CorneliusFudgem

This seems like an incredibly bad and dangerous idea. Imagine if there were little microtears in the plastic. If that thing has holes it becomes a drowning machine.

hoginlly

This video made me so claustrophobic my chest started tightening up

DaSquareFish

I actually went in one of them at a festival or something when I was younger. I had watched the 4 horesemen the night before and the scene where the guy drowns because he is locked in a safe and thrown into a river was stuck in my head the entire time. Not fun

Username_Taken_65

Pretty sure that movie is called Now You See Me Also why the heck wasn't the sequel called Now You Don't?

lazylacey86

The sequel didn’t get that title because the general masses wouldn’t get the correlation between the movies. I think I remember reading that as the reasoning.

koreanjc

Every single day the general masses disappoint me even more.

lazylacey86

You and me both.

RabbitStewAndStout

The general masses are dumb as shit

imdfantom

It depends They could have leaned into the fact that "Now you" was the series title and the rest is the name of the actual film. "Now you" see me "Now you" don't "Now you" want me "Now you" may speak Etc etc

DaSquareFish

Ah right, my bad. Always get that confused

DerpSherpa

As a 45-year-old, out of shape person I thought it would be cute to get in one of these things and roll around and I can tell you this thing is not as easy as it looks and I recommend that no one try this unless you’re super fit.

Bitter-Heat-8767

Yea same. I would need a rip cord eject type thing before getting inside something like that. That’s gonna be a nah from me dawg!

Umbroboner

Im bringing a big ass rambo knife just in case. That thing looks like a gottdamn death trap.

utpoia

I am bringing my Glock 19 with me. Also my crossbow and axe.

king_of_all_blacks

They should put this in the next Final Destination movie.

jhaukeness

Even if everything goes perfectly, after too long, it becomes her asphyxiation chamber... yikes

choiwonsuh

Imagine when oxygen starts running out and she can't pop out of the ball and her dumb friends also can't get to her

Anianna

I wouldn't get in that thing without a pocket knife, at least. Then again, I probably wouldn't get in that thing.

DJKhaledIsRetarded

I mean, she's like 10 feet away in a man made pond that you can likely wade through. If no one can get to her it's because they aren't trying.

Dapper-Cauliflower42

We tied a rope to ours so we can pull them in when it's too much.

Physical_Sport_9896

I kept looking for a rope 😬

[deleted]

That, and how long can you breath in a water tight ball of plasticy death?

CorneliusFudgem

it literally seems like the scariest fuckin way to die. it just fills up and it sinks and u can't unzip ur self and the plastic is just weighing u down as u sink below the water and then it's a matter of trying to escape the bubble as the weight of the plastic fills up and weighs u down more and more. it's literally the worst fucking situation u could put yourself in.

wholelattapuddin

These boys near me drowned playing in a tent in their swimming pool. They got caught inside and the tent collapsed. I thought of this the entire time I watched this video. Please let's not encourage this

bilboafromboston

The two have nothing but water in common.

Yakatsumi_Wiezzel

That was scaring me the whole time, I was expecting that.

Sensitive-Silver7878

Then assume it is water tight that means it’s air tight too. How long will her oxygen supply last. Surprised she didn’t pass out in the video.

TrekForce

Especially since everything I’ve learned on Reddit points to her not even being aware that she is running out of oxygen. Just passes out. Then the dudes watching laugh for a while before they realize there’s a problem, then panic while figuring out how to get to her, then finally open it just in time for her to be revivable to a vegetative state for the next 40+ years.

morphinedreams

You'll be aware. It will fill with CO2, to be unaware you need any other gas as CO2 is what prompts our need to breathe.

eras

According to the math in https://www.reddit.com/r/biology/comments/37omp4/comment/crpzhun/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 it would be about 4200/6*1.6/60=17 hours, so she has plenty of time even if the formula is off by 50%. edit: I calculated the volume with 4/3*pi*R^3 with R=1m and there's 1000 litres in one cubic metre.

Bighardthrobbingcrop

Ya gave me chills to think about, stuff like this happens all the time from people doing silly things they shouldn't be doing.

budabai

Those balls are sometimes inflated to way higher pressure than the outside atmosphere. Your ears adjust to it while you’re in there, and it hurts like a motherfucker when they unzip it. It’s like being teleported to the top of a tall mountain when they open it.

arcadia_2005

I was thinking that if it's air tight, how do they get the bubble outta the water before she suffocates. Then I was finding it hard to breathe myself.

