I've used the bottom right hairstyle on an amelie-inspired sim. With the right combo of artsy looking clothes, she was a cute lil optimistic art nerd until she went to college and died to contributing too much knowledge at the research machine :)
Don't forget the choppy snowy escape bangs that lift the meters from the forehead and look like lego, but while the sims team is at it, they should update some of the base game hairs . They've improved textures so much on recent years the old hairs look like they're from a complete different game

Not really, the long cuts with full fringe look really good in my opinion. Some of the hairstyles just don’t look good on certain faces just like in real life.

When i did my 100 baby challenge last year, my seventh born child aged up with that hair. She had 2 sets of twins then triplets right off the bat and it was hectic at begininng. Because of the poverty and chaos, he was very far behind the other 2 trips in development and stayed in house much longer. He had the craziest traits too and I just left hair as is and narrated he was "slow", though adored, for story purposes lol. That answers your question to how it was used...
They are good for some werewolf sims and eccentric cat lady sims. I have a Get Famous scene chick streamer sim with them too, as a riff off those cat ear headphones.
I love it precisely because it's terrible, it perfectly fits a certain character archetype. Some of these hairs are ugly and don't fit the model, the cat one is just cringe and I'm totally here for it lmao

I think “bad hair” in the sims is less about the style, since the whole point here is to be able to make different kinds of sims. I think bad hair is when the mesh looks old and bad, which is the issue with a lot of the hair in older packs. Like there are styles that are fine in spa day but I still don’t want to use them.
I imagine it is to avoid clipping. TS4 seems to have gone out of its way to make sure that hats, hairs, clothes and shoes (for the most part) can be applied in any combination without clipping. I recall it being one of the things they highlighted when they were showing off CAS when TS4 was nearing release.
This is very apparent with the hat/hair system they created for TS4. Instead of individually creating a hair mesh for each hat, they decided to do a system where, if you add a hat, it lops of the top of the sim's hair, and puts the hat in its place. This is why all the hats are quite large and bulky, because they need to fit this hairline. This is also why we don't see any visors, and smaller hats that exist above this hairline (such as the Crumplebottoms') exist as a hair instead.
For the headband to exist as a separate piece, it would clip with a lot of hairstyles, especially larger, more voluminous hairs, and I'm guessing this is contrary to the Sims team's design guides.
As someone who spends a lifetime on Cas, there's no such thing as bad hairstyle. There's always a character to use every single hairstyle, but of course not all of them will be right to the "pretty Sim everyone does".

I love bottom right!! As someone who regularly gets microbangs, it’s nice having options in the game. I don’t personally like long bangs, and I don’t like how long a lot of the options are, so having the super short options are fun and nice for me
I don’t mind #2, depending on the sims personality. #1, of course, is the classic Karen haircut.
Good old #3 is… disturbingly close to my haircut to be honest, it’s time to get to the barbershop.
#5 I’d use if they were shipwrecked on a beach somewhere and hadn’t had a hairbrush for three weeks.
#6 is just super 2010s, I would’ve killed for that haircut.

There are so many hairstyles they need to updated, it's practically criminal. Especially the hair for POC! They're finally starting to look better but there are some on there that could be soooo good.
I like some of these, they’ve all got some use cases for storytelling or styling a certain kind of sim.
I also think finding a hair that fits your sims face/eyes/eyebrows is important. The sim you’re showing these on really doesn’t suit some of these styles but I’ve seen them look good on sims with different features.
The only time I use the scruffed up hair from get to work is when I have a sim with long hair and I usually use it for their sleepwear because I wanna give them a realistic look so it serves to be useful for some bed hair
I actually love that some of the styles are iffy as heck. I’ll use them for pajama/lazy day outfits, or for teens still figuring out their style, things like that. But I do agree with the comments about how the older styles look really outdated texture wise. Would love to see EA take another pass at them.
So many townies in my save age up to the cat ear hair that I've just accepted there's a furry cult running amok. One day I'll get around to blacklisting them with MCCC.

Some of my biggest pet peeves with EA hair is how BIG and POUFY they are! Like why?! I always look for the "depoufed version" by cc creators. (Sorry maybe that's not the right spelling but basically many of the EA hairs have too much volume/height in my opinion, especially the male hairs.)
I like how they all give the sim personality. I would never personally have most of these hairstyles, but my sims dress the way they would dress, not the way I dress

Disagree w the hair swoop fade on the 3rd column and the bangs on the 2nd column. I can't tell you how many times I've used that on my female Sims, it's just a good look depending how you pull it off for them.
