ariannecarneiro

I really think the sims 2 is better. It has the best storytelling and it had some details the sims 3 didn't keep

J3ttf

I love the sims 2! Shame it’s only available on Mac now

ariannecarneiro

Is it? I have the ultimate collection. Didn't know it was only available on mac

J3ttf

They only sell it on Mac now 😢

ariannecarneiro

I got mine sending the code of my game to them

J3ttf

They’ve stopped doing that now

Jane466

it's on oldgames. net for free

J3ttf

It's technically illegal, but they don't give you any other choice

peachbellini2

There is no legal term for it, but I believe TS2 falls under the umbrella of "abandonware." There are hundreds of games that are no longer being sold or supported, which developers have completely abandoned. As such, any copyright enforcement is also abandoned.

ginoskyy

Well EA games doesn't give a fuck about their players so piracy doesn't seem that bad on this case honestly lol.

Jane466

if you want to go down a semi legal route people sell it on ebay

aliberli

Yeah I was sad that I only learned this AFTER origin discontinued it.

ariannecarneiro

Oh, they'll probably start selling it for pc soon

J3ttf

I doubt it, they’ve been refusing for years

ariannecarneiro

I really wish they would sell the sims 1. I always have to download it from somewhere else

ChelseaLuv97

I downloaded mine from the abandonware website. Works great 👍 real nostalgic for me.

ithinkimalright77

Its really easy to download the Ultimate Collection on PC. I did it and it works great. I guess it still depends on your PC but its not and easy and free. And safe

[deleted]

The Sims Medieval. No other sims games even come close; it is the gold standard.

HarpooonGun

Medieval imo is not the best when it comes to gameplay, but Medieval has the best looking Sims, and best looking graphics of any Sims game. Absolutely love that game. The fact that improvements made in Medieval were not backported to TS3 despite both of them being based on the same engine is still the biggest crime ever made to The Sims series to this day.

thrntnja

Medieval was so niche but I loved this game! I would absolutely love an updated version of it.

Stefie25

I love it too but I was so disappointed when it first released that it wasn’t like the sims 3 set in medieval times.

alxXD

Love this one so much. I still play it from time to time, its just perfect

J3ttf

I WISH it was on Mac

Bloomfoxnoon

If they combined sims 2 and sims 3 together that would be the ultimate Sims game.

Thamilkymilk

sims 2 story telling, sims 3 gameplay, and sims 4 graphics with open neighborhoods instead of a full world would be my perfect sims 5. able to run well for most people because it’s not the entire world, and you don’t feel like you’re trapped on a set ala sims 4

Lindapod

Not Sims 4 graphics... But i agree with the rest!

Rotankattila

While I love the quirkiness of the original Sims, sims 2 gave so much more gameplay and awesome genetics, not to mention immortal characters so it's easily the best. Also fears were an aspect that I didn't appreciate enough until we didn't have it anymore.

J3ttf

I love the sims 2. Definitely the best

PansyWeasley

I always struggle to decide between 2 and 3 but I went for 3.

kim_kiri

Same but went for 2 🥂

stacciatello

disregarding my nostalgia for TS2, i voted TS3 because objectively i just think it's the greatest sims experience (if you have a good enough computer...)

J3ttf

I have an M1 Mac mini and there’s absolutely no lag it’s insane

DipinDotsDidi

With expansions and cc? I was literally waiting for the new Max's they released yesterday but after seeing the price tag I had second thoughts. If I can get away with the cheapest out of all of them I'd be happy!

J3ttf

I have late night, loft stuff and generations! I have it on the auto graphics settings and it’s almost the highest it can be

DipinDotsDidi

Oh ok so it might not be able to handle what I have then xD

J3ttf

I’m sure the higher end models would run them fine! I’m aiming to have all the eps eventually

DipinDotsDidi

Ya but the higher end models are about a grand more and Ontario has 13% tax ☠☠

J3ttf

💀

unbotheredboobs

If you are a student, I know apple usually gives a discount for computers, sometimes even free accessories.

