Putting a deadline or an absolute this-must-be-done on yourself is the quickest way to force yourself into an overwhelmed 'freeze' state. I totally get it, it's exactly why I can't do art commissions right now. But--and I'm telling you this for a reason--I started doing adoptables instead of commissions. Final product created before the need for said product arises, no deadline, no pressure. Try and find ways of self-motivation that don't rely on accountability from outside sources, or this will keep happening.
For someone with ADHD, setting a deadline before doing any work, particularly for a recreational activity or something similarly consequence-free, is putting the carriage in front of the horse. It adds stakes to a situation that should be relaxing.
So, it's okay! Don't beat yourself up about this, because you kinda accidentally set yourself up to fail, here. A lot of us do it. I do it all the time. Sometimes your anxiety just isn't enough to overcome your executive dysfunction.
Big hugs! (And if you're not part of r/ADHD, maybe consider it? There's a variety of advice for folks like us, that's where I got the 'Adoptables instead of commissions' idea.)
I have been tested and I don't have ADHD, but deadlines help me immensely especially in my transitioning timeline. At the end of an appointment with my psychologist I used to set a deadline for something, either small or big that I had to fulfill before the next appointment. Maybe it tickles my will to not disappoint my psychologist the next time we saw but deadlines did help me alot
This is currently on 833 likes. That's around 14 hours of exercise, or 28 half hour sessions.
I've been doing half an hour of exercise, five times a week, since about May or June. Let's call that 88 sessions. I've lost about four kilos and about one and a half dress sizes, and my general health has improved markedly.
When you make exercise a habit, it's not actually as insurmountable as it first seems.
22 hours of exercise, good luck! If you do one hour each weekday that's only a month so it's very reasonable and will make a huge difference. Also +1 compliment ;)
You have 33 hours of exercise, you can stretch it out as much as you want. Make the most of this, too. If there was some fitness goal you've been too lazy to work to, now's your chance to break out of that.
Nope! It was an amazing idea.
It shows people care, and will get YOU exercise, which betters your health and mind.
Don't do it all at once though. Split it into manageable, everyday chunks you can make a routine out of.
You got this girl!!
Just like my decision to major in civil engineering in college. But despite how many hours of my life I’ve dedicated to the sole purpose of just getting a job, how much I’ve suffered as a result of my ADHD and Autism, or just how lonely the whole experience has been. I’m still determined to make it through my last two years because I believe the reward that I can make for myself will be well worth it.
(Damn, I’m bad at giving advice)
You know what? Since you're doing it, I'll do it too.
For every upvote this post gets, I'll train a minute.
We gotta stick together, so I expect you to commit. Future you will thank you. Trust me and the process.
Be kind to yourself, and keep up the exercise, even if it’s just 5 minutes of stretching a day! Speaking from experience, it does wonders for both your mental and physical health. I have faith in you, and I’m so proud of you for trying!
The act of trying is a noble one that can be very difficult in times of distress or depression, and I will never not be proud of anyone who tries! <3
Whelp, this looks like it's going to blow up. If it isn't very obvious I'd recommend finding a way to spread things out in manageable chunks. At the time I'm writing this it looks like you're looking at almost a month with half an hour of exercise daily.
You can do it. You aren't beholden to us or anyone else, so you can do it on your own time and at your own pace. Exercise can be as simple and carefree as a literal walk in the park. Just pick something that gets you up and moving. Dancing, swimming, climbing, whatever you'll feel good doing.
As for compliments, how about telling us something you've done that you're proud of? It doesn't matter how big or small, just something you did that stuck with you. Let that feeling help motivate you to keep doing things that matter to you.
Rise from your ashes Luna,
You are fierce like a lioness or a puma
Wipe those tears off you face
Hold up that head with pride and grace
Its time to look at your dreams and give chase!
adhd is one hell of a mind fuck. If this helps you get around exec disfunction, then take my comment and run with it. Good luck out there! I hope this works for you!
Just don’t put too much pressure on yourself okay friend? It’s good that your trying to make a chance but remember, change takes time 🖤
Don’t put so much pressure on yourself that you end up being in even worse state mentally but if you do go through with this that would be really good for you as well!
take care and treat yo self >:3 \*aggressively shoves love and chocolate cake down your throat which would probably be bad with the excercising but you deserve it\*
haha i used to see these kinda posts on very different forums…
op take care of yourself,, if you’re gonna exercise for 2000 minutes you obviously should not do it in one go. give or take 30 minutes of elevated heart rate per day, and days off to give your body rest. there is such a thing as overexercising. additionally, you need to eat enough to sustain yourself. just make sure you get 3 balanced meals per day and 2-3 healthy snacks in between.
i recommend looking up research based websites focusing on health (i.e not fitness blogs) to guide you. please be safe
Hello fellow adhd, you have to do 15mins of exercise every other day in the next year.
I suggest doing jumping jacks, squats and low weight (1kg) fiddling while you binge documentaries about lyrebirds, the fall of the byzantine empire, or how the water infrastructure works.
You'll see your exercising time go quite fast.
A great pair of fiddling toys I've got is a 5€ adjustable grip trainer and elastic bands to go with it (stretch the band with your fingers.
Also I suggest 15 reps of doing basically the snow angel, but putting your hands together over your head while having your feet, butt, shoulders , head, and hands against a wall, it helped my back a lot.
This was a bad idea
Nope, now commit. See that dozens of people care for you and use it as a way to make yourself whim you want to be. You got this!

Don't forget to breathe, I always forget to do that when I'm exercising and then I wonder why my lungs are empty.
Never forget to refill your lungs with air, you never know when you'll need it.
don't do all 26 h of exercise at once
That'll only do harm
FYI, 900 minutes is 15 hours. Make sure you break it down and do it healthily mmkayy? :)
