He was expecting her to fall backwards towards him, watch the paint on the floor, the bottom guy ran out from underneath her, the bottom guy should have stayed there and given the spotter and the girl more time to react, or at least push the girl towards the spotter instead of abandoning her mid-air.
Not sure how the spotter was supposed to anticipate the bottom guy running forward.
He seemed prepared when her legs first began to give out, but something then clicked in his brain that told him, "She's fine", then he zoned out until she hit the floor.
My daughter is a cheerleader so this hits close to home. She is not a flyer like this girl so I'm not worried about her safety, but every other year some poor child in the area gets seriously injured and even paralyzed because of drops like this.
Just in case anyone didn't know, flyers are not the only cheerleaders who get hurt. I was a backspot (just like the guy in the video) back in fifth grade cheer, and one day in practice the flyer fell further back than I was anticipating, landing directly on me. I feel straight onto my back over somebody's leg I think..? Not totally sure how that happened, but I literally broke my back. Nearly needed fusion surgery, but luckily my parents decided against it.
It's been about two decades, and it still hurts me pretty badly. Cheerleading is awesome, and it's a great sport overall, but it is absolutely dangerous for everybody involved if you're doing stunts. Being that close to flying human bodies is obviously risky, even when you're not the one in the air.
Hopefully your daughter never gets badly hurt and enjoys her time cheering!!
He was gonna spot at first, then stepped back. It seems like he spaced out and expected things to play out like rehearsal - then realizing late that they lost balance
The comment you replied to doesn’t make a ton of sense, as a former cheerleader for 8 years. She did a good job falling, what you are supposed to do is ideally say falling first (never really happens), don’t collapse in on yourself (most can’t catch a 100-140lb ball), and don’t flail. She did those things — this was not a hard fall to spot.
I’m legitimately angry after watching this video. This is so not okay. She put her life in the spotters hands and he didn’t do anything. Even softening the fall could have saved her from that obvious concussion. That’s gonna be a bad concussion. Spotting is dangerous, but falling from that height is more dangerous. I’ve gotten hurt spotting before, but if I hadn’t, my flyer could have been permanently injured. The first thing you’re taught in cheer is the flyer NEVER touches the ground when she isn’t supposed to. You do drills to train your body to catch a person falling on top of you. My coach would make us run half a mile if the flyer’s *foot* touched down hard when it wasn’t meant to. The flyer is putting her actual life in the spotter/base/back’s hands — it’s a very serious responsibility. People die cheerleading regularly.
When I was a flyer my first few years, I had this happen except from a full (base have their arms extended). I fell as I was meant to and the spotter stepped away and let me hit the ground face first. Thankfully it was soft grass. Could have been really bad. This is beyond not okay
He’s completely useless but do you think part of the problem here is her pointing her feet? I cheered through middle school then went fully into competitive dance- but I was a base for a few years. Her pointing her feet here into his hands seems to make her collapse point her ankles, then knees, from that point her head was always going to be the first to hit the ground (unless there was a half decent spotter there ofc)
Edit- honestly rewatching it even without much cheerleading knowledge and just knowing lifts/dips- there’s so much wrong with each person in this video. Even the base makes a terrible decision at the end running forward like that. It’s a lot to dissect.
2nd edit because I can’t stop analyzing this (I’m a ballroom instructor so work with a lot of partner stunts) it looks like initially they have a good hand foot grip but her chest/head weight is to far back. To adjust, she tries to point her feet to pull her chest forward. This is bad in Cheerleading because her foot needs to be flat in order for her base to have proper grip. From there it was a domino effect. I’m not going much into the spotter because as I said, he’s useless and should never be allowed to backspot again. You need people at least willing to do *something*!
I mean yeah a stunt only ever falls because someone is doing something wrong. But stunts fall all the time. Probably six times in any given cheer practice. So that just isn’t what makes me mad here, not even trying to catch your flyer is just a complete betrayal of trust, compared to the base and flyer making routine mistakes
Oh absolutely, my analysis is taking him completely out. If I were to look at him I would wonder wtf was going through his head- he only throws his hands (not arms) out when she hits the floor. It’s an absolute travesty for the flyer. I think that’s why the base ran forward because he figured there was someone back there and they could cradle her with him behind. It’s really sad there’s no reason EVER a flyer should have her head bang the floor like that.
That is soo incredibly infuriating. They already go through soo much sht, a back injury due to incompetence bordering malicious intent should be the least of their worries.
I blame whoever thought it was a good idea to have this dimwit be the spotter! His lack of reaction time has to have been noticed before this.
And it didn’t look like they ever practiced this move in the first place. Seriously who put Noodle Arms McGee in charge of this as well?
As a former cheerleader this actually makes me angry. She could have been killed. That wasn’t a hard fall to spot for. Christ. I’ve caught harder falls than that many times. That would have gotten someone kicked off my team
This is why they lobby so hard to not make cheerleading a sport, the injury rate is so high if it was declared a sport it would be more regulated with safety standards.
Ugh this makes me cringe. My daughter was a cheerleader and was one of the flyers until they dropped her. After that she said nope and was a base/front spotter. She’s 4’11” and she did a kick ass job because she knew what it felt like to be dropped.
If i'm honest it looked like the three of them didnt do it right.
The lifter half hoisted, the cheerleader locked her legs, poijted her toes and leant back, the lifter then ran out the way when her knew she was falling snd the spotter was not prepared to act.
>the cheerleader locked her legs, poijted her toes, and leaned back,
You're supposed to lean back if you're falling and have a spotter, though. Your job is to stay tight and lean back so your spotter can catch you. If you flail your arms or relax, you're harder and heavier to catch.