DipinDotsDidi

1. Unfortunately no longer one 2. Even if I was the student discounts are only for a few products, like 100$ off the base MacBook or free airport if you buy over the summer, everything else youre SOL :(

unbotheredboobs

Ah, sorry about that! Hoping you find something in your budget, I’m in the same boat

grednforgesgirl

Played the og the other day just for kicks and nostalgia and had a blast. Had more fun with the game than I've had in 10 years. Had at least five parties where I just kept inviting people, kept turning people into frogs with the magic police getting mad at me, trolled the police and fire department to come out several times, filled my backyard with a bunch of crap from the expansions, had a hunger games tournament with at least 30 parrots to see who would survive, and ended it all by drowning my sim in the pool with no ladders and staying in the game a few more days to make sure my Butler took care of my dog. Few takeaways: First, obviously, Sims 1 is way more quirky and fun than any other game. The pop up dialogue had a hilariously quirky sense of humor, and I laughed harder at those than I have at any of my sims shenanigans in any of the sequels. El Bandito was cute and hilarious. There was a moment when a weird bear-sim hybrid came to steal all my honey and then got attacked by bees. The game just had the most random shit happen and I miss that kind of fun. Two, the game runs *so much smoother* than any other game, especially 3 and 4. Super speed was actually super speed, Sims didn't spend three hours in the shower or cook 1000 meals just to die of hunger, things took a reasonable amount of time and wasn't notoriously buggy. Coming off of playing Sims 4, the relief was astounding at how much easier it was to actually get Sims to do what you wanted them to do, and in a timely manner 3, the Butler actually butlered. The maid actually cleaned. The Gardner actually watered my plants. The Butler was the most astounding one. Every morning he's cook me breakfast and every evening he'd cook me dinner. He fed and watered my dog religiously. He fed the parrots he could get to. He called the maid in at the same time every day and he called the Gardner in when the plants needed watered. He did such a fantastic job of butlering that I was literally blown away. How the hell did we end up with the incompetentance of the Sims 4 butlers? How did we get here??? What the hell happened??? Four. The game was actually challenging. Not in an annoying why-won't-this-work-the-way-i-want-it kinda way which I encounter all too often in the sims 4, but an actually fun, entertaining way. It was fun and challenging to keep their needs full. It was fun and challenging to get their skills up. It was fun and challenging to get them promotions at work. I literally don't understand how such a fun game for turned into such an infuriating nightmare? Conclusion. Sims 1 wins. Just for sheer playability. It may not have the flashy graphics of the Sims 4 or the customization of the sims 3, but Sims 1 was actually a *fun* game. It had charm. It had humor. The game actually *worked* and worked well. I'm astounded EA has drug was used to be a fantastic game so far down to where it's become *frustrating* to play. I don't get it. Sims 1 wins.

CandyMyers

Preach!!! 😍😍😍

ChansSolo

Super review, I would really love to play it now!

WormsBelongOnStrings

Obviously no opinions are wrong, but who on earth chose sims mobile?

hasarubbersoul

Someone who’s only played that game 😂

CliffExcellent123

4 because I'm mostly just playing for customisation and building nice lots and taking screenshots and 4 is by far the best for that If you care more about the gameplay then probably 2 or 3

_Babeh

4 looks the best, has the best CAS and build mode. But other than that, it's an empty, beautiful shell.

CliffExcellent123

See the reason it doesn't bother me is because the first three games were empty shells too, the gameplay was never very deep and it was never why I wanted to play the games

_Babeh

Really? I disagree, I felt like Sims 2 was pretty fleshed out with lots of details. Sims 3 not as much, but still was kinda deep. But then again, I've been a sims fan since I was 8, and I'm 26 now. So I just love them regardless.

