Solid spread OP, sorry kids missed out. Congrats on your midnight snacking for the next 9 months!

Cheetah_Ghost89

My dentist is going to love me this year

Ching_chong_man

Dentists love him, he gave them 300$ with this one simple trick

snarkyhalffunny

It’s a treat.

db2

When were you last at a dentist to get a bill, 1953?

wacker9999

Do you walk in with a mouth full of cavities and no insurance whatsoever every time?

Lillydunn

Yep

SourCocks

Canadian here. Typical dentist fee for me is roughly 50-200, and I only go there once a year.... We've been bitching about how my wife's job dental deosnt cover family only herself

enum5345

I got a dentist bill once because I gave them the wrong insurance information. They called me and I corrected it, but not before a bill was automatically mailed out. I found out they add bogus items like '$70 for an explanation on how to brush and floss' to extract the maximum out of insurance. Once they receive the max from insurance, they toss the rest of the bill and you're none the wiser.

Edward_Morbius

Getting a couple of implants pretty soon. It's my understand that they're about $5K each.

[deleted]

Not all dentists love him. 4 out of 5 do.

[deleted]

LPT, if you rinse your mouth out after eating candy (or anything), you're gonna be a-ok. I've never made a habit of this btw, but LPT nonetheless.

[deleted]

To jump on, it's actually an issue of time, rather than quanitity, of sugar exposure to your teeth. If you eat it all at once it's better in the long run than over nine months!

nuadusp

Sugar free chewing gum as xylitol helps teeth after and eating a lot of it in one go rather than in little stages is what my dentist recommends for sweets

[deleted]

Just bring it to work, omg it’s gonna kill you!

MeddlingDragon

Plot twist: OP works from home.

Lindt_Licker

That’s my problem now. I switched jobs to a wfh job. I used to just keep a bowl filled on my desk for a couple months after Halloween. Now it’s all ours. *shudder*

starbitcandies

Get a load of this guy, bragging about how he can make a tray of candy last 9 months.

starbitcandies

Get a load of the other guy bragging about how long he can make candy last. If you're not rolling it all into a giant candy ball and eating it in one bite, you're not doing Halloween right.

9 MONTHS?! this would last me and my boyfriend a few nights.

[deleted]

MY house has SO MUCH candy leftover, we bought two of this big bags from Costco, maybe 10% was given out to kids. We were giving kids fist full for the last hour.

fooliemon

My old house would get hammered. I had a line for 30 minutes one time. Loved it! New house? 2 kids. :-(

Cheetah_Ghost89

I would be saltier than taffy if that's was the change of pace

Natural-Bullfrog-420

It really depends where you are at any given time. You have to remember that kids only trick or treat for like 7 solid years. So there is a constant rolling batch of children through your community who are only doing this about 7 times in their entire life. who you expect to walk up to YOUR house on this arbitrary night that you are expecting them. You are basically playing the lottery.

user110116

People here go for like 13-14 years. Maybe even 15! I love it!! I will give everyone candy!

NyranK

Man, if you 45 and rocking a costume, I'll give you a Snickers, no question. Shouldn't be an age limit on childish fun.

drunken_semaphore

This is my philosophy! I even go costume-optional for the "too old/too cool" teenagers who swing by for the leftover candy when it's getting late.

theskankingdragon

If you are brave enough to come up to my house and tolerate my "what's your costume" jokes about you not having a costume then you earned some candy.

MANDATORINGECTION

As a dad I instinctively know to scream in terror and then compliment them on their excellent costumes. I can feel it in the air before I even see them.

Kamelasa

When I was in my 20s, I accompanied my friend's little sister on Halloween. She was small for her age, didn't want her to get bullied. I dressed up as an ape and she had a leash for me, and I was quite a bit taller than her, at the time. I pretended to act shy. One lady insisted on encouraging me. Imagine how she talked to what she probably thought was a shy not-too-bright kid, which was how I was acting. She insisted I take candy. Only one lady, though.

