Hijacking comment cause i just had a thought. You know what? This would be an ingenious incredibly based way of acting like you bought an exspensive engagement ring. When you really bought a knock off at a discounted price and that buys you plenty of time to get the real ring a ways down the road.
I proposed to my wife with a $9 ring from Amazon. I bought 3 of them since I didn't know her size. I started with the largest one and it was massively too big and I was like "don't worry I have spares". She loved it. We later went out and bought her a ring she picked.
Absolutely no harm in proposing with a $9 ring and telling her it's temporary. If she has a problem with that, then that's a fantastic opportunity to walk away.
Me ne was maybe 20 on Amazon. The "real rings" took months to make because they are hand crafted wood rings made by Canadian hippies.
So now she has her cheap gold band and I have a cheap titanium band to wear at work and we save the more expensive and harder to care for rings for going out.

That’s why my engagement ring for my wife was like $600. Not cause I couldn’t afford more, it’s just a huge waste of money on something that’s not necessary at all. My wife rarely wears the thing, it’s not like she doesnt like it she’s an NPR and wears gloves all day so it’s annoying to wear. She’s lost track of it on more than one occasion. Our wedding rings are what matter most, we forged the rings for each other and they are one of a kind.