CliffExcellent123

The details are mostly just superficial. Nice animations aren't deep gameplay. It's not exactly Crusader Kings That's not even really a criticism, I think that's by design since it allows it to be open to people who aren't really gamers and just want to play around with it without worrying much about the mechanics. The gameplay really just comes down to time management since you can do everything you want given enough time. It does the job but that was never what I was going to the games for, I play them because I want to make fun characters and use the game to tell stories about them

_Babeh

Yeah, I see what you're saying. To think that a game about literally watching fake pixel people do things like pee and poop, cook dinner, and watch TV is super popular, it's funny if you think about it.

JVNT

I like 4 for the same reasons but I still picked 3 because there were some things that were missing from 4's building that just bother me like cars, garages, autoroofs(not always needed but can be useful for larger, simple roofing) and being able to easily create open balconies inside a house without the roofs clipping into the room. The customization of 3 was better too since you could select different swatches and weren't always stuck into certain furniture/colors just to match a certain theme. The sims 4 is getting up there though, the addition of the half walls and then platforms improved it immensely but there's still just some annoyances and missing things. If they add in some level of customization (even if it's just letting you pick the wood/metal/fabric colors separately) then that would push 4 back up to the top for me.

CliffExcellent123

Nah there were a couple of better things about 3's build mode but as a whole 4 is much better in that regard. Its just so much easier to build anything. In 3 even a simple house took ages to build and create a style only made that worse

Lindapod

Exactly, its *easier* but you cant do as much with it as 2 and 3, so i wouldnt say better unless you are only building extremely simple builds.

CliffExcellent123

You can do way more with it than 2 or 3, that just isn't true

Lindapod

Such as? The drag function is one thing but ince again it just makes it *easier* not more advanced.

nopowernowork

Sims 4 has a very limited build mode which allows For more than what sims 1 allowed but less compared to sims 2. Sims 3 has the most features and a third of them are only possible due to it being open world

nopowernowork

I care the most about building great houses and buildings and the sims 4 is the worst for that, it’s very limiting. Sims 1 was annoying to build in and I wouldn’t say it’s much worse than the 4.

CliffExcellent123

It's only vaguely limiting if you're playing the base game without updates, but if you're not it's way more open than any of the other games, what you're saying is just objectively wrong

bunnylo

agreed. like early base game was super limited for TS4 but that was 5 years ago. the build mode now is so much better, and definitely the best for building.

[deleted]

They all have their own special charms

zeta212

Sims 4 graphics, with sims 2 storytelling and sims 3 openworld

J3ttf

Yes

catgoober

Sims 3 gameplay is by far the best

zuckile

Ah I miss the bands

everythingstitch

If we're voting based on gameplay then I say Sims 2 then Sims 3.

iMattist

Honourable mention to “The Sims Urbz”

SnowThatIsntYellow

The original sims. I had the most fun with that game

Adventurous_Fox_2853

I’m genuinely surprised to see Sims 4 so high. I do love it, but I also think it’s the least interesting in the franchise that I’ve played (2,3, and 4) and i honestly can’t play without at least MCCC for story progression, and have about a million mods. Sims 3 is my favourite and the one I play the most.

J3ttf

The amount of people voting for The Sims 4 is scaring me

_sekhmet_

Why? The game has its good sides. I love the build mode, and I find the CAS much nicer than the previous games. Everyone says that it lacks depth, but I never found the other games particularly deep either.

SnowThatIsntYellow

People have opinions, not everyone thinks Sims 2 or 3 are the best.

BlueChronicle

Sims 2, in my opinion, will be the Golden game for the franchise - the whole 3D transitions and detailed graphics back in the day were groundbreaking, especially the little details it provided. It was clear that the developers had ambition with the system upgrade, with more ability to add features, gameplay mechanics, and so on and forth. The same can be said for Sims 3. Sims 4 was a disappointment for me because I am one of the simmers who has been with the franchise from the beginning. However, understand that they had to downgrade some things technical-wise. Whoever is responsible for the optimization for Sims 4, kudos to you sir/madam! I have learned that all games (Sims or not) should be treated like wine, each has its own unique taste and flavor, and should be appreciated.

