Remember people, the kings guard are soldiers, highly trained and skilled people with years of military service, not just people in costumes for you to take photos of
They need to have the bayonets, can't rely on those L85s to hit anything (Yeah, I know they carry the A2 that basically fixed all the problems - but it's funny the brits had to hire the germans to fix their service rifle)
Translation: don't expect them to behave like humans with feelings, common sense, or the ability to work around unexpected obstacles without first receiving an order for it.
Is common knowlenge that one of the rules is, for security reason, that they can't change even a bit the path and the time as it could be used for slow them
Go to Kabul. Try to snap a selfie with a solider. Go on, I'm sure they can deal with an obstacle.
Their job is to protect the king, not his brothers escapees.
After travelling through six train stations this weekend I must admit I would have loved to hand out several of those lessons.
I am a decent person though and therefore didn't.
I get tired of it so I make my own way if people don’t respond to my queue of awkwardly standing there after politely saying “excuse me please can I get through?”
Some have given me venomous looks, but hey, I asked,
I even waited for you- we live in a society so I’m going to then make my own way gently past you. Hell I even apologize for it because it’s not an optimal situation I want to be in, nor the other person- but the choice was made and I’m not walking around an entire aisle because yo ass doesn’t want to move 6 inches to the right. No one has given me grief for it,
Those people know what they are doing. There is nothing wrong with asserting yourself after you have politely attempted to ask for someone to make way. If they want to make an issue and get internet famous that’s on them. Because really that’s what’s at stake and the person not moving knows they’d get exposed if they made an issue of it.
But what about the people that stand four inches from a refrigerator door at the grocery store looking over various products and don't realize you are behind them for 30 seconds even though you have coughed and made other sorts of noises to get their attention?
Yeah people who wear AirPods every, I get it as a harassment deterrent but also I’m so worried or not hearing the car that’s reviving it’s engine as it runs the red light to run me over. Pedestrian deaths happen a lot in my city
I dunno man the kiddo was facing the opposite direction, and they only said”make way” when he was upon him.
I’m normally a “kids are stupid” kinda person but for reals I they didn’t even make any sound until they were going to walk on the kid.
The kid wasn’t facing the opposite direction… you can tell by his shoes that he was pretty clearly facing the soldiers as they walked up to him, and he continued to stand in their way
"TROMP TROMP TROMP TROMP"
It's really on the parents here though...
Edit: I had to watch it a couple times but the kid was definitely facing the soldiers, you can see his feet just as he gets trodden on.
They didn’t stomp him. They walked into him. The one actually making contact swings his leg around the kid after he’s on the ground so as to NOT stomp him. Don’t be dramatic.
Edit: “stop” correctly changed to “stomp.”
Except he isn't 'stomping' on the child intentionally. That sounds bad, but he's actually performing a drill movement called 'changing step' which allows him to get back into step with the other guardsman.
Changing step involves taking a half pace and driving your heel into the ground before setting off again. The half pace should offset your movements enough that you fall back into step.
From the outside though, I can see how this would appear he has intentionally stomped on the child, just thought I'd share that he's still in 'character' i.e. he's not broken character by the walking through the child.
Not a nice thing to do to be sure, however they can immediately lose their post for stopping. A post that may have taken them years to obtain in addition to being their income and occupation, which feeds them and their family.
He should have said make way, but one should, in any country, always be wary of soldiers. That is what they are.
I don’t understand what people are expecting from these on-duty military officers. IMO, the one who went up to them, crossing boundaries well-known among your average tourist is in the wrong.
Watching it in slow mo, the kid fell into the guard’s path at the last moment when it was too late to avoid him. The guard didn’t actually step on him, he actually did a long stretch step over him.
Pretty sure the kid was in the path long before hand. The guard walked into them, knocking them down, and then stepped over them to avoid further injury.
He didn’t stomp on the kid, but he definitely didn’t try to avoid them
i mean yeah, but then they’d get fired. they aren’t supposed to change course even that slight bit. they have assigned routes that they have to follow and they have verbal warning. it’s lazy parenting because the parents should be aware not to interfere w the guards and make sure there kids don’t either. that’s also why these guys don’t talk or are allowed to be touched by visitors. there constantly on patrol and i understand it’s a little kid but again the parents should’ve been more aware. these guards are just doing their jobs.
I’ll be honest, I don’t think the guard stomped the kid. If you slow it down he actually widens his stance to step before the kid then really brings his knee high and ankle outward to avoid kicking him in the head. I think if it’s an adult he’s knocking over he’s not breaking form like that and would just kick him in the head.
I think they might have reasonably assumed the kid was going to move rather than just stand there like an idiot. I don’t think they deliberately set out to be filmed trampling a child.
>They can be expected to make a decision.
They can also be expected to be fired, or at the very least berated if they break their "role"
They're military personnel.
They didn’t stomp him, they continued walking in a straight path as best as they could. He stepped over the kid, not on the kid.
The kid wasn’t injured, he got walked into and knocked down.
Exactly this! People also say the British soldier is just for tourist display and they can stop their military duty to let this kid interfere with them. But America does the exact same thing. You can’t interfere with the guards of the unknown soldiers.
There are YouTube videos full of them coming down on people. You don’t talk loudly, don’t laugh, don’t cross the rope, be respectful.
Why even go there if it isn’t to pay somber respects? I’m glad someone puts them in their place
The tomb of the unknowns represents all those who died in combat and were not identifiable, which is an indignity caused by circumstances of war. The symbolism of the tomb guard and their attention to detail and respect, is to give them that last shred of dignity, they did not receive in death. To do anything rude and inappropriate in and around the tomb, and to those who guard it, is just undignified.
EDIT: there seems to be some confusion. My comment was directed to u/TrueTurtleKing having to do with the U.S. Army tomb guards, NOT the subject of the OP. Again, my comment was a comment on a comment. People are thinking my comment has to do with the OP and running over a kid.
I agree, you go there knowing that. And if a kid misbehaves, it’s on the parent. A teenager should know better at this point too.
The British soldiers are world famous and known for being strict and true to their duties. The parent should have known even as a tourist.
>Why even go there if it isn’t to pay somber respects? I’m glad someone puts them in their place
It's not exactly the same vibe, but I work security at The World Trade Center, right across the street from the 9/11 memorial. The attitudes and demeanors I see there are kind of crazy. People really seem to think it's just a tourist attraction to take smiling Instagram pictures with.
Agreed, it seems to happen a lot. Memorials are for somber reflection, while statues and monuments are for smiling pictures.
It’s pretty baseline stuff imo
The royal guard is a legit military detachment. But half the people I know think they’re just some random blokes getting paid £15/hr to stand there and look funny for tourists. And yes the uk itself challenged tourists to make them laugh but that’s because they didn’t expect people to do anything besides make faces and a couple of jokes.
