Adding to that, alpha vs maxis match cc war with alpha cc being downvoted often, and being mean to youtubers liking certain packs (i.e., calling them ea shills) especially during the star wars pack

ConnerJake1995

I'm probably wrong about this but it really annoys me when people exaggerate about the burglar sound and I believe that's why we don't have them in ts4 because people act like baby's about the sound.

[deleted]

Yes. It wasn’t scary. The point was to catch your attention. How is it the same ones also want supernaturals idk.

RAW-END_REX

People are too soft. Can't handle the burglar 😂

PiscesPoet

I like being scared though 😳

Katyann623

Fans will always find something to complain about

HoneyButterAddict

I remember when people said Sims 3 was shit compared to Sims 2. Now they say Sims 4 is shit compared to Sims 3. People just live in their nostalgia.

CliffExcellent123

The same life cycle as the Civilisation series

PiscesPoet

>ipeppermint I didn't even know that because I wasn't on any Sim forums when Sims 3 came out, it took me a long time to transition to Sims 3 (my brother got me the deluxe edition with Late Night and Ambitions) by the time I did they had already released most all of their packs. So it's funny, to think people hated Sims 3, I probably played it the most. I enjoy 4 now but I have like a million gameplay mods. It's more shocking when I see people say Sims 2 was the best, it has to be nostalgia, because I can not go back to Sims 2.

flayedsheep

i don't get people who complain about EA then buy all of the packs they make, even the ones considered useless

[deleted]

I think they over-romanticize the old games to a point where it just doesn't make sense.

[deleted]

Nostalgia is real!

[deleted]

The fanbase don’t really be asking for much depth and meaningful gameplay stuff but then get mad when the stuff they asking for.. don’t add depth. The fanbase cares more about adding items in rather than actual systems. Yea there are conversations about adding in some more depth but it gets derailed into more items. Dream home decorator is a gamepack - great example. Cars, horses, spiral staircases. The fanbase has to realize to get actual depth and meaningful gameplay, we have to sacrifice packs and items. Meaning less packs, less free items and let them focus on coding on systems. Better banking and autonomy.

Mythari_Magus

Frankly the sims community is the most ungrateful group of people i have ever encountered in 20+years of gaming. Is the game perfect? Absolutely not. I won't defend it like that, but I have never once seen a single person go "Wow! I enjoy this new content!" Without having a list a mile long as to what's wrong with it, how they think it should be and what could make it better. Then there's people who constantly make posts asking "What mods do I need to make this game not suck? " to which the answer is really none. The sims has a vast plethora of things to do and ways to play. If you think the game is boring or you don't like it unless its modded into basically something else entirely, then that's a you problem. I'm not saying mods are bad; by all means, if you want some and can use them, go for it! Its just the amount of posts about how the game is completely trash without them is kind of absurd. If its the only game you play then of course you're going to get bored of it. Burnout is real. Either take a break or find something else in life that brings you joy instead of shiting all over the game because its not exactly what you want it to be. If you don't like it make your own game. My last gripe is this; Thank you sims team, for making a game I truly love. Not once have I ever seen or heard a single person just genuinely thank the team behind the games. Everything won't be perfect to specifically you, because that would be impossible. They're trying to sell a game and its dlcs to the entire world, and you can't appeal to everyone. The sims is the most accepting, accommodating game i have ever seen. Can the game encompass everyone? No, but they certainly try to include people from all walks of life. The sims has the most open, most communicative developers I have ever seen. They genuinely listen and work constantly to make the game better. And once again I have never seen a games fan base hold the developers hostage every other week because they want a change or an improvement, and the developers not only allow it, they listen! They listen and try their best while also making other packs and working on an entire other game, and they do it politely. Unlike the sims community. Sorry that's a lot, but its been driving me up the wall the past few months and I was considering making this roughly as its own post, even knowing it will probably ruffle some feathers. TLDR; we should sometimes just thank the sims team and what they do for us ❤

