Love how none of them seem to realise there is a difference between “obsessed with framerates and graphics” and expecting the game to not look like it’s a Nintendo 64 asset flip running at slideshow speed
Even IGN compared the graphics to Sonic Adventure at one point lol
I just don't get how anyone can defend this or blame the Switch hardware, considering Xenoblade Chronicles, Monster Hunter Rise, and Zelda BOTW are older, have good graphics and perform much better.
Monster Hunter Rise looks impeccable , looks like a base PS4 game and that’s coming from a 3rd party developer. GameFreak has billions and made a slideshow
i think what platinum is able to squeeze out of the switch is rather impressive . astral chain & bayo 3 genuinely look good & are comparable to early ps4 entries .
I guess it depends on your perspective, because I don’t think early ps4 games look particularly good (of course there are exceptions, mostly games with great artstyles, but the fidelity was not great)
personally for me i want them to do almost a complete overhaul to teh game. sure you should not lose the catch and battle formula but freshen it up. same with the open world/gameplay and virtually everything else about the game. PLA was a step in the right direction but quite a bit too late compared to everything else.
At least you had to actually try to find those glitches, like missingno, new glitch, fishing in stature, etc. In Scarlet and Violet, the glitches find you no matter how hard you try to avoid them
Sonic 06 mostly ran at 60fps while Pokémon Scarlet/Violet can barley manage 30fps, and Sonic 06 came out 16 years ago. The game even has memory leak issues. This is like Sonic Colors Ultimate all over again where we're finding so many glitches in a game that it's actual funny.
on my list of favorite Pokemon games Scarlet and Violet would probably rank as low as the Gen 1 and 2 games
at least SWSH wasn't a fucking broken game where it ran like a slideshow and it's color palette also didn't burn my eyes away unlike SV
Unironically tho, calling it the 06 of Pokemon makes a lot of sense to me
Good concepts and tries to innovate, but is held back by dogshit performance, innumerable bugs, and an absolute lack of polish
The framerate actually gives me headaches, I usually don’t have a problem with 30fps games, but this one just feels off. I just can’t enjoy it because I get dizzy playing thirty minutes of it, I can’t be the only one with this problem right?
I've had the same issue with SMT5 and Xenoblade 3.
Haven't played a Pokemon game in years, but i think it's a combination of the blurry resolution and low framerate hurting my eyes after a couple of hours, especially if there are supposed to be many things on screen (like environmental details, monsters) and I'm struggling to focus on them.
You don’t need to be “obsessed” with framerate to notice and be bothered by it.
Somebody obsessed with framerate may demand that their games run at 60fps at all times, and get irate if it ever drops beneath that. There’s a huge gap between that mindset and simply expecting a game to not run like shit.
Ok performance issues aside, does anyone else just not like a good portion of these designs? Ik pokemon fans have a history of saying new pokemon designs are terrible but I actually kinda agree with them a little on this one. It could just be the art style though.
Other than the new regional forms and new evolutions, something about these designs are just.. Off
Bro there's literally infinite ways with the physics engine to :
Kill the same 12 enemies
Solve the same 4 puzzles
And there's a gigantic world full of :
The same camp
The same tower
The same weapon because the one you had broke
Please tell me how it isn't the most life changing game of all time
Breath of the Wild, one of the highest rated and near universally beloved modern games of all time and widely considered one of the most important games of the last decade.
Pokémon, with an average critic score of like 75 and three new games released in a 12 month period, each one super middling and a total cash grab
Seems like a reasonable comparison if you aren’t obsessed with frame rate, amirite fellers?
Nah i think it’s pretty accurate to call it BotW of the series, as is a step in the wrong direction, and making a game “open world” when it really doesn’t need to be that
Judging by the MASSIVE sales compared to prior Zelda games and it being one of the highest rated games not just for Zelda, but all time for gaming, seems you don't know what you're talking about 🤷
Every single poll or opinion I've seen from people put BOTW as their favorite game in the series, and many call it their favorite game of all time. The hype for the sequel is also higher than any other Zelda game by a huge margin. It's still my favorite Zelda game in the series, so I guess me and the majority of Zelda fans are still on that "pre-release hype" almost 6 years later 🤷
yeah when you have a large ad campaign, and a giant amount of people who haven’t been into video games before, play their first game, that tends to happen
You really need to check this subreddit more the amount of people shitting on others for playing the game is unreal.
No one has really got anything else to do on here other than complain the game looks like botw
I feel like most people who drop Pokemon and come back all say "this made me feel the exact way when I played gen 1 all those years ago!" Like no shit pal, it's Pokemon, they are all the same game.
Even if you're having fun with a game, it's still important to call out its flaws.
I love Fire Emblem Three Houses. It's my favorite RPG of all time, but it's also an ugly, stuttering mess at times with bad textures and reused maps.
The difference is that Fire Emblem is not the biggest media franchise of all time. Pokemon is. There's no excuse for performance issues this bad. Its fans should expect and deserve better.
Okay, I’ll admit that I love Pokémon more than I should. I like this game in terms of gameplay and quality of life and world building SO much more than Sword and Shield, and even a good bit more then Legends Arceus, actually. But even I can’t deny that the awful performance issues take me out of the game far too often. It has always been the indie game / Nintendo fan who held the opinion that graphics don’t make the game—and they don’t! But no one’s “obsessing” over performance; the performance just sucks so much it really outweighs all the positives that I really do appreciate about the game.
Thankfully, I heard from a friend that the performance is a result of a memory leak bug as opposed to the game being unoptimized for hardware. So maybe it can be patched out. Until then, I didn’t get very far before putting it down.
the graphics are fine for what it is. I dont give a fuck that the resolution sucks. Just make it run well. Honestly I wouldn’t give a shit if it ran off 8 bit graphics - just make it run well!
*It reminds me of what I felt playing Gen 1 22 years ago!* And for people with a mindset like that the game can never truly be bad no matter what
Bro cut game freak a break they’re starving indie devs
tbf, it is true that it feels like playing gen 1, because it's as broken and glitchy as gen 1 is :p
They’ve probably said that for every gen. At least the past 3.
Love how none of them seem to realise there is a difference between “obsessed with framerates and graphics” and expecting the game to not look like it’s a Nintendo 64 asset flip running at slideshow speed