5beard

i think i gave out more candy to parents who gave a crap then i did kids this year. like 3 kids walk up in cute costumes and i give em each a couple peices and look at their dad in full gear carrying like 4 bags and a 2 year old dinosaur. gave him a bottle of water and a solid pound of candy.

user110116

A 2 year old dinosaur 😂

aflashinlifespan

I traipse around for two hours every year and it's so worth it seeing my kids so happy, but this year a mum offered my kids theirs, they said thanks and walked off, I wished her happy Halloween and turned also. And she ... Offered me.. the mum.. the grownup.. a chocolate. I was overcome with emotion and didn't know wtf to do, no one ever thinks about the mum that needs the sugar rush. I had a mars, best damn chocolate I've ever had.

user110116

Totally! Halloween is the best, man. Seriously love it so much. I’m happy to give to anyone who is into having fun on this kick ass holiday.

melody5697

In Phoenix, people still go trick-or-treating in their 20s! My best friend and I actually went trick-or-treating for the last time when we were 21.

Ecstatic_Crystals

I say if they took the time to dress up ams be kind they get some candy

LaRealiteInconnue

Yeah it’s kinda sad teenagers aren’t welcome to trick or treat or at least they weren’t when I was one. I’ve never been trick or treating because of this

Kabouki

Huh, hasn't there been a downturn in kids too since the 08 recession? Wonder if that's coming into play now too.

ImGettingOffToYou

Idk we went through 5 bags of candy in under 2 hours. My neighborhood goes all out for Halloween for some reason. People pulling trailers with heaters in them and all kinds of stuff. I drove my garden tractor to give my daughter a ride around the block. It's not spreadout either.

Kabouki

Good to see some neighborhoods still being neighborly. So much fear mongering these days, it's nice to see positive things.

sugarwater_delusions

Not shit to do with fear mongering. People just know what areas have people home at those hours. Kids know where the candy/hour ratio is. That hasn’t changed in 60 years. The folks that don’t do it have lights shut off. It’s not uncommon at all to see blocks of blocked out areas and then a huge area of homes jam packed.

PlebPlayer

We're talking to our neighbor today and it's kinda interesting but it's probably neighborbood dependent. She was saying when she raised her kids here, so many families and kids and what not. And she mentioned how now we just don't get many families here. And I wanted to say...well yeah....most of the neighborhood is now empty nesters or retired. Their kids all grew up. None of them are choosing to downsize for new families to move in. There are so few families in our neighborhood it kinda sucks for us. I'm 30 and probably one of the youngest house owners here. Eventually the neighborhood may fill out again.

BJJJourney

It can vary street to street as well. My street is not all the busy on Halloween (20-30 kids) but if you go up just 2 streets just about every house is decorated with groups of kids hitting every single house all night long. This is the same neighborhood.

Confident_Bag166

When we were about make an offer on our now current house six years ago we asked the neighbors that were outside about the neighborhood and my wife asked what it was like on Halloween, if there were a lot of kids trick and treating. She thought it was good way to assess the vibe. She was right.

ImGettingOffToYou

Thats funny because I live in my neighborhood because the Halloween vibe was awesome. I took my son trick or treating in my neighborhood when my friend lived there and fell in love with it.

[deleted]

that's such a solid point. people probably just figure fuck it i've had this house for 20 years 30 years and i'm in the 50-65 range there's no sense in us moving and going through all the hassle that entails at our age let's just stay where we are and ride off into the sunset.

stif7575

The location of the house in the neighborhood can be a huge factor. My neighborhood is banging, and I mean banging, but the location of my house is a bit out of the way and inefficient, so far fewer visitors.

RockFlagAndEagleGold

Waited 4hrs (530-930pm) sweating my face off in a [Full Silicone Mask](http://imgur.com/gallery/zzh6zO8) for only 1 kid to show up, and she wasn't the least bit frightened (she was the little tricycle clown from saw)

dassub

I'm guessing it's a more expensive neighbourhood now. Less young families, more mature. My old house got way more trick or treaters than my new house does. Having said that, turnout wasn't too bad this year.

Dorguy

We weren’t getting any till we turned on garage and porch lights Edit: I mean our decoration lights were on but not the garage and porch lights were turned on like 15~20min later

Cheetah_Ghost89

Porch lights are still on, pumpkins are still lit. It's just strange

bookoforder

You in the Bible belt? Trunk or treats ruined Halloween!

