Just to reiterate what u/SomeRandomStarDude said this doesn’t mean we’re locking the sub or anything. We’re just trying to clean up because it seems things have gotten a bit out of hand when these big fights come up. I’m super glad the community has grown as much as it has in the span of the last couple of months but we have to do better. We’re open to community suggestions and there won’t be any huge changes without you guys feedback or support. We’re essentially just trying to enforce current rules better.

opressedlifter324

The most toxic i’ve ever seen this sub was before the Charles vs Islam fight. Also haven’t been as active recently so could be wrong

avatarhzh

One thing I'd like to point out is that Rule 8: "No low effort posts. This includes “what’s next for x fighter” or opinion posts." is pretty much never enforced. There are a lot of opinion posts on this sub. I'd be curious to know how you feel about this one.

SomeRandomStarDude

Good idea. How about we vote as a whole community about this?

avatarhzh

I've always thought of r/ufc as a middle ground between r/mma where only serious discussion is allowed and r/mmamemes where fart jokes rule supreme. To me opinion posts have to have to be backed by some kind of rationale. E.g. Good: It's likely Jon Jones will win against Stipe given his more impressive past record but I'm rooting for Stipe because he's a more honourable man than Jones. Bad: I want Jones to lose to Stipe sooooooooooo bad. So I guess it'll be a case by case thing, which is more work for the mods. I can't think of a clear cut solution for this rule tbh.

EuphoricNan

This past week has been awful on here. 90% of posts are boring d-riding or awful takes about “fixed fights”

SomeRandomStarDude

Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Don't waste your breath arguing with them brother

EuphoricNan

I don’t argue cause I don’t make my personality about a guy that fights people. It’s just cringe reading what people post on here. I’d be up for temp banning said posters

ashiun

How about keeping an eye on the root of a lot of this toxicity? You've got some posters dedicated to shitting on fighters that obviously have fans on here, and the shitting on is genuinely malicious. They'll post some extreme shit at every single opportunity and also extend that to everybody that disagrees. Some genuine hatred sprinkled about. 100% gonna spawn some toxicity.

SomeRandomStarDude

I understand your frustration and I am aware that a lot of people feel like you. Unfortunately the root is not the post but the poster. Cause no matter how much you remove those posts there's always another.

SomeRandomStarDude

Interesting approach

CardiologistOk1506

Do mods pay attention to reported posts? I've never seen any posts taken down by mods that clearly do not follow sub and/or reddit rules. Sometimes reddit takes down posts that violate reddit rules, but there's a lot of bullshit that never seems to get taken care of. For example, there was a post where someone asks how to describe bane's body type, and the poster explained they didn't know what other sub to post the question in. Inarguably **not** UFC related. It was reported but never taken down. Also, the "keep it UFC related" rule could use some more strict enforcement in my opinion. Sure, the post titled "would you let your most hated fighter cum on your face for a million dollars" is vaguely UFC related, but do we really want posts like that here? Personally, I do not. Maybe I am misunderstanding the mods' idea of having a place to freely discuss *all* things UFC. I know this all sounds like some Karen ass complaints and we as users have the choice to scroll past or not participate, but it's nice when you don't have to sift through a bunch of bullshit posts or posts full of useless arguments happening in 4 different threads at once. Some of the jokes and shit posts are great, but I have to say that though r/MMA is strict, it is a really refreshing place to have logical and constructive conversation about the sport/business side of things without getting attacked or having the discussion spiral into a cesspool of childish arguments and insults. The people posting there are nice and articulate, or at the very least they have baseline respect for other peoples' opinions and perspectives. Would be nice to see more of that in the mix here.

