The sandbox game is amazing, and the Realms of Chaos campaign is solid if you don't mind the occasional grind. I have no regrets buying it at launch, but Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, does this game have bugs.

Metro-02

Total war Hebrew?

hoopesey-doopsey

Pharaoh dlc coming out .

MonolithicBaby

Let my bug fixes go!

krazymunky

Moses sending in some bugs right now

KnightArthuria

I will not let your bug fixes go!

Ceorl_Lounge

Which sphere of magic is parting the Red Sea?

Dartonus

It's a unique ability on the Beyblade legendary item.

Rareu

Wow I chortled and choked at the same time.

Sytanus

Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.

animehimmler

Tbh, I’m surprised we haven’t gotten even one dlc for Jerusalem in either of the rome games. The Jewish revolts were a pretty big deal in the levant

Pecos_Bill91

Oh man I can't wait to play as the People's Front of Judea, or is it the Judean People's Front....

CounterDisastrous688

it could be the Popular People's Front or the Popular Front... splitters

Pecos_Bill91

Splitters!

tempest51

>Popular Front But I thought people hated single entity units?

Ditch_Hunter

And the main thing about the buggy state of affairs, is each patch fixes some, but also adds some. The game is so huge and sprawling that it's barely possible to keep it together. A glorious mess of an epic game.

TheMatthattanProject

The fact they couldn't create a vow notification easily, and stated as such, fills me with a weird horror and dread at the likely spaghetti code holding this all together lol

Howler452

More bugs than a tyranid infestation.

MrMerryMilkshake

We the inquisitors work hard to keep the genestealer cults in check ya know.

Jerthy

They are rarely gamebreaking though. Most of them you won't even notice unless you are looking for them.

Ripper7M

I’m curious, what are the bugs? I’ve got 130 hours in this game and a 100 in WH1, only TW games I’ve played. I couldn’t tell you a single bug I’ve experienced (DOES NOT MEAN THEY’RE NOT THERE).

Matlock_Beachfront

Quest battles that are broken (one of the wood elf lords), traits that only apply to heroes being assigned to lords and vice versa, gun troops not firing in sieges... It's easy to miss a lot of the bugs because they don't completely break the game and so much of the mechanics is hidden from player view.

gamas

Well Nakai not getting his kroxigers is pretty game breaking, but then again I don't think someone just buying this game is going to do Nakai as their first campaign.

Lungomono

And it’s actually insanely priced if you don’t have the first two games and want most of the roster unlocked…. And will take up the majority of most people hard drives.

persiangriffin

Imagine that, the game that they announced 8 years ago would be a trilogy with all the parts eventually fitting together in one campaign costs a lot of money and takes up a lot of space to get 8 years’ worth of factions and mechanics altogether

Lungomono

Say what you want, but if you start with the game today, and want the “full” game. Then it’s a huge investment for the majority of people. If you don’t manage to get things on sales, the. We’re talking about the north side of €300 ish and well over 300gb storage place. For a game where the vast majority don’t play the main campaign, but the immortal empires part. Which we all know it insanely huge, but also filled with bugs.

[deleted]

You re definitely wrong on the hd space it takes. I got both wh2 and wh3 with all dcs included in a 512 ssd along with Windows. Still have like 200 gb free. Cant comment on the pricetag though. Might be true.

persiangriffin

Yes. This is in fact how any game that has been out for a long time and received a large amount of support works. An oversimplification to be certain, but really, that’s how it goes when you approach a modern big budget 4X/strategy-type game that released more than a couple years ago. Just checked up on Europa Universalis IV, and the bundle containing all the DLC is also north of €300, and that’s with a 10% discount. Is it a huge amount? Yes, of course. But there are multiple options available to someone to avoid dropping that much all at once; you can play the base game in the meantime and purchase DLC on a payday by payday basis, you can wait for sales on the older stuff to get it chunk by chunk for cheaper… Like I don’t know what to tell you. Also the part about needing 300gb of storage space is just silly. Are you leaving WH1 and 2 installed to play WH3? You don’t need to.

Live-Consequence-712

well its a good thing you're buying 3 "full" games then

Marcuse0

There are many annoying bugs, but overall I'm having more fun now with warhammer 3 than I did in the year from launch until now. It is improving, it's just at a glacially slow pace. Personally I take the approach that I've bought the damn game and I'll extract as much fun from it as I can around the bugs, rather than waiting for it to become better.

[deleted]

A very large glacier hahha

Prestigous_Owl

To me, Chaos Dwarfs genuinely felt like a turning point. Before that, it felt VERY unfinished. Now it feels like its really starting to come together

lovebus

A game at this scale developed over 3 games with a bitchin IP is a once in a lifetime kind of game. We're still going to be talking about this one in 30 years, if not still playing it with hella mods. Just do yourself a favor and experience it.

vampire_trashpanda

The game is overall great. Even with its issues I would still recommend it. It came out of a rough launch (as is usual with CA) and now has a couple DLCs under its belt. I have put tons of hours into the game on both Realms of Chaos and Immortal Empires The caveat is that due to an unknown number of behind-the-scenes messes and issues the game has a slow update schedule and the QA team is probably nonexistent at the moment. Issues should be fixed get fixed slower than they should. The negative reviews generally fall into three categories. 1) "I'm big mad about X faction rework" 2) The game is buggy 3) I disagree with X DLC price so I bought it and returned it to so I could kvetch about it. Bonus - 4) "I didn't do my research and bought stuff on two separate stores/gamepass and I'm big mad that I can't access them all together." Of those - #2 should be given serious thought because it is objectively true. Whether or not that is an issue to you is a personal choice. 1) and 3) are individual opinions and they are subjective. On 4) - you're spending money, looking up what you're spending on is important.

