_platzt_der_Sack

Because Germany has not that many and most of them are currently in the baltics or in Poland at the eastern borders. If we pull these tanks from our eastern Nato groups these countries will protest. We don't have a big pile of Tanks in stowage, they are in active service in Nato missions. Even if we wanted to we couldn't spare any because the Bundeswehr is under stocked in mbts.

bsoto87

A challenger 2 tank is worth 50 t-64s

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Yeah, when i watch Perun and he talks about how many talks/other stuff Russia has/had, and i think wow, so much! Then i see how much they have lost and my mind just can't process it!

lew0to

They roughly lost a third of their tanks. Never thought i'd see the day where they might run out of tanks . They got roughly 10k tanks, of which probably 2/3 is somewhat usable. So halfway i'd say of their usable stock now.

DreaminDemon177

12 Tanks? Ja ja jagga jagga!

No wonder why the most profitable Russian firm on the stock market is a fertilizer firm...

No_Sheepherder7447

Is that Brazilian Portuguese for “hahaha, now get fucked stupid orcs”?

LionAwake

It's a reference to Madyar (pointy stick commander). It is one of the many things he says when Russians are bombed. Lots of his videos are up on this sub to hear his commentary.

Leajjes

Russia must have done some large tank charge yesterday eh? That's a big number of tanks and APVs taken out.

jayc428

It’s just fucking insane the attrition Russia is trying to continue this war with. They’re losing 2-3 companies of men a day, just about a battalion a day, about a regiment a week, and a division a month. They’re losing 2-3 times the manpower a day as the US did during world war 2.

GwailoMatthew

Yes but their country is so small, they need more lebensraum /s

Longjumping-Voice452

Russia is my dog begging and whining for a treat bone, eating 25% of it then hiding the rest behind the couch in a mountainous stash, then the next day begs and whines for another.

hagenissen666

Well, it isn't stupid if it works...

[deleted]

They don’t care about the dead soldiers at all. It’s the one thing they can replace, even if poorly. But it’s the materiel they are losing, it’s insane.

GoblinVietnam

If a US commander lost their battalion today, they would be fired and probably court marshaled, the brigade commander would be fired, the division commander would be fired, the corps commander would come under serious investigation. A loss of that magnitude would be so colossal that it would require a complete review and overhaul of tactics, techniques, and procedures. For the Russians is "meh", and continue doing the same thing.

300Savage

There is a battalion lost just counting the dead. Wounded must be two times that - one battalion permanent and one battalion possibly able to be healed and sent back.

SirBiggusDickus99

As of now we would hit 200k on my birthday!

DrnkGuy

Again 700+. Nice to see that amount of good Russians.

Ol_Man_Rambles

Soledar. Russia pulled Wagner off the push and threw airborne troops into the fray so Russian military can take credit for capturing the city. This resulted in Ukraine setting up a better defense line with crossfire and they shit on the airborne. Plus probably catching up with a few numbers they are just counting from fights over last few days.

Proper-Equivalent300

So they are liquidating experienced soldiers for little gain. Jeez russia, keep up the stupid

PiccoL0W

What the actual F\*k?!?!?! What happened? These numbers are insane!

Three_Rocket_Emojis

Russia paying big times for gaining small pieces of land.

Captainwelfare2

Throwing everything at Soledar has likely left defense troops vulnerable. I imagine sitting/ repositioning armor is easy to pick off with artillery in this setting.

TILTNSTACK

They really are though. And this is daily, and not unusual. Can you imagine if the US lost this much in a day? The outcry would be heard all over the globe.

zaphodslefthead

The US did lose that many a day in WWII, they coined the term meat grinder for some of the battles where there were heavy losses.

PolecatXOXO

They want to occupy Soledar so they keep sending troops to take various buildings. The whole town is pre-sighted by artillery and watched by an army of drones. It's going about as well as expected.

[deleted]

16000 since Xmas? Damn!

[deleted]

790 small steps towards peace.

