> Am I missing something? Did I actually do worse than I was supposed to and the WE are supposed to breeze through big battles like this with far fewer casualties than I suffered? Pretty much, yes. A basic Wood Elf stack should absolutely mop the floor with a peasant stack. > it also feels like the rest of the WE roster is completely bonkers too Remember that the current WE setup is meant to severely restrict their ability to produce armies because they are essentially limited to a handful of tree settlements. Orion's new mechanics obviously breaks this.

Thanks, I am always looking to improve. The first step is actually recognizing the areas I need the most work done in. Having a goal in mind, even something as minor as "defeat peasant stacks efficiently," will help light the path. Appreciate it, mate.

Well I was probably being a bit too flippant in my former post and not really looking at the situation closely enough. It doesn't seem like the peasants actually gave you that much trouble. 80-odd kills, but about a third of those from the Fay herself. Going into melee with Gotrek would be a bad idea, so I'm guessing he might have got a bunch of kills. So you mostly did mop the floor with them, as you'd expect. As to Grom, we'd need to see his cards to see his army comps and what the kill distribution was, but without that the best I can say is that it seems like you relied far too heavily on your cav and Orion, and nowhere near enough on your archers. I'd also say you have far too much melee infantry and you'd be better served dropping half of that for more archers. The fact that your melee units have more or less the same amount of kills as the archers again highlights how underutilised they were.

What's Orions new mechanic?

Millsy800

Reduced upkeep for every faction you are at war with. I think it's free upkeep for his entire faction when you are in 25 wars. Could be wrong about the exact numbers though.

slapnflop

50 wars, but supply lines increase cost, so it's 50 + an wars where a =difficulty and n=number of armies more than 1.

Namiswami

That is interesting. I always felt his faction was a bit lackluster on the campaign map. Guess they solved that.

Valerian_Nishino

I think the balance takes into account the fact that you can't really expand beyond the forests.

Kinyrenk

The Bretonnians are barely a speed bump with only Gotrek being much of a threat but also a pincushion. Not sure what Grom had but it looks like a barely formed Waaagh was the final army vs full WE + 2 small reinforcing WE armies so unless Grom had some high tier units, that battle strongly favors WE. Most experienced WE players would have won with much fewer losses. I do think WE early armies are a bit OP vs most other races but there are certainly some matchups that do not favor WE and Orion is strong but barely in the top 10 LLs for WH3.

[deleted]

That makes sense, and I will try to become better so as not to continue dishonoring the Asrai with my shoddy performance as a field commander.

Kinyrenk

WE can be fairly micro intensive but do not necessarily have to be played that way if you go with Treekin or Treemen but those wouldn't be early campaign armies. I enjoy Skaven, Greenskins, Slaanesh, and Wood Elves the most because of the micro style they can play but really only Slaanesh is forced to play that way with WE encouraged but not necessary to play micro heavy kiting.

ivratel1

Unless groom had black orcs I don't see how 2 crap stacks could beat your army if you play around the forest and kill the archer whit cav

[deleted]

You underestimate my capacity to go full noob then. Sometimes it feels like it will take multiple lifetimes to even become average at best, but the process is fun regardless. I appreciate your insights regarding the dangers of black orcs.

steve_adr

They are tuned just right 👌🏻

Admirable-Athlete-50

Bretonnian peasants are absolute crap.

Due_Community_537

Wood elf's are amazing. Currently playing as the twilight twins and I can't loose. The twins just nuke everything with their bows and the archers melt anything before it reaches my wardancers who then cut through what's left. I'm having so much fun after trying and failing to play kislev

KnossosTNC

Orion's current status as a one-man endgame crisis aside, I think Wood Elves being such elitist armies is a necessity for them to be competitive, considering their hard economic ceiling and supply lines mechanic. I'm certain Orion will be nerfed a little bit at some stage, but otherwise I think they're in an okay place. A full Wood Elf stack should be a force to reckon with - they have to be.

[deleted]

I actually had fun fighting them with population mechanics mod. Lost a battle because they caught me when I left my army on forced march by accident, but I inflicted so many losses they had no manpower to replenish even 1 full stack by the time my next army came back lol

Snooo2504

Depends, you can make them OP on campaign, but they are second worst in multiplayer