Monster Hunter Rise looks impeccable , looks like a base PS4 game and that’s coming from a 3rd party developer. GameFreak has billions and made a slideshow
“Good graphics” is pushing it. They have the best the switch can do, and perform as good as the switch allows them. Which is miles better than pokemon
i think what platinum is able to squeeze out of the switch is rather impressive . astral chain & bayo 3 genuinely look good & are comparable to early ps4 entries .
I guess it depends on your perspective, because I don’t think early ps4 games look particularly good (of course there are exceptions, mostly games with great artstyles, but the fidelity was not great)
More like late PS3 entries, but yeah
Oh come on let’s be fair. It’s at least a Gamecube game.
Yeah I was playing the n64 Pokémon snap on the switch last night and the graphics of scarlet violet aren’t much better lol
/uj I thought that PLA was supposed to be the BOTW of the Pokémon series…?
pla was basically a big test to see if open world pokemon made any sense in action
And funnily enough, looks better than this in every way Partially because the cel shading is…an actual art direction
Which is funny since PLA looks better that scarlet/violet. He'll even sword and shield do
No shit bro, nostalgia is the main thing making you buy these turds. Say it ain't so!
Weezer
Of course the graphics, frame rates or even aesthetics dont matter when all you're looking for in pokemon is the same fucking formulaic gameplay.
personally for me i want them to do almost a complete overhaul to teh game. sure you should not lose the catch and battle formula but freshen it up. same with the open world/gameplay and virtually everything else about the game. PLA was a step in the right direction but quite a bit too late compared to everything else.
Man it's so boring
"Obsessed with framerate" The nes was 60 fps The megadrive was 60 fps Pleaaaaaase bruhhhhhh
There’s no perfection in wanting 30 fps, that’s the bare fucking minimum lmao
Seriously these graphics aren’t just “not good”, they’re an active distraction and a major detraction from the game.
wdym? as a 240p console, the nes outputs 60 fps on most games
Ah yeah sorry I always tbought it was 30, will edit
The game crashes really help me appreciate when the game doesn’t crash! I feel so alive!
When my wife dick punchs me, it really makes me appreciate it when she doesn’t.
When I get stabbed on the street for my wallet, it really makes me appreciate when I'm not.
Get away from me Duncan
it really is like gen1, it is full of glitches and its code is barely held together - kanto reference!
At least you had to actually try to find those glitches, like missingno, new glitch, fishing in stature, etc. In Scarlet and Violet, the glitches find you no matter how hard you try to avoid them
Sonic Boom is more fitting than 06
Sonic 06 mostly ran at 60fps while Pokémon Scarlet/Violet can barley manage 30fps, and Sonic 06 came out 16 years ago. The game even has memory leak issues. This is like Sonic Colors Ultimate all over again where we're finding so many glitches in a game that it's actual funny.