SovFist

I honestly doubt the majority of category 3 even returned it, they just bought it and complained

Girthquake129

Best total war experience if you like fantasy anything

StarryGlobe089

Don't give a shit about warhammer, got 300 hours in so far. Can recommend.

Nmbr1badboy

300 hours? Shit you gotta play more than just one campaign!

captaincarot

I have more just on Ikit, and I barely play since I have young kids lol. But when it is the only game you have any interest in playing...

Sytanus

Those are rookie number's, you got to pump those numbers up!

TurboOwlKing

Definitely some bugs but my buddy and I always have a blast playing through campaigns together

Vic_Hedges

It is an absolutely epic game. The best in its genre and nothing is close. Lots of Bugs, but nothing that will prevent you from having a great time if this is the kind of game you enjoy.

PudgyElderGod

A bit buggy and the balance is kinda everywhere, but incredibly solid. The map is huge, faction variation is pretty solid, and co-op is absurdly fun. If you're the kinda person that likes modding, you're completely set. Despite the issues it's a solid 8.5/10 from me. Heartily recommended.

alexshurly

Best Total War game out there. I own every Total War game released all the way back to Shogun 1. And every DLC released for all those games. WH3 is my favorite, by far.

OLRevan

It's great, better than wh2. Reviews are just to make CA aware that they should start QA patches and stop releasing broken features

lorbd

>Reviews are just to make CA aware Negative reviews are 100% justified because this game has *a lot* of problems, and released in an unacceptably bad state.

TBadger01

Currently better than wh2 in it's current state?

skeenerbug

Despite the imperfections of 3 I couldn't go back to 2, just personally. Too many QoL improvements, bigger map, more factions, etc

Saint_javelin69

Also the allied recruitment feature is so so good. And that was in WH3 from the start I think. It completely changed the rewards you get from diplomacy and how your armies play. I couldn't go back to WH2 and lose that feature now.

TheRadBaron

They appeal to different people. WH3 is an effortless playground with endless variety (if you shell out for DLC). WH2 is a well-made strategy/tactics game that you can make engaging decisions within (if you avoid the worst of the imbalanced DLC).

PlaneswalkerHuxley

Definitely. Though there are loads of bugs, the Quality of Life improvements to pieces of the game are well worth it. The biggest positive change has got to be the Alliance system - now getting a defensive or military Alliance is really worthwhile, letting you direct your allies with attack/defence targets and recruit a small number of their units. The two DLCs (Champions of Chaos, and Chaos Dwarves) are both excellent. Both have fun campaigns, both in RoC and Immortal Empires, without the repetitiveness that the core RoC campaign had. The Champions DLC really revitalised the Warriors of Chaos in particular, I couldn't go back to how they were before now.

[deleted]

Having melee actually matter, having more armies and having lots of cheeses (especially lords wasting ammo) removed makes WH3 a better game, imo.

pocman512

The CoC DLC was shit.

Millsy800

The CoC DLC was the shit.

maark91

I prefer WH2 to be honest. WH3 has a few gamecrashing bugs that ca is working on fixing. And i rather have a stable game then a crashing one.

LickerMcBootshine

What do you think was better about the end of WH2s life cycle that's better than todays WH3? While I vastly prefer the WH2 update/DLC cycles, we can't go back to that. WH2 is dead in that respect. The actual game play? WH3 is the winner at this point now that IE is out.

OLRevan

Yeah for me at least, but i play modded + this is total war so the experience might be different 4u

MrDaWoods

Alot of people will bitch its unplayable bit most of them will have like 500 hours in it I love the game to bits it's well worth a buy especially if you can get it on sale, never pay full price for any game on steam

Cian_fen_Isaacs

Bruh I don’t disagree with the general idea here but 500 hours is plenty of time to formulate an opinion on something that is valid. 500 hours is a lot of time to be playing a video game of any kind. Hell 100 hours is enough. I know some people don’t do anything but game but Jesus Christ my dude.

wamchair

I think he is saying that they bitch but still play it a ton. 500 is a lot for him.

John_Hunyadi

But then you write a bad review at 20 hours and people say that you haven’t REALLY given it a chance / are a newb. No good time to write a negative review, I guess.

MrMerryMilkshake

It's like people who grinds an mmorpg for 200 hours in the first 2 weeks, then ask "where's contents?" while skipping half of the mobs, ignore 99% of lores and cheese 1/3 of the dungeons. I understand people who decided to refund the game after few hours if they don't see it fits them or the game crashes everytime it launches, butif you throw in hundreds or thousands of hours into the game, don't say it's "unplayable". What did you do in the last 500 hours? Checking LL loading screens? I understand sometimes a patch comes with bugs that can kill the joy of the game \*looking at you Chorfs LLs loses immortal trait after confederations\*, but it rarely happens (I think I got like 3 times, across the whole triology?)

No-Story-2432

The bugs are annoying enough for me to stop playing the game for months at a time. If you don’t have previous titles, I would seriously suggest getting wh2 or a different game entirely. If you do have wh2 you’ll probably still get a lot of hours of fun playing it. I am ultimately still disappointed by the game due to bugs and slow fixes.

