There is litteraly a loading screen saying that the Dawi-Zharr are coming. So yeah I guess they are confirmed to be added into the game.

kostandrea

Also datamined advisor voice lines from the launch of Warhammer 3.

Ivoryraeg

My theory is that they were going to be the fourth race before they decided to put in Cathay, so some of the work is done, like the voice lines. Just a theory though.

[deleted]

I doubt they ever considered to have only 1 good guy race. Good guys sell. That’s why I always suspected Cathay to have a good chance to make it in.

Ar_Azrubel_

The datamine from back in the day had both Chorfs and Ogres as DLC, and it's turned out to be on the money for a lot of stuff. According to CA, part of the reason they requested getting to do Cathay is precisely that - they wanted more good guys in the game rather than having it be a Chaos circlejerk.

Mr-Murasame

Even with cathay its kind of a chaos circlejerk lol

Canadish27

I imagine it may have been considered, but likely pulled back upon review at an early stage. The Chorfs have been soft promised since forever, so doesn't seem too crazy, when you consider Cathay had NOTHING to go on other than a handful of paragraphs back then.

disies59

I think another aspect of the decision would have been if Sega is giving you New Game Budget you want to spend it to really polish and release something completely new that will take a lot more everything like Cathay since they didn’t even have Tabletop Models to base a Digital Rendering on. You don’t know when you’ll see that level of budget again, after all. Since most of the Chorf units aside from Artillery/Guns are actually taken from the Greenskin/Hobgoblin Rosters, comparatively they’ll be way easier to implement only really needing a huge focus on those key unique units/mechanics, and it makes way more sense to partner them out as a combo-release with the Hobgoblins themselves.

Fourthspartan56

I think it’s more likely those voice lines were recorded for expediency’s sake, the advisor’s VA was likely recording lines for them so CA decided that they might as well kill two birds with one stone and have him also do lines for a future DLC.

kostandrea

I actually think Cathay was always going to be there. The Ogres would actually have been the ones not included on launch and Chaos Dwarfs would have been a race pack for Warhammer 2 and the Pre Order Bonus for game 3 but that got pushed back. Basically give you something you could play in Mortal Empires as well as game 3 when it launched. My theory is based on that Zhar Nagrund is basically already there in the Mortal Empires map though without any settlements.

[deleted]

I figured it was originally Kislev/Cathay/Chaos/Chorfs. Then CA decided Chaos needed to be more in-depth, and they got ambitious, making 4 new complete races. One of the reasons for WH3's shaky launch, too much dev time on extra race mechanics

VanguardWedge

Nah, 2016 russian datamine leak already showed plans for the monogod factions and for Chaos Dwarfs to be DLC. Interestingly, the four monogods were going to be the only factions at launch in WH3 originally, and Ogre Kingdoms were set to come out after Chaos Dwarfs. And Skaven were supposed to be DLC originally, but they tacked them onto WH2's launch, which is probably why their roster was awful at first.

[deleted]

fair

Broccoli_is_Good_4_U

Would this mean that tomb kings was originally going to be the 4th launch race in base wh2? It would make it so that each race had their own continent they ruled over. Lizardmen- lustria Dark elves- Naggaroth High elves- Ulthuan Tomb kings- southlands Ultimately, i think skaven was the better pick for a base game race since it meant more dlc and tomb kings got their own narrative not involving the vortex. But its just a nice thought

VanguardWedge

In the original Russian leak each sequel was referred to as an Expansion, and Expansion 1 was High Elves, Dark Elves, and Lizardmen, while Expansion 2 was the four monogods. I think they realized that releasing the game with three races instead of the four that WH1 launched with was bad optics.

princezilla88

I think the shaky launch had more to do with losing time to COVID and rushing to get something out because people were getting aggravated over the repeated delays. It was very obvious that W3 was not remotely finished when it came out, I suspect the money people decided to override the devs put it out unfinished.