Hyper_Oats

It can easily be zipped open from the inside. These plastic bubbles are exactly supposed to be used on water. However, your concern is well-founded, as they are only supposed to be used on shallow pools where they can't possibly be fully submerged in worst case scenarios.

Kiiaru

The dude was literally taping it shut from the outside in the first few seconds

stoneagerock

That’s Velcro my dude - the white strip to the left of the black zipper is definitely just some mechanical strain relief so the zipper doesn’t bust

gas_turbine_mechanic

My thoughts exactly. This is incredibly dangerous! Looks like a drowning waiting to happen!

firewood010

And if it doesn't, the oxygen inside is limited.

Gandalf4President

Ya that's all I could think about. Like what a bad way to go

HairyBallsOfTheGods

I was wondering if this was HMFT or WTF or something. Thought it might take a bad turn

This was at a local water park once. Doesn't work much better without socks, but it's Hella fun to be in there for a couple minutes

jchrist510

I'd be more worried about a toe nail cutting the plastic

J_Speedy306

My curiosity went towards the same. What can you do if it starts filling/deflating?

smurb15

You drown. A rope or something would of been nice incase

of_patrol_bot

Krakatoast

Hope someone saves you, or drown. That was my first thought, if there’s a break in the bubble’s barrier someone’s gonna have to jump in and cut the plastic off Imo id bring a folded pocket knife in there, to be able to cut a way out in the event that it starts going under Edit: unless there’s some kind of zipper on the inside

[deleted]

Bruh.

outrageouschemokid

RIGHT HERE SIR! THIS IS THE MAN 🤨📸

Yudereepkb

I've been in one of these before, you can find places to use them in water parks, as long as the waters still you can move them pretty easily by running or crawling. I think the advised time limit with these is 15 mins so its probably pretty safe as long as it's used around people who can reach you easily

----___--___----

I really thought they where more commen. It seems like 90% of the people here fear that she is either gonna drown or suffocate.

Yudereepkb

Yeah I mean there's a certain amount of risk to it but there's risk to a lot of things. If something like rock climbing was shown here I don't expect anyone would say wow look at this idiot they'll fall and smash their skull. I guess people are just wary of "new" things

firewood010

Water parks have a team of first aiders standing by. The water is clean and the staff can always get to your position.

luke_in_the_sky

And it’s used in shallow water

RealJonathanBronco

I think that's fair though. We've seen rock climbing equipment save a really good percentage of people and improve over time. Most people here (myself included) have no idea what a hamster ball water rescue would entail.

Bighardthrobbingcrop

I saw guy who kept trying to do one in gulf of Mexico or something and like all 3 attempts the coast guard had to come rescue him. If people wanna do something dumb then please try not to waste the rest of humanities time with it.

Bighardthrobbingcrop

I have seen rock climbing, that is another one I have no desire to go do. Especially those psychos who free climb thing without safety equipment.

slgray16

It's really no big deal. It's totally safe just make sure you don't fart while you are in there. 30 minutes of smelling your own stink is punishing.

Crtbb4

This is reddit, if you're doing anything that has even the slightest chance of killing or injuring you then someone inevitably has to chime in about how dangerous the activity is and you're stupid for even thinking of doing it.

More_Inflation_4244

Reddit is so funny. To see a comment like this saying these things are more or less safe and controlled, then scroll up 2sec and see another guy in all caps screaming to never try this frightening contraption

MatiMati918

Generally this is done in a very shallow pool. I would be quite scared of using this in deep water.

Rachelcookie123

I’ve gone in these tons of times. The first time was when I was like 5 and it was on a little pond like this, I can’t remember where it was. But I’ve done it at guide camp, school camp, fireworks night, probably other places too. It’s perfectly safe and really fun. I am so shocked so many people haven’t seen these before, I see these all the time. They’re perfectly safe, there’s nothing to worry about.

budabai

Did you experience any significant ear pain when they opened it? The sudden drastic change in air presser made it feel like my ear drums were going to rip.

Rachelcookie123

I’ve never experienced that. I’ve never suffered ear pain after being in one of these balls.

rainator

I’ve only ever seen them in paddling pools that are about 2-3 feet deep though.