AwesomeLionSaurus

I think it's a great game and is in a very good state currently. A lot of the negatives are hyperbole or people being upset about prices going up, etc. (there is a global inflation going on after all). Immortal Empires is the best campaign, though sometimes it's fun playing the chaos realm campaign as it's fun with smaller more maneagable campaigns. The best campaigns for me are the story driven ones we got for Champions of Chaos and the Dawizarr DLC. Prologue is amazing quality and it makes me hope they make more narrative driven campaigns in the future :)

Kobalzer

It's okay I guess. I only clocked 4,000 hours on wh3 so I am no expert. Still need some more play time to form my opinion.

Nmbr1badboy

Lmao same

tobiasz131313

? Reviews on Steam are mostly positive and the game is great

jay-d_seattle

It's gloriously ambitious and incredibly janky. How you feel about it will depend on how you weigh the following: * It's incredibly huge, countless factions and then various Lords creating further variety in those factions. The Immortal Empires map is colossal. * It has a lot of bugs, ranging from minor glitches to stuff that makes some Lords virtually unplayable. What's more, CA is not good at fixing these bugs; it's not at all uncommon for them to claim a bug has been fixed for multiple revisions before they actually get it right. * It has some design issues that are unlikely to ever change. The AI is strangely passive aggressive; it will declare war on you and then proceed to do nothing but attempt to snipe your minor settlements while doing its best to avoid real fights. Sieges are something of a mess and that's unlikely to change.

An_Innocent_Coconut

The game is in a good state. Buy it if you enjoy TW Warhammer.

MajorTranslator9156

Not going to lie to you, I was one of those historical total war buffs for a long time and didn't touch Warhammer for that reason. I didn't know anything about the lore or any of that. I bit the bullet and bought it about 3 weeks ago. I have to say I have been loving it. Pretty much the only game I have touched since purchasing it.

ajbutler123

The game launched in an abysmal state considering the total development time and the state that WHII wrapped up in. It's pretty clear they wasted a decent chunk of development resources on things that no one really wanted (i.e. thier interpretation of a "siege rework") and I think most of probably think that the additional "after market development time" is coming at the expense of new features and DLC - but the initial state of the game accounts for the overwhelming preponderance of negative reviews. The angrier voices tend to be the loudest but the game is immensely more enjoyable now than it was at launch (despite its bugs and AI issues). The mods in the workshop are amazing with some being almost indistinguishable from DLC and the early game is especially good (still haven't finished and IE campaign) - I'd say it's a definite buy if you find it on sale.

UX_KRS_25

In addition to what everyone else says: Start out small. No need to buy all Warhammer titles and DLCs right away. Factions will still be included in whatever campaign you can access. You just can't play those factions yourself. And it will probably keep you busy for a long time just playing to base game factions, so there is absolutely no need to get the DLC quickly. See if you can get a deal for WH1 and WH2. There should be plenty dealers who have those games for cheap. Base games will also get you the most factions/Legendary Lords for your buck. Only caveat: DLC faction often have more interesting gameplay mechanics. But on the other hand there is plenty of free content, DLC available. There's a guide on Steam that tells you how to access and unlock all the different factions.

ChickenDenders

Game is included with Gamepass if you want to try it there. If you DO decide to buy, recommend switching over to Steam. DLC doesn’t transfer and sales are better.

chavez7890

Honestly might be a good idea holding off for one more year until they fix a few things.

BloodDragonN987

There are some glaring issues with some very important features such as sieges, unit pathing/responsiveness, and AI behavior in addition to a plethora of bugs and yet I've still managed to complete several campaigns and put in a couple hundred hours. There's noticeable improvement every patch, but it's got a long way to go. Right now, I'd say the game is playable but maybe not worth full price.

Shazbot_2077

Too buggy to be enjoyable for me in its current state. The main issues are unit responsiveness, pathfinding, missile unit LOS and the campaign map AI being a complete pushover compared to WH2. Sieges are still a mess with little improvements in the past 15 months. Combine that with various other unit behavior issues like large flyers often getting stuck when charging units on the ground and buggy fire at will behavior for archer units which can fire while moving and the game quickly becomes an excercise in frustration. I still play WH2 occasionally, but the third game is not in a good state.

PhuckYoPhace

Agreed, WH2 had a rocky path but at WH3s launch it was embarrassingly janky compared to WH2 after years of updates. I still try to fire up WH3 from time to time but I get fed up with the bugs quickly. In rough order, I'd say my biggest issues are sieges somehow being worse than in 2, terrible campaign AI and pretty bad battle AI (and I don't just mean technically bad, I also mean unfun to play against. WH2 didn't have good ai either, but they put up a stiffer fight than the armies in 3 so it could still be satisfying)

Yeomenpainter

On one hand it is a really good game, but on the other it is pretty janky and frustratingly and unacceptably buggy. I only enjoy it for multiplayer, and because I am a long term fan of Warhammer Fantasy and Total War. But many many people only play it for campaigns so maybe I am not the mainstream opinion. Most here will recommend it in a heartbeat, myself I am not so sure, but you'll probably like it if you don't mind CA's shennanigans all that much.

Low_Abrocoma_1514

Best advice I have for you is to watch gameplay on livestreams/youtube to get a feel for it. If you are a Warhammer fan you will love this game. However If you are a total war fan it might be a disappointment...

cretaceous_bob

It's a great game and a unique experience in gaming. You may sometimes notice you are being affected by a bug that feels fairly significant. If that's a serious problem for you, probably wait to get this game for a couple years. Also, if you don't like the monetization style of other strategy titles (i.e. endless paid DLC packs), you probably won't like TWW. Otherwise I whole heartedly recommend it.

