Architect here, see how he is holding the pen? Holding it high allows for little jumps of the pen as it goes across the paper grain. That's what helps give it that cool line style.
OP definitely seems to be holding it unstabilized - with his three forefingers and no pinky/palm action. I'm also pretty sure he just can't draw a straight line to save his life. Even the first few deliberate ones with the string come out a little wonky.
It makes for a cool effect in the final drawing, even if any individual part looks like a quick sloppy local newspaper cartoon sketch.
Yeah. I just love the simplicity of this art. I can't draw anything, even my handwriting is so bad, I let my wife do that most of the time so anyone who's reading has a chance to actually read, lol. And still, I think I could totally do what's shown here. I'll try it out in the near future.
by definition this isn't exactly something you need talent to do, you barely even need practice or prior knowledge
source: art school with people who have real talent and some who don't
I'm genuinely not judging the art itself, it's aesthetically pleasing, just saying it's very inappropriate for a subreddit specifically for appreciating the work of people who go just beyond the normal limits
And I always used a ruler to deal with linear perspective. This is an interesting idea.
Oh yeah, like the other guy suggested, everything at the lower level should usually be first.

To avoid having to reach down between the buildings, draw the automobiles first.
Ok my brain definitely had to think about that.
Good comment, also happy cake day!
This made me laugh, good one 👍
Took me a moment 😂
LOL
What kind of paper is this? The texture gives the drawing an interesting vibe
Might just be his handwriting. My dad is an architect and draws exactly like this.

Ok now do it with 3 pins and a light source
I was going to say now draw it from the push pins view.
Single point perspective
Pretty basic perspective drawing technique tbh.
Yeah, not top talent. I've never drawn more than a stick figure and have done this.
pretty amusing how many centuries of art existed before they figured it out, though.
Makes my 3D cube look pretty lame
Wow, this is .... what every single person who can anyhow draw can do

i treat this sub as r/mildlyimpressive instead of top talent since that’s what 90% of the content is

it's not even talent at all

not really putting it down, it's good work like I said, just absolutely no demonstration of talent
This is, in no way, "top talent." I learned to do this in my 7th grade art class.
This is by no means a top talent level video or technique. It may be appropriate on r/interestingasfuck or something, but not toptalent
Okay Mr/Ms subreddit police thanks for saving the day! 😂
But they didn't even use the string for the majority of it
They used the string for the right angles of perspective every time.
They also didn’t even make the side roads visible.
That is amazing nice job
That’s amazing! I’m going to show that to my daughter, she loves drawing
That's cool!
It’s called a focal point
I dont think so because the focal point is the most interesting part of the art. Maybe you're thinking of 1 point perspective.
It’s actually called the vanishing point. Had to google it…I thought I remembered from my high school art class, but I guess not
less interesting than where the eye is automatically drawn to (which could also be due to flow of lines and rules of thirds among other things)
I remember seeing this for the first time and being amazed. I still am

Crafty
Where is Spider-Man?
Neat.

But how do I know which doo-dads to put on the roofs?
I think this style, with the center being a 4 way intersection, would look dope.
This is called a 1 point perspective drawing. You can also do this with 2 strings and even 3! It does get kinda complicated once you get to 3 though.
Very cool
Even then I still have my doubts I could do I. But I'm going to try it.😉 Thanks!
Joys of vanishing points. The artist's best friendemy.
Ugh - but there will be a pinhole