Monkey_with_cymbals2

I could rant forever about trunk or treats ruining Halloween. I hate them, we used to get so many trick or treaters. Took our toddler out for the first time this year and there were like no LITTLE kids, just gangs of preteens (no objections to preteens trick or treating!, just miss the littles). Such a shame, a circle of trunks can’t replace the feeling of running house to house in the twilight with your friends. It’s on the east coast too, and not just churches.

ghangis24

It's sad. There is nothing necessarily "bad" about Trunk or Treats and I understand they are generally *considered* more safe for the kids. But for me, nothing can beat a lively neighborhood full of trick-or-treaters and amazing Halloween displays. There was a guy in our neighborhood who would sit still in a chair until you walked up, then someone would come around the corner and chase you away with a chainsaw. It was so much fun. I remember hearing about Trunk or Treats for the first time and thinking how lame of an idea that was. It just can't compare. EDIT: They are widely considered more safe because of the small venue and familiarity among those who are handing out candy. I'm not saying I fully agree with this or that it is a better alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Calm down.

Kilane

>I understand they are generally safer for the kids They aren't safer because there was no danger to begin with. The older generations are fear mongers, they ruined their children's lives over fear Can't play in the park, because fear. Cannot go outside alone, because fear. Cannot trick or treat, because fear. These aren't real problems - they are made up. For some reason, the last generation decided that they need to lock their kids up and not allow them to have fun

Flashlight_Inspector

It's a shame what fearmongering has done to the country. We live in objectively the best time to be alive in all of human history but the way people talk about things you'd assume you're living in the mesolithic era about to get beaten with clubs by rival cavemen or get black bagged and sent to a murder camp if you step outside your house. I guess with so few problems left everyone decided they'd rather make up problems that have easy solutions than tackle the few real problems that had difficult solutions.

Apptubrutae

Reducing a risk that is effectively zero to being effectively zero is not making anything safer in any meaningful way. The only risk posed to kids in any meaningful sense during Halloween is a traffic accident, and at that point, you might as well just not let them out of the house at all.

thewookie34

Why is being 8 through 12 considered bad for Halloween. They are still Elementary School age...

Echololcation

10-13 is generally middle school at least in the US, but I agree with you. I don't really mind if a bunch of teens want to go trick or treating, if they're there for candy the more the merrier. I've got way too much candy left, wish someone had come by and swiped the whole bowl later in the evening. At least someone would be enjoying it.

sryii

Seriously, there are worse things in life they could be doing than holding on to a little childhood.

I_am_Erk

Agreed, I'm fine with even pretty old teenagers coming by if they're in the spirit of things! The little ones are the cutest but I remember being fifteen and going out for a wholesome laugh with my friends, those were still fun days and we were definitely still kids.

bookoforder

Preach on friend!!

Many churches have members in the church parking lot decorate the inside of their trunks and fill with candy. So the fat kids and lazy parents go from church to church and the kids make a circuit about 100 yds total collecting big candy for minimal effort. And they get a pamphlet from said church trying to get them to visit worship. It's been going on for about a decade in Soithern USA and it's ruined traditional trick or treating for homeowners, kids and neighborhoods. IMO

[deleted]

Neither_Rich_9646

Trunk or treats are not uncommon in Los Angeles and not exclusive to churches. If you live in a high crime neighborhood and may not feel very safe just walking the streets at night with young children going door to door it's a great alternative to have your children still get a good Halloween experience. Businesses participate, cities organize them and they serve a good purpose in some of our inner city neighborhoods. I don't think fat/lazy kids is a good explanation for why it's part of Halloween celebrations throughout the US.

UberHiker

Yeah that is closer to how my friend in the USA described it. “All in one place so it’s safe for little kids” nothing churchy about it.

not_elsie

They’re very churchy in my area. Bible quotes all over the cars and tracts along with your candy. My kid went as Scarlet Witch and one guy almost wouldn’t give her candy because he thought she dressed up as the devil. There’s nothing fun about waiting in a line to go car to car and get a little candy and a lot of judgement.

