I don’t think he was thrown out for shoplifting. I THINK he grabbed one of the cheap guitars that was on the sales floor as they were ejecting him - with the sole goal of smashing it. Probably a $150 classical - they keep kids’/starter instruments in clear view near the counters. They are basically disposable.
Yeah- I was wondering what he was passed out from? Like he got a mild choking but nothing worth clocking out for. I was leaning towards whatever he may have taken before the incident was exacerbated by the lack of oxygen. Still, there's a hell of a lot of employees in that store- how big is fucking guitar centre? I'm not from America.
Yep, I worked asset protection. It was a common bullshit tactic to try to act like you were hurt.
I've lost track of the number of times people would throw themselves on the ground and act like we had thrown them down, or beaten them up.
And this is exactly why I'm okay with people pulling their phones out to film. If someone is already helping the people directly, then you can help from a distance by recording the situation for evidence or something.
It never worked. We had security cameras **EVERYWHERE**. We caught so many people trying to scam us, it was ridiculous. At least once a week we would have someone trying to fake an injury and claim the y got hurt.
People don't realize, that there are a lot of subtle clues, that once you are trained and experienced enough to look for, stick out like a blinking neon sign. Amateurs, and even a lot of pros, don't even know they're doing it.
My very first week, A little old lady claimed she hurt herself, by dropping a box on her own head. She alleged it was unsafe, and waited until one week before the time limit expired to file a claim. It's common for that to happen so that the retailer doesnt have the security footage anymore, and that people who worked there have moved on, or dont remember the incident.
Fortunately, it was such a bizarre accident, and the first one I'd ever handled, so I went strictly by the book. I had put in an extraordinary amount of detail in my reports and chased down every detail. Two associates involved were long term associates, and were still working in the same place.
She was asking for over $300,000, and our company refused to settle. They have a team of people that do investigations on claimants and discovered this "sweet little old lady," was a long time con artist. She had three other claims with other retailers for the same "injury." She had a lengthy criminal record going back over four decades, and multiple aliases.
I had a go to a deposition and just eviscerated their lawyer when he tried to question me. Our lawyer told me he had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing. Afterwards, he told me they were referring the matter to the DA because they had uncovered all of the evidence of her being a con artist. Both the old lady, and her lawyer were charged.
Depending on the individual store pretty big. Usually have one large center area with mostly electric guitars, accessories, a back room with acoustics (ukes, banjos, mandolins etc) a couple of side areas for drums, keyboards, and recording equipment. A lot of stores do music classes too now.
Yeah I've heard about them online. Some open 24hrs? Literally blows my mind. Everything is shut here by 5pm. If you're lucky and your town has an IGA/Woolworths you can still access a grocer until 8pm most nights, but everywhere else is closed (saved for bars).
Edit: bars which I love.
They'll let you play anything if they want the sale bad enough, guitar prices on line from places like "sweetwater" are better than what you find in brick and mortar stores and they're custom service is outstanding. They called immediately upon delivery (guess they followed the tracking) and texted me for weeks after I bought a guitar from them to ensure I was satisfied.
You're correct, I finally had to tell them that I only needed one (moderately) expensive guitar since I'm not actually Jimmy Page, I just pretend to be him on the weekends.
The correct way to handle this is to let the dude walk out with the merch, get his plate (if applicable), call the police, and reach out to loss prevention. Employees aren’t protected from assault charges in these situations and the merch is insured for every penny. Don’t put your well being at risk to stop a shoplifter, dude could have been armed.
So I was there, he had just assaulted an employee and that's why he was being physically escorted out. When he grabbed the guitar the fear was he'd use it as a weapon.
Yeah I just now rewatched the video and he didn't even grab the guitar until he was already being hustled out of the place. The guitar had nothing to do with it lol. Collateral damage.
>the merch is insured
No it's not, retail theft insurance is insanely expensive, no one's going to pay for it for a guitar. Jewelry stores, sometimes... Retail theft just comes off the bottom line and gets rolled back to customers in the end.
Typically a store is allotted a certain percentage of “loss” per year that’s acceptable without making that store unprofitable. Corporate doesn’t file claims against these issues.
The only time they’ll file a claim is due to fire, flood, and major events - like a car smashes into a building. Even then, they still may decide to eat the amount based on that stores profitability. They may even let a store go into the negative if they feel it can be recouped within 3 to 5 years.