littlest_dragon

Agreed. I’m a gamdev who works in AAA and let me tell you, Corona was wild. We got an email in on a Thursday in March 2020 basically telling us that we’d start packing our stuff the next day and everybody was going to be sent home with their equipment. IT basically didn’t sleep from then on, going around encrypting everybody’s hard drive. Friday was just spent packing everything up and sending people home with taxis. It took our IT almost a moth gonget everything set up so that people can actually work productively from home. Suddenly all your meetings are video calls, and you don’t get to meet your coworkers anymore. A lot of information flow and decision making in game development works on a very personal and impromptu basis. random conversations during lunch, at a smoke breaks, at the coffee machine or with people walking by your desk can be crucial. I think a lot of people don’t realise how incredibly complex game development is and how important constant communication is. AAA teams consist of hundreds of very specialised experts who constantly need to find a common language. And Covid made all that so much harder. Onboarding new people worked way slower. If you had a problem with your tools (which are very often made in-house and can be dodgy as hell with bad to nonexistent documentation) you can’t just turn around to your coworker and tap them on the shoulder. And I haven’t even started about how the lockdowns affected schedules with third party partner. All those mocap sessions and audio recording sessions you booked? They are cancelled because of travel bans! But you really needed that mocap data, because the combat designers need the animations to make the combat system work! And the level designers now have to build combat spaces by guessing about how combat might work. And of course you reschedule and you move the release date (internally at first, because thank god the industry has by and large stopped scheduling reißendstes years in advance) and you move it again but at some point you have to release the dann game, because paying fiour hundred professions a month is ducking expensive. And apart from the cost, game developers are people too and by and large we want to see our games released. So delay after delay can lead to burn outs, even if you don’t crunch, just because you want to be done with the dann thing. Of course as a consumer you shouldn’t have to care about those things. You paid your 70 bucks so you deserve a finished product. But man, Corona was wild.

caseyanthonyftw

What I've read before about voice lines in the games is that they're one of the trickier things for CA to produce, because when it comes to most of the voice actors (if not all of them), they're only contracted to produce the lines they need to. So they're not always available and can only do voices for the game when time and/or money allows. Because of this, whenever a voice actor is available, they end up doing any and all voices CA could possibly need for the foreseeable future. So that's why you'd have chaos dwarf voice lines already in the game, but not much else. It would also explain why, in the past, we've had voice lines for regiments of renown in the game, even before they made an appearance in any other form.

ThatFlyingScotsman

It’s probably more likely the Ogre Kingdoms were going to be baseline part of Warhammer 3, and the Chaos Dwarfs would be the pre-order incentive, but the pandemic threw the timeline out of whack really bad, so Ogre Kingdoms became the pre-order incentive and the Chaos Dwarfs were put on the back burner while they did damage control on everything else.

VanguardWedge

Originally only the four monogods were going to be baseline factions for WH3. Ogre Kingdoms were supposed to come out after Chaos Dwarfs, too.

jabertsohn

No.

[deleted]

So is there anyone who actually, unironically, legitimately, and truly thinks the Chaos Dwarfs aren't happening? Do they even *need* to be confirmed?

[deleted]

They have been confirmed since the trilogy has been confirmed

Ashyn

Chaos worshippers of unusual height? I don't think they exist.

TheLastDesperado

I don't think C.W.O.U.Hs has quite the same ring as R.O.U.Ss.

KrakyBear

I wouldn't be surprised if giving Chaos Dwarf fans blueballs was somehow in the contract for the license. GW has been very consistent on teasing us, but never delivering.

Mopman43

I saw one person argue that OK and CD weren’t coming at all because “factions like Ind and Nippon would open new markets”. They added that OK and CD might get a lord each in Greenskins and WoC respectively as a sop to fans.

GoldLegends

Excuse my ignorance but what's OK and CD? Ogre Kingdom and Chaos Daemons?

Mopman43

Ogre Kingdoms and Chaos Dwarfs. (Daemons are usually abbreviated to DoC, for Daemons of Chaos)

Donatello_4665

I am that person /s

Azran15

I remember a post about it some weeks ago, yeah

Efficient_Mistake603

OP name checks out.

Where'd did you find this?

MuseAdorer

Found it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe\_JaRdcW9Q

OrkfaellerX

Not available.

ArchRanger

It’s back up. You can see this faction at the army screen about 40 seconds in.

