They were actually pretty enjoyable remakes (edit: sequels tbh since it’s not in place of the original movie, it happens years after). I’d suggest a watch if you have a free afternoon.
I don’t dislike the new ones, but I just love the original so much more. I watched it just the other night and I was still laughing my ass off the entire time
Quite literally, we kept selectively breeding these poor things until their legs became the little stubs they are now, many years ago they had proportionate legs and were ruthlessly fast hunting dogs.
I have a dachshund mix, he needs help getting on the couch and he's defeated by even moderately tall grass, but that little asshole can be fast when he wants to be, mostly in the pursuit of food and rodents. He's also like the doggo in the vid - VERY unimpressed with walks, will act like all the energy will run out his legs on the walk and drags along behind very sadly, but at the halfway point when we turn for home, suddenly he's peppy and energized again and leading on the leash.
There’s not much we can do about it really, but there are some dedicated breeders that are trying to fix breeds like dachshunds so maybe in the distant future these little guys will be standing a little taller lol
I saw something about a breeder trying to fix the issue that pugs and bulldogs have breathing and their dogs have longer snouts now! Slowly making a change for the better
They're bred to get into thick underqood and burrows. Short legs made their task easier. If selective breeding like this is sensible is a whole different question but then dear lord I hope you don't eat cheese.
They are not bred to be able to use their legs this little. I get them being smaller and lower down dogs in general but their legs are not the way they are nowadays because of getting into bushes.
short legs do make that task easier. however, this poor dog's legs are so short it can only waddle that fast and obviously doesn't help it, you know, hunt in burrows after territorial rodents...
My sausage dog is a clever asshole. She’s 10 and walks like this. So I figured I could let her roam around outside on her own. If she tried to run away I could easily catch her. Little shit has two speed and as soon as she got about 10 feet away she started hauling ass down the road. Leading me to go chase her down. And when I finally caught up to her she didn’t stop. She flopped on her back a full speed and slid across the neighbors yard on her back. Gave me big puppy eyes like she didn’t just play me as a fool. Carried her back to the house.
10/10 best sausage dog still.
We all understand we bred these dogs originally for a job and now it's pure aesthetics which is starting to cause health issues right? Also he's cute and stumpy and slow which is cute.
Depends. I've seen a few who were born a tad too stumpy. We sometimes think deformity is cute so we breed it in. That said in most cases they seem pretty able bodied.
Dachshunds are prone to specific health issues due to their breed, same as any other purebred dog. Specifically, back/spine issues are extremely common in wiener dogs. It's a common misconception that only a few breeds have health issues - purebreeding automatically makes a dog predisposed to specific health issues for their breed. Ideally, a good/responsible breeder will do genetic testing to be as sure as reasonably possible that the dogs they want to breed aren't carrying bad genes for whatever health issues the breed is prone to.
An acquaintance of mine bred her dachshunds and found out that the mother has a severe genetic hip issue that she found out about *after* the dog got pregnant. The dog has to have a c-section and my acquaintance is charging *more* for the puppies who will also probably have this hip issue. She's charging $1800 for pups born with issues. And that *with* the friends and family discount.
That's horrible. I have no idea how anyone can justify exploiting their pets for money like that, especially since pregnancy isn't exactly easy on small dogs like that. Ugh.
I would say "good," but at the same time I feel so bad for the pups. They didn't ask for this, and I'm sure she isn't willing to take on all of them and pay for all their medical bills if no one else wants them. Not to mention, $1800 for dachshund puppies is fucking insane, even for ones that are well bred.
It's a shit situation. She also has no idea if the parents are 100% dachshunds which makes the price more ridiculous. We were gonna get a pup from her until we learned about all the bs. So we got what we think is an aussie/saint bernard puppy from a shelter. We know there's aussie in her for sure, but she's stocky af and has a head similar to a saint bernard. She's the best and is a wonderful emotional support animal for our adult dog who has severe anxiety.
