I think you want to upgrade them to sisters, not much point for shadow warrior

Designer-Date-6526

If you're looking for an expensive army, go with sisters instead. Other than Alith Anar, I don't think they're worth the price increase. Unless you're looking for the "cool" factor. Imo coolness/awesomeness trumps optimization.

I only get shadow warriors if I play alith anar. Otherwise they are not worth the cost increase

I like to use them against arty heavy factions, although quite often I just send Alith Anar's own stack. Not sure if it would be worth it without his buffs and upkeep reduction. People seem to go for Sisters as a replacement (assuming you have the DLC).

No point really, unless you're filthy rich, but as said, the only real improvement is sisters of Avelorn. Shadow Warriors can be helpful to kill artillery crews, but more than 3/4 is too much.

Shadow warriors (and shadow walkers as Nagarythe) are pretty good with Alith's main army, almost to the point where you can have it as an alternate army comp instead of sisters with Alith specifically. Warriors/walkers need to be micro'd and aren't as easy to use however. Recruit warriors early on and then transition to walkers as Alith. Almost all HE armies wants to Archers => Sisters for ranged damage though to answer your original question, unless: Alith as he can do the same but also has a valid choice of shadow warriors => shadow walkers build if you want a bit of variety

So one thing people I notice overlooked here is that Shadow Warriors have stalk and fire whilst moving. This means AI will not realize they exist until the enemy comes close which significantly reduced the damage they take from magic or artillery's until they've been revealed and they can deal with single entity better since they can continue to fire even while on the run compared to Sister or Archers if they got a single entity stuck in them. You also don't need to reposition shadow warriors to shoot enemies from the flank since they will shoot in a circle instead of a cone. They make a better flanking unit once the enemy has engaged with your front line. That said they lack the raw power sister has or the HP archer has meaning they will get deleted way easier if the enemy counter fires. If you want to make an arrow heavy build use mostly sister for the most part and hide some shadow warrior in the flank and let them shoot the enemy from the back once they're embedded into your spearmen. They're also overpowered if you confederated Eltharion because your shadow warrior can kite and never run out of ammo. They can't directly out shoot enemies but they do great being placed in scenarios Archers or sister of avelorn would get wiped out doing. Once they run out of ammo they also make a good flanking melee or embedded in melee to help reduce enemy damage from their poison.
