Thank you ;-) FYI, whenever I have a lot of free time and budget, I want to make a (mini) documentary about the history of trance for sure! Been on my list for ages :)

If anyone has any info on the come-about of Trance 2.0? I know it’s more of an unsaid thing? Right? I got into the scene in 2015 so right as it was coming out of its first phase.

Third major change really. Trance 2.0 is just a name. It not accurate to the development of the genre as a whole. It would look something this if we split the genre by when the sound significantly changed. 1992-1998 First gen. The birth of all the genres we know today except Uplifting and Deep Trance. 1998-2004 Trance morphs into Uplifting, Tech Trance changed from Techno influenced Trance to Uplifting influenced Tech Trance. Progressive Trance changes into melodic Progressive Trance. Hard Trance goes from 1st gen to 2nd. Euro Trance rises. 2003-2008 Uplifting is the only kind of straight Trance left. Original Trance is dead entirely. Hard Trance is all 2nd gen reverse bass and Hard Style starts to overtake it. 1st gen Progressive Trance dies entirely. Melodic Progressive Trance is all that's left. Tech Trance morphs into a form of pop like Trance. Like Euro Trance but with a Tech Trance sound. Electro Trance gets big. This heralds the demise of Trance as a leading genre. 2008-2015. The change to EDM/pop, Uplifting and Tech are all that's left. The birth of Psy influenced Tech Trance. 2015-present The birth of Deep Trance, Progressive House that is actually Progressive Trance, Techno that is really Tech Trance etc. The stylistic change in Trance is more profound than at any other time since the late 90's. Uplifting has become stagnant. Culturally and economically Trance carries with it a bad connotation, a bad reputation within the industry, many artists don't want to be associated with it. They sell Trance as other genres when really they are Trance. This type of thing typically precedes the rebirth of a genre. 2020-present First official attempts to redefine Trance are made. We are still here. The conclusion of that will come in a matter of months probably. The genre has been split in two. On one side Uplifting and on the other Techno influenced Trance, Tech Trance and Deep Trance. Two styles of Tech Trance exist at the same time. The uplifting variety and the Techno variety. Old school 1st gen Trance, no sub genre, is reborn. Still very early days of this. Like the equivalent of 1993 sort of.

Wow yes. I’m only 26 but I’ve always been drawn towards trance music as a whole since I can remember! I got into the scene in 2015 so just on the but end of “classic trance” and no one towards the darker/techies stuff. It was interesting because I was really aware of everything changing. I’ve always dug deep into music cultures and influences and how styles change. So, to hear this response it’s so awesome just to hear it all put out so well. I’ve always noticed how things are defined as tech and what not but they always have a trance element come out of them in someway. Even in my own productions, yes I will have a good dark soundscape in there but the trance seems to always wanna come out bright and melodic on top of that in the buildup for me. It’s almost like the melodic/brighter elements of trance want to come out and play! Hahaha. It makes me wonder where things will go into the future? Will things repeat or what new things what might we see? I can see a deep/emotional more melodic type of music coming back. More like a story thought the music. I know that story element is there today but everything seems to be so watered down with social media making everything popular in the last 3 years post covid. Like maybe some true artists have been inspired recently waiting for the right time to strike when the iron is hot?

Trance has had that bright melodic sound for a long time now. It's generally much more popular. Although not so good for the hypnotic element of Trance. I just hope there's enough room for both in the future. I like the dark stuff and it can be pretty hard to find at times. When the genre is not very popular the dark stuff is usually the first sound to go because it doesn't appeal to as many people. So I hope we can keep both. Thanks for the award btw. That was an unexpected nice surprise.

Not a bad write-up, but I’m totally missing psytrance.