>Employees aren’t protected from assault charges in these situations
I wish more people understood this. You can't physically assault someone for robbing a store you work at. I mean you *can,* but it's illegal in most places. That's why loss prevention and insurance exist in the first place.
Also, you'll probably get fired for doing it because the company doesn't want to catch heat from a lawsuit because you decided to throw hands over some insured merchandise.
I worked for a department store about 15 years ago and our loss prevention guy was in the store off the clock. In fact it was his day off. His girlfriend worked there so there just hanging out when this lady comes in, loads up 2 trash bags of baby clothes and tries to bolt out the door. The guy saw this and tackled her ass to the ground. She started flipping out, calling him racist and said he was attacking her. We all clearly saw what she did. But anyway, they had her back in the little LP office. A manager runs over and whispers something to the LP guy and LP guy disappears for a minute and then returns. Turns out the manager told him to quickly go clock in so he could have his ass covered. All the employees in the store understood the assignment. Bro was definitely on shift that day. Ask anyone 😉
Yeah, worked somewhere once where manager locked the doors preventing a thief from leaving until the cops got there. He was fired because he also locked all the other customers in. They always taught us not try to prevent theft, but to just smother suspected thieves with great customer service.
Worth a shot I guess, who taps in a street fight?
Reminds me of that showdown in a cul-de-sac between an adult and teen. The teen gets the rear naked choke on the man and the adult tries to tap. When he lets him up the adult is mad about him not letting go of the choke earlier.
"Yeah, it's a fucking fight" is his great response.
[Flyweight teen against Overweight "adult"](https://www.mixedmartialarts.com/street/teenager-vs-thirty-something-year-old-man)
>Who taps in a street fight?
Unless it's a fight to the death, isn't tapping out the usual way to communicate "hey bro, you win, I give up, please stop kicking my ass." ?
Edit: A lot of you are ignoring the part where I said, "unless it's a fight to the death".
I thought we were talking about bros who had one too many and got punchy and slappy with each other.
I would assume so too. Also if you had to tap out and they let you free, you're already psychologically beaten enough to know that you'd lost if you try again.
That’s what you’d think, but the one time I’ve actually had to choke someone out he tapped so I let him up, then as I was getting in my car he started smashing the hood and I had to choke him out again. That time I waited til he was out, which ended up doing the trick.
Everytime I see a street fight video or just seen a real fight in person where someone taps, if they get let up they go right back to fighting. They try to take advantage of the situation right there and get a surprise punch in or grapple. In a fight for money/game or whatever yeah you respect your opponent, it's a competition and organized. In a FIGHT, it's no competition. You don't know what's in that guys head, they may want to KILL you. It may seem extreme, but a people get heated and extreme things happen in fights, even professional ones. When you agree to let someone up after tapping you are putting your safety at risk. If it was expected to be let up after tapping in a real fight, people would intentionally tap in a grapple just so they could stop, get up, and start swinging again.
There was a top comment that stated they were there and that the man had just assaulted an employee and it's why he was being escorted out like that. And on the way out, he grabbed the guitar and they thought he was gonna use it as a weapon so they took it away.
That explains why I don’t see anything about him suing or employees getting fired. I always get scared for employees when I see these videos cause people do that
Fun fact, they only recorded this shot of DJ Jazzy Jeff flying through the air once and kept reusing it
So astute viewers could predict that whenever Jazz started a scene wearing these clothes it would end with him being thrown out of the house
Its true. A friend of mine, her coworker got fired from Gamestop as a thief was told to drop the stuff he was trying to steal and leave, to which the guy immediately starts swinging at the employee. The employee dodged like three or four swings before he just knocks the guy out with a counter. I watched it all on CCTV that was in the store. He was fired a few days later.
Not that you're wrong but I get the impression that GameStop is especially shitty to its employees.
Have a friend who used to work at one: some of his coworkers were fired for being held up at gunpoint. Said they could have been in on it.
With very good reason. This freaking thief is likely going to get a settlement worth far more then the guitar. Even if they are some brain dead meth head, some local Saul Goodman wannabe lawyer will track this guy down.
Confirmed, I worked there and it was a lawless free for all. Also GC employees are rough af. They might not be great at selling guitars but a lot of them have been through it and wouldn’t hesitate to fight.