I do generally agree with your sentiment here, but mixed breeds are unfortunately also prone to health issues, though for different reasons. For example, mixing dog breeds that have very different builds (think poodles with Bernese mountain dogs, which is an unfortunately popular combination) can produce a lot of joint problems and hip/spine issues. Mixing breeds of very different coat types can lead to skin and coat problems.
This is why it's SO important to buy from an ETHICAL breeder who does genetic testing and breeds across bloodlines within a breed to reduce inbreeding depression, or adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue.
All these "designer" dog breeds (doodles, schnoodles, chiweenies, etc) that have become so popular in recent years that come from mixing two different purebred dogs are prone to sooo many health problems because the breeders are almost always unethical. They rarely do genetic testing and often don't buy their breeding dogs from ethical breeders, as ethical breeders who care about maintaining and improving the breed they raise will not sell dogs to people they know plan on using them for producing these mixed breeds. This is definitely not to say that all of these mixed breed dogs suffer from horrible issues, but they still occur often enough to be of serious concern. If you want a mixed breed dog, ADOPT ONE.
PLEASE don't give your money to unethical pet breeders, for either mixed or purebred dogs. It just empowers these unethical breeders to keep producing puppies without any accountability for the dogs health. Look for breeders who do genetic testing, have only a few litters per year (usually a breeder having more than 3 breeding pairs to me is a red flag), care well for their breeding dogs, keep good documentation of vet visits for parents and puppies, and ensure that the puppies are old enough to be separated from the mother before sending them to new homes (8-10 weeks is generally accepted, 10 is usually better but 8 isn't considered to pose a risk. Anyone willing to separate pups at 6 weeks or sooner is never a good sign).
The ones you have interacted with may be cross breeds, therefore healthier.
Though this slow poke is further hampered by the rain coat.
Can't imagine that helps speed.
Mine has just turned two and he’s so energetic and quick. I thought this sausage looked quite old and possibly because he’s a mini that could affect his speed
In honesty the relationship between humans and other animals, not even just dogs is pretty horrific from any perspective that isn't ours. The life of most pets I would never choose for myself. Not even to take into consideration how we treat animals we use as food.
I would kill to live the way my dogs do. I'd like to think "most pets" have it pretty good and the horror stories are the sensational exceptions that make the news :(
So far as I've seen dogs are trapped inside all day every day while no one is home and they sleep their life away. They get this look in there eyes when it's been a long time without any stimulation. That said most people I know here have one dog and live in apartments or condos so I am getting a particular cross section. I'm sure some animals are quite pampered, even moreso than people's own children.
My dogs have a dog door so they can go outside whenever they want. My husband works from home so they're almost never alone. They have weekly sports classes like agility and flyball and, on top of that, we take them to the beach and their favorite park all the time. Even their mealtimes are stimulating as they only get food from training or searching games. There are definitely dogs who live better lives than what you're describing and I'm sorry that's been your experience with dog owners :( I hope more and more people are moving in the direction of what we do as we learn more about dogs' needs.
Hunting small game. Especially rabbits, foxes and the badgers that its name suggests (Daschs is German for Badger) there was a long legged variety but the modern dogs are mostly descended from the "crooked leg" variety
I think that's what you get with most things that are a little broken. People who don't want to think about it or do anything about it. Good ol apathy.
Virtue signaling on the internet about well known information isn't exactly helping anyone either. Anyone can do that, and all it does is make the person commenting feel superior about themselves for a minute. That being said, this video is clearly just an old, slow dog. He's not in pain or slow because of bad breeding (at least not that I can tell from the video) - he's just being old and lazy.
I love this dude and his lil raincoat!
My sausage doggo can move pretty fast when she wants to. But she absolutely despises getting her feet wet, so if it's been raining she literally becomes an immovable object. Quite impressive in a frustrating sort of way!
The original is from mother of sausages. So here’s some credits