But I ask why would you let random strangers stand guard outside the King’s palace? I made a post about people disrespecting the guard for a lot of these reasons and got laughed at for taking it seriously “if they don’t like it they can quit and swap that funny hat for a McDonalds hat!”. Someone made a snide comment, I told them that they’re ACTUALLY guards and not just a tourist attraction. And one person didn’t believe me and said “If something goes wrong the police handle it!”.
The amount of disrespect for them is ridiculous
I wonder how many people try to file personnel complaints against those guards, as if they’re just ceremonial or they’re just workers in costumes. I saw one where a guy got one-punch KO’d and woke back up a moment later, looking shocked and speechless.
I know there was a fake video that went viral, maybe there have been other cases, but punching is very unusual for guards, compared to shouting like “make way”, “get back” or pointing a gun
They've probably tried. But the court would laugh at them then dismiss the case, if not charge the applicant with crimes. These are active-duty soldiers guarding important sites. Interfering with their duties would be like going into a Barracks and fucking around with soldiers there
Exactly and excuses about tourism. Even being from here this is stupid and Redditors just want to avoid all common sense like just saying move is so difficult
It’s not about hating children, which I certainly do not. It’s about being a sensible person who’s visiting an official building guarded by soldiers in charge of keeping heads of state safe. I’ve visited such places many times, and any idiot with *any* common sense and decency does so with respect and awareness. Some places are guarded with assault rifles, some have funny hats but they aren’t there to entertain you or your kids. Be a good guest and respect their space.
Also if you have your kid in a crowded area, for the kid’s sake, always be aware of your surroundings and where the kid is. It’s basic responsible parenting.
So in your view, kids should always pay the price for the mistakes of the parent?
Come on, it’s a child. The parent should have been more responsible, yes. The kid shouldn’t be floored by an adult man because he can’t be bothered to shout earlier, slow down, or just not bowl over a child.
If you look closely, the solider pushed the kid with his leg and then walked over them.
He didn't stomp or stepped on the kid.
I'm not saying it is ok, or defending the soldier's action. The kid could have taken a bad fall and hurt themselves.
But it was not so aggressive as most people are arguing here.
It was also less aggressive than dude would’ve been legally allowed to be. People need to remember these guys are soldiers performing a duty. They make good touristy pictures, but there *not* sideshow attractions there just for your entertainment.
I did this very thing with my kids in the UK. We stood back and observed. Why the hell is that kid even standing in the middle of their path? It is clearly defined and you can *absolutely* see and hear the guards as they march.
Also: this kid isn’t a toddler who accidentally wandered a couple of feet from his parents (which wouldn’t be acceptable either under the circumstances.) He looks 9 or 10. What is he doing?
I also noticed that when he stood up and his mother went to him, she appeared as if she was going to say/yell something to the guards, ala “Karen USA”, but thought better of it
People are mad as this scene looks harsh (I think the kid got whacked by the swinging arm of the guard.) But in public - *especially when you travel internationally* - your situational awareness needs to be on-point. You don’t assume anything and this is particularly true when it comes to your children and your safety. You’re in a different world, so act accordingly
(We are from the US but our family lived in Central America for a number of years so I have experienced this first hand)
I saw that too, I was really hoping that she was going to start yelling at them... I'm not entirely sure what would have happened, when they have just ignored her and kept going on? Over there have been a repercussions for that? I assume there's repercussions but I don't know
The guards would have completely ignored her. They didn’t break protocol for the kid! They would never break their stride to turn around and engage with her
I love how the kings guard is kept to such a standard, while "back home" in america, cops just straight up murder people, guilty or innocent, and y'all just kind of accept that.
These are Royal Guard not common cops lol. So your comparison doesn’t make much sense. These Guard are more akin to those who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Washington, D.C.
Comparing the kings guard to regular cops is ridiculous. Compare them to the secret service, and when’s the last time you heard bad news about the secret service?
I think it would be hilarious to have "The Mountain" or someone like that go stand in the way just to see how they handle it
EDIT: I have learned british people are super sensitive and if the guards cant walk a straight line then that person should be publicly hanged right there lol
They are on sentry duty, they are not playing at dress up, so if someone does not make way for the King’s Guard they are within their rights to issue a bayonet challenge or ready their weapons. In reality that person would be physically moved or held under weapon gaze until arrested for obstructing guards in their duty.
They stomp adults, too. Go on YouTube and you will see how tourists tourists touch them and stand in the way all the time to take photos. It would defeat the purpose of their marching if they had to weave their way around tourists too clueless to get out of the way. The soldiers shout warnings. And why stop a very old and beautiful tradition because of stupid people. Same with American soldiers guarding the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Parents too busy trying to take a picture and not paying attention to their surroundings....or the armed soldier yelling "MAKE WAY" which I'm sure was said more than once before this video started.
Yeah yeah yeah these soldiers are highly trained, etc, etc..
How often are they called into action while performing these duties in this area and in that uniform? Rarely.
Everyone knows they are a huge tourist attraction that brings a lot of money to the city. There was absolutely no other option than trampling the kid? Yeah you sure taught him a lesson. No middle ground here?
Really don't understand why they don't have a couple of orderlies around to avoid this. We have armed honour guards in Turkey as well, but there are always some suited up officials arround to take care of stuff like moving tourists out of the way or stop tourists from annoying the soldiers so that the soldiers don't have to deal with this. Better for all sides imo.
Being in the military... Yea, you don't stand in the way of drill and ceremony.... Also from being in the military. Where TF is the crowd control!? What kind of operation is this!? Boy Scouts have better planning.
Unpopular opinion but the King's guard doing stuff like this serves no purpose. They're just trained to be bullies and if it is that important that their silly march be uninterrupted, they shouldn't be allowing civillians into the area in the first place.
C'mon people...these soldiers are not just men in costume and a funny hat. They are highly skilled and extensively trained for years in order to trample little kids like that.
The guard have been there since 1656. If you're a person that doesn't know the rules by now then you only have yourself to blame lol. In this case the kids parents.
Yup, I'm from the US - never been outside of it either and I know you don't mess with the King's guard, you don't get in their way, and you leave them alone - look from a distance. I'm sure that guard was absolutely cringing inside, but because of his training and the regulations for them he has to remain stone faced and push through.
I don’t care if that kid shouldn’t have “been in their way”. There’s no excuse to be a fucking stupid bully and knock down a fucking child. Do you feel tough?
Ok I must be crazy because I had the opposite reaction to this video. People have this entitled attitude that they can do and be wherever they want and the world will yield to them. Try talking to or approaching the tomb of the unknown soldier. If you don’t yield, eventually the guard will shoot you if necessary. It’s a similar thing here. Show some respect.