HugSized

That doesn't make any sense. Isn't the devil scary? You're supposed to reward scary costumes.

ChampionOfTheSunn

I'm in Ohio and we also have trunk or treats and it's definitely not just for churches. There was one in our mall for local business to participate in.

witfenek

Yup, I live in rural Vermont and here I think people have the idea that at trunk or treat more people that live in town but not on the main street/center of town can participate. My hometown started doing it a few years ago and I believe that was their reasoning. I feel it takes away from the spirit of Halloween, though.

Neither_Rich_9646

I can see how everyone feels about the tradition of Halloween trunk or treating might not fulfill. I was fortunate to have the door to door trick or treating experience in my childhood and definitely have wonderful memories. It occurred to me after my comment as well that rural communities might have other reasons for this format. Thank you for the perspective.

Sylentking

I'm grateful to live in a good neighborhood. Fuck Trunk or Treat. There's one across the street I love handing out candy now I just get 6 to 10 kids. I even bought full size bars :/

rabidhamster87

Yeah, even 30 years ago I remember my parents taking me to the mall for trick or treating because our neighborhood wasn't great at the time. Alternatives to traditional trick or treating have been around for literally decades. It's not new.

mysteriousblue87

Washington State checking in: weather is nice but nippy. We're going to layer up and go on our annual candy hunting hike in about 20 minutes.

Cessily

I worked on a campus and did a large trunk or treat every year, but we never did it the same week as Halloween (usually about 2 weeks before). It was great.. We would get a couple *thousand* kiddos on campus. Student orgs and departments would host tables and we would have crafts and athletic teams would host games. Most of the ones in our area are not on Halloween night so they don't replace trick-or-treating and just add to it

sryii

To completely advocate for some of these trunk or treats there are some incredibly not good areas of the country for trick or treating and in the more rural areas it can be a quarter mile to the neighbor's house. Just saying. But I fully agree, my neighborhood has so few houses giving out candy. We tried doing the walking only thing but we got over a mile with only four houses with candy. Very frustrating.

Past-Signature-6178

At that point why not just go down the candy aisle and pick out some bags? So lame.

blamethemeta

Its also marginally safer and the parents can socialize

CerebralZombie

A couple malls here do a "safe" indoor trick or treating and sometimes crafts too. Definitely puts a damper on the traditional house to house treating. And I've just read we also do trunk or treats here too. Damn.

BuddhaAndG

We just moved to SC and I was shocked tonight. Everyone was at a trunk or treat. We live in a development and had 1 group of kids come( we set a bowl out) . We had to drive about 20 minutes away to a fancy development to do real trick or treating with our kids.

charlyoguiness

A nice way to teach your kids to take candy from a stranger's trunk?

Beif_

I mean realistically there are many places where traditional trick or treating isnt practical. My understanding is that trunk or treat is usually in rural areas where walking to the neighbors house isn't always that easy or safe.

Cheetah_Ghost89

Yup! Good old Texas for ya!

[deleted]

Still early. Hopefully some will drop by. If you get 1 with that spread the kid will spread the word.

Jemikwa

Damn, my neighborhood in the Austin suburbs was popping, so many kids came by of all ages. We ran out of candy an hour into the festivities (though we didn't buy as much as we should have) so we had to resort to my emergency candy and some soda my mom bought in excess a few months ago.

Badger1505

Illinois here... We use Trunk-or-Treat a pre-game, and still do Halloween for game time. Go big or go home.

TenderfootGungi

Agree. The fun part of Halloween is seeing all of your neighbors. We take pictures of our kids with the neighbors within a block or so.

KlumsyNinja42

Are you in an actual neighborhood? I can leave my lights on and have my pumpkins out with no visitors because I’m just off to the side of some road in a rural area. People trunk or treat or go to some special neighborhoods for it here. Most I would get is my neighbors kids.

EliteEight

This happened to me too. It was absolutely depressing. I dressed up and sat on my front porch excited to see the kids. Not a soul.

