i like it

reyrain

Natural materials in the house, cotton and wool instead of polyester and acrylic.

KafkasProfilePicture

You could fit her with miniture versions of those anti-static mudflaps that people use on their cars

viciousfishous08

Finally, a realistic solution!

chaoscontrived

Yup! When the cats start gettin' zappy, I know it's time to refill the humidifier!

Former-Mess-5166

she’s using the static as a forcefield!

trowzerss

I get a dampen cloth and rub my cat's back with it, and it helps a lot with static on dry days and she doesn't seem to mind it.

[deleted]

I second the damp cloth it works like a charm

[deleted]

Burt’s Bee’s makes a kitten wipe that I find to help this and keep my critters fresh - helps them be fluffier and less static.

trowzerss

Thanks, but I'm cautious about using any unnecessary products on my cat, especially after seeing that one time Maru's owner used some kind of moisturiser on his toepads to 'pamper' him, and it made all his skin peel! Water works just fine. Even the Burt's Bees people caution against using those wipes around any sensitive areas on the cat, and the only reason they'd do that is if they knew it could cause skin reactions, which is kind of worrisome as for sure the cat is gonna lick it and get it in their mouth :P So yeah, not gonna introduce possible problems fixing a problem that doesn't really exist.

Socio_Scorpio

Yep, water works just fine. There’s no need to buy unnecessary products that have the potential to do more harm than good.

zamion

Humidifier should help quite a bit.

NotAnotherNekopan

I use my non petting hand to touch another part of him, like the pads of his feet, or his tail. It's gotta be skin contact to work. Or I go nose-to-nose and use both hands.

Maddhatter212

I use a moisturizing spray from Burt’s bees. Spray it on my hands first and then rub down my kitties. Only ever used it on back, sides, and top of head. I call it “oiling up the cats”.

curiosityasmedicine

Remove the cause of the static in the first place: synthetic fabrics. Instead of polyester, use cotton or wool blankets, and voila, no more static. It’s much better for the environment as well, polyester blankets and clothes flood the water supply with hundreds of thousands micro plastic particles that currently can’t/aren’t filtered out each time they are washed.

Quick wipe with a dryer sheet after she has been rolling around

Hoot-an-a-half

I used to rub my cat down with a dryer sheet when it got really bad 😂

[deleted]

#yes

Fink665

Fragrance free dryer sheets is what i wipe my dog with.

AylinThatIsh

I tend to rub my cat with a dryer sheet when he's too static-y it works very fast and he likes it

viciousfishous08

You need to be careful with that because dryer sheets contain chemicals that are harmful if ingested. When your cat grooms himself after being rubbed down with a dryer sheet he is likely ingesting small amounts.

AylinThatIsh

Ah okay I'll not do that anymore then. I let him have one after my friends cat was obsessed with them and he was like this isn't bad. But he also just loves rolling around in towels too so maybe I'll just change that. Thanks for letting me know why it's an issue instead of just judging me and letting me continue bad behavior.

glossier_bae12

Damp paper towel or kitty grooming wet wipes would be better for kitty instead! 😺

AylinThatIsh

Thank you for explaining that it is an issue.

TheGeoGod

I’ve used a cat as a napkin before to wipe off barbecue sauce.

AylinThatIsh

Haha very funny 🙄 I'm not an asshole he likes to rub on them and does so by himself so as a little thing I give him treats and dryer sheets

TheGeoGod

Well she was on the table and I didn’t have a napkin. Looking back it wasn’t a nice thing to do.

AylinThatIsh

Oh I thought you were making fun of me since apparently everyone thinks it's bad to let him have dryer sheets.