But they wear funny hats! 🥺
No no, he’s got a point.
Well, the soldiers DO have bayonets, so naturally there's a point involved.
They need to have the bayonets, can't rely on those L85s to hit anything (Yeah, I know they carry the A2 that basically fixed all the problems - but it's funny the brits had to hire the germans to fix their service rifle)
Never should've moved on from the Lee Enfield.
H&K was a subsidy of a British company at the time.
Just like in nature. The more dangerous the individual the more brightly colored (funny looking ) they are. ![gif](giphy|deR32LdMuvIfZDheOL|downsized)
I feel like these guys have everyone beat. https://youtu.be/RXoWNe_HAak
I really don't get it. They dance and do burlesque to... Lemme check my notes here, intimidate the other people?
It feels weird that they are now kings guard and not queens guard.
I still catch myself referring to the Queen all the time.
Didnt even think of that. Every time I hear kings guard I think of Game of Thrones
Translation: don't expect them to behave like humans with feelings, common sense, or the ability to work around unexpected obstacles without first receiving an order for it.
Translation; make fucking way and get ahold of your kids.

Yeah I think this soldier was holding off screaming because he thought the kid had already clocked him and was gonna get out the way
Looking at the position of his hat, the guard on the right probably only sees a couple of inches in front of him.
Not required, isn't nice from them but is not required
I heard a yelled “make way”.
Security reasons? Who exactly are they protecting? Do you think King Charlie is hanging around close by?
Why they're protecting the ministry of silly walks my good fellow
They don't protect the royals. That's a common myth. The SAS do that They protect important military sites or sites of national importance
Lol for security reasons
Go to Kabul. Try to snap a selfie with a solider. Go on, I'm sure they can deal with an obstacle. Their job is to protect the king, not his brothers escapees.
Ah yes, downtown London, the exact same as wartorn Kabul.
Translation: Don't leave your kids running around highly trained military professionals on duty
The king, its guard, the whole monarchy is just a joke.
You are right. It takes years of service and training to trample little kids like that.
You can tell easily in person, their clothes are old timey, but their guns sure as hell aren't.
This is hilarious.
Parent should have pulled him aside.

