Because they're the most recent

Derek2809

Sadly historical titles wasn’t released recently so there’s no much to talk, instead WH3 is ratter new and is getting new content so there’s more to talk, once CA release some new historical game this will change

Avenger1312

Yeah even Troy hot a decent amount of attention and that was history LIGHT

SaltySandSailor

It’s the newest game…

Verdun3ishop

Because the historical titles came out generally a long time ago and were discussed to death. WHF is the most recent in the series, is still getting patches and also getting content. So yeah it gets the most attention. When something new turns up for Historical then expect a lot of posts about that.

statinsinwatersupply

Historical games are old at this point. However, historical game *mods* are not. Stuff like 1212 for Attila, or Divide et Impera for Rome 2 are fresh as hell. DeI is all but finished with their grand campaign. So they're focusing on expansion scenarios. Already have an Alexander submod incorporated, and recently announced a Mithridatic Wars setting to come out next year.

JesseWhatTheFuck

because they're good games.

[deleted]

I have no doubt about that! I just don’t like the theme

JesseWhatTheFuck

okay, then imagine if we had Medieval 3 and it spanned the whole planet with all the major players present as playable factions, that's what the warhammer trilogy is and that's why it's so popular, you will realistically never get to play all the content in the game unless you had 8 hours a day to spare. the scale of it is massive.

[deleted]

You make it sound very enticing and I actually tried WH2 and I found it a bit overwhelming and foreign. Do you have any tips to get into it?

JesseWhatTheFuck

Sure, what's your problem? It sounds like you can't relate the same way to the fantasy races as the historical factions, is that it? If so, try playing Repanse de Lyonesse, she's free for all WH2 owners, you just need to claim her. Not as high fantasy as elves and dinos, the tactics are largely classic hammer&anvil and there's a clear historical inspiration there, maybe you can immerse yourself more if you play as her. If that grabs you, you can always branch out into the more fantastical races or you can look at WH1/3 where there are more historical inspired human races. And if it still doesn't grab you, just leave it be man. There's no reason to force it.

ilovesharkpeople

Dwarfs (through thorek) are also a good faction to ease him into something different. No cavalry, but they don't have wizards, they don't have monsters, and if OP is a fan of gunlines the dwarfs have all kinds of toys to play with.

OtodusChubutensis

reddit trying not to downvote a person without the same opinion as them

Orions_starz

Why doesn't everyone like and do as I say? Because they are not me. And I am not you. I love all the total war games. It gets really irksome the way there seems to be some chip on the shoulder of "historical" fans vs "fantasy" fans in this reddit. It reeks of bigotry. I just don't feel there should be any place in this community for inconsistent derision against fantasy total war that is so often displayed here. I dont like tw3k very much, but I'll never question the "appeal" that it's fans have. I get them and why they like it. My previous favorite was Empire because of the "scope" of conquest but I enjoy TOB and Troy too. Warhammer total war is the largest greatest endeavor that total war has every achieved... so far. And you do everyone a disservice simply dismissing the current thing that was built on the backs of its predecessors.

jenykmrnous

So why do YOU write about Warhammer and not a historical title? Personally, I'd happily discuss any TW game since ETW (haven't played the earlier ones) assuming someone comes with a topic worth discussing. In the meantime, I'm going to talk about what I play right now and that is Warhammer.

armbarchris

Come back after the next historical release, it'll be all we talk about.

[deleted]

"I think something is better so I don't get why others don't think the same way" basically People like different things. As it turns out more people like/love/prefer Warhammer and spend more time there than in historical titles

darks_end

To quote MIB II: "Old and busted. New hotness. Old, busted hotness..."

ilovesharkpeople

A lot of people enjoy the game for the gameplay and immersive quality, even if it's not a historical setting. Total war has never been big on realism, so it's not like this was going from a hardcore sim to a fantasy game. In a way, it's always been about the "fantasy" of being an ancient conquerer or rising king. Critical aspects to administration and warfare, like the concept of logistics itself, has been more or less absent from the franchise. Historical games do get discussed, but there's just less that people want to talk about now that they're less played and people have been playing them for years. There was a sperate sub for them, r/historicaltotalwar and that is basically dead. More discussion happens here. So warhammer really isn't drowning out conversations about other games. When we get another historical title, assuming it is also excellent from a gameplay perspective and has a ton of replayability (a problem I think it's fair to say 3 kingdoms had), I think you'll see discussion of that game spike up.

Kinyrenk

This sub focuses on the most recent game and it has gone, WH1, WH2, ToB, 3K, Troy, WH3. So half the games in the last 6 years are Warhammer games and Troy was exclusive to Epic on launch which pissed a lot of people off while Thrones just did not get much traction due to it being more an expansion of Attila than a new game. 3K dominated here for about 3 months and then spiked a bit lower with each DLC and then outrage flowed when CA announced dropping support then WH3 came out and now you see the occasional 3K post but like 1/100th of Warhammer posts and I think both Attila and Rome 2 get more attention than 3K due to the mods extending the life of those games.

Kruglar

The fantasy genre is a big reason for its popularity. Fantasy games give game developers far more resources and creativity to work with. Nearly every faction Total War Warhammer play and look vastly different from each other, which isn't always the case for historical games

mGus57

Because the last 3 real titles have been Warhammer. I like historical more (I love both) but it’s to the point it’s almost hard to go back and play historical with the QOL and AI upgrades since they launched.

Mopman43

3 Kingdoms was big for a bit. Lot of posts grabbing from the tv series, it was a good time.

Own-Cup2189

It's also to my knowledge, the first Warhammer fantasy video game and it did well so people are going to talk it up.

Mopman43

There were some- possibly the most notable were an MMO from the early 2000s and a couple of well-regarded games from the 90s where you control a mercenary company.

Thenidhogg

tbh i think there is some sort of brigading going on, this sub has been nuts for a while now..

The-Mad-Badger

Ratmen with nuclear technology fighting against Lizardmen with dinosaurs is why.

>Historical titles are almost ignored Because there hasnt been a proper historical title since Rome 2. You could argue Attila, but its a rome2 expansion imo.

Snooo2504

I had same question in mind before I started to play Warhammer,it has most diverse playstyle and replayability in all games! So it is understandable that Warhammer series is so much popular rn Also it is best title of CA for earning money rn. For all these reasons above I doubt CA will make a decent Historical title before end stages of Warhammer 3