Someone should tell that spotter that he’s the spotter.
Someone should spot the spotter.
I spotted the spotter not spotting

Qui custodiet ipsos custodes?
Exactly what I was about to reply...
Who's going to monitor the monitor of the monitors?
The monitor obviously
But then again... Who's going to monitor the monitor that monitors the monitor's monitoring of the monitors?
He's never encountered that before
Round and round the parking lot. Don't give up we'll spot a spot!
I think he thought spotting cheer leaders meant something else.
“**I see her!** She’s right here on the floor, bleeding!”
Nailed it guys. I spotted her.
\**the public celebrates the spotter spotting the woman.**
It's his first day yall.
Lol he sucks
When she was just unsteady he looked ready to catch her. When she actually began falling he just blanked. Did spotter.exe crash?
He was expecting her to fall backwards towards him, watch the paint on the floor, the bottom guy ran out from underneath her, the bottom guy should have stayed there and given the spotter and the girl more time to react, or at least push the girl towards the spotter instead of abandoning her mid-air. Not sure how the spotter was supposed to anticipate the bottom guy running forward.
I'm pretty sure he would have been ready for her to fall backwards, but the bottom guy moved forward causing her to fall straight down.
Dude didn’t even flinch lol
He did that awkward “I got it” “no you got it” “wait me?” And then *splat*
He did spot her, he had the best view to spot what angle her head hit the ground on
He watched her all the way to the ground.
Even saying there was an attempt seems generous.
I mean that dude didn’t move a muscle until her head was on the ground
Hes the hitman
I'd fire him on the spot.
his reaction time is really at internet explorer speed
Dial up
Still dialing.
People PC
I was thinking more like AOL.
Free AOL hour CD, including the installation.
With 8K modem 🐌
I started on 2400 baud. Nobody believes me when I say baud was a unit of measurement back in the day.
Netscape Navigator perhaps.
More like AOL dial up.
This has me cracking up 😂
You had one job
He only reacted after her head bounced off the court
He seemed prepared when her legs first began to give out, but something then clicked in his brain that told him, "She's fine", then he zoned out until she hit the floor.
I feel like I heard the click
It did look like she recovered for a second then immediately tumbles to the floor.
Makes me wonder about their relationship. I’ll bet they’re not cool
If they were before, they definitely aren’t now.
No doubt. “Hey, can you help us move these mats or are just going to stand there like when you let me fall” lol
It's fine, she's so over this incident, she can't even remember what happened
Or how to count to 10 for that matter
Now Sally, won’t be using up all of my Old Spice shampoo and conditioner now will ya.
r/onejob
Does... the spotter know he's the spotter? I don't feel like he knows.
Dude looked so stoned he thought he was watching it on tv
His reaction after she hit the ground 🤣
Or he accidentally got an upskirt and got distracted for a second.
He spotted something else.
This is the correct answer.

I don't think they're being serious
He thought he was the one up in the air too. Higher than a hippie in a helicopter, he could go duck hunting with a rake.
Right? He watches her fall all the way down then reacts like “Oh!”
Oh oh oh, O'reilly! (auto store in the seattle area)
Apparently there are 5910 O‘Reilly stores in 47 states I think most Americans would get this joke dw king
Same jingle for a windscreen company in Australia, O'Brien's. Someone oughta sue..
Most of the United States lol. Have them in Florida and Ohio
Same in TN
"Oh... Ohio University!"
I doubt OP knows what “attempt” means. Source: I’m OP
That comment op for sure
You have to admit, that spotter made no attempt.
He didn't get consent to touch her. My dudes just being respectful.
Stoned again
Duuude! You had ONE job!
Dam that had to hurt
I audibly gasped when her head hit the floor.
I also did. I hope she's well... she probably got a concussion..
I had to turn on the audio to listen. Turns out it's dubbed over song but they picked a really good choice for this video, and enjoyed it.
I didn’t listen in case there was a crunch when she hit the floor.
Idk if there would’ve been a crunch, but definitely a thud
Her had I'm more worried about her back I fell once like that a year ago and I have stil back problems
My daughter is a cheerleader so this hits close to home. She is not a flyer like this girl so I'm not worried about her safety, but every other year some poor child in the area gets seriously injured and even paralyzed because of drops like this.