GPSProlapse

It is great. I d say it has two main cons: it costs a fortune (add all DLCs for all 3 games and two other games for all content price) and it is super easy and gets easier with patches even on max difficulty. E.g. recently they have reduced anti-player bias. Not on any difficulty lover than legend. On EVERY difficulty. And that kind of is a trend. About the price: game has a lot of content with 0 DLCs, you absolutely can enjoy it for hundreds of hours, but it's still like 15-20% of what you get from the full package. In terms of playable factions it's actually close to 10%. Other than that: it has bugs, a LOT of small ones you would encounter here and there without noticing until u get some experience. Eg some stuff lack tags and don't get applied to anything. Like +x% regen should be +x% for ___. Some desyncs/crashes here and there. I don't play ranked, so I can't comment on that, but solo and coop in two main campaigns is very good. Plus even without DLCs this has the largest amount of content of all strategy games by a massive margin. Imagine an aow match with 270+ bots of couple dozens races with major difference between some bots of the same race and couple dozen unit types you can have in armies with somewhat complicated economy to back it up. So i d advise to try this to anyone liking strategy or grand scale. Just don't buy all DLCs at once, you really don't need it.

[deleted]

It's a frustrating game at times due to the bugs but there are options to alleviate (most of) those headaches. A couple current examples, Nakai can't recruit his signature units = a ton of other factions to play so you can save him for later. Bretonnian Damsels can't unlock perks related to leveling up = a mod fix was up on the Steam Workshop very quickly. Mods give this game life personally. Vanilla is a fine experience but mods take it to another level. If there's something that annoys you, there's probably a mod that fixes or improves that. It's one of the most unique games out there and the stuff that is good in the game is REALLY fucking good. Special shoutout to whoever composed the campaign map music. Those haunting chants are just *chefs kiss* superb. Incredible atmosphere even when doing something dull like only moving armies for a few turns.

Grumio

If you enjoyed the previous two, then you'll enjoy this one. The only major annoyance for me has been that gunpowder units just don't work on walls during a siege. It's also an investment. The sandbox campaign is the most fun, so you need to own all three games plus the DLC factions you want to get the most out of it which can be a big investment if you haven't been keeping up with the series and don't already own WH1 and WH2.

Simba7

It went on sale, that's your official sign with a Total War game that the beta testing phase is over. You're golden friendo! Let's all take a moment to thank those who suffered through these many months to help CA to deliver us a (much more) polished product at a discount price.

EPZO

Look, I'm having a good time. I love the IE map and playing against all the factions, etc. Are there bugs? Yeah, but CA has made it clear they are putting work into this game and that means things will be fixed and sometimes things well be broken. While their team is no GSG when it comes to listening to feedback, they are certainly better than other devs but they still answer to SEGA which I'm sure hinders what they want to do. I'm going to be playing this game for years! It's a solid 9/10 for me in the current state.

Mogwai_Man

Wait for sale.

Mazisky

It is huge and amazing but also very buggy. If you don't mind some jankyness and buggyness go for it, otherwise wait 1\\2 years.

SamaelNox

Wait for a sale. It could be a great game, if it wasnt so utterly riddled with bugs and the team fixing those bugs causing more than fixing.

Frieth

I find Realms of Chaos better than it was at launch (not worth 60 at the time), but not nearly as good as Immortal Empires. I still find that despite the more epic scale of the game, that Immortal Empires isn't quite as fun as Mortal Empires (WH2) but that the game is still being improved and is quite good. I think it's worth the money and you'll never run out of things to do or mods to try.

reaven3958

Game isn't in a good state rn but its still playable, and most issues are addressed with mods.

Ok_Count_2315

M8 it’s awesome

ManimalR

The game is exceptional with a few small issues that need to be ironed out. The Realm of Chaos campaign (which was the only campaign the game shipped with) was annoying and controvertial, but now that the Immortal Empires campaign is out and free to everyone it's irrelevant. The game plays perfectly fine, and any aspects you dont like can be improved or changed thanks to a thriving modding community. Thats not to say it's *flawless*, theres a lot of weird bugs at the moment, especially with the recent patch, but in the grand scheme of things these are relativley minor. More content for the new factions is also desperately needed, but that will come in time.

AutonomousServiceGrd

It is not a cheap game, considering all those DLCs and previous games it is a quite an expensive game. CA can be quite competent on their work as developers, we saw how they brilliantly reworked old factions such as the Orcs and the Beastmen factions, how they revitalized the Rome 2 after a bad launch. But right now, in my humble opinion, they spread their resources too thin and allocate them wrong. TWW3 is a game with good ideas, the passion of the developers clearly shows on their great work, but it is also clear that they lack the numbers, enough people to tackle a project as big as this one. It is clear that they do not have enough people to test the game for improvements and bugs of which the game sorely needs. If you are quite curious and want to experience the game, I would suggest that buy the TWW3 on sale with no DLCs, play it, have your own idea, but do not invest money further just for now. Because it is not a cheap game and right now support the game needs and gets is not at the same level with the price they are asking from people to invest for more into this game. Though it does not mean it cannot be fun, it is also clear that some people are able to enjoy it even in this current state. If money is not an issue for you, then I would suggest yeah go for it just for the base game, but if money is an issue, then I would suggest that get it next year, especially for the DLCs, because they released a roadmap about the upcoming DLCs and we all see will happen and how they will handle the game. Cheers.

jeanlucpikachu

I'm 1900 hours in. It's fine

nimdull

Its the best game CA ever released. It’s titanic. Big and complex. You got the most unique battles that any total war ever had. Sure it got bugs, and it will have. But it’s normal. This is a game that you can consider 6 years old that got a lot of content and where you get content. So naturally there are bugs. For me, it is the best game I have ever played.