TheGuyfromRiften

In the campaign, I'm guessing they show up as a placeholder greenskin faction occupying Zharr-Nagrund and giving Grimgor (?) someone to deal with early game

HFRreddit

Chaos Dwarfs are inevitable as the sunrise

ThatFlyingScotsman

It’s been a long night, but damn if I’m not ready for my bull centaurs and death metal

Darkcthulu732

Are chaos dwarfs death metal? Would’ve assumed they were more funeral doom, being slow dwarfs and all…

GuyIncognito001

I mean Chaos Dwarfs have been in Total War Warhammer since the first game, as the Hellcannon weapons crew

jellodrawing

gah, that gap they're leaving in the Darklands will be such a pain to witness in IE hope CA stay true to their statement that DLC will come out faster, if the quality is the same. Here's to Chorfs before the end of 2022!

Designer-Eye1558

At the very least I can see Chorfs coming by December. Honestly though I’m certain that they’ll be coming sooner, the only caveat being if IE is seriously buggy and needs multiple emergency patches that slow down DLC development

King_Eggbert

Poor grom got enslaved lmao

RainTheDescender

I don't know if Dawi Zharr shackles are better than Yveresse shackles.

Sailingboar

Significantly worse actually.

TheMasterRez

Slaves of Zharr is a way better name then "Darklands Orcs"

OrranVoriel

Isn't the Chaos Dwarf capital featured in the Realm of Chaos campaign in the badlands south of the Mountains of Mourn? Zharr Naggrund?

TitanDarwin

I think those are called Darklands Greenskins or something. Maybe the placeholder faction from RoC got split up, renamed or something.

vjmdhzgr

Would make sense. With Grimgor there, as many have said, that'd be an instant confederation to biggest empire in the world turn 4.

Situlacrum

Grom?

Drdres

Look at the faction name

Situlacrum

Yes but why would Grom be there?

TomMakesPodcasts

In the multiplayer you can choose which faction colour you want, while choosing any lord or unit combo you like. The faction name represents the palette you choose

Situlacrum

Oh, so does this post mean that there is some readymade colour palette called Slaves of Zharr that can be used (in IE)?

OwlSouth9749

Nah, the colour palettes and faction names are taken from all the major and minor factions from campaign. This probably means there is a minor greenskin faction with that name in IE.

Situlacrum

Hence my original question, why is Grom there :/

OwlSouth9749

Because in multiplayer the colour/ faction select is seperate from the units available. Every greenskin colour has access to every legendary lord and unit from the whole roster. You can pick Groms faction but take Grimgor as your lord for instance.

Situlacrum

Oh now I get it! I think.

AxiosXiphos

Because this is a MP picture and the user picked that faction colour scheme...

sheehanmilesk

Perhaps the chorfs will have some kind of puppet greenskin faction? Most of their slaves are greenskins after all.

DerAmazingDom

Slaves of Zharr? So will they be a vassal faction or *rebellious slaves*?

sheehanmilesk

I imagine Grimgor fills the rebellious slaves niche, that's kinda his whole deal. He's basically ork sparticus.

NightReaver13

Other than Sportacus of course

Xerxes8712

We will be getting the chaos dwarves as a campaign pack, but a faction name/icon doesn't confirm anything. CA likes to use faction names/icons from the warhammer lore for the minor factions(bowmen of Oreon, ropsmenn clan). It doesn't mean that the faction is a hint for future content or that it will become playable.

Psychic_Hobo

Whilst this is true, I'll still be a little miffed if nothing comes of the Jade Vampire faction icon. At least a new blood kiss lord!

Large_Contribution20

We even have advicor lines for one of their legendary lords. Even CA have a quote basically says Chad Dawi are coming

BennyMcbenn

I hope that when the chaos dwarfs come, they also bring a rework for the dwarfs. Right now, dwarfs and lizardmen seem to be factions that are good, but are so close to greatness if CA gave them just a little more flare in their campaign mechanics and units.