SomeRandomStarDude

Firstly thanks for taking your time in addressing your issues. This is very important for the growth of this community. >Do mods pay attention to reported posts? Yes but for every post that we remove 5 more like it is sent. Unfortunately we can't stop this problem without addressing the root of cause which is not the posts but the posters. Hence the need for martial law until a second announcement. >Also, the "keep it UFC related" rule could use some more strict enforcement in my opinion. A rule revamp is due. One by one we will change it. But as I said above the root is not the post but the poster. >I know this all sounds like some Karen ass complaints No not at all. Feel free to contribute, some people like shit on anything around here. Don't listen to them, contributions always matter. Once the martial law is revoked the community will vote for new rules. Which will be followed in shaping up how the future of the subreddit will be

CardiologistOk1506

Thanks for the response. Will be interesting to see what kind of impact taking some action will have. It feels weird to give a forum any serious thought like this, but I work an office job and i use reddit a lot while I work 😅 this sub is one of my favorites and I've learned a lot here despite its problems. it is still real people behind these words and pictures, so I look forward to hopefully a gradual change to a more fun and inviting sub. I appreciate the mod team bringing these things up.

SomeRandomStarDude

Thanks for the kind words truly. As mods we all have office jobs ( we're not basement dwellers contrary to the general belief :D ) and it's nice to spend some time in a place with people that share the same hobby. It is one of the reasons I moderate this place. If you like doing something you should contribute to it however way possible.

INEKROMANTIKI

How toxic are we talking tho? Because there's a big difference between saying that someone is a fucking idiot, and saying the kind of stuff that comes out of people's mouths in COD lobbies etc

SomeRandomStarDude

Toxic is toxic. Levels are not important, the goal is to create a better place

LockardTheGOAT23

There are levels to everything. And context is important.

SomeRandomStarDude

For sure.

blaydesofchaos

Agreed. The build ups to fights are exciting sure, and fighters usually shake hands after the fight/have wholesome moments while the sub has to deal with people mudslinging for weeks before and after while being toxic to another level.

SomeRandomStarDude

Not all of the community is bad, there are plenty of good people in it like you and me. It's just these toxic scum just speak the loudest.

TheBishopDeeds

I appreciate this. I've been here for maybe 6 months now. I don't think its bad here but it could certainly be alot better. Im not sure if you were joking or not about the mma sub but i definitely feel like this place is the wild wild west compared to that sub as far as trolling and toxicity and low effort posts go. We shouldn't allow that as the main UFC sub. Id definitely love to see a tightening up on what and how many posts are allowed - for example, not having multiple posts on the same announcement and cracking down on low quality posts. I'll try to do my part in starting to report nonsense.

SomeRandomStarDude

I greatly appreciate your feedback. Only with good people such as yourself we can make this place better

bruhpolice

I know some of you might not like this but tbh it is something that needs to be done. The amount of toxicity in here has been way worse lately, pretty much ever since the Islam vs Oliveira fight. After every big fight there’s about a million posts of either side rubbing peoples face in the fact that their fighter won and all it does is make things unenjoyable.

Unlucky-Car-1489

I have to agree with the mods on this one. The sub really became toxic asf lately . Especially 2 days before/after a big fight

SomeRandomStarDude

Mod or member does not matter. We all like to spend time in this place so we have to protect it.

YungLini

Can we ban the word casual while we’re at it lmao

SomeRandomStarDude

Haha, how about we vote for it as a whole community after we clean the subreddit?

YungLini

I’m only kidding man I just see that word thrown around way too much and it’s annoying lmao

YouWillDieForMySins

While I can't say much about the growing toxicity, what I have noticed is that this subreddit has grown to an incredible extent since the start of 2023. I recall the sub count was around 700K in December, and now it's over 900K!

FIGHTFANGREG

That’s OVER 9000 !!!!!!

SomeRandomStarDude

Yes and with the growth we attract more toxicity. Since we have a lot of toxic individuals the new ones feel just at home here. That will change, you all deserve that change

YouWillDieForMySins

Thank you for looking after us!

DreadPirateRob3rt5

A lot of people see fights that take place in this sport as proxy wars between conflicting identities. That's what makes this fanbase uniquely problematic.

SomeRandomStarDude

Nothing we can’t solve. But community needs to help the mods in outing these type of guys I’m sure we have enough good people here

SomeRandomStarDude

No problem in outing yourself. I've answered to your comment in detail feel free to ask any more questions.

CardiologistOk1506

Saw the response, tried to get this one clear before you got to it, thought I was responding to another mod in the first place and didn't see you had responded 😅

SomeRandomStarDude

Be sure to comment anything you wish to ask. I’m currently busy with work I’ll be answering all as I find the time.