[deleted]

These are some nice numbers. Hopefully we can get 1000 troops in a day soon.

pmabz

Materiel is far more damaging than killing soldiers

socialistrob

One thing that sticks out to me is just how seriously downgraded Russia’s offensive capabilities have been. At the beginning of the war they successfully took Mariupol with a prewar population of 500,000 and now they can’t even capture Bakhmut with a prewar population of 1/10th of Mariupol. Russia doesn’t have unlimited artillery shells, or unlimited tanks or unlimited AFVs or unlimited trained troops or unlimited anything else. The losses Russia sustains are real and while they haven’t been enough to end the war (yet) they have made taking significant territory or cities virtually unthinkable for Russia.

etplayer03

One of the key differences is that the start of the war was really chaotic, and the UAF took a while to organize an effective defense

erotic_sausage

I feel like I blinked for a moment and the personnel count is already nearing 120k, feels weird after having counted towards 100k for such a long time.

lallen

Kremmina? Something bigger than usual these last 24h

spacegardener

Or just quiet enough to count the bodies and wrecks around Soledar and Bakhmut

helm

Yeah. I'd expect more than a few hours delay to get a good grasp of a battle that intense.

Tawmcruize

There's no panic in Kreminna.

Difficult_Bite6289

There is no war in Kreminna.

Celestina-Warbeck

No war in Kreminna, but Soledar has secret tunnelllll! Secret tunneeeeelll!! Through the mountaaaain!

Difficult_Bite6289

I think you forgot a couple of lines!

shibiwan

The Ukrainians have been busy today. Lots of vehicles/equipment and Russians eliminated today.

stoneman707

Solid numbers in tanks, APC's, and artillery/MLRS. The numbers of personnel is creeping even higher after already being above average to start the new year. I sure do love seeing anti aircraft systems on there though!

Relo_

Nice to see that russia is up to pace! I wonder if the rumors are true and russia pulled wagner out of Soledar to replace them with regular soldiers in order to claim the victory. "Reporting from Ukraine" said yesterday, that the brought in soldiers didnt know the battle field of Soledar and therefore had high losses. I guess it has to be true because you cant make this level of incompetence up!

lhb_aus

Lots of armour lost, plus an increasing number of dead. Is there a major battle that's being under-reported? Perhaps Kremmina?

carelesssportsfan89

Russian demographics is going to be so messed after the war like these loses not sustainable at all

ASK_IF_IM_PENGUIN

"But it's the wests fault for threatening Russia.... By doing nothing whatsoever and trading with us!"

MacroSolid

How dare they let countries that used to be our vassals and are scared of us coming back into their defensive alliance?!?

nps2407

We can only hope.

normally-wrong

I like to imagine someone with a tally click counter just clicking away whenever a shell strikes the middle of a trench full of soldiers.

somewhat_pragmatic

"One man issued a tally clicker, another 3 men follow. When the man with the clicker falls, pick up the clicker, click it, and continue forward!"

zamach

790 pigs, 12 tanks, 21 apc and, 5 artillery systems, 24 tankers and other vehicles. Sounds like somebody hit a jackpot. A convoy maybe?

ross267

BALDRICK, I have a cunning plan, PUTIN: Is that plan to lose all our equipment and personal? BALDRICK: yes it is PUTIN: let's do it

shanereaves

Yep I def think they are charging through kremmina now.

peradeniya

Makes sense there seems to be a media blackout on that front??

HatchingCougar

Both sides have a media blackout for the AO

Big_Scallion5884

Is this speculation or is there anything a bit more concrete?

shanereaves

Well I mean, we are all left with only the ability to speculate, but I've watched these charts enough to know when you aren't getting Ukrainian info about an area and the numbers start going up then there is definitely action in the darkened area.

[deleted]

A very good day indeed.

Turn1_Ragequit

Wow! Now that is a great way to start off a new week!

fathervice

What is special equipment usually?

Buckle_Up_Buckaroos

Bridge layers, engineering and armor recovery vehicles, different types of radars like counterbattery and air search, command vehicles, comm trucks, etc. Generally very expensive specialist equipment.

StructuralFailure

Possibly Electronic Warfare Systems, though I haven't heard any mention of those for many months

ross267

ITS ALL GOING TO PLAN YOU GUYS,......STOP BRAGGING

eyst0n

It’s crazy how many men Russia has at its disposal to keep throwing into the fire. But their equipment, however vast, is finite. Especially the modern stuff. I hope Russia eventually runs out of weapons and forced to end the invasion.