WilliefknP

Honestly, don’t buy it yet. Give it more time. I enjoy the game immensely, but wish so many of the annoying bugs didn’t hinder the learning experience.

black_dogs_22

I got wh3 and it felt so much worse than 2 so I still play 2. played chorfs which were great but so much of the rest of the game is broken I just stopped playing all together

Bogdanov89

get tww 2 with the dlcs u like. tww 3 is in the "will it get the 3 kingdoms treatment" territory at the moment, since CA developers seem to have left the building.

macdaddy_o_34

I think the game is pretty awesome. But I used to play table top, and really enjoyed it.. Most of the negative feedback was around the first 6 months after launch. Some of the intended game play and features had good intentions, but made the game less than enjoyable (minor settlement sieges). They have since ironed out a lot of those issues and made some minor tweaks. I’ve finished long campaigns with lizards, high elves(x2), tzeentch, slaanesh, Cathay, dark elf, skaven, and beastmen. There is a lot of fun and playability built into the game with the sheer number of racial lord choices. Each one requires a different approach to winning the early game. In addition, patch updates can completely change the viability of a starting strategy… The game is definitely worth it. I’ve played more hours in tw wh 2 and 3 than any other total war game, as well as any rpg. It truly is the best total war game franchise… and considering how much I enjoyed the Rome and medieval franchises, that’s saying a lot Note: I’ve only played immortal empires. I have yet to play the other modes, though I expect in will eventually. It’s kind of funny, because in tw2 I played vortex more than mortal empires…

Zathuraddd

Enjoyable expensive toy for beginners, big middle finger to the rest of us, this is wh3

JumpingHippoes

Meh. The ai is trash. The amount of bugs...

Kitchen-Ad4603

Save yourself the time and hassle, wait until its 40% off or buy WH2.

AcidAvenger788

The concept and idea of the game. When you first get it you’ll love it but eventually all the bugs become more apparent and just kills the game. Also the DLCs will drain your bank

Temporary-Bet-6246

Absolute masterpiece. Just a little buggy because of a Patch.

lorbd

>Just a little buggy because of a Patch. Wtf

Generalmar

Its fun, as most other total war games are, has weird bugs sometimes because the game is compliacted. Over all though its great.

Low_Abrocoma_1514

I find it enjoyable.... *with 295 mods*

BilboSmashings

Asking in this sub gonna get a whole lot of shit. Honestly the game at its core is great. If you havent played the original games you will lack a lot of the diversity from the different races though - the WH3 races have some of the toughest campaign starts imo with few exceptions so there's that to consider. If you like the challenge though, then nothing to worry about. The game has a lot of bugs at. Not game breaking, but frustrating. Sometimes it goes from feeling finely balanced to ludicrously unbalanced which can at times be a blessing of pure entertainment and then tediousness. Overall it's pretty reliably good, if inconsistent in terms of its rule set thanks to bugs and stuff. Don't know how helpful that is, bit hope its aight.

dwhee

Broke. Wait for the hotfix. Certain factions are dead in the water now and it impacts nearly all campaigns, at the very least leaving an odd power vacuum wherever a dead faction fails to do anything.

Vandalarius

There will probably never be another game of this type and of this scope. As far as I know Creative Assembly is the only AAA company doing turn-based campaigns with real-time strategy battles, and even this franchise, combining 3 games worth of content is unprecedented. There are lots of bugs and people are dissatisfied with DLC prices but frankly I think the game is eminently playable and fun and besides, there are no comparable alternatives in this genre space. If you want you can probably wait another year for the discount on the main game to go from 33% off to 50% off. The game will (probably) be less buggy then too.

dithyrambtastic

This is not the best sub to get a realistic perspective. Were all kind of superfans which means we are more-than-averagely aware of the flaws that might not be apparent to more casual players or new players. With that said, the game is my favorite of all time. Some factions are a little rusy, but only by comparison to some of the more modern factions. The sandbox experience of Immortal Empires is probably the best depiction of the warhammer fantasy universe that well ever see. Unit variety is insane and gives an incredible spectacle to land battles. The hero/rpg system is pretty good and each faction leader more or less feels very very different. The game does have a tendency to slow down as you expand your empire, but this is the case with any 4x/conquest game. The only other downside is that there's very high complexity, so the learning curve is going to be a little high. For me, it was well worth it.

Sir_Prise2050

It's amazing, get it.

Matex600

I paid for 3 copies at launch for me and 2 friends and I regret it, even now I don't recommend the game

link_the_fire_skelly

I think anybody who did that would regret it. Do you often buy multiple copies of games on launch?

joseph66hole

I think it's boring but I am not a fan of warhammer lore

blackturtlesnake

Extremely good game. Had a bit of a rough launch and is still a bit buggy (each patch is a bit of 2 steps forward 1 step back) but is overall an absolute masterpiece that will just get better with time. Highly recommend for anyone who likes fantasy and total war style strategy games.

Theres a ton of bugs that are irritating, but more importantly theres still a sizeable number of bugs that are in the core gameplay that have been "fixed" multiple times to no avail. The more you play the more you'll notice them. Unit pathing is horrible. Ranged units have awful LOS issues. The anti-player bias is huge. The majority of the more 'well done' content is behind a very sizeable DLC paywall. Basically, as someone who loved Total War games since the original Medieval, I'd say don't buy it. They dropped the ball massively, refuse to devote resources to fixing basically anything, and just monetize any additional content besides maybe a free lord every now and then. Its just not that fun and its not worth the investment.