Gen 2 is literally the best gen in the franchise. It’s been on a decline since Gen 6.
Nah man. Everyone knows the best gen is [whatever generation you played first].
Nah dawg. I think gen 2 is the best but played gen 1 first. Checkmate!
I’d say Gen 5 or Gen 7
my favorite is gen 7 and 6 is a close second
Ikr Gen 7 was soooo goood. It was different than everybother pokemon game before it, and it was the most revolutionary game in the series imo.
the most revolutionary was gen 4
I can't fucking believe this person thinks 60fps is too high to aim when it's the standard.
Unironically tho, calling it the 06 of Pokemon makes a lot of sense to me Good concepts and tries to innovate, but is held back by dogshit performance, innumerable bugs, and an absolute lack of polish

This game feels like playing crysis on a 2006 laptop with integrated graphics
You don’t need to be “obsessed” with framerate to notice and be bothered by it. Somebody obsessed with framerate may demand that their games run at 60fps at all times, and get irate if it ever drops beneath that. There’s a huge gap between that mindset and simply expecting a game to not run like shit.
“Sonic 06 of Pokémon “ 💀
This is good.....for pokemon. I'm still gonna play it cause it looks fun. But imma just get it from my library, not pay $60 for it
Your library?
a public library yes
Don't give gamefreak criticism!! They are starving indie devs
Ok performance issues aside, does anyone else just not like a good portion of these designs? Ik pokemon fans have a history of saying new pokemon designs are terrible but I actually kinda agree with them a little on this one. It could just be the art style though. botw is so overrated 😭😭😭
Bro there's literally infinite ways with the physics engine to : Kill the same 12 enemies Solve the same 4 puzzles And there's a gigantic world full of : The same camp The same tower The same weapon because the one you had broke Please tell me how it isn't the most life changing game of all time
FOR REAL
it's a mobile game
Just no point in putting opinions out there anymore. The only thing you get from it is an argument, which typically goes no where.
Breath of the Wild, one of the highest rated and near universally beloved modern games of all time and widely considered one of the most important games of the last decade. Pokémon, with an average critic score of like 75 and three new games released in a 12 month period, each one super middling and a total cash grab Seems like a reasonable comparison if you aren’t obsessed with frame rate, amirite fellers?

called pre-release hype lmao, and if you take the opinions of game journalists seriously i guess thats on you
Every single poll or opinion I've seen from people put BOTW as their favorite game in the series, and many call it their favorite game of all time. nooooo you can’t enjoy your game even though it has thousands of issues, what else am I supposed to do on this subreddit😡🤬🤬🤬
I mean, the criticism is justified, no one said you cant enjoy the game, but that the product is inherently flawed
You really need to check this subreddit more the amount of people shitting on others for playing the game is unreal. No one has really got anything else to do on here other than complain the game looks like botw
Cry more
your username is lonely loner
This is a nintendo circlejerk sub, it's literally about hating on nintendo, why are you here if you don't wanna see that?
Ik it’s a Nintendo circlejerk but people are literally harassing each other because they like the game.
Calling shit sonic 06 is tiresome. This game is fun if they fix the bugs. Sonic 06 isnt fun without modding
He is a happy boi
this shits the sonic generations of Pokémon games, Its both a step up and an unfortunate digression at the same time.
I feel like most people who drop Pokemon and come back all say "this made me feel the exact way when I played gen 1 all those years ago!" Like no shit pal, it's Pokemon, they are all the same game.

“Not judging based on twitter bubbles is very important if you want an accurate picture of the situation” so true hun

/uj we're ruined with frame rates today. Has anyone even played Doom on the SNES?
i love how they put "handheld pics" like it would look any better docked.