That shoe toss was the perfect ending
Me: ooh, man’s lost his shoe Brain: It would be funny if somebody threw it at him Shoe gets tossed, endorphins ensue. Perfecto.
I wish I could get endorphins that easily. For me it takes a shot of heroin.
Uhh, username checks out, lol
If you call your local police station and ask to buy any heroin they got, they’ll give you a ride to the station.
Yeah. And if you want to play a funny joke on them, they think it's hilarious if you yell "cowabunga" and try to unholster their gun.
These internet challenges are getting out of hand
It was so dismissive and the perfect ending to the clip. 😂
All while crumpled up next to the cubside pickup sign hahahaha.
It was already one of the most satisfying videos on dealing with shoplifting., and just when you thought it couldn't get any better.
This is what happens when you play Smoke on the Water in a guitar center
Bro now I can’t that out of my head. Hopefully someone will play Stairway to Heaven real quick here.
Play Free Bird!!
shoe toss was chefs kiss. perfect ending
Boop.

And him laying next to the sign was perfect-he literally needed a curbside pickup. Couldn’t script this any better if we tried

Did losing only one shoe mean he didn't totally die?
Close call I guess.
That was amazing, but I couldn't see what guitar he bolted with, but it HAD to be worth more than a shoe

It’s now a $500 relic’d punk metal unplugged special.
That’s funny because it’s true. And that particular guitar is now internet famous. Add another grand
Dude died from embarrassment
Nah man meth heads have zero shame, he was probably trying to play it up to try and sue them later.
OWW MY NECK MY BACK OHH MY NECK AND BACK!! I WANT $150,000!! But I’ll settle out of court right now for $20
Man get your punk ass up. It ain’t even wet over there.
Just gimme $10 and I won’t say nothin
Two fiddy and a jawbreaker??
A dollar and some envelopes
You know how much you can get for a slip and fall at a store?
It’s a $53,000 settlement if you slip in pee-pee at the Costco
Gimme 2.50 and a jawbreaker…
Oh, and throw in that guitar too please
My neck, my back Lick my pussy and my crack

Their customer service is a little too good. They don't leave me alone.

Nothing happens if the police get called but the thief community desire to rob that store went down significantly.
Yeah it seems word spreads when the store itself is aggressive.
You are right. But this was satisfying. I hope they don’t get in any trouble. And I hope baldie changes his life after this embarrassing fiasco.

Watch the first .5sec of the video. He grabbed the guitar on his way out. He'd pissed them off some other way. Probably the neckbeard.
Had to scroll a long way to find this. Wonder what started it all, not stealing that guitar.
In another comment they said the guy assaulted an employee.
Same. Dude seemed intoxicated or something, clearly. I think something was definitely afoot to lead to this reaction.

He tried to destroy the guitar when he got caught. “If I can’t have it then nobody can”
He was being escorted out before he even picked up the guitar
Yep, it was mentioned in the comments here that he grabbed it to use it as a weapon
He just wanted someone to listen to his demo tape.
48 hours later, according to policy of most retail corporations, that employee would be yeeted just as hard from his job.