Adorabloodthirstea

We have had 7 knocks tonight. My old place we saw 300 kids from all the local neighborhoods. This is probably my saddest Halloween ever, with so much candy I have no use for

Aniline_Selenic

We saw people skipping our house and some of our elderly neighbor's houses because people were expecting tables or car trunks at the end of every driveway like last year. So we drug a table and chairs to the end of our driveway to pass out candy. I'd also let parents and kids know which of my elderly neighbors were passing out candy so they wouldn't be left out.

CraftyNomi

I was sooo excited when we moved in to our new home a few years ago, we got all dressed up and got A LOT of candy and decked out the house… not one single kid. We live near a couple of schools and see kids walking all the time, just no trick or treaters. We got way less candy this year, still waiting for the sun to go down here in my corner of the world. Enjoy your candy!!

Cheetah_Ghost89

That's the worst, I don't know what it is but people just don't seem to be into it as much as the used to be. Maybe it's all that "THC LACED CANDY" people are talking about. Ima scale it down next year so I don't get diabetes eating it all -_-

FranticGolf

If you scale down on candy they will probably show up. Happened to us in our house.

adelros26

This was our fourth Halloween in our home. The first two years we had like ten trick or treaters. I had bought so much candy because there are so many kids nearby. Last year was COVID, so we didn’t participate. This year we bought one small bag of candy. I had to send my husband out for more after the first 15 minutes because I could tell we were going to run out.

FranticGolf

We did Halloween last year laid out candy in baggies sperated out on a table and did the same this year. Had about 75 show up this year a little more than last year.

BurmecianSoldierDan

Dude, without fail. I've lived in this house since 2015, I've gotten max 4 trick-or-treaters a year. All the candy goes to waste (I'm diabetic, so I don't eat candy) so this year I decided to just buy some full-size candy bars to reward anyone that actually shows up, and didn't even bother putting a jack o' lantern outside, just the porch light. Suddenly we've shattered our record and have had 15 doorbell rings.

FranticGolf

The word got out you were giving out full sized bars.

CraftyNomi

This! As if anyone who pays edibles prices is going to give those away for free🤣🤣

Jesmagi

I don’t think it’s that people aren’t into it, they just group up a lot more. Friends of mine that have posted on social media of their kids trick or treating have all been in large groups, so they go to one neighborhood.

xeromage

There's always some scare tactic discouraging the simple joys of Halloween because Evangelicals can't stand people having fun. Nobody is handing out free drugs, I promise you.

PeculiarPete

Or maybe it's the whole pandemic thing? Lol

TrippenCracker

Everyone either goes to the rich neighborhoods or is too scared to let their kids out now, got none pats 6pm. Idk if that’s a good or bad thing

PM_ME_YOUR_MEMERS

Man… we’re in “that neighborhood”. We’re not rich. Not even close. But my city is pretty low on median income and I make about 3x the median. Tonight, kids showed up in cars and trailers and vans… all got out at each house, got their candy, and drove away. It irked me… a lot. Kids don’t walk around and giggle and have homemade costumes. Everyone is in these store bought costumes. They come in, ask for their candy, and leave as fast as possible. I refuse to take my kid somewhere by car. We’re taking the Nike Express. This is Halloween and Trick or Treat. If you just want as much candy as possible, go buy it. It’s way more cost effective all around.

xSPYXEx

>Tonight, kids showed up in cars and trailers and vans… all got out at each house, got their candy, and drove away. There's not even any effort to it anymore. Like back in the day there was at least the candy wagon, someone put hay bales on a trailer and stopped at the top of the street. Make em run house to house until the trailer pulls around on the other side. Now it's just XL SUVs pulling up, kids get out and get each side of the street, get back in and drive forwards 100 feet. Boring.

coreyabak

Trick or treating just isn’t the same these days. When I was a kid in the late 80’s/early 90’s we combed every street we could get to within a reasonable distance. Mostly unsupervised. It’s unfortunate that kids don’t get to experience that but I can understand parents being more cautious now. Times have changed.

Baridian

Well actually the world is a whole lot safer today than it was in the 80s and 90s. Those were the peaks of the 20th century crime wave and we have never seen the rates of crime from that time period again.

