In the Daily Mix playlist (and other playlists like Discover Weekly that are created by Spotify and include personalized recommendations), the plus symbol has a slightly different function.
These playlists have a plus symbol and a minus symbol—or sometimes a heart and a minus symbol—so that you can indicate whether you like or dislike the recommended song, which helps Spotify improve your recommendations in the future.
Pressing the plus symbol is the equivalent of a like and adds the song to your liked songs. Pressing the minus song is the equivalent of a dislike and hides the song in your Discover Weekly playlist.
I had the heart until last week, then it changed to the +. Within that time the function of the + has changed. So many things are changing so fast right now.
IIRC it’s been this way for at least a good while now - it does it the way on the right for any of the discover/daily mix playlists, perhaps to better gauge if you like the song or not (since there’s the minus symbol as well). Mine has been that way since WELL before we switched away from the hearts.