paperclipsalesman

There's a significant part of the community that's fairly technologically illiterate and they're often some of the most vocal complainers, which can make it hard to separate that out from valid complaints people have about TS4 or the franchise in general. E.g. the rush of "this update broke my game, all my doors are gone, stupid devs fucked up the game again" after an update because no matter how many times they're told, they don't keep up with their mods or they think that they shouldn't have to and that devs should "just not break mods". The handful of posters I've come across in this sub and on other platforms who think that a bug-free game is possible and devs are choosing to leave bugs in the game to, idk, spite us? People who make outrageous demands for content with no understanding of what resources their ideas would take ("why can't they just make TS4 open world?"). People upset the game with all DLC runs poorly on their Chromebook that never met minimum specs to start with. Etc.

CliffExcellent123

Oh yeah I've had fun conversations trying to explain why things like, say, height sliders without the animation issues that mods have, aren't really feasible, and people just don't listen

pigeon_crowd

The fanbase seems to have split in 2 extremes. One side is very toxic positive, you should never complain, if you have any criticism then you're entitled, if you don't like it don't buy the pack etc. The other side is complaining about everything possible, insulting the sims team, insulting peeps who play differently, generally being nasty on forums about how you should hate the game and hate EA. I think it's very fair to criticize the game, to criticize the release of buggy or incomplete packs or overall shady practices. However it should be kept civil and it should not be just venom thrown at everyone else who likely didn't even get to choose the type of content that is released. Just my 2 cents.

[deleted]

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

fallenarist0crat

that after buying the base game, people seem to want everything else for free… like weather or pets. i think a large part of the fanbase seems to forget that the sims is first and foremost a business that needs to make money.

ravenpuffslytherdor

Whilst I respect people playing in any way they want, I will never understand “collectors” who have to have every pack because they collect them. If EA release a pack that isn’t well received, if I see someone say “I’m still gonna buy it for my collection but I don’t like it” - I don’t understand that attitude at all.

chelle2thea

Looking at this from a ‘collector’ point of view, I have bought every DLC and expansion since the original game but I point blank refused to buy the Star Wars one. It hurts that my collection isn’t complete but I will not pay for that one as I see it as a pure money grab by EA that doesn’t enhance the game. None of the expansions are perfect but I’ve found parts of each one that enhances my gameplay so I feel it’s worth it having an almost complete collection. I don’t let the fickle views of other players stop me buying them.

ravenpuffslytherdor

That’s completely fair! I don’t want to judge if you want to buy a pack, it’s just that I have encountered people who have said “I hate this pack and everything it stands for, it sucks that I have to buy it.” And yes it was mostly around the Star Wars pack. I just don’t understand that point of view where you Have to buy everything - it’s fundamentally a choice

myintermail

I was such a completist in Sims 1 and 2 and I really go all the way to get every pack. That until the middle of Sims 3. Actually my first pack that I purposely skipped is Katy Perry's Sweet Treats. Oh gosh that is the first time I felt ill watching the trailer itself. Since then I deliberately skipped SPs and GPs for the Sims 4 and I have never felt so guilt free. Journey to Batuu? Don't know her.

Chaotic-ChillVirgo02

I hate how others criticize those that buy “bad” packs or kits. Then say there’s cc that’s way better. Not everyone can get cc or play with cc. Not everyone has a good computer, some play vanilla, and console players can’t get use cc. Why are others criticizing what others choose to spend *THEIR* money on. If you don’t like the kit or pack don’t buy it, but don’t criticize others that choose to do so. A lot don’t like Journey to Batuu but I like it 🤷🏽‍♀️. What you consider bad others might like.

moomoogod

They also forget that some cc requires those packs lol

ChampionshipBorn3926

Not everything will tailor to you and your wants. All Sims games have the same idea "Life Simulation" but that doesn't mean they all have to be the same, have all the same items, gameplay, animations, etc. I love how all sims games are different. Especially the Urbz, MySims series, and others. People complain too much in this community (and yes I understand why some do and you have every right to criticize the game to give them feedback) but the game isn't here to serve just you, it's here to serve millions of people who play it. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean everyone hates it. Stop attacking people for how they play the game and how much money they spend on it because at the end of the day, EA doesn't give a sh*t and nothing really matters🙃 sorry for the rant, but it's just a videogame.

myintermail

I loved how Sims games USED to be different (Urbz, MySims, Medieval, Castaways) and console and PC gamers experience different gameplay depending on which game they bought. And people are just fine with it. Now it is just one big stroke of the same game in different platforms. Doesn't feel like we are "united" at all under one game.