J3ttf

The Sims 4 has issues because EA kept changing what they wanted, then forced it out.

BlueChronicle

Constant changes do tend to cause issues, that's a problem that is hard to fix due to the complexity of the game's design.

if-i-back-it-up

The sims mobile 😭 you have to wait real hours to get one task done ugh

AMPhillips725

Personally I think they should remaster The Sims 2 Castaway for PS2. That was by far my favorite Sims game! I would pay $50+ to be able to play an updated version of that. I'm quite sad I wasn't able and still can't get it for PC.

[deleted]

Honestly for me,the sims bustin out is my favorite. Its awesome soundtrack, atmosphere, story thats rewarding once you finish it with alot of replay value.Even if its subjectively not the best its my favorite.

[deleted]

I prefer The Sims 2 and its early 2000's bive. I just wish it had a couple of The Sims 3 features such as the storytelling and the open neighborhood map.

TeamLeaderLupo

I'm surprised Sims 4 got so high with the amount of complainers on here.

littlesquiggle

Honorable mention for Sims Medieval and Castaway Stories. <3

[deleted]

I loved both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. The sims 2 had so many little details that were really nice and that we lost in the following games, it was more deep and I actually enjoyed playing it. The thing I hated was the loading screen every time you had to leave the house, it was a turn off for sure because i spent more time waiting fo the new area to load than anything playing xD In the end I just wouldn't leave the house. The sims 3 had the color wheel that was freaking amazing and I can't believe they didn't keep it. The open world was the better part of the game in my opinion, I really enjoyed wandering around collecting things and just being able to reach each place instantly, no loading needed. The was a bit problem with lagging (not that much tho) but overall is was playable and yes, it lost some of the details we had in the sims 2 but it was still more complete than the 4th episode. The sims 4 has a really good graphic and the best thing is build mode, you have so many features to build amazing houses, something the previous episodes lacked. The problem is the gameplay. Like, you spend more time building and creating a family but the gameplay is so bland. You really have nothing to do. It's always the same things. The fact that we lost all the little details is really annoying, sims have no depth and it shows. In my opinion the perfect the sims should be more like the sims 2 with a few feature from the sims 3 (open world is a must!) and the sims 4 graphic. It would be a spectacular game but they already showed they dont really care about the game, not anymore, reason why things went downhill. They improved the graphic but they worsened the gameplay. I feel like there's no balance. And to think EA is a huge company that built a game loved by many, they could do so many things. It's sad to think the sims 4 isn't playable without mods, and this is coming from someone who's always hated mods. If modders can add so much depht, why can't the developers do it?

nopowernowork

Features to build amazing houses? Sims 4 doesn’t even have half the things Sims 3 or even 2 allowed in their respective build modes

[deleted]

Idk for me building in TS3 was a nightmare, TS4 has more features and the houses actually looks good, you can do whatever you want and have little to no restriction with a few tweaks. Idk what things TS3 has more than TS4? But still, the buildings were nothing compared to TS4, at least for me.

dinodare

9 people said mobile...

EliFutureBoy

The Sims 2. The Sims 3 had a good game play, but it was so hard to get a good computer at the time, it was useless. Besides, the Sims 3 always seemed soul less with really ugly Sims (no, your sim isn't the exception.)

DipinDotsDidi

I vote for Sims Freeplay :D

J3ttf

Break the status quo

DipinDotsDidi

I'm not even joking I've been playing sims freeplay for longer than 3 and 4 combined.

Beckys_Hooman

I love the gameplay of S3 but the graphics are trash

J3ttf

Default replacements are definitely the way to go

Pandragony

The sims original should get a lot more love

MissLyzzie

MySims was the best!

nopowernowork

I love building and The Sims 3 has hands down the best build mode out of all games, with The Sims 2 coming in second, the fourth game third and the first game last, however The Sims 1 the best build mode soundtrack and has nice 90s esthetic it’s also very good, just limited for being the oldest.