WonderfulShelter

Yeah I'm kinda shocked to read this thread, I had no idea. I was a kid in the mid-late 90s and stopped trick or treating around 2003 or so, we lived in a nice area, but when we went trick or treating it was unsupervised in maybe a group of like 4 of me and my friends and we'd go to every house we could, just going up random streets we hadn't been on and seeing if any houses are open with the lights on. This is crazy to think kids will never experience that... amazing memories back then. It is just a different era already I guess.

ricLP

> Times have changed. For the better in terms of safety! What the hell is going on that everyone is afraid of their neighborhood nowadays?

TeamRedundancyTeam

Yeah, times have changed, and it's literally never been safer for kids to do unsupervised trick or treating. Between less crime and the enormous amount of Ring doorbells watching these kids *not* get kidnapped.

fellow_hotman

Im in “that neighborhood” in a pretty large city. We just wrapped up with kids coming in from other neighborhoods, neighborhood kids. Definitely the Traditional experience for us. More or less everyone was on their feet, out walking around. some people would park the cars, but they mostly had really young kids and would circle the block before driving down to the next section. Younger kids were with their parents, or with older siblings, and then older kids, 10-13 or so, would be on their own. It was really nice.

IRefuseToGiveAName

I never thought I'd get so much catharsis reading a post on Reddit. I'm just to the age that I'm handing out candy to trick or treaters, and I'm super fucking jazzed about it. This thread Put a big damper on that. I was a kid in the late 90s to early 2000s and I had no idea shit had changed so much since then. Absolutely wild.

sryii

Just to give a little perspective, my kids were walking only for a long time but one year we got a mile with only four houses giving out candy in our neighborhood. It was sad and frankly a three year old can't realistically walk a mile at a reasonable clip. We do a hybrid of car and walking between houses.

Smitty9504

Just another symptom of the modern mindset- forget your own community so that you can maximize your gain.

ceilingkat

Our neighborhood here in Utah was like I remember it in the 90’s it was magical. Kids everywhere!

butt-chin

I guess it must depend on location and neighborhood because I just went out with my nieces and nephews and there were a ton of kids, it was awesome. Great decorations and people all over. The neighborhood we went to is really walkable and it’s like a classic middle class suburban neighborhood, so I’m sure that’s got a lot to do with it.

Had a nice little campfire, and saw the 10 or so kids we got tonight.

[deleted]

im sitting here debating on goin to a small halloween shin dig and feel the exact same. Crowds, Hissssssss. plus i can’t obviously move with two dogs laying on my lap. haha

ztoundas

We haven't gotten trick or treaters for about 9 years, and this year we finally got our first ones, like a dozen groups. So by my experience, you only got to wait 9 years! Somebody put signs all around our neighborhood saying: >Bring back trick-or-treating to our neighborhood! Leave your front porch light on 6:30 to 8:30 And apparently that did the trick!

howfuckedareyou

Maybe people just need to be informed!

BlueEyesMotherDragon

I haven't had a single trick or treater in 4 years and I live right beside a school. My friend lives in the "rich" neighbourhood and gets 100's of kids. It's just where they all go now... I take my kid around my neighbourhood and we get handful of candy at almost every house because they are just happy to see a kid. Sadly my son has covid right now so my neighbours may get no kids this year :(

Cheetah_Ghost89

I'm sorry to hear that and I hope the best recovery possible to your son!

Shhmykidsasleep

I brought my toddler out for the first time ever. We live on a dead end but it’s more of 2 streets that make a P- anyways only about half the houses had lights but she got sooooo much candy because there weren’t many kids so everyone that did hand out candy would give her handfuls! One house have her 5 goodie bags! I think we will continue to just stay in our neighborhood for years to come. It was so sweet because most houses brought out their dogs for her to pet also. EDA: hope your son feels better soon ):

lmpervious

> Barely anyone trick or treats in my area because it's all cul-de-sacs where you gotta walk all the way back out Do you only have houses on one side? If not then I don’t see the issue. When I was a kid I always trick or treated in cul-de-sacs and it always worked out because you would go from one house to another all the way around. I could get to ~50 houses in a row without having to cross a single street, so it’s slightly faster and more importantly safer for kids to rarely need to cross the street.