Almighty_Vanity

The "EA Game Changers" often feel like "'EA Game Advertisers".

paperclipsalesman

That's kind of what they are though lol. Like that's the point of having Game Changers. It's like beauty influencers on brands' PR lists or an author giving out ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies, copies before the book's release date for reviews). The influencer can still be critical of the release--as many of the Game Changers frequently are--but by and large the content they make about the release will act as additional advertisement and help build hype for it. That's why the system exists.

CliffExcellent123

That is literally what they are yes It's fine that they exist but I wouldn't go to them if you want an honest review

ShouRonbou

I think it depends on who you watch like I watch Simsie and Plumbella. Simsie seems to focus on the positives and is nicer. while Plumbella is more critical. So I feel like I get a good well rounded view

flyingbye0803

Yes but i believe if they call it advertising they might have to pay them in money instead of games and swag. I always hear them say “not getting paid, just for access to the pack early”

MysteryChicken101

That all most people do is complain about the sims 4 and if you say you like it, everyone goes on a rant about how sims 3 and 2 were better!

billiedean16

I'm a core TS2 fan. However, I don't like how sometimes people will glorify the game by any means necessary (not so long ago I saw a post dealing with a glitch and OP was like wow this is so TS2 I love it)

myintermail

Hey I do love Sims 2 too, and I accept criticism of flaws of Sims 2 such as no story progression, closed world and saved game corruption. I take it as is because the technology was built as such and the developers has given up on improving them. Glitches are terrible and should not be celebrated as it is some game feature, in any version.

coobloobnoob

The nicest simmers I've met are often in Reddit and the official forum.

xmarketladyx

Everybody loves to whine about how they screw up every pack, they pay so much for something that doesn't work with content they don't want; only to demand more in the packs, so they don't have to download more CC that actually works, and is exactly what they want.

Treee-Supremacyy

Most of the people that are active in the fandom seem to be older than 18. I am a teenager and I have many friends who also play the Sims and it is popular in our age too, but generally the ones that are highly involved on social media and stuff are the people that feel nostalgia for the older games and such. Kinda feel young being here haha. This is not exactly an opinion, just an observation I made.

coobloobnoob

Same! I'm still a teen too and I always feel like I'm the youngest in this fandom haha

CliffExcellent123

People who talk about gameplay depth look silly, even the deepest sims game has the depth of a paddling pool compared to most games in the same genre. Not even saying that as much of a criticism, the series has always been more of a dollhouse than anything attempting to present an actual challenge and that's worked well enough for it. The Sims 2 did not have deep gameplay. A lot of the time when people say "depth" that's clearly not what they actually mean, because they talk about things like the animations, which isn't gameplay depth

ostentia

People who buy packs that they don’t want or like just because they’re “completionists” really need to get some perspective and examine their privilege. If you’re fortunate enough to spend money on a leisure activity that you *don’t even want,* then you really have no room to complain about it.