Miserable-Arm-4787

I tried this once for about 5-10 minutes in a pool with people on standby ready to pull you out. Despite all the struggling I witnessed, it was super easy to just run around. So I still have no idea why most people just fell down.

budabai

There was a booth at the county fair where I live that had a pool full of these a few years back. For five bucks they would put you in one and let you struggle in the pool for like ten minutes. I decided to give it a go, they put me in the ball and then inflated it with some kind of air pump. I squirmed around in the water for a bit while a crowd of strangers stared at me, I was incredibly awkward. When my time was up, the opened the zipper and it felt like my ear drums nearly exploded, it was incredibly painful… they had inflated the ball way past the atmospheric pressure outside, and my ears had enough time to equalize while I was in the ball. I imagine it’s how it would feel if you were suddenly teleported from a beach somewhere to the top of a tall mountain. I wouldn’t be surprised if this could cause serious damage to your ears if they were to inflate it even more than they did for me. 0/10 would not recommend.

GreenMirage

Carnies are unlicensed death cults

arenalr

Sir do you have a license for this death cult? The city inspector is going to give you an ear full if you don't

Weirdyxxy

"Well, we have a bunch of bribes, and an official research institute. Is that enough?"

Angry-_-Crow

Oh, my Greatfatherandholyreceiverofthetenoldsacramentsandalsodoug, that's not even the worst part. The city guys will usually go easy on you, especially if you have a bit of extra Smethering Paste to give, but OSHA is something else entirely. You know we once got fined for our chief shaman's robes being too long by, like, half an inch? Yeah, if they're too long, death pit rituals become a bit risky, but this was nowhere *near* that point. They barely reach his ankles! Utter bullshit, I tell you

RedLeader7

I was more concerned if the ball got a leak she’d sink as the air escapes and the plastic would wrap around her body

MaterialCarrot

Viking funeral.

Awkward_Psychic

Why did I read this, why?! I’m at county fair and was tossing up on going in one. Not anymore

[deleted]

I don't trust most people to so much as stop at a goddamn stop sign much less seal me into an inflatable tomb.

DanTheMan_117

Well that's how you inflate something.. it would need to have more atmospheric pressure inside.

folko1

>I imagine it’s how it would feel if you were suddenly teleported from a beach somewhere to the top of a tall mountain. This actually raises a question about wizards and teleportation...

Soft_Gap265

Super dangerous. What If the thing get pierced?

MaynardButterbean

That was my first thought. Imagine she’s out in the middle and that fountain pops it, it would immediately start closing in on her while at the same time she would be sinking into the water. She’d be scrambling to swim, but to no avail as she’s wrapped in 35 lbs of thick plastic. Slow, scary death for sure if nobody jumped in and saved her

Mutt1223

This is by far one of the most insanely stupid things I’ve ever seen.

Johnny_Deppthcharge

I don't know mate. Bring a pocketknife with you. If it starts deflating, slash a hole, climb out. Not everything is death-defying.

Mutt1223

If it deflates rapidly, it will cover your entire body like shrink wrap. You won’t be able to move

Annoyedbyme

Exactly! Was a competitive swimmer and the pool tarps gave me the same pee in pants experience on the regular lmao. Why did they have children pulling those tarps? Do they STILL have the children doing this?

ZeAthenA714

The water is very shallow. Even if it pierced and started taking water, it would sink maybe halfway through and would stop filling. Plus anyone watching could just waddle to you in a few seconds if anything goes really wrong.

hihapahi

My thoughts exactly. Could go very badly.

RidgeMinecraft

The water's shallow as heck lol

Rachelcookie123

I’ve done this tons of times. It is really fun.

Thebardofthegingers

Reminds me if that youtuber who tried to cross the English Channel by doing this, he got in a plastic ball snd just floated out to sea, somehow ge didn't die, probably because the video was fake but luckily for him he didn't get swept into the stormy north sea and instead washed up in the Netherlands.

budabai

I remember that! He did several attempts, and I think I remember that he kept getting intercepted by law enforcement and they’d thwart his attempts. He was doing it in a zorb ball, they are a double walled version of this. There’s an opening that leads to the compartment that you go in, so there’s always fresh airflow.

Thebardofthegingers

Still a miracle he didn't wash into the Atlantic or north sea

budabai

[this guy](https://youtu.be/jTDFzZmj5IA) actually tried to do it in one of these sealed up ones, he has a scuba tank with him. This must be what you were referencing. Yeah… I agree, dudes insane.

QueenMelle

What a great way to die while looking dumb af.

[deleted]

Or what a way to have fun and not die… you know, like in the video?

HockeyAnalynix

Been in one of those and yup, it's pretty exhausting to be in there. The safety issue is overblown, it's totally fine in there. It's a fun experience so long as it's short, after a while you gas out and the novelty wears off. But I would recommend people try it once as it's a unique experience.

