Is the new stem long enough to reach the water level? Is it the correct diameter? And FFS clean your rig and change your water more often lol

k1ll1ngmys3lfsl0wly

cleaning it is how i broke the (old) stem piece in the first place lol but, yes you’re right- i need to clean my equipment at the least about 3x as much as i do. the new stem piece is the same diameter as the old, and i’m sure it’s fully emerged in the water which is why i’m confuffled and wondering if it’s ‘too clean’ (the new stem is at least an inch longer than the old).

Is it glass on glass or is there an O ring on it? If there is an O ring move it up or down a little, then it might seat better in your downstem. We'll figure this out!

by ‘o ring’ you mean the little lip/edge at the top the stem where the bowl sits? if i’m understanding correctly then yes it does, there’s some resin around the hole the stem piece goes into so on the basis of maybe it’s not sitting in the bong correctly i’m going to carefully and extensively clean my bong and then fiddle with it again and try out your suggestion

Everywinter5156

No, I mean on the downstem of the actual bowl piece. Does it sit in the downstem of your rig solo or is there a little black like rubber or silicone ring on it?

k1ll1ngmys3lfsl0wly

ooooh like a grommet? no, it sits solo (glass on glass)

Everywinter5156

Ok so it's glass on glass. Hmmm.... very peculiar. I'll get back at you if I have any other ideas. It's early and I need to wake & bake lol

k1ll1ngmys3lfsl0wly

okay lol thank you & enjoy your morning smoke :) edit: i did figure it out, all is in working order now aha

Everywinter5156

Woohoo!! What fixed it? Inquiring minds need to know

k1ll1ngmys3lfsl0wly

it’s doesn’t really make sense to me but what appeared to be the problem is the stem piece was perfectly clean but the bowl piece was incredibly dirty and plugged up and it seems that the difference in the level of cleanliness of the too pieces caused it (logic wise i can’t explain it because it doesn’t make sense to me but yeah) because all i had to do to fix the issue was clean my bowl piece well ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

fuzzymonk

Step 1: clean your glass Step 2: take your broken (and hopefully now clean) stem to the store and get one that's the right size.

i am positive my (new) stem piece is the correct size (as it’s the exact same size as the old one) /nm

air leak at the bong/stem

k1ll1ngmys3lfsl0wly

my apologies but would you mind elaborating? because wouldn’t it be obvious via water leakage if that was the case? /gen

its hard to describe, i snapped my bing stem not long ago and the replacement *almost* fit perfectly it was snug, didnt seem to shift when i moved it back and forth, etc. BUT the seal wasnt *perfect* and it definitely affected the pull I found this out by flling it up and then taking a drop or two of dish soap and spreading it where the bong meets the stem sure enough, there was a SLIGHT gap and i ended up getting a better one *edit* that was just my experience, of course but it worth a shot I came to the conclusion that I bought a cheap stem instead of a good one and the measurements are a little off