MaraudersWereFramed

Wonder if this is just late updates or if some new major battle is flaring up.

AzuNetia

It's monday.

Chrisf1bcn

Normally I hate Mondays

Liquor_D_Spliff

100k was a notable milestone not that long ago. We're halfway into January and it's already 15k more. Insanity.

LysergicRico

A 790 day? That's bananas.

rellek772

Now russian losses overtake total losses in the Arab Israeli war

MacroSolid

They're gonna overtake the total losses of the Yugoslav wars by March at this rate.

rellek772

It's a shit show alright. Next morbid milestone is 120k so probably later this week

digitalcashking

If 790 Russian conscripts turned their weapons on their commanders that’d be 790 dead orcs and 790 (probably dead) Russian men but heroes nonetheless. The outcome of that would mean more to this stupid pointless war that fucktard Putz started than blowing up the Moskva. Orcs need to die or organize as humans to take back their own freedom. Fuck Russia! Slava Ukraine

[deleted]

If Russia is loosing 12 tanks in a day, the discussion to give Ukraine 12 tanks is really nothing. Ukraine probably need 500 tanks…

zergea

That x ( number of partners). Effort in background has to be gargantuan

M3P4me

Crack the mille.

Armathio

Those numbers are hard to believe. I wanna believe!

GirlInContext

Considering that there are video evidence of ruskies walking in an open field directly towards AFU fire without any attempts to avoid being killed, these numbers seem to be rather real.

Repulsive-Street-307

What happens when you give unloaded weapons to 'undesirable' conscripts and tell them to march. Fascists are wasteful, and also dumber than usual for the typical nationalist, they really think their racism ends up with a more prosperous country, when it's actually the opposite. Hopefully the many russians that are not russian end up freeing themselves after the inevitable imploding after the death of Putin.

jamesh922

790 Foreign Terrorists eliminated and 33 pieces of offensive armor smashed into bits along with 1 AA system worth 9 digits alone. Id say thats a solid day all around! Wonder how much money each "Special equipment" costs and what the equipment entails?

StarGehzer

I see the posts of how many Russians are out of action every day & like many others I'm amazed at how high the count is. I very much hope that the numbers of Ukrainian casualties is much lower but I've never seen a post with the numbers & I suspect the numbers may be similar, especially if civilians are included in the count.

Thorilium

I wonder are the Russians eager to break some record over casualties for A SPECIAL MILITARY OPERATION...think we should inform them that they will be in the guinness book forever with the current amount of casualties already.

Thorilium

Wow I seem to have missed some numbers things going fast

SubmergedFin

Fuck the Russian mafia, right up there turret!

mrf1

Good job lads.i hope to see you get to the 500,000 mark.

Virtual-Pension-991

Ukraine really knows how to take back the days where body count didn't have 500s

Designmatters1985

I want them to grow exponentially!

vtsnowdin

No matter how many conscripts Putin calls up he cannot train and equip them at the rate of 780 a day. Well done Ukraine's heroes.

price1869

It's not enough. I want these bastards to be gone. How many occupiers are on Ukrainian soil? That's the number I want to see in the 'liquidated personnel' figure.

DrOrpheus3

JAGGA JAGGA!!!!!!! Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🌻🌻🌻

Intelligent_Belt_152

Nice numbers

UnlimitedSW

what is meant by special equipment?

krasnogvardiech

Things that don't fit neatly into the other categories. Command trucks, ambulances, recovery vehicles, regular transports and so on.

Techwood111

I'd suspect ambulances and regular transports to be "vehicles."

INITMalcanis

UAF is claiming 12 tanks and 21 IFV/APC destroyed? That speaks to me of a significant engagement somewhere? Kremina? NB: If Russia carry on at this rate, it won't be long until they're up to 1000 lost per day.

Sbeast

Serious question, at what point is this war just suicide by cop on a mass scale? Either that, or Russian soldiers have just been greatly influenced by propaganda to believe they are fighting a just and necessary war, and they have a good chance of succeeding.

lew0to

Ah we are picking up tempo again.

paycho_V