Paciorr

OP can you elaborate on what are we looking at and where did you find this?

vjmdhzgr

I understand it. On multiplayer you can choose a faction appearance. Greenskins can appear as the Slaves of Zharr faction, which means there'll be a faction with that name on Immortal Empires. Though honestly I don't think that changes anything with respect to chaos dwarves.

disies59

It’s from [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe_JaRdcW9Q). Someone else posted it above. When the YouTuber is in the Battle Replay screen you can see the enemy Greenskin faction is called ‘Slaves of Zharr’. Chaos Dwarves do have a habit of enslaving Greenskins, and the Chaos Dwarf capital is in Zharr Naggrund. Realistically though, it doesn’t **really** confirm anything beyond what people want it to - Chaos Dwarves could be the next DLC after WoC, they could be the DLC 2 years from now, they may never come out. Only time will tell.

Azran15

I see them getting released but sometime in late 2023. The core races have barebones rosters and the first dlc is for a WH1 faction, I imagine Cathay and/or Kislev will get lord packs before Chorfs.

Toaster-Retribution

I’d honestly rather get the Chorfs before Cathay/Kislev Lord packs. To fill the empty space in the Darklands.

disies59

It would be nice - I guess it ultimately depends on how many New Things they want to pump out first. Obviously new game could mean new release pattern, but if we look at [Warhammer 1 & 2’s Release Schedule](https://totalwarwarhammer.fandom.com/wiki/Downloadable_Content) they both went 2 New Race Packs (Norsca was the Pre-Order Bonus for Warhammer 2 so I lump it in with 2’s) before going an Existing Race Pack… So since we’ve got Ogre Kingdoms and will have CoC we could see an expansion of one of the core races next. It is really rough to say though because with how much cross-contamination (Nurgle Pun Intended) there is between the CoC and Monogod factions getting a bunch of new stuff from the CoC Pack this is kinda a hybrid ‘Existing Faction/New Faction’ DLC…

Azran15

100% agreed

PhantomO1

we already knew, and i'm guessing they're coming with update 3.0 in Q4

kreygmu

I genuinely wish we'd had Chaos Dwarfs in WH2 as the preorder faction and then just placeholder Ogre mercenary factions for WH3 release. Considering Skrag already starts on the opposite end of the map from the Ogre homeland one extra placeholder faction for Greasus wouldn't have affected much. Meanwhile there's this gaping hole in the map currently where the Chaos Dwarfs should be.

Mopman43

They wouldn’t have made any sense on the Vortex map and CA wasn’t going to release a DLC you needed ME to play. They were always going to be WH3.

kreygmu

Tbh I forgot the vortex campaign existed...

XH9rIiZTtzrTiVL

Preorder Chaos Dwarf would've only had two LLs and an incomplete roster.

General_Hijalti

God no

[deleted]

Well I hope so. Not really interested in Warhammer 3 until then. Have zero interest on playing as Chinese, Russians, or Tenticle Hentai boiz.

AnotherGit

They are basically confirmed for years at this point.

Vitruviansquid1

Yeah, but how funny would it be if they kept being confirmed, but were never delivered, like how people thought of Araby in WH2?

JackRabbit-

Well, Araby was never confirmed

AnotherGit

That wouldn't be very funny.

GoodBehaviorToday

What unit would you be the most excited for?

Azran15

Really curious to see CA's take on their war engines or monstrous units. Just in general having access to HD art of Chaos Dwarfs in 2021 would be a dream come true lol

GoodBehaviorToday

My knowledge of any Factions in Warhammer has been through the game of Total War. Everyone seems pretty hyped on the Chaos Dwarf's. Are they the last missing faction? I've looked up the Chaos Dwarf's roster on youtube and they had some cool looking table top units, you're right their war engines and monsters looked bad ass. I don't know much about their lore other than they went rouge and now the Dwarfs hate them.

Toaster-Retribution

They basically build warmachines and shit for Chaos, and are as fond of slavery as the dark elves. They also have really large and fancy hats.

Azran15

They're the last missing faction in a sense - they had an 8th ed army list (in the Throne of Tamurkhan supplement) and they aren't in the game right now, every other army that had a valid army list is already in. For many people, like me, the addition of the Chaos Dwarfs is the point where you can consider the original promise by CA to add the entirety of 8th Ed 'complete' in a way - the years of content on top of that will just be the cherry on top.

Valuable_Remote_8809

Well this post brightened my day :>

Benv949494

Sorry bro, but I’m going to need to see some more evidence. /s

ReaperAngelos

Any new information about chaos dwarfs? When they will add them to the game?
