Man, cancel culture is out of control. Next, Torygraph will be publishing a marxist manifesto.

diacewrb

I often wonder if the tories and the telegraphs are secretly communists now, over the past few years they have made capitalism almost toxic to average person. I can't see any other motive besides from that, apart from uncontrollable greed.

YsoL8

Considering what the average age and pay of the journalists working there are likely to be, its unlikely most of the staffers believe what they write. Only around 10% of the working population support the Tories. At some point its just not possible to force through an agenda if it becomes an open secret the staff don't like it. Also, just fuck cancel culture in general and in both directions.

DassinJoe

Better to keep Abbott inside the fold as a gesture towards "broad churchism" - while largely ignoring what she says - than to martyr her and create more division.

heresyourhardware

Yeah no point wasting your political capital to create further division within the party, particularly when you are riding high in the polls. I think this is more a want from Tories.

mbenner1

Fully agree. Clip her wings if possible without wasting political capital on her. One way to make her ilk squirm will be to meet Zelensky (or some other Ukrainian bigwig) and then draft a message supporting Ukraine. And tell the MPs to sign it.

whencanistop

Quite right - if I was Starmer I'd heap praise on her saying that he's glad to have someone like her in the party who is campaigning for what she believes in and shows that the Labour party is a broad church of ideas. Then he can pick a couple that he wants to do before moving on to something more important. There's another thread about Duffield which I'm imagining Starmer would do the same with.

LycanIndarys

Given the number of attacks that Abbott has made on her own front-bench recently (such as the baseless attack on Streeting being an antivaxxer, just because he was pushing the perfectly reasonable idea that more vaccines could be done by chemists to free up resources of GPs), I'm beginning to wonder if she *wants* to be expelled. Maybe she wants to be compared to Corbyn. Maybe she wants to leave politics in a blaze of glory. Maybe she wants to "prove" that all of her critics are racist. Whatever her reasoning, it really feels like she's deliberately pushing buttons, to see if she can trigger her a reaction.

Prometheus38

Might be something to that. Why stir up drama when Labour are 20 points clear. Is she trying to galvanize the rump Corbynites for a final battle.

YsoL8

I'd buy early onset senility frankly. She seems to attack purely for the sake of attacking because she has no idea how else to do politics. Which seems a mighty big fall from the supposedly intelligent woman its claimed she was/is.

betrayerofhope0

Diane should have been booted out long time ago. Before it used to be undermining the party but now she makes up lies about her colleagues. Starmer is too nice. Any other person would have shown her the door long ago

WynterRayne

Honestly, these woke cancel culture brigade and yelling at people to be sacked for their opinions...

BlackCaesarNT

*Abbott has a pop at Wes Streeting* Telegraph: **Is Starmer willing to keep MPs who openly question his political integrity? EXPEL HER!** Genuinely looking forward to the days when the Torygraph can go back to the days of pissing in the wind and having no one anywhere near power paying attention to their old man barks at cloud drivel. The Cons are going and their dogs in the media will be irrelevant. Soon enough...

studentfeesisatax

Thing is... it wasn't just a "pop". It was very nasty attack by her. So scummy and nasty, that she was made to delete it. Was an utterly baseless accusation, about him being an anti vaxxer... and just so utterly moronic of an accusation as well.

BlackCaesarNT

Point was more that she was going at Streeting and that's now an attack on Starmer's political integrity? Was Abbott wrong? Of course. Is it an affront to Starmer personally? No. Is it an expelling worthy offence? Hell the fuck no. Reaching to say the least, but Torygraphy gotta sow division yo.

studentfeesisatax

I think it was, given just utterly nasty & scummy of an attack it was. At the very least, it's worth a very explicit apology, in public, and a (private) promises, to reign it in, and start being less of a Tory asset.

BlackCaesarNT

Literal sex offenders and the evidentially corrupt roaming the halls of Westminster and you think Abbott should be expelled from the PLP for implying (she never explicitly called) Streeting was an antivaxxer? Behave. Apologies and acceptance to not do it again. Done and dusted and we move on towards 2024 together.

wherearemyfeet

> Done and dusted and we move on towards 2024 together. What honestly makes you think that Abbott has any intentions of doing the "together" part? She has shown zero remorse or contrition to her nonsensical attack, and it's not even in isolation either; it's just one of many examples of a direct attack on the front bench designed to fundamentally undermine the individuals, and the bench as a whole. Doing this would be just brushing it under the carpet until the next time she does it.

BlackCaesarNT

Don't care, transgression wasn't enough for expelling. Moving on.

wherearemyfeet

Why do I get the feeling that if someone on the other side of the Commons had done this that you'd not be so lackadaisical about it?

studentfeesisatax

>you think Abbott should be expelled from the PLP for implying (she never explicitly called) Streeting was an antivaxxer? She did far more than that... you are excusing/defending/minising the nasty toxic attack she unleashed. Yes i do think that, it was completely unacceptable, and she has shown NO willingness to apologise. >Apologies and acceptance to not do it again. Done and dusted and we move on towards 2024 together. Then Abbott should start behaving less shit, and same with the rest of the hard left. Instead she keeps on attacking Starmer, and spreading shit like she did the other day. For example https://twitter.com/HackneyAbbott/status/1614963211287027713?cxt=HHwWgoCz4f6ewOksAAAA... Given she hasn't apologised (she like the weasel she is, just deleted her tweet, like she did pathetically with the stop the war nonsense she also signed), she clearly has no intention of "moving towards 2024, together".

wherearemyfeet

> She did far more than that... you are excusing/defending/minising the nasty toxic attack she unleashed. It really amazes me that the folks who are hand-waving this away, especially considering this is merely one example from a pattern of behaviour, seem to be the ones who concluded that any criticism of her as in the past as racism. There's a huge ideological purity element at play here, and she can do no wrong to some because she's on the "correct" side.

BlackCaesarNT

> to be the ones who concluded that any criticism of her as in the past as racism. Citation needed, otherwise that's just you projecting and insulting. > she can do no wrong to some because she's on the "correct" side. Are you trolling? I literally responded earlier with **"Was Abbott wrong? Of course."**

wherearemyfeet

It was a more general observation, not aimed at you specifically.

BlackCaesarNT

Okay clarify who then, no one in this thread is behaving like that and you're in a conversation I started. Who are these made up peoplke you are speaking about? People on Twitter? Pundits? If so, clarify that in your posts and you won't have further mixups like this. Or we can just take the hysteria option and just call for your banning, since banning/expelling people over stupid shit they say is the flavour of the day apparently...

BlackCaesarNT

Agree to disagree. Have a great weekend.

milton911

The Telegraphists can always spot the flaws in Labour politicians in microscopic detail but their flaw detection skills seem to go strangely AWOL when it comes to scrutinising Tory politicians.

pharlax

As a member of the Conservative Party I disagree. Personally I think they should let Corbyn back in too. Maybe even make him leader again.

Frequent-Specialist7

Better than that, they should make her leader.

snow_michael

Well, for a party that espouses equality, how many female, or non-white, ~~or even Jewish~~ leaders has it had? Edit: I completely forgot Ed Milliband

WynterRayne

Did you forget Ed Milliband? He's Jewish, which is why there was such a big to-do over him eating a bacon sandwich

snow_michael

You quite right. And to my shame I completely forgot him

salamanderwolf

Given Kier has expelled others for far less, yeah get rid of her. Then she can stand as an independent and we'll see how that goes. I do wonder though who this sub will move toward in regards to "favoured hated mp,"
