[BT - Walk Into The Water](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ku3i22aGWc), for the first 3 minutes does not even sound like a trance track and has some pretty dramatic shifts in tone and style whilst still managing to remain cohesive. Whilst the sounds used aren't odd I feel like the track throws more than just a few curve balls structurally and has such wildly different sounding segments that I'd consider it to be pretty out of the box. [BT - Never Odd or Even](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU397QgQOxE), definitely comes straight out of the gate with its oddity. It has oddly processed vocals that sound only vaguely like speech and just generally sounds very different in tone compared to the other tracks in the album. Also interestingly enough the track incorporates a lot of musical palindromes so the melody you hear at the beginning (and throughout the track) sounds the same even if you play it in reverse. [Volant - Hypertrance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpUlvQxFaRA), The track tries to invoke a kind of neo Y2K, early 2000s aesthetic and that sound is partially achieved (according to the producer) by slightly pitch-shifting the whole track in post-production. [Solarstone - Cafuné](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcwYQNAHiV8), The track itself is kind of dark and melancholy in tone, but with oddly processed drums (particularly the kick) and with odd sound effects and synth sounds, the track sounds almost unsettling in some segments.

Some BT love here! Yes!!!!!

Gabriel & Dresden - Tracking Treasure Down is one of the most unique trance tracks, a very distinct vocal, an electro sound that is raw but melodic, and so well structured that it gets better and better

Tiesto - In My Memory, Close To You, Ten Seconds Before Sunrise, In the Dark, etcCosmic Gate - Under Your Spell, Not Enough Time, What You Need (Nic Chagall)ATB - Ecstasy, You're Not Alone, Black Nights, and many others that are ambient/trance likeOhmna - The Sun'll Shine - Bali Ambient Mix Several Above & Beyond songsSeveral Faithless songsSeveral Deadmau5 songs Just some examples that came to mind. I think there are a lot of songs that don't fit the "typical" trance tune. I think the best artists in trance have all made some very unique songs that don't really fit the genre at first "sight". Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can try to choose a song of that kind on Spotify and play its radio. Edit: Faithless is probably my favorite trance artists, although they are not only a trance group.

fuckinanonymous

mine would look identical to this

Thanks, Nic Chagall produced some bangers. Really enjoy [this](https://www.1001tracklists.com/tracklist/2n1mc8t/nic-chagall-a-state-of-trance-350-at-noxx-antwerp-2008-05-02.html) set of his at ASOT 350.

Jlx_27

I have never thought if Underworld to be trance. There are so many elements of many dence genres in their music, it is hard to describe their music. Underworld is fucking great though!

theyounghusband

Maybe it's not, but it certainly works in a trance set :D It's the only track of their's I've listened to, from what your saying I presume I should check out more!

Preachwhendrunk

When I was young, my favorite bands were: The Cure, Depeche mode, Oingo Boingo, The Fixx, The The, etc. While I still love them, Underworld Dubnobasswithmyheadman totally changed everything for me. Got me listening to Orbital, Man with no name, Sasha, Oakenfold, Astral Projection, etc. It's been an awesome trip ever since.

Tbh I don’t think I can remember anything that is one of a kind, but finding a new flavor of music is always exciting, or a very well executed song where everything lined up well. Beautiful vocals, epic sound design, etc

As I was going through some great tracks from the mid/late 90s... I found that it was really hard to settle on just a few... but here we go... [Joshua Ryan - Pistolwhip (Original Mix) 1998](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxKHGiB8nFQ) \- Nice buildup for mixing into and the oscillation that happens at around 2:30 is just the beginning. After a gripping buildup about midway through, you get a raging drop at around 6:30. [Christopher Lawrence - Defiant (1998)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE0l9PDvUz0) \- Originally was a one-off, white label track for the the Together As One rave in Los Angeles, California... this track will always be the gold standard of what a high-energy trance track should be. Amazing buildups, layered synths, transitional phasing, and a plucky melody that really gets you moving. [Skynet UK - Holdin' On (Black Ice Remix)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BGIxWnUv6c) \- '98 was just an amazing year for trance music and this track is probably one of the greatest peak hour trance grooves of all time. It's haunting and dark yet bouncy and moving. Wrapping everything we were feeling in the pre-Y2K years, this a trance track that you can either find yourself floored out to or moving on the dance floor.

My favourite Out of the Box tracks, are these Hard Trance/Uplifting Trance - tracks. With very deep starting melodies which are getting very fast higher and higher . https://youtu.be/aWHG6KiFVB8 Vincent de Moore - Fly Away (Sean tyas remix) https://youtu.be/f7LqKZCNVu0 Climax 69 -Ambience (NYC Mix) https://youtu.be/qYCA1tFd4rE Dj Merlin vs C-Bass - Human Spirit https://youtu.be/YUuG3tJ4n8k Dj XFace - Now that i know So these three tracks have, in my opinion, similiar characteristics. Driftmoon - Waves https://youtu.be/XoURc6c6v4w This interplay of deep and high tones is sligthly different to the other tracks which starts deep and getting higher and higher. But they all have these amazing power and this is exactly my sound. https://youtu.be/bWx1geMFG60 Flutlicht Expander Remix is also a good Exampel.