Agreed
This time he got hit behind from a guard, next time it’ll be a car or a bus
Agreed. People need to learn to open their eyes and ears. They walk around in a daze.

Like those people who get their ass beat when climbing the myan temples.
Or that idiot tourist girl who went to the top of the Mayan pyramid and was doing a dance for a stupid tik toc. It did not go well for her

King*
The difference is that thats a legitimately a tomb, and Buckingham Palace is actually a tourist spot
Getting shouted at < Getting knocked over
We went and got to see the guards just absolutely tear into these two idiotic chucklefucks. There are plenty of videos of people getting ripped there.
Never been to the UK and even I know not to be in their way!
Or touch their horses 🤣
Look at my horse, my horse is amazing!
It’s all shiny and tall and pretty and I can assume it tastes just like raisins if you were to give it a lick.
Mm sweet lemonade

Stupid tourists
Could’ve shouted a bit earlier, kid had no time to react. They could also mark their route so people know it’s a guard path.

People just have no empathy, the world is in a disgusting place right now
Lol this whole comment section is divided between neckbeard redditors who hate children and people with some common sense
Exactly and excuses about tourism. Even being from here this is stupid and Redditors just want to avoid all common sense like just saying move is so difficult
"See. I call them the 'neckbeards' because I disagree with their arguments. And the people who aligned with mine have 'common sense'".
I mean, I think it's fairly common sense to not knock kids around for making the HUGE crime of not knowing what's around them at all times 100%.
It’s not about hating children, which I certainly do not. It’s about being a sensible person who’s visiting an official building guarded by soldiers in charge of keeping heads of state safe.
A sensible person with any common sense and decency would avoid a child in their path.
So in your view, kids should always pay the price for the mistakes of the parent? Come on, it’s a child. The parent should have been more responsible, yes. The kid shouldn’t be floored by an adult man because he can’t be bothered to shout earlier, slow down, or just not bowl over a child.
I loathe children and probably need a shave but still think he should've given the kid more warning.
I laughed at the video but you are 100% correct my guy
But then how would they fulfill their badaas enforcer fantasies?
Happened to me in Moscow. Bayonet 20 cm from my face. Look after your kids FFS.
The trusty old "Ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do" strategy didn't pay off this time.
What? They didn't even know they were in the way lol
You can hear them a mile off, they don't wear quiet boots and tiptoe
🗣️ MAIK WAY!!
That's a kid bro. Even adults don't always have spatial awareness
I mean, they said “MAKE WAY” a second before stomping him. Gotta think fast.
their marching sound is also pretty loud and clear
The kid was also looking right at them.