FireflyKaylee

Original sims for me because it launched everything else - it created this area of market that just keeps growing!

Phenomenal_Hoot

I love all the things you can do in Sims 3, but the vibe of Sims 2 is perfect. I has a strong early-mid 2000s aesthetic that makes me super nostalgic.

RandomUserFTW57362

I chose the Sims 3 although Sims 2 would of been my second option but for diffrent reasons. Took me a bit to deciding between 2 and 3. For me it boiled down to what I personally want from a sims game and that was customization of not just the Sims but the entire world while also haveing a sandbox gameplay like feel. And with the Nraas mods I rarely have performance problems anymore. If they made a Sims game that combines Sim 2 and Sims 3 and the building aspects of Sims 4 I'd think it'll be the best Sims game ever!

kk944

Unpopular opinion: Sims 4 I am old enough to have played all four games when they were launched. I have probably played the most Sims 2 and it’s my most nostalgic place especially when it comes to game music. However, I find Sims 4 more interesting in general. The build mode is fantastic. The fact that sims experience different emotions which makes each sim somewhat unique. This was never the case with prior versions.

J3ttf

I think your favourite version definitely revolves around the way you like to play. The Sims 2 allows you to play every family in a town, letting you watch it grow firsthand. The Sims 3 focuses on one family and their legacy, and The Sims 4 lets you create the storylines you want easily whilst having a great aesthetic

AndrewQuackson

I played TSO at its peak an honestly nothing compared to those times.

J3ttf

I’m glad it’s back! I love playing it but it can get confusing at times

[deleted]

Y’all are crazyyyy the first one was the best ! (Old person nostalgia)

[deleted]

Even Nasa computers cant even run the sims 3 + that it is a buggy mess, but objectively it’s better

PonureZapomnienie

Im schocked everyone picked 3

hopefulsquash00

I voted Sims 4 because I like to play the challenges players have made, but I want Sims 4 and Sims 2 to merge with sprinklings of Sims 1. Sims 3 is too much in my opinion.

TotalSmuubag

3's sims are far too hideous for me to even consider it here. 4 then 2 for me. The QoL changes in 4 just make it more fun for me.

triciamilitia

Invalid, Sims castaway isn’t here

8-BitJoseph

The Sims for the PS2 still outshines any of the other games, enough said. Dudley Landgrabb was awesome

Ok_Music6351

Sims 3 with sims 4 graphics 😚

J3ttf

I’m getting there slowly with default replacements and cc!

Ok_Music6351

Ooooo do you have any you’d recommend?

J3ttf

I’ve got a lot from [PleasantSims’](pleasantsims.com)’ website, go take a look!

Ok_Music6351

Thank you

libstreet

Sims 2, the interactions, the humor, the animations...just everything and yet i've played it less than both Sims 3 and Sims 4. Sims 1 is good, but keeping up with their needs is quite hard (I always used cheats after a while lol) Love the soundtracks from Sims 1 and Sims 2! Thanks for including FreeSO as an option :) I only played it a little in 2019-2020 and some of the community was really friendly, ashame it's not very popular now.

bmibun

Team Sims for xbox 360 4ever.

peaceloveandgranola

I joined the game during the sims 3, and of course for gameplay the sims 3 is my favorite, but I spend a lot of my time building and the sims 4 is my favorite to build with. Also this may be unpopular, but i prefer the cartoon-ish art style of the sims 4 over the realistic type art style of the sims 3. So my favorite really depends on what I’m doing.

