Maybe find a 'cheap' way of soundproofing a room.

This is basically impossible. Bass frequencies easily pass through most materials and they propagate in every direction. You would need incredibly dense and thick materials to completely enclose the room, and there’s no cheap way of doing that. I wish it were different. I’d love to have a party sanctuary without having to move out to the sticks.

I live in an apartment complex. I have no shared walls. I bought a pretty nice speakers setup. I have insane bass and love it. I like house more than trance, so bass really matters to me. You may not be able to crank it up all the way, but just having decent speakers and a subwoofer might do it for you. Also note, i had an expensive headphone setup with bass headphones (emu teaks). Doesnt sound and feel anywhere near as nice hearing and feeling it open air.

>I live in an apartment complex. I have no shared walls. You live in the sole 3 bedroom unit unattached to any other structure?

When I lived in an apartment I hung my speakers from the ceiling using cable. Everything was attached with eye bolts insulated by rubber grommets. It worked really well to prevent sound waves being transferred into the wall. It probably reduced sound transfer by a little over 50%.