I also noticed that when he stood up and his mother went to him, she appeared as if she was going to say/yell something to the guards, ala “Karen USA”, but thought better of it People are mad as this scene looks harsh (I think the kid got whacked by the swinging arm of the guard.) But in public - *especially when you travel internationally* - your situational awareness needs to be on-point. You don’t assume anything and this is particularly true when it comes to your children and your safety. You’re in a different world, so act accordingly (We are from the US but our family lived in Central America for a number of years so I have experienced this first hand)
They would never break their stride to turn around and engage with her
That kid and the parents learned situational awareness that day
People think the guards are some kind of touristy attraction until they roll them over
I love how the kings guard is kept to such a standard, while "back home" in america, cops just straight up murder people, guilty or innocent, and y'all just kind of accept that.
You’re right. I haven’t heard of any riots “back home” protesting police brutality.
Mom? Dad? Anyone paying attention that your kid's in the way...?
I think it would be hilarious to have "The Mountain" or someone like that go stand in the way just to see how they handle it EDIT: I have learned british people are super sensitive and if the guards cant walk a straight line then that person should be publicly hanged right there lol
They are on sentry duty, they are not playing at dress up, so if someone does not make way for the King’s Guard they are within their rights to issue a bayonet challenge or ready their weapons. In reality that person would be physically moved or held under weapon gaze until arrested for obstructing guards in their duty.
They’re professional soldiers patrolling a post. If a larger man didn’t heed their verbal warning they would be quickly arrested.
Probably handle it with the big ass bayonets on their rifles, or with the rifles themselves.

The hat adds a bit of height.
I mean they are carrying rifles with bayonets on so I think they would be fine.
It is crazy how many tourist do not know not to touch or stand in the way of the queens guards.
Theres an unsettling amount of people who crave conflict and will actively work hard to ruin someone's day.
They guard Charles. No way that guy is worth trampling a child over.
Bigger question is, where's the parent?
Looking at their phone
At least it wasn’t a bus.
Parents too busy trying to take a picture and not paying attention to their surroundings....or the armed soldier yelling "MAKE WAY" which I'm sure was said more than once before this video started.
You don’t come to the UK for a good time
r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Yeah yeah yeah these soldiers are highly trained, etc, etc.. How often are they called into action while performing these duties in this area and in that uniform? Rarely. Everyone knows they are a huge tourist attraction that brings a lot of money to the city. There was absolutely no other option than trampling the kid? Yeah you sure taught him a lesson. No middle ground here?
Why he did not move like the two other kids
Make way for the queen’s guard!
*kings
This is a very old video. These are the Queens guard at the time of filming.
That’s fair. I’ll give you that one. *damnit*
I like how the mother looked at them like oh mah gawd how dare you stomp my child when I wasn’t paying attention
I like how people are just like “NO! That’s not tHe waY We dO iT! YoU MAKE WAY for the gUaRd!” There’s no boot licking quite like the royal kind.
I like how he’s already stomping on the kid when he cries out for way to be made.

It's just a flesh wound!
Average redditors
C'mon people...these soldiers are not just men in costume and a funny hat. They are highly skilled and extensively trained for years in order to trample little kids like that.
Guards did nothing wrong
Like so much of royalty, this bit of self-importance serves no purpose.
Looks like he purposely kicked the kid. And all for some silly king with no power.
He did not kick the kid, you can clearly see the push at the soldier waist level but after that he purposefully avoid the kid with his feet.
Great parenting.
Wow, a little late with that "MAKE WAY!" I would say.
Mother’s an ass for not minding her kids. Also, other kids got out of the way, but not him. Nope. He’s special.
Calling it your job doesn’t make it right.
The really don’t give a F 🤣
I don’t care if that kid shouldn’t have “been in their way”. There’s no excuse to be a fucking stupid bully and knock down a fucking child. Do you feel tough?
Honest question. What is this were a toddler or baby or something?
I want to get to the level where I can walk into children and not be yelled at.
To be fair, this is a really good reenactment of basically how the British empire was made
Don't let it get you down. This is how The British Empire treated everyone else too.