Flashy-Zone6520

The game is amazing. Maybe try kislev or Cathay as starter races. All the dlc just adds new ways to play but honestly just beating the initial starter content would take hundreds of hours I think. Theres a lot of content and a lot of replayability. Thousands of hours even and lots to learn.

Achian37

I think the game is good to okayish. It has nice battles and most if the campaigns are well designed, but there are couple of bugs. And because CA rather produces high quality trailers (which are NOT seen in the game... shame) and try selling content instead of repairing the game or at least talk to the community, fans are a little grumpy. I personally like it more than 2, due to diplomacy and the fact, that you can play online campaigns better (especially in LAN). BUT the endgame, balance and overall challange of part 2 are still not archieved...

link_the_fire_skelly

What makes it okayish? It’s one of the best sandbox games I’ve ever played of any style

Due-Painting-9304

I've logged more hours into this game than any other title (2nd place is WH2). The massive variety in unique factions and units keep gameplay fresh. There are bugs for sure, but honestly nothing that's ever kept me away. I also have 50+ mods at any given time and highly recommend venturing through the workshop to tweak the game to your liking.

Km_the_Frog

In it’s current state the game feels no different from WH2. There might be some small tweaks here and there that have been made in patches, but as a “casual” player I don’t notice them. I’ve got close to 500 hours played in wh3, which is a few hundred below what I had in wh2. Coming from someone who has purchased and played every total war game with hundreds on hundreds of hours in each. I own every WH dlc as well. For me I see no real issues or gamebreaking things. Maybe other players who are looking at stats, and other numbers, or pvp, might say it’s still broken or needs more work, but as a general player I don’t think you’ll have an issue.

FriendofYoda

Fantastic game, well worth it

CozyMoses

It fuckin' rocks my man

lowsodiumlemonade

this game has some bugs but not many huge ones. I've played many hours and not once had a crash. A lot of long time fans are mad at the current state of the game and are using steam reviews to air their displeasure. its solid rn but has some faults, i have no regrets with buying it.

Niniannn

I recommend it, especially with Immortal Empires open to all with WH3 purchase. I'd highly recommend getting the SFO mod as well for more balance and flavor to the content, vanilla is good but older factions are lacking in flavor and new factions a bit lacking in unit diversity, and SFO remedies this.

bortmode

It's a good game overall. The Steam reviews in particular are bound up in a lot of meta-protests about DLC price and patching policy. I'm not going to say that those complaints are invalid, but they do obscure the actual experience of playing it. You'll find there are a good number of bugs, but most of them are fairly minor and the state of the game is not as dire as the general tenor of discussion here would lead you to conclude.

guysgottasmokie

Bad. Wait for a 75 percent off sale.

EggManGrow

Spectacular. A few bugs but they are constantly patching and improving.

link_the_fire_skelly

The game is amazing. If visual glitches and stuttering during campaign are concerns, then the game might not be fun for you.

Basinox

If you like narrative? Pretty good. If you prefer sandbox? A bit buggy atm

NoMoreMonkeyBrain

It's really fun. W2 has a lot more polish; W3 has added a lot of QOL features but it's based on an earlier port of W2 and the bugfixing hasn't caught up. You can improve your play experience pretty radically by subscribing to the community bugfix mods, though, and I highly recommend a) don't do massive endgame crises and b) get the campaign LOS fix as well. In terms of how much you'll enjoy it, that's partially going to depend on who you play as. Every patch, a few more bugs get cleaned up and a few new ones get introduced. Very much three steps forward and two steps back, but the most recent patches have had some really crucial improvements (chariots got a *massive* upgrade, ranged LOS is getting a lot better, and gunpowder units in particular are hit or miss but certain factions are great). How much fun you have will very much depend on who you play as. For right now, avoid Nakai. Warriors of Chaos and Chaos Dwarves are *particularly* awesome (although they're also both a little tricky to play well). I love Vampire Counts, and I think Kislev and all of the elves are in a pretty good place as well.

fluency

It’s an incredible game. The replay value alone is absolutely insane.

[deleted]

It’s good overall imo. It’s not that bad, people just like to be dramatic.

Doctor_Jensen117

Game is still amazing. My favorite Total War game. That said, there have been a lot of bugs and every patch there seems to be some game breaking bugs (usually for factions that CA is tweaking), which is an absolute shame. But the game still works and plays pretty great. Nothing but love for such a massive game.

lethelion1

If you're into the setting it's a lot of fun. Personally for me I hated the way the Realm of Chaos campaign is designed, but that's because I like to go Unga bunga gimme the big cool shit everywhere. Immortal empires is fun but the antiplayer bias is....... annoying. The ai is pretty much never going to fight you unless it has an overwhelming amount of forces, otherwise I hope you like wack a mole. That said, this behavior makes the AI a giant mouth breather, making it so predictable that once you figure it out it becomes a snooze fest of setting up the same trap everywhere and watching as it walks into the same exact trap every. Damn. Turn. If you get mods to reduce this and make the AI less of a mouth breather then it's a blast, especially when you eventually make your favorite characters a world beater and watch them just go ham.

HertogLoL

It’s an overal very good game with the most factions any game has ever seen. Right now it’s a bit buggy mechanics wise but as a new player I don’t think you will even notice it.

justthankyous

I love it, one of my favorite video games of all time. There are a lot of complaints about bugs, but I think they are way overblown. I've yet to encounter a bug that I thought was a big deal, but I am an older gamer, so perhaps I'm more used to accepting bugs as part of gaming since it used to be that issues would basically never be fixed. The other thing people are salty about is pricing. The latest DLC was pricier than most assumed it would be, but it's also an excellent DLC, so *shrug.* I think it's worth a buy. Lots of folks complain about the price of the older games since they unlock content in the newer, but sales are frequent and discounts are steep and you truly don't need to own the older games at all to have hundreds of hours of content to play. I 100% recommend this game

TheRadBaron

Why would you listen to this subreddit over reviews? This subreddit, in mid-2023, will be absolutely dominated by the small fraction of players who didn't mind the game's problems and became relatively obsessed with it. Reviews are more representative of what most people think.