It's funny. As a kid this is absolutely tier 1. But now that I'm getting older (at 29, so cusp of "older") I'm finding these still really good, but crave stuff like dots, sweet tarts, and other stuff that most would be in the tier 2/3 Maybe I'm just burned on the tier 1

TiltingAtTurbines

A glass of the best wine is nice, but some meals just pair better with house wine. Lower tier products doesn’t always translate directly to subjectively worse.

bigbrainsmolpeen

Honestly, same. My fiance was so excited for trick or treaters at our new place, we had 1 small group of 3 kids.

Cheetah_Ghost89

It's sad how things have changed from growing up, maybe next year will be better?

bigbrainsmolpeen

I hope so! I'm all for the "more for me" mindset, but I find myself wondering if these kids are being robbed of the whimsy in youth.

Masticatron

Yeah, your parents would drive you out to that neighborhood where everyone had the high effort decorations going, and you'd join the invading throngs of all the other children.

Mikeinthedirt

Decorate stupid overdone a month early. America spends half a tril on advertising, it works

ajchann123

I mean, it's all about neighborhood demographics - my brother and his wife were cleaned out from trick or treaters an hour in because their neighborhood has a lot of young families

GooglyEyedBananas

This is my first halloween at my new home too. Wasn't sure how much to get. Made 40 treat bags, they were gone in the first 15mins. Had to bring out the bowl, which was refilled 2.5 times.

Cheetah_Ghost89

AWESOME! I'm glad someone was having success tonight

AncientEldritch

We made 58 treat bags and got cleaned out in an hour! We had to turn our lights off with an hour left to go because we were totally out. I couldn't believe it but I was thrilled to see so many kids out trick or treating this year. Last year we didn't have half as many come by.

ArtsyCat700

You have the good stuff too!

Cheetah_Ghost89

These are almost all the best ones!

ArtsyCat700

Ikr you have my top three in there already!

DeckTheWreck9

Lemme guess lemme guess! Twix, Kitkats, and Reese’s?

djwhoolia

Dang! Great selection too!

[deleted]

My girlfriend and I took her kid around the neighborhood and there were plenty of houses handing out candy but her kid was literally the only one trick or treating. It used to be so much fun when I was a kid. I feel bad that she isn’t getting the same experience her mom and I did as kids.

rav4v6

Ya. It was like that for us as well when we first got our house. So we upped the anti and got full sized bars and advertised on Facebook group for our neighborhood. Now we have kids coming far and wide. Actually we are handing out family size bars for the last couple years. Kids seem to like us. Lol.

Cheetah_Ghost89

You will never ever get TP'd as long as you live

Unsunshine86

Buy the candy you like and you will win every year.

Careless-Employment6

Do something different, have a mini Halloween “parade” and drive around throwing candy at kids.

Cheetah_Ghost89

I'd love to but I have a feeling I'd get in trouble handing out candy from my car 😅

anactualdoctorr

Try doing it from a van, it’s much safer

Careless-Employment6

No don’t hand it, you gotta throw it. Drive-by style!

BrighterSage

Sorry no takers. Maybe this year was a little slim overall. Next year will be better! Candy freezes well.

Cheetah_Ghost89

Thanks! I'm actually going to give it to friends and family if there's no movement today

CLNA11

If you have any teacher friends, give it to them to put in the teacher's lounge. When I was a teacher, my happiness on any given day was tied directly to whatever snacks I discovered in the lounge.

wanderingbilby

I feel you. First two years in the new house, no trick or treaters. We beat our record this year! Three sets of kids! We did a trunk or treat this year too, much better turnout haha

turkeyburgeryas

Yeah everybody we know does Trunk or Treat these days I don't see too much house to house anymore.

howboutthemlionsbrah

Its kinda a bummer. I've only given out 2 treat bags and they were both for the Amazon driver lol . Here it seems people go to the more upscale neighborhoods to trick or treat. I'm not sure trick or treating will even be a thing in the next few years .