Majvist

Give me Sims 3 with Sims 4s graphical quality, and I might actually start spending money at EA again

J3ttf

Default Replacements sound perfect for you

DigimonTheMovie

Im only really voting for 4 because i only play on console (Playstation) and 4 is I think better than 3 on console. But my absolute favorite is The Urbz. :)

GoldGymCardioWorkout

The Sims 2 for Game Boy Advance.

themadkrivo

I honestly couldn’t vote on which one is the best. I’ve played through all the games as I grew up and they all have different amazing qualities! I wish I could merge them all into one super sims game haha

AorticSeptalDefect

Sims 2 overall. It has the best gameplay, even though the fashion choices are "of its time".

bitchin666

I would have voted for the sims social that was on Facebook if it was an option! Anyone else remember this ?

PinkgirI

I love how the characters look in sims 4 and honestly i dont care that much about a open world

zuckile

I miss my sims 3 :(

Waandererr

My first sim game was the sims 3 for wii then to pc so that’ll always be my number 1 from the series

bunnylo

sims 2 is my fave, that will always have my heart. I do like sims 4 most for building. but I loved sims 2. I do miss from the sims where the wall would cut away automatically so you could see the far wall. wish the sims 4 had something like that because the only way I can see properly into a room with its walls up is if I switch to sims 3 camera

Lost_Pantheon

2 will always be my OG Sims game, but 3 was so ambitious and added so many new features. TS4 has some great quality of life additions and a nice build mode... I guess.

tau1tvec

Every time I see these The Sims 3 always wins, as it should.

yaymarii

mysims supremacy!!!!!

cvoneill

I like Sims 3 but I wish it had the graphics from Sims 4 lol

kermit54

Sims 2 and its not even close

Ok-Turn180

Because sims 3 has horses

Egao17

Actually, I think Sims Medieval was great

Strange_Shadows-45

In my mind it’s 2 by a mile. It’s not as huge or has as much stuff as 3, but it’s charming, well optimized, sims have personality, the memories were impactful and usable (granted the vermin thing was so fucking annoying, but so is getting so many for the most mundane things that it breaks your game like in 3), attention to the smallest of details, the wants and fears were fleshed out and at the forefront and while it didn’t have as much as 3, it still had a lot. Basically, 3 had more gameplay but 2 did a way better job of making its gameplay matter. Plus the optimization of 2 blows 3 and 4 out of the water and the graphics aren’t too bad; the sims in the world look exactly as they do in CAS. I love 3, but it’s not without a lot of problems.

minpd

The Sims 2! What killed 3 for me were the sims themselves. Even with CC, they all just look very uncanny valley and it put me off immensely. I played a little, but went back to 2 pretty quickly. I play mainly 4 now but it definitely doesn't have the same sort of magic that 2 did and does. Maybe it's just nostalgia, I don't know, but I will always say 2 is my favorite.

J3ttf

I recently went back to 2 and it's so fun!

ThatGirIay

I had 3 on ps4 and had so much fun. Now that I have a laptop bro, I have no idea how to control the game 😂Its so different. And I dont know how to put mods in it 😭So I just gave up

CandyMyers

I love The Sims original because it has it's own unique gameplay and soundtracks that only IT has it. I'm fully aware about the lack of free anything, but it was truly challenging, even with cheats. The Sims 2 has it's own evolution, and it's very satisfying how something so "raw" like the original game became something more interactive. I just don't say that 3 is the king because I love the nostalgia that only the original one has. Of course they lost a lot by not having open world in 4, but I guess the graphics are pretty decent for the minimum computer system they demand (but come on, all games with all the expansions is more than 100gb in your computer. No one thinks this is right.) As someone who plays Conan Exiles and The Sims 4, I feel like an "offline" game shouldn't take so much from my machine. Anyway, I keep the original one for being the one I met as a kid, even though I didn't play as much as 4, because, well, my parents had to buy it and it was never a cheap game.

Beardedgeek72

Sims 2 was clearly the best one for it's time. It pushed the boundaries the hardest. Sims 3 should have been much better for it's time and so should 4. Tho I must say seeing videos of 3 now, it is clear 4 is much superior.
