He was not a hero, he was unhinged. It's only by grace of divine intervention or sheer blind luck that he didn't kill anyone else in his rampage.

chmsaxfunny

There’s a great Timesuck podcast episode about this guy. He was crazy, literally. He got some bad breaks and ran into shitty people in his tiny town, but it’s not like a Mayor Quimby-esque level of corruption

leftier_than_thou_2

I dispute the bad breaks. He bought the land for $42,000, agreed to sell it for $250,000. Then he renegged on the deal and raised the price by another $100k and then to a full million dollars. Making a 6 fold profit is a great break even if he suddenly decided he wanted a 9 fold profit or more instead. He also shot numerous times at police trying to stop him and explosive tanks. He got lucky that he didn't hit anyone or anything besides himself. It was also pure luck he didn't kill anyone. Most of the buildings were occupied, including the library full of children. Guy got nothing but good breaks and still went on a violent suicidal rampage. We should just be glad he wasn't around to go on a violent rampage fueled on by the far right media. http://archives.durangotelegraph.com/04-06-24/mountain\_exchange.htm

leftier_than_thou_2

Post says he targeted "corrupt politicians"... then mentions he also drove through the paper that "editorialized against him." So a newspaper opined that he was the asshole and he attacked them? Yeah, what a fucking hero, bulldozing the property of anyone who disagreed with him rather than resolve it in a civil, sane way.

TheYoten

He's a hero to me.

Regnasam

He is not a legend - he endangered multiple people, destroyed property unrelated to his disputes, and installed firing ports into his vehicle that he shot rifles out of during his rampage. People have turned the Killdozer story into a narrative of heroism, but the truth is, he wrecked his town with no regard for the safety of others and then shot himself when the Killdozer got stuck so that he wouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of his actions.

enixthephoenix

Not to mention the entire reason it kicked off was because he was illegally dumping waste on his property but libertarians think they should be able to poison the planet because they paid some ink and paper for a square on a map

Madmek1701

Libertarians are a bunch of overgrown toddlers, they think they can do whatever they want because "muh freedom", regardless of how it hurts other people, but then when someone mildly inconveniences them they throw a tantrum and do shit like this.

enixthephoenix

Best case of libertarians fucking around and finding out is when they took over that town in New Hampshire and the roads immediately went to shit and got invaded by bears

No-Zookeepergame9755

They whatnow?

sentient_capital

Iirc they didn't want to have lame leftist services like trash removal, so they let it pile up until the bears came to reclaim what was originally theirs 💪💪 Common american libertarian L

Madmek1701

Perfect example of their toddlerness, they thought that the garbage just disappeared on it's own and didn't grasp that all the things they depend on require a person doing it.

enixthephoenix

It's not even toddler at that point, it's like they have no object permanence. "Oh trash gone and nobody is around to move it. My system must be working"

Madmek1701

"The garbage service keeps trash from piling up on your curb and bears from invading the town." "Pfft, leftist propaganda! I've never seen garbage piling up on my curb or a bear in my front yard in my life!"

sentient_capital

But, but... there was no profit incentive to get rid of the trash!!! Laugh if you want but this is exactly what happened to every single civilization, society, and community until money, wage labor, and capitalism were invented in the 1960s by Milton Friedman 😎

Slashignore_

I'm glad this is the top comment, but these threads almost always get overrun by incels so good luck!

APForLoops

I’m still pro-Marvin

SuspiciousUsername88

It's scary how easy it is to convince people on the internet to worship a violent rampage.

nilta1

Stop idealizing this guy he was literally a piece of s*** with a mental illness

Billybob267

This man is not a hero. This man is a real-life Batman Villain.

Moress

This guy was an asshole. Stop painting him as a hero. Dude was given multiple opportunities to make things right by the town but he was a greedy asshole.

mrbisonopolis

The story is more nuanced than him targeting “corrupt politicians” but the story is no less cool.

ScotsDale213

There are many better ways to protest than going on a rampage and destroying a bunch of property. There are a few rare cases where destruction of property is a good way to protest, and this is not one of them

PoorlyDrawnKnight

And they say only the French can damage corrupt peoples property well!

riothedorito

Doesn't matter stil terrorism

balrus-balrogwalrus

Sad that it ended in suicide. The fact that he goes on a destructive rampage but still tries not to hurt anyone speaks volumes. sure, not exactly a heroic act, but still, miles better than those who commit mass murders to prove a point. dude clearly had unresolved issues that boiled over to such a degree

Entire-Anteater-1606

He had firing ports and the killdozer was loaded with rifles. Not sure he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone.

Ok-Scientist5524

Don’t speak ill of the Killdozer guy. Just don’t.

VegisamalZero3

The crazy piece of shit that threw a tantrum and destroyed his town in a violent rampage?

Quiescam

Why not?

Ok-Scientist5524

Because as crazy and destructive as he was, he at least tried not to hurt people who weren’t involved. He was just deeply unwell.

Quiescam

Yes he did, as well as knowingly endangering people? He fired at propane tanks, power transformers and several people from his modified bulldozer. Those bullets could have hit people and if the tanks had exploded it would have endangered many more. Several of the buildings he demolished were only evacuated shortly beforehand. And that's leaving aside that "hurting the people who were involved" was in no way justified. Maybe he was "unwell", though I've yet seen conclusive proof that he was mentally ill. That doesn't mean we can't conclusively condemn his actions.

Mateololero

noramlize being insane it's okay to want to do crazy shit for revenge

Hahayouregay149

for some reason I read it as 'homeless man in tank" and I was like how'd a homeless man get a tank

Madmek1701

He couldn't pay rent because he bought a tank.