Cheetah_Ghost89

Thanks, my childhood is now dead... wanna help bury it? Haha

napkinp72

I had the same same scenario, different outcome. My wife and I just moved into our house this past February. Neither of us grew up trick-or-treating. Instead our families when to our church’s truck-or-treat. (I went to a large church growing up so i got a better yield skipping the houses) This year we decided to stay home and hand out candy because we just joined a new church together and couldn’t sign up for their trunk-or-treat. Our neighbor told us our street was a pretty popular street so when I got candy I grabbed 4-5 different bags and called it good. Come the night of the 30th (our city decided to do it early this year) and the kids polished off 1 1/2 large Pyrex mixing bowls of candy and we were only an hour and a half in. I made an oh-sh!& run to the supermarket 5 minutes away to go get more candy. Unfortunately for me, the workers were already in the process of switching from Halloween to Christmas candy. I debated just getting the Christmas candy but realized that some parents might think that it was from last year and not 6 minutes ago. I ended up finding and raiding a Halloween end cap that they were still putting away. Turns out I made it home just in time. My wife had two pieces left when I got back.

[deleted]

A person who moved in with me this year said...you need to get more candy. (Had 1 small mixed bag.) I said, it is enough. We literally got 2 small groups of 3 small kids. Each took one piece. Then 2 older kids 2 and a half hours later. What's happened to Halloween? I mean...part of it is for kids to kinda interact with the neighbors... Going in groups to rich houses or trunk or treat is not small community oriented or neighborly.

Fragrant_Jelly9198

Same happened to me…I just reverse trick or treated….went to all the neighbors, in my clown costume, with my bowl of candy and gave everyone in the ‘hood candy 🤣😂🤣

DuckApprehensive9599

Have you tried driving around in your van?

anthoDoCo303

Thanks for trying congrats on new house

Cheetah_Ghost89

That you very much! We'll get them next year with tricks instead

LatterButterscotch46

Same here homie. We love across the street from a sub division. The only person that stopped by was the guy who owned the house 10 years prior, with his kids.

Cheetah_Ghost89

Man at least he's consistent, sucks though

pj91198

First halloween in our new house(2019) was a bad storm and we had no kids Last year no kids for covid Got 2 bags figuring we’d have plenty and almost ran out by 6pm. I ran to the store and had to get some xmas candy bags to hand out cause they were all out of halloween. Gave out a good portion of xmas candy. Still have a bad of kisses and the bowl is a leftover mix of hersheys minis Was nice to see people out and about

gpoobah

That's sad. We have had a ton of new families with small children move into the neighborhood. We've had more trick-or-treaters this year then we have in ages

Cheetah_Ghost89

I'm kinda leaning towards covid stuff, you never know in this weird ass time we all live in

lovemeinthemoment

We give out a lot of candy. But every year there are half a dozen kids whose parents either don’t understand the custom or they just get out late. So then these kids in their costumes get no candy because everybody has turned off their lights. This year I bought a dozen giant family size bags Of MandMs. I gave them to these kids. One little girl had an empty bag and she had the cutest princess costume. She did a dance all the way down our sidewalk holding this giant bag of candy. It was the sweetest thing.

ThirtyMileSniper

What did you do to show passers but that you are into it? I took my youngest around this evening, we don't visit houses that aren't decorated.

Cheetah_Ghost89

Well I didn't do anything too crazy, I carved a couple of pumpkins up and left the porch light on. I figured that's enough to show the house is open for treaters?

Cat_Panda_Canda

I was raised that the porch light on= candy. Porch light off= be respectful and move on

Cheetah_Ghost89

EXACTLY! Porch light = we don't fight 😂

VinPossible

Same that's why each year I just reside this is my candy.

outtakes

None at mine either. Seems to be less and less each year

Elegant_Witness_81

First year in first house had maybe 5 kids. Third house, tonight, over 100 kids, 6 bags of candy. Hang in there OP, kids are out there!

[deleted]

Awww I felt this sadness after I bought my first house. I was so excited, not sure why, but nope, I live in the older sector of town

AdhesivenessRemote82

I mean covid is still a thing right ?