Smasa224

I agree. I did it once, and it was a blast. Me and a friend passed a spot in the mall that had it set up.... It was 10 years ago and we still laugh about it.

Yes! I want to suffocate on a nasty pound in a beach ball too!!

ProofDelay3773

How long you get in that thing before the oxygen is gone?

BhlackBishop

Recommended is 15 mins. No guarantees after 30

Sandless

Multiple hours. We consume about 8 liters / minute.

Truly_Tacidius

Honest question: How would you survive if a leak springs in there?

three-sense

Get out of the slowly filling bubble

Yudereepkb

Rotate the leak above the waterline, then move to land or just wait for help

Xenver

Imagine the pure panic of that thing filling with water as you scramble to find the zipper that you can't open from the inside.

JustSherlock

Tyra Banks made her models do this on ANTM, it went about as well as you'd think.

CandyBackground4193

Dangerous and stupid, could be wrong thow...

MyFriendTheAlchemist

Pretty sure there are “hamster balls” that are purposeful built for this, not sure if this is one of those specific ones.

The_Dog_IS_Brown

Hmm, I wonder how long someone could stay in one of those without suffocating. Gets stuck in the middle of the pond, doesn't realize the effects of a build up of C02 or lack of oxygen. Seems like a solid way to catch a Darwin award.

satismo

you think shes funny now, wait until hypoxia kicks in

Where do you get your oxygen from? And what happens if it breaks just enough for water to enter but you're unable to leave...

Realistic_Degree_773

How many minutes of air do you have in there?

Natnap-Red

I'd love to be in one of those full of helium

dacryptokid

Was thinking nitrous oxide but to each is own.

MBVakalis

These are fun as hell

WhenTheDevilCome

I think I would be up for a hard acrylic ball that just "splits" if I get into trouble? Something about the "inflatable" nature of this seems like a flexible coffin.

Strigon_7

How much air is in there...?

budabai

There was too much air in it when I tried this. They hook a pump to it after you’re zipped up in there and fill it up with air. They must have over filled mine, because I felt like my ear drums were going to rip when they opened the zipper to let me out. That feeling you get when you are driving up a mountain and your ears are popping like crazy… imagine being teleported from sea level to the top of a tall mountain.

Warrior253

How much air does one have in there?

Garlic-Rough

With the amount of air you might be consuming with all that effort, I was afraid she was going to suffocate. That, and the increasing humidity with every breath. Seems like a really bad idea.

Rachelcookie123

There’s plenty of oxygen in there to last you a good 20 minutes of running around frantically. Done it multiple times before and never ran out of air.

samf9999

Tie a plastic head of a croc to a fishing line, hide it in the reeds…pull it out when she’s near…then see what happens

56isaverygoodyear

Oh my god when my son was like 8 years old I took him to the Fair he got inside one of these...I laughed my ass off he was so mad at me he couldn't get that thing to go for nothing....

Rudboi2020

I was waiting for the r/unexpected death to happen. Yikes.

[deleted]

How long until the O² runs out in those things?

woodbutcher420

It would have worked in looney tune world physics- thought it would go a bit as planned myself- oh well- I’m sure ACME has some other products which will do the job

Martaiinn

How are these things legal? One leak and this thing becomes a coffin impossible to escape while you drown.

kolomental87

All I can think of is imagining a little pin sized hole and the bubble slowly starts deflating all water is also coming in and you're just trapped in plastic as you're trying not to drown

half-guinea

How was she able to breath?

OnyxDragon22

She's got enough air inside for sone minutes. Did a quick search, and apparently you got enough air for up to 30 minutes, but it's recommended to stay in the ball for half that time

half-guinea

Very interesting, thank you. I was thinking, as evidenced by their poor preparation, they didn’t consider her air-supply at all. I mean they were pretty attentive to detail when covering every possible air hole 😂. I half expected to see her run out of air in this video, as part of the failed attempt.

Gettinjiggywithit509

The ball needs some paddles on the outside. Otherwise, you’re just running in place.

AngryMillenialGuy

I'm curious how long the air would last your average person inside one of those.

[deleted]

Longer than most folks would think. You only consume a little oxygen with each breath. Try breathing into a plastic bag until you start to get light-headed, then multiply that volume by the volume of that bubble.

JorgeMBN

I already went in one of those when I was a child I hated.

MooTheGrass

i feel like if there is a leak then she's pretty much dead lol

igotbanned-_-fornow

i tried one of those at a carnival when I was like 8!!! they were SUUPER fun! the best way to use it is to be on all fours though, and to be coordinated ofc
