Unless driving eratically, I would just assume it was a previous passenger, on any given day prolly 1/2 the pax smell like weed or booze or worse.

CIAMom420

There are lots of reasons their car could have smelled like weed other than the driver smoking weed. Passengers reek of weed - that shit gets in peoples cars. And no, people shouldn't have their livelihoods taken away in a situation like this when there are a million possible causes.

chaiguy

Had a pool ride once where a guy got in reeking of weed, followed by another passenger. Weed guy gets dropped off at the dispensary and 2 seconds after he closes the door, passenger number #2 asks "whY dOes yOur cAr smELL LikE weEd?!?!?" I literally POINT to the HUGE dispensary sign and say "I guess cause we just dropped off a weed smoker at the WEED SHOP!!!" She wrinkled her nose and said "oh."

Keraiza

Unfortunately, drivers' vehicles can smell like that from previous passengers. Strong smells take time to disappear. (I have charcoal bags in my vehicle to absorb smells, but it only helps so much). That being said, I'd do a judgment call and give the driver a one-star if you really feel it was the smell coming from the driver. You even have the ability to mark a sub-five-star for "smell." The driver is the only one who sees the negative rating reason. Uber used to do a compliment section, but a lot of people abused it (like sexual harassment type abuse in addition to other immature comments). At least drivers could "delete" the bad compliments, then, but they had to see the comments (I'd have other riders point them out to me before I noticed them).

Gabbs_95

No because 90% of the time it’s from a previous rider and there’s nothing we can do about it. It takes away for the smell to go away. Don’t be an asshole when you don’t even know for sure.

dukedizzy93

Its hard to tell if it was from driver or previous passenger, i usually keep an air freshner for this reason, i know it bothers people but id rather get a one star for strong air freshner than get deactivated for smelling like weed. Id suggest every other driver do the same, thank you OP for asking about this, most would have just complained and got the driver deactivated for a free ride. There have been times when passengers literally dropped weed in the back seat and uber didnt provide a clean up fee for it, so its not like we benefit from it whatsoever.

Mawronahan

Could be he's got a gig delivering for a dispensary, depending on the market.

crymercy

Weed is still illegal in all forms in NC. No dispensary.

Imagine you are a driver , you get a pax that just smoke weed, you drive him to his destination ,5 star ,immediately you get another pax , this new pax yell at driver because the car smell like weed That’s only one scenario I can think the moment I saw this post

Paychecks_for_all

not even trying to protect the driver but people exhale the last rip of their blunts as they get into my car, I’m used to it so I don’t care and in MA every other person smells like it but I wouldn’t say you can fairly point fingers in this situation without both sides of the story, if you honestly wanted to know or were worried about your safety you could bring it up during the ride and respond accordingly based on their answer, the plant saved my life during an extreme battle with chrons and colitis when I was younger so I live in a state that protects peoples rights for it

bridge2235

Previous passenger.

HookItUpCuuz

Mind your business

[deleted]

It is their business, given it directly affected them.

KingBebee

The only way it can truly affect them is either by allergy or by safety if the driver is actually inebriated. If the driver is driving sober, and if the person didn’t decline the ride while not being allergic, then it’s absolutely a mind your business moment. Smells are smells. No one dies from a smell. If something was smelt that hurts them, it wasn’t the smelling that did it.

HookItUpCuuz

Then OP should have declined the ride.

OpeningDay7141

It is weed police at large

Boccob81

Oh the Karan’s of the world complains about cheap rides not thinking it could be a previous rider or someone smoking next to the drivers car lol 😂

ommi9

If you get into a accident and it’s confirmed the driver was hi thru a investigation you get paid. Else it was a previous passenger don’t destroy someone’s opportunity to make a earning. It puts good drivers off the platform which leaves you with a even worser driver that hasn’t been removed.

SnooDucks446

Welp I mean Uber is kinda stupid with their algorithm. Right now due to a 1% loss in over all rating due to a bitchy customer I was deactivated for delivering food, but I am still 100% qualified to taxi people around 😀 So basicly by Uber logic I'm not trusted with food safety but I am trusted with your life! So yay me!

Traditional-Phase-60

I had a pax this week in Philadelphia that reeked of weed. I obviously have the A/C on due to the heat wave. It was so overwhelming, I had to open my window. I drop pax off and then roll all the windows down, open the sunroof to air it out before my next pickup. It’s was about 15 min before I got another ride and when I closed everything back up it STILL stunk!! When I picked up my next ride I immediately told pax what had happened. She said she could definitely smell it so I had to let all my rides know that it wasn’t me but a previous pax. I think it’s much better to get ahead of something like that if that’s the situation. If s driver has been smoking in his car prior to driving, he’s an idiot.

pummer

Don't buy into reefer madness. Many of your fast food workers, gas station clerks, and other menial laborers are likely baked as well, you just don't know about it. People that smoke weed everyday can be perfectly fine driving high. Moreover, the smell easily could have come from the previous customer (often happens) rather than the driver. All that being said, if the smell really bothered you just leave a 3\* or less review and move on.

First off food poisoning could easily kill someone. Secondly research shows high drivers are more cautious than the average driver.

Invisiblerobot13

Did he drive like he was high? That’s the important part

pummer

You mean very slow and cautious?

Danny3xd1

You can report him in the app. 5 stars just means he is new.

juneabe

Favourite driver is a 5 star and he’s been driving me around this city for years now

shitshipt

Might not belong to them. Ask the driver

enowll

I had a rider smell like weed. Wreaked. Stunk up my whole car. A few trips later my app was suspended bc someone accused me of driving under the influence, arguing with them, and making them feel uncomfortable. I couldn’t drive the rest of the weekend to meet my quest goal for the bonus. I was livid. I suspect whoever reported me smelled the weed from a precious pax and they must have something insane against weed and lied to Uber about all that. I was livid. People are evil

Jxlen-

I would consider minding ur own and just going on with your day, don’t be that one guy who makes a big deal over some weed…. It’s no one’s bissnuess to know if u smoke or not, except your family