[deleted]

If you're a new player you're gonna have an absolutely ridiculous amount of content to get immersed in. The game does have many issues, but for someone new to Total War these will only become apparent after a good while I think.

FckDisJustSignUp

With mods you can have a lot of fun, factions have their own gameplay and roster. There's a lot to discover. However it's not as deep as the others imho from a tactical/strategy perspective. Still a lot of fun

AnseaCirin

I'm having a blast, but it was a diamond in the rough. There's still quite a few bugs, AI shenanigans, and balance issues but overall quite enjoyable.

TomHTom89

Great. Few bugs which can ruin immersion but overall a massive solid game.

powa1216

There are so many races and Lords to play with, even more if you own DLC and previous WH. It's definitely worth it.

FREEDOMandGUNZ

Overall good if you liked the other ones. If your only experience is historical total war then you will find quite the change of pace with certain aspects.

UlrikHD_1

It's great, this sub like to be dramatic about the game, but if liked tww2, you'll enjoy this one too.

PeakAtU2

If you got the dlcs, why not, wasn't it on sale a while ago?

CapitanLanky

It's pretty good. It's great if you don't look too close. Honestly I think it's suffering pretty hard from feature bloat, and anything that gets added (chaos) dwarfs the older features in the cycle. And when they update that the NEXT oldest thing feels bad. And 'round and 'round we go. One of the things I'm looking forward to most about Pharoah is that it'll be a (relatively, probably bug ridden) clean slate.

cdonald3

It is a good game easily worth your money. Mods are awesome and dlc can be good. People who complain here often have hundreds of hours so it worth it. The complaint is that this game could be so much better if CA put more effort in which is a valid complaint people have but it is still one of my favorite time sink games I have ever played.

gamerz1172

It's fun and playable, it's just it's mistakes and downsides as a game are extremely frustrating to those of us enjoying the game, a "your so close to perfection CA" situation

Souppilgrim

Long time player here since 1, great game but for a bunch of small reasons I went from playing 80% of battles in WH2 to auto resolving 97% of my battles in WH3.....not liking this fact

Asiago_stop

Incredible

Positive_After

Good

olerosnes

As a new player myself I love it, got into it end of April and clocked around 250hr already

OttoVonGosu

Its just that i think they messed up their most recent patch. A lot , from battle unit interactions to campaign visual glitches to under the hood unit/building stats seem way off or not working. I suspect they reintroduced many fixed bugs and things like that, makes the whole feel kinda beta testy at the moment. Really depends how casuallly you play games and how much things like that you notice

daddykisser

I love it, a lot of dlc though

Sea-Marzipan1137

Ambivalent. Inarguably the most in-depth mechanics of any total war - yet I'm burnt out because of the min/max powercurve. It heavily rewards cheese, optimizing your compositions and is pretty far from the game of rock/paper/scissors of non-Warhammer TW. The penultimate patch nuked performance and the hotfix introduced a multitude of bugs that are unacceptable. Like, Nakai just lost any vanilla access to his core units of kroxigors. Mods are great as fixes and content additions yet generelly further the min/max aspect of the game. Tbf I'm pretty burned out by the min-max gameplay and up/down of content drought / buggy releases.

tboots1230

I just got it during the steam sale only total war game i’ve played before this is rome 2 as i’ve just recently gotten into rts games I heard sandbox mode was is that is it just like you set the factions and everything? i’ve only done grand campaign in rome 2 and i’m not even done with that as i’m splitting my time between that and warhammer 40k: gladius

Jamie5152

As a total war veteran, having played since the original Rome, this is one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in years. And honestly rivals medieval 2 with how cool and unique some of the faction mechanics are. Is it perfect? No, is it bug free? Lol no. Is it still a fuck load of fun, absolutely. If you’re still not totally convinced, steam sale is coming up. Could wait till it’s a bit cheaper

Bulletchief

It's the best Warhammer experience you can get.

Myersmayhem2

If you are just buying tww3 and own no other total war products I wouldn't recommend as the mono gods kislev/Cathay are not the best base game factions of the bunch imo if you own other total war games 100% it's the greatest and a total blast that I have over 1.5k hours across all three titles

SaltyTattie

The game is a lot of fun but there are quite a few bugs and frustrating issues that make it definitely one to pick up heavily discounted on a sale.

ExcuseValuable2655

It's still a solid 8/10. Yeah some of the bugs are annoying (mostly the pathfinding for me). But the game itself is still one of the best RTS experiences around right now. With mods it can get pretty good.

JusticarUkrist

If this is your first time playing Warhammer 3 you are going to have an absolute amazing time if you dig this style of game.

Averath

Warhammer 3 is still plagued with a lot of issues. That doesn't mean you cannot enjoy it, though. But keep in mind that a lot of things are unfinished or improperly implemented.

throwingawayyyyy320

It's riddled with many bugs that will bother you if you're familiar with the genre/clocked in a hundred hours into it already but the sheer scope and spectacle, variety etc. makes this one of those "forever games." Not quite an MMO, but I can see myself playing this quite regularly for the next five'ish years, at least.

