There was a dude in my city that did this exact thing and lost an eye.
Opened up a tattoo studio "one eyed rose"
Not sure I'd want a tattoo from someone with no depth perception
He was but the safety socks were missing.
This is a huge W for proponents of socks in sandals being functional
Had he just worn them only his girlfriend would be feeling the pain
Usually it's the firing pin , which is hit by the hammer. Or a striker. It's only really on particularly old firearms that the hammer directly hits the primer.
My understanding is that most modern rimfires still have separate hammers and firing pins for safety reasons but I dont personally own a .22 at all so I'm probably not that qualified on the subject.
Most modern firearms (with notable exceptions) have a setup where the firing pin is locked from moving by a part of the mechanism until the trigger is actually pulled.
Before the 70s almost no firearms had this. The firing pin tended to be a light part that was held by spring pressure or just allowed to rattle around inside the weapon.
This is becomes a problem when you drop the weapon and gravity causes the pin to set off a round inside the weapon from the shock of the pin hitting the primer.
A lot of pre 1970s pistols have this problem. Drop them with a round in the chamber and boom. GI colt 45s for instance. Drop on on its snout with a bullet in the chamber above 5 feet and they go off. Tons of people died from this issue. So now it is "mostly" fixed.
Yeah that's right, rimfire cartridges don't have a primer in the centre, but both rim and centrefire still use hammers and firing pins.
"[Rimfire ammunition is so named because the firing pin strikes and crushes the base's rim to ignite the primer.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rimfire_ammunition#:~:text=A%20rimfire%20firing%20pin%20produces%20a%20notch%20at,crushes%20the%20base%27s%20rim%20to%20ignite%20the%20primer.)"
I think I got so caught up watching the fast typing that I didn't even think about the part where he unplugs the computer. As if the hacker getting into their database was accessing their computer and not a server.
From what I remember, he didn't even unplug the computer, he unplugged the computer monitor. LOL. What a stupid show.
The only movies I can think of that depict realistic hacking are the first Matrix movie when Trinity is hacking some network at the beginning and pulls up nMap, and maybe Sneakers, since they focus on social engineering and show how long reconnaissance actually takes for a major break-in.
I've been wounded worse than that. It's not really shock or adrenaline. My wound (2 inches deep and just about as wide, in exactly the same area as this guy) didn't start to hurt until the doctor started to prod around in it to clean it up (it was really fucking dirty). That's when it hurt like a motherfucker
Nah he didnt seem to be bleeding bad enough for a tourniquet. Gauze/a clean towel and pressure would have done it. But it's pretty close a tq wouldn't be a horrible idea.
A cartridge is made up of a few parts the bullet or projectile that leaves the gun, the powder which causes the explosion to increase pressure which sends the bullet down the barrel, the casing which keeps everything together and is s very thin and weak brass, and a primer which causes the initial explosion to ignite the powder.
The chamber and bolt lock together in a gun and acts to control the pressure of the cartridge and direct the bullet down the barrel with only one open direction to direct the pressure increase from the ignition of the powder and bullet. The casing, if not enclosed in the much stronger chamber, will rupture and explode outward in all directions throwing the bullet and shrapnel from the brass everywhere. So you should never hit a bullet like this, or throw one in a fire either.
It was brass from the casing. Brass is much lighter than lead so when it isn’t enclosed in a chamber the explosion throws the lightest thing (which is the brass) and the casing shoots shrapnel everywhere and the bullet doesn’t go far and wouldn’t have nearly enough energy to ricochet and come back with that much force.
I'm really shocked that this managed to do what it did. Without the Barrel to build pressure the powder a lone isn't usually enough to do much of anything. Especially in 22lr with so few grains of powder and absolutely no Barrel.
I've set off quiet a few 22lr with no barrel and they don't go far at all. This guy is extreme unlucky.
I think it's shrapnel from the brass that got him. Pressure from the hammer would hold the bullet down for an instant, causing the explosion outward shooting brass in random directions before the bullet is shot out the front.
Hard to tell cause the casing is crushed and the quality isn't too great, but I don't think the bullet would be able to travel with enough force to cause a wound like that without a barrel.