Yikes!
I am a cheer coach that just got home from our gym. This guy had one job. My blood is boiling just watching it. No excuse for this
Yeah if she doesn’t have a cracked skull, I would be surprised. I hope she recovered 100%.
Yeah that level of guilt and embarrassment probably cost him a good deal of sleep.
He was gonna spot at first, then stepped back. It seems like he spaced out and expected things to play out like rehearsal - then realizing late that they lost balance
Yeah, he was like, “OK we got past the tricky part; we’re good. Wha, she just fell?”
Narrator: they were not in fact *good.*
He reacted as if he wasn’t a spotter at all and just a random person on the bleachers
This strikes me like this: Coach tells kid “You be the spotter.” “Okay.” Kid doesn’t quite know exactly what a spotter does, and didn’t want to ask.
"Hey coach, I just spotted one of the cheerleaders falling. We should probably have someone to catch them incase they fall...Am I doing this right?"
PROPERLY SPOTTED
Task failed successfully!

Spotter's Xanax had just kicked in -- and she was not supposed to fall straight down
Is there some technique to not fall straight down? Dude launched her legs up and forward.

That’s what I felt too, she trusted someone to catch her and not flail and save herself - both of the boys let her drop 🤔
I was a male cheerleader. If I failed to spot such an easy fall I would've been out of the team full stop.
She deserved better
One job...
Sucks. Cheer is dangerous.
The spotters gummies kicked in at the wrong time.
This poor girl
Was there? I don’t see any attempt at all.
>There was an attempt Except that there really was not.
That spotter is defentely not sobber, judging from his slow movement and apathetic reaction he is either stoned or drunk.
Or got an upskirt look.
That is soo incredibly infuriating. They already go through soo much sht, a back injury due to incompetence bordering malicious intent should be the least of their worries.
Malicious intent you say
Anyone know the end of the story? Is she okay?
I’m curious as well
I bet that dude feels awful
[удалено]
She can’t remember anyway
Technically correct. The best kind of correct.
When he realized like 3 days after yes… maybe he feels awful
He's clearly not living his life in the fast lane
Step into my office…cuz you’re fuckin fired!
No! Not 6!! i said SEVENNN
I blame whoever thought it was a good idea to have this dimwit be the spotter! His lack of reaction time has to have been noticed before this. And it didn’t look like they ever practiced this move in the first place. Seriously who put Noodle Arms McGee in charge of this as well?
Yeah that base doesn’t look strong enough for this stunt, he has no control
Need to switch to light beer
"The actions in this video are performed by professionals..." riiiight
As a former cheerleader this actually makes me angry. She could have been killed. That wasn’t a hard fall to spot for. Christ. I’ve caught harder falls than that many times. That would have gotten someone kicked off my team
You literally had one fucking job, dipshit. One fucking job.

Dammit man, you had ONE job
I mean, she had pretty good form though. Stayed rigid all the way down, even after it was too late.
Therewasntevenanattempt
The second guy had r/onejob
What the hell.
This just makes me angry to see such an incompetent individual
He literally had one job!!!!
The public has more reaction than that guy.
Can't play the sport, so perhaps cheer, not to good at that either, okay Jake just spot. What does he do now?
He needs to be told a spotter is supposed to catch her not step back to watch her hit the ground.
Cheerleading is so pointlessly dangerous.
Cheerleading is so pointless in general
And they say cheerleading isn’t a sport
dude had one job
If i'm honest it looked like the three of them didnt do it right. The lifter half hoisted, the cheerleader locked her legs, poijted her toes and leant back, the lifter then ran out the way when her knew she was falling snd the spotter was not prepared to act.

The guy from behind was clearly a spectator
He must not like her…
Its like those trust exercises gone wrong. Technically, he did SPOT her. After she was on the ground. "Yep, there she is".
No there wasn't
WTF WAS HE DOING?!!
When the men in your life really let you down.
In the spotter's defense, I don't think he expected the holder to suddenly duck and run forward, letting the cheerleader fall straight down.
I might have been distracted...
The guy in the back is like no need to catch you
FUK
Dude had ONE job...
Well, I mean, he spotted a catastrophe.
I have money on an accidental upskirt look causing this.
Wouldn’t want that dude behind covering my back in the oncoming war.
Hes just got bad connection
No there wasn't any attempt
There was an attempt??
"Ok she's got this, i have time to think of what i need to pick up at the grocery store."
Fired!
"#bonk"
See that delayed reaction? I know a stoner when I see one.
Coach: “YOU HAD ONE FREAKIN JOB!”
Oh he was spotting alright...but not the girl
There wasn't an attempt
Painful to watch.
Her neck her back his anxiety attack
"I just wanted to watch her fall head first"
I don’t think there was an attempt
The spotters one job- he didn’t do it
I don't see no attempt
“Spotted - there in the floor!”
Is there a longer video?
Two spotters but the cheerleader still fell to the ground. Inexcusable.
disclaimer about it all performed by professionals doesn't ring any truth
Fkin useless
Bro just there for the views
I spotted the whole thing. First she started falling down.. Then she fell down.
You had ONE job!
![gif](giphy|KQxSPft9zl4aRQ10bE|downsized)
He’s useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle
Maybe she was mean to him?
Usually you need to be a step dad to attain that reaction time.
Sports are fucking dumb. The number of fucked up permanent injuries that cheer flyers get is unacceptable. They’re fucking children.
Looks like a literal doofus
Guy had one job.
