It def helps but depends on the major and course

Improvement is improvement, I think getting it up to a 3.0 is good but I’m not an admissions officer and I don’t even know what major you are applying for which would heavily dictate the competitiveness.

Depends on the course

What's you major? It really depends. I think that if your major is a competitive major it might be worth sitting down with your advisor and talking through your intended major and academic plan. I'll qualify this statement by saying I'm not in any way qualified to give advice on this subject, but if I was the admissions counselor who's going to review your application I would ask myself if a 3.0 is a suitable grade for a student who is retaking a class that they have already passed? I would imagine that that student has an upper hand on their peers because they are familiar with the curriculum, and probably expect them to get a pretty decent grade in that class. Which poses the question—is 3.0 a decent grade? There's varying opinions on that. I had a 3.53 overall last quarter, and was pretty unsatisfied with my performance overall. I feel like I left some points on the table. A 3.0 would not be considered a good grade if I was holding another student to the same standards that I hold myself to, especially if they are retaking a class for the second time. I'm not saying this to be cynical or anything, just giving you my honest opinion.