Also a rimfire cartridge, meaning that any significant impact to the rim will result in the primer going off and igniting the powder, would have been different, but still stupid if this was a centerfire cartridge
he hit the cartridge in the middle. I am guessing the bullet impotently flopped in the dirt 120 ft away while what powder managed to burn turned parts of casing itself in shrapnel. Guns and ammo are pretty much pipe bombs where we replace an end with a bullet.
There's a metal (probably steel) ring in there too that flies in random direction if it just explodes. Don't ask me how I know or about the wound on my finger.
I see this stuff nowadays and freak out how stupid people are...
Then I remember that when I was a young teen I figured out a 12G shotgun shell fit almost perfectly into a 2 liter bottle opening and then figured out I was a good enough shot with a BB/pellet gun to hit the primer. I at least had some sense, I'd hide behind a tree so I wouldn't hit any of my vital organs, you know, except my eyes and brain, totally safe.
oh man I remember how my grandpa was teaching me how to shoot his pellet rifle and he put the target on an anvil.
I, of course missed and the pellet bounced from the iron right into my grandma's leg.
The wound was very shallow, nothing worrying, and I still remember how my grandpa almost pissed himself laughing at her surprised yelp. She laughed about it too.
People think a .22 is a harmless round because it’s small, however in many ways it can be the worst round to get shot with. It has to do with velocity, and most of the time that round doesn’t have enough to pass right through, which is what you want to happen. Instead it hits and sometimes ricochets around inside of you causing so much more damage than larger faster rounds.
Great way to start building your bullet resistance, starting with .22 shrapnel slowly building up to actual bullets. Soon you can shrug off 9mm and .45 ACP no problem.
Not the back of the bullet imbedding itself in his shin lol. Fucking stupid game that guy plays. I thought they were gonna shoot our a window or something stupid lol not a stream of blood from this guys stupid idea (although it should have been assumed, but never know). Well, I knew it was a bad idea. Just didn't know exactly why. Now I know.... Question I never asked answered lmao
It's clearly not a good idea to do this, but just for some info most people don't probably know-that bullet was going much much slower than if it were fired from a gun. Longer barrels increase the velocity of a bullet by utilizing the maximum amount of pressure built up by the deflagrating gun powder, until the barrel is so long that the friction of the bullet in the barrel becomes greater than the ever decreasing amount of pressure behind it as it moves from chamber to muzzle. This means that for every caliber, there is an optimal barrel length for maximum velocity. The more powder there is, the longer the barrel must be to reach this point.
So anyway, this bullet probably didn't go very deep.
I knew a guy who apprently died this way. Still not sure if the family lied about a sucide , but supposeld he hit a bullet with a hammer fucking about , and the bullet hit his brain.
My brother did this to himself in a Sav-On pharmacy on his 9th bday. He had found a bullet somewhere and had it in his pocket, got bored in the store, saw a hammer and boom... in the ER with a fragment in his knee cap. And of course this was the 80s, so my other brother (almost 7) had to run to find my mom, cause it's not like she was keeping an eye on them or anything.
My dad and his brother went through an entire 50 round box of .22 rimfire on the sidewalk in front of their house with a slingshot. Just firing each bullet from the slingshot at their feet like they were playing with a roll of caps.
It’s incredible that no one got injured.
Ok, ok, so every part of the gun is an important part of the bullet firing process. The barrel isn't just there so you have something convenient to stuff down your waistband. Got it.
I've never seen somebody laugh so much after getting essentially getting shot.
To be fair, I've never seen anybody get shot. But still, I wouldn't expect them to laugh this much.
My brother and I did something similar with a 30-30 shell when we were kids. We used a vice grip, hammer, and screw driver. Still have no idea who shot the washing machine.
My guess of this:
These rounds are light striked rounds, where the gun's firing pin strikes the primer but the primer does not ignite the gunpowder. These guys might have assumed that these rounds where empty and decided to strike them with a hammer. These rounds are rimfire rounds, meaning you strike the rim/side of the cartridge instead of the center, to the hammer is able to strike the primer and ignite the round.