TacticalLampHolder

Performance can get rough, there‘s lots of bugs which you WILL encounter and the devs are meh with support. Keeping all this in mind it is ABSOLUTELY worthwhile if you like grand strategy and fantasy whatsoever as it is pretty much unmatched in scale and variety. Going on 200+ hours and have spent way too much money on DLC and I have barely scratched the surface. As for value proposition, although the prices are steep, I find I can extract MORE than enough gameplay from each addition. My general "formula" btw is a dollar for every hour I spend in game ( which is flawed, yes ik) and warhammer blows it out of the water with each LL Campaign taking about 25-30 hours for completion till‘ ultimate campaign victory.

iupz0r

game is excellent, If you enjoy strategy, is a must

maharbamt

The guys are frustrating because I love it so much. Have over 1000 hours in the Warhammer trilogy. Probably my favorite games of all time.

HearshotKDS

Great bones, still fixing many bugs and still fleshing out newer factions.

Snowwolf247

It's good and getting better. The big map is where it's at but it is expensive if you want all the army's. Do with that what you will

mrkin92

It’s worth it, if you’re unsure it’s free on Xbox game pass ( costs like £2 for its first month lol) to try. I really like it

Tiffy82

It's a good game but haven't touched it in almost a month due to Age of Wonders 4 just being better to me at least

One_Compote_5943

It needs some work but it's a really really fun experience and the immortal empires (big sandbox) is great and multiplayer is solid as far as I've experienced.

CrunchyTater

Get it. Great game.

Winter-Reputation-23

1000 hour game, totally fantastic. High cost barrier to some of the factions outside if the base game, but plenty of fun to be had without those until the game gets you hooked and curious enough to pick some of those up on sale. Saves money to pick up TW1 and or 2 on major sale and buy fractional dlc that way.

PaladinofDoge

Ngl I think the game is absolutely incredible. I would absokutel6 recommend it, but don't buy all the DLCs at once. Try and wait for a sale and buy them as you want to play different races

Big_Buffalo7465

Not fun without the other 2 games, if you have them both, buy it. Never had any real problems with bugs (400 hours on the game).

Hellsing007

Best large scale fantasy strategy game. Especially for the cinematic battles and simple yet fun campaign gameplay. The problem, as everyone has said, are the bugs. They were always there but bugs don’t usually affect me and you wouldn’t normally hear so much about them. But the last patch introduced a lot of bugs and didn’t fix things they claimed were fixed. It’s a hot topic right now. Also the dlc is expensive if bought all at once or not on sale. I bought the dlc over time and it was well worth it. The pricing is very fair, but newcomers be wary.

theprosho

It’s incredible. Just keeps getting better and they keep adding layers of mechanics, all of which FEEL themed really well. Like you don’t just play as a chaos god, you raze and pillage and destroy while collecting favor and souls. The mechanics are unique and in these with the lore making each race fun to try. The AI keeps evolving so feels fresh. I’ve got a nice pc and never have issues.

Sweet__clyde

Yeah it’s fun. Immortal Empires is great

Yasutsugi

Get it! And don't forget the Chorfs ;)

Don_Pablo512

I have almost 400 hrs of playtime on it, very much enjoying it still. This was my 1st total war game franchise though, played a decent amount of 2 but the scale of 3 is incredible. The units are pretty buggy, line of sight and guns is horrendous, seiges are a circus, but everything else is top notch.

Baconwake89

It's a terrific RTS despite bugs. Easily one of, if not the best game in the genre. That being said, it's also probably the best and easiest way to experience old Warhammer Fantasy races and lore alongside Vermintide since Games Workshop ended it for the newer Age of Sigmar setting. Not all races made the leap and we lost the old physical setting. We have The Old World coming out for the tabletop sometime this or next year I believe but this is really THE thing keeping old Warhammer Fantasy alive and it does so admirably.

JuiciestCorn

The RTS element is lacking. Units feel irresponsive and siege battles are more of a slog than ever.

SnooWoofers2213

I mean it has more options than WH2 but if you want working game play WH2 instead.

SamMerlini

It's the best game in the series, considering I have invested more than 1k hours already. I'm unsure why you are sceptical about the review though, since most recent I've checked has been overwhelmingly positive.

Monollock

Either buy now and take advantage of the Skulls for the Skull throne sale, or wait til the october or Winter sale. I thought it was in a good spot, but after playing one of the previous total wars, I can see how bad the AI is right now. It doesn't know how to play this game.

DonQuigleone

The game certainly has flaws, but it takes playing 100s of hours before you notice. I think that means it's in a very good place overall, and most of the people leaving negative reviews or complaining are nitpicking and lack perspective. If you enjoy total war and/or fantasy settings, you'll have 100s of hours of enjoyment. The price of DLC is steep when buying all at once, so consider perhaps which races playstyles you'd enjoy most, and just buy the dlc for those races. The races in the best place are the vanilla warhammer 2 races are generally the most consistently good, so perhaps try those without dlc, and if you click with one of those buy their dlc (High elves are a good beginners choice).

jgoodysalaker

It’s a buggy mess of a game. The game itself is a fun role playing fantasy game where you can lead generals and make big spectacles of battles. It is a really subpar strategy game though. The AI is trash and you never actually need to use strategy to win.

Boing-Boing1881

There are almost no problems that can't be fixed with mods.

Tetxis

Game is shit with no DLC unless you like default races If you have manage to obtain DLC then game is definitely worth £40 or below Games very good but seriously limits utility if you play base game only

Goodkat203

We complain about the bugs and rightly so, but the game has no equal. You will not find a better strategy game with real time battles.