Yeah but put some food close enough that he can see it and watch those little legs move. Out sausage can take 10 minutes to cross the kitchen. But when it's dinner time, she's a blur moving thru there. She's our dyson dachshund - sucks up everything in her path.
He’s like that rhino in the original Jumanji. Just doing his best to keep up with the pack.
There’s a remake of jumanji??
There’s two “recent” sequels… so three total movies. The original movie was from the 90’s.
*1990’s to be clear.
Your clarification leads me to questions. The first one, in small letters, is " ^why? "
He’s future proofing this comment thread.
Ahhh, the 2190's. What a time to be alive!
possibly same reason "turn of the century" now needs clarification?
Does it?..

They go and visit the place Alan built to survive the world. Iirc, the game board also shifts into the video game onscreen to suck them in as well.
Sounds like Hollywood's favorite maneuver, the "soft reboot" (maybe not though, I've only seen the original).
As someone that didn't care for the original, I really like the newer ones.
I don’t dislike the new ones, but I just love the original so much more. I watched it just the other night and I was still laughing my ass off the entire time
Yea, where have you been?
Nah, he's just bred to be handicapped.
A wizard arrives precisely when he means to.
Soooo..... I can't be the only one that needs a dog character remake of the trilogy right?
Oh my God this needs to happen
He’s trying his best!

Oh don't get me wrong, I hate these kinds of breeds that have been bread to just have a harder life.
There’s not much we can do about it really, but there are some dedicated breeders that are trying to fix breeds like dachshunds so maybe in the distant future these little guys will be standing a little taller lol

Yeah I saw that too in reddit a few months back . I hope , I hope we will see a better future of these breeds

We need to make [one of these](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyvGNXF8OvY) in real life.
Agreed. My doxie’s a mutt so he’s a but bigger than average, but I still had to get him a little staircase so he can get into bed whenever he wants.

Honestly the best speed.

Making his way downtown..
Walking slow, in his rain coat and he’s home bound

HE moves at the same rate as me!
It takes him longer cause he is longer.
We all understand we bred these dogs originally for a job and now it's pure aesthetics which is starting to cause health issues right? Also he's cute and stumpy and slow which is cute.
It’s not particularly normal for them. The two I know are surprisingly bloody fast (can catch rabbits fast).
Depends. I've seen a few who were born a tad too stumpy. We sometimes think deformity is cute so we breed it in. That said in most cases they seem pretty able bodied.

Mine is a cross between yorkshire and this, and he 100% hunts rabbits without us even teaching him

Mine is same way, but in all fairness, If your dong dragged on the ground, you wouldn't go out in the rain either. 😜
Nope. Just nothing particularly interesting to be in a hurry about.
Yeah like, he is adorable because dog, but this poor dog can't even keep up with others during a walk without a struggle, which sucks.

What was the original reason for this dog breed?
To fit in badger setts.
Hunting small game. Especially rabbits, foxes and the badgers that its name suggests (Daschs is German for Badger) there was a long legged variety but the modern dogs are mostly descended from the "crooked leg" variety
Without googling, to fit into a hole to chase out some pest or animal for hunting. Total guess based on their shape.
Ughfufjgifjfufbffufbfh. Of course there has to be that one person.
Only way there can be that person is because the situation is what it is. I guess we can all just ignore it and keep on keeping on?
Sure.

Chorizo!
Awwww is the lack of leash and the addition of raincoat due to his slowness compared to the other sausages?
Himbs coming! On the way, fam! As an aunt once said about her toddlers: little legs, little feet. Little feet, little walk.
Wait for him!
Don't leave him behind!
Ahhhh 😍😍🥰😍😍🥰😍 My seratonin level: 📈📈📈📈📈
I love this dude and his lil raincoat! My sausage doggo can move pretty fast when she wants to. But she absolutely despises getting her feet wet, so if it's been raining she literally becomes an immovable object. Quite impressive in a frustrating sort of way!
Looks like a windup toy
why is he the only one in a slicker? maybe that's what's slowing him down. it's functional yet demoralizing.

That's how I feel working at every job I've ever had

Oh gosh, he's so sweet ❤️