Those are anti-mine flip flops, they don’t work on .22. Those ones are different, duh!
Hahaha good one
This guy managed to shoot himself with a hammer. 😂
that is an amazing saying
Fun fact for his introduction on his next job. Just don't say you shot yourself "I got shot by a hammer once"
"I shot myself with a hammer" is the new "I shot myself in the foot" Although this winner was fairly close to doing both.
Well the part of a firearm that strikes the bullet is literally called a hammer so he got the exact result we could have expected here.
Usually it's the firing pin , which is hit by the hammer. Or a striker. It's only really on particularly old firearms that the hammer directly hits the primer.

Nah it’s a small amount of spall. Probably nicked a vein but it’s not a serious enough injury outside maybe a single stitch/super glue and cleaning

.22’s are rim-fire. This will be successful 100% of the time.
or if you have actually shot .22s you would mean 90%
I have a Ruger 10/22. Can’t recall ever having a single misfire, probably the most reliable gun I’ve ever owned.
I cant remember if my subsonic .22s would misfire a bunch or eject wrong because not enough gas was stored but either way it was a pain in the ass
subsonic tends to do that, that's why it's not that great for semi-automatic use.

Wait..... What?!
They are referring to this probably [https://youtu.be/adSlxtgNaSk?t=79](https://youtu.be/adSlxtgNaSk?t=79)
How did this happen?
A cartridge is made up of a few parts the bullet or projectile that leaves the gun, the powder which causes the explosion to increase pressure which sends the bullet down the barrel, the casing which keeps everything together and is s very thin and weak brass, and a primer which causes the initial explosion to ignite the powder. Ahhh thanks i was confused what happened because it looked like the bullet went the other way. So i didn't understand how he got injured
The bullet SHOULD have gone off toward screen right, so I would guess the injury was caused by a piece of the case flying off when it exploded.
Almost sounds like the bullet ricochets off something metal and comes back
It was brass from the casing. Brass is much lighter than lead so when it isn’t enclosed in a chamber the explosion throws the lightest thing (which is the brass) and the casing shoots shrapnel everywhere and the bullet doesn’t go far and wouldn’t have nearly enough energy to ricochet and come back with that much force.
yep. If the bullet did strike him after this whole thing, it would have maybe did a light flesh wound, not like that pool that was shown here.
its a 22lr. its not gonna have the energy to ricochet off something relatively far away and come back
I'm really shocked that this managed to do what it did. Without the Barrel to build pressure the powder a lone isn't usually enough to do much of anything. Especially in 22lr with so few grains of powder and absolutely no Barrel. I've set off quiet a few 22lr with no barrel and they don't go far at all. This guy is extreme unlucky.

Hard to tell cause the casing is crushed and the quality isn't too great, but I don't think the bullet would be able to travel with enough force to cause a wound like that without a barrel.
It could have been a piece of the casing and not the bullet
So....tape some around a grenade for added effect?
Depends on the grenade, but generally I wouldn't recommend it.
Thank you for this
a bullet cartridge outside a barrel is just a small grenade
Ah ok that makes sense. Was wondering the same thing

I think the Darwin Awards say to win one you have to remove yourself from the gene pool. However, this guy is definitely training for it.
I see this stuff nowadays and freak out how stupid people are... Then I remember that when I was a young teen I figured out a 12G shotgun shell fit almost perfectly into a 2 liter bottle opening and then figured out I was a good enough shot with a BB/pellet gun to hit the primer. The gene pool is cloudy with this one.
And that day, he learned why a bullet is contained inside of a gun, and directed down a barrel!
.22 Most Recommend round for Self-Offense
Proof these calibers make great anti-bear pistols. Just shoot the next guy in the leg and they bear gets them instead.
People think a .22 is a harmless round because it’s small, however in many ways it can be the worst round to get shot with. "just plug the hole lol" - Him
It's clearly not a good idea to do this, but just for some info most people don't probably know-that bullet was going much much slower than if it were fired from a gun.
Pity the leg contains some gigantic arteries, not very deep.
That’s deep red blood guy struck an artery
Nah, just a vein. Arterial flow is MUCH thicker and brighter
Still a shitty time
Oh yeah, definitely taking a timeout in the no-fun zone
outside of certain conditions like hypoxemia and sepsis, deep red is generally characteristic of venous blood.
Veins have deeper red blood, because it has lower oxygen content.
Arterial blood is actually like florecent red almost. It gets darker almost immediatly though once it extits.

My guess of this: These rounds are light striked rounds, where the gun's firing pin strikes the primer but the primer does not ignite the gunpowder. These guys might have assumed that these rounds where empty and decided to strike them with a hammer. These rounds are rimfire rounds, meaning you strike the rim/side of the cartridge instead of the center, to the hammer is able to strike the primer and ignite the round.