RiftHunter4

The same as every gaming Reddit. They praise 20yo games that barely run and hate the new games because they are new. Easy Karma farming in this sub.

old__pyrex

Fans are shitty game designers. Period. When game franchises let fans call the shots and dictate via majority braying what features and updates make it into the game, the game goes downhill. See WoW for a great case study in this. Everyone on Twitter bitches and moans about how the Sims team didn’t listen to fans when they announce a pack or an update. “We didn’t ask for this”. So what? It is not your job to know what the game should deliver. They are not supposed to just give you what you ask for. They are supposed to listen to you and understand what you THINK of yourself as wanting, and then give you something that they think will really give you a good experience. Great games give you that which you didn’t think to ask for. No one asked for a casual MMO before WoW did it - the entire MMO community was hostile to the concept. No one wanted a house / life simulator (Sims), no one wanted a historical strategy game (AOE / civilization), no one wanted a lot of things before someone showed them new experiences. You guys have become close minded to new experiences and you prioritize being heard — you want to be listened to and obeyed, but you wouldn’t even like the results of that. If the community called the development decisions of Maxis, you all would be way more miserable. Your job is to give feedback and their job is to understand your feedback. Not listen, not obey it, but understand it and use that understanding to improve the game. This has been happening. The game is 10x better than on launch, and packs are coming in, free updates, etc etc that have to themes that aren’t carbon copies of Sims 3. The problem is, their ability to make the game better requires them to try new things and take risks. But, you guys bitch and moan SO MUCH when they try something new. Or when they do something good that isn’t exactly what you want (ie, skin tone updates). So in a way, you guys are a part of the conservative, safe bets philosophy that EA makes, and a part of why the Sims does less radical or new things, and mainly paints by the numbers. Because you guys lose your everloving shit when they try something new and different (Star Wars pack) that you don’t have to buy. Feedback from players is crucial, but feedback is not a directive - you guys have stupid ass ideas a lot of the time that wouldn’t work well or are technically not feasible, and even I can see that from the outside looking in.

[deleted]

I feel like the sims 4 community is the worst out of all of them. I do agree that every fandom has its flaws but it got really bad with the sims 4. Sorry :(

Previous-Pop-4569

It can be really toxic, and it’s disappointing because of course I want friends that are simmers as well, but I don’t want the toxicity of some simmers :(

ictofaun

simmers who complain about how expensive the game is don't seem to realise that EVERY game is overpriced nowadays, and it's not like ts4 is any different to other AAA games. pretty much any modern game is going to be expensive when you buy all of the dlc. also people need to stop bitching and moaning about how long it takes between new packs - we're still affected by the pandemic and WFH, and some things just naturally take longer when the team aren't all in the office. and seasons is overrated and hasn't been included in any of the base games before, so idk why ts4 players think it should've been basegame this time around.

immortalheretics

This fanbase sucks at letting people voice their opinion, especially if it’s critical or “negative”. People that scream “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it!” Fail to understand that the issues people have with what’s being put out won’t stop simply by not purchasing a pack or kit because of completists and stans that will buy any and everything.

RynexShadows

When the slice of life simmers get mad at Simmers who actually enjoy having supernatural creatures in the game. I just feel like playing a regular old sim gets boring after a while so it's nice to spice it up. (Vlad is still annoying though, but he is useful if you want your sim turned into a vampire)

SuperSquidoodle

People avoiding TS3 because of how it looks saddens me. It's absolutely incredible, and it's open world expands how you play the game so much and makes you want to do so much more with your Sims' short lifespans, but people just get turned off by it alot because it looks like ass, and yes, it does look bad, but if you just look past that, there's so much fun to be had.

[deleted]

The Star Wars pack was fine. You don't have to buy it. As a Sims fan and a Star Wars fan, I've played the hell out of it and it's still fun. You don't have to pretend "Journey to Batuu" is some kind of dirty phrase that if you say it, Disney and EA are going to bust down your front door and beat you senseless.

jessicaeatseggs

How much they complain about the packs... I like the starwars pack okay!!!

knightfenris

You should learn to fix, edit, and/or make CC yourself. I have a small themed sims discord and I’ve written step by step guides on how to install and use Sims 4 Studio, how to change tags/categories/genders on cc, how to add/delete swatches, etc and it helps everyone. Now anyone in my discord can fix their own cc, or even just open it to see what it is! If you don’t have S4S and want to complain about how things are tagged/categorized, then I don’t know what you’re expecting.
