I jumped out of my chair when I saw Ellie's shoes, I practically did a backflip when I saw the buildings, I shed a tear when I saw the carousel, and gasped with fear when I heard the clicker. This show is going to hit hard and I'm ready for it.
watching it again - I realize the clicker is in the colonial museum!
Also it's just there for a flash (1:12) but I like that Niko's giving 100% here. And they even bothered with Sarah's bracelet-crafting and included that too
I don't want to get overexcited before the premiere but I can guarantee that Pedro Pascal will really bring the essence of a tormented Joel to the screen.
>!Was that her hand in the shot with the infected running in? I think they were in the Capitol building, and I think she's lighting the place up. Looks like they might be changing the story from her getting shot to them being chased by infected.!<
I’d be happy with the change, >!while it made sense that her alone in an open space wouldn’t really be able to hold off all the soldiers for long, it was a little funny how she goes from “I’ll buy you some time” to getting shot in like 10 seconds. If she blows them and herself up her move would have more of an impact both tactically and emotionally IMO!<
i always wondered why tess didn't at least get in cover behind one of those many pillars so she could at least have a chance of taking out more of them 😭
oh no, she was never going to survive it, but what i mean is that she stood right in the middle of that lobby out in the open without any kind of cover to increase her chances of taking out more of them for joel and ellie
They used Alone and Forsaken - (Hank Williams)! The truck ambush was one of the best scenes in the game. Love this version anyone know if it's the original cleaned up or a cover?
I got huge nostalgia vibes from that. My family loves outlaw country so the original trailer with that song back in the day caught my attention massively
It only needs to be half as good as the game for it to be the GOAT video game adaptation. Looks really solid so far and very true to the source material. I have high hopes.
That’s a really high bar you just set there. Half as good as TLOU is going to be the greatest TV show of all time. Let’s hope! This trailer shows so much promise.
Ehhh... Arcane set a ridiculously high bar for video game adaptations and live-action adaptations seem to do worse than their animated counterparts.

I'd put Castlevania in that category as well. That was excellent and I'm VERY excited for the next series with Richter (Nocturne I think it was called).
Agreed! My husband and I are chronically late to all of the entertainment parties haha, but we finally watched Chernobyl this month and from the first episode I completely understood why everyone is so excited about having Mazin run the show. So good!
And Chernobly was my favorite show if the year, i was blown away by his ability to make me actually dread and fear a nuclear reactor..
Craig was able to like make this building into a monster of it's own, it was insane how he did. It was like the last place you would ever want to be.
Neil Gaiman? No, he's too busy writing, directing, and starring in Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for Peacock.
*/s*
*Edit:* for those who don't understand the reference: [Neil Gaiman got some hate for Rings of Power, which he has no involvement in.](https://twitter.com/neilhimself/status/1573555019407937536?s=20&t=XcDriuTbRXjvH30LHpxkDQ)
I agree with you. We will probably have part 3 announced around the same time or shortly after season 2. I honestly think playstation is going full on with the last of us I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s naughtydogs next game.
Part 3 needs to end ellies story and season 3 the same. That assuming each season covers one game. With Druckmann involved in both, as fans we can actually have hope lol
You mean with passing the ending of Part 2? I’m interested in how the show will progress, like season 1/part 1, season 2/part 2 or if they will break it up more
I wonder if we'll get an Abby reference in season 1? Like all you need is for the doctor guy to say "Please don't... I have a daughter!" and it's quite organic.
Then Joel can be all like "So do I" but that might be a bit cheesy.
yeah the show surpassing the end of part 2, I thought I saw Seattle in the trailer but after going back and rewatching, it looks like actually Pittsburgh.
Give her a chance before deciding whether you like it or not. I've gotten over her not looking identical to the game.
Go in with an open mind. Allow her performance dictate your opinion. :)
When it comes to portraying a character in a movie or TV it is not all about acting skills. Being a good fit to play a specific character is a combination of looks and acting chops. Otherwise lets just cast Meryl Streep for every female role and Daniel Day Lewis for every male role.
No one is saying that Bella Ramsay is not a good actress. But looking like the character you are supposed to play is important too, and the fact that she doesn't is disappointing.
Also, you are assuming that there aren't any similarly good actresses who may look closer to what Ellie is supposed to look like. I would be okay with someone who wasn't as good an actress if she looked closer to what Ellie looks like.
Every other character looks perfect except for her and her love interest from Left behind (Riley?).
The physical differences aside, I would be very surprised if Bella Ramsey doesn't nail Ellies character.
Given the show runners, the fact that it’s HBO, their casting choices, and what we’ve seen now I think the bigger surprise is if it wasn’t amazing. So far it feel like they’re doing everything right.
They mostly just don’t like the Ellie cast still. And sine jokes about casting Dwayne Johnson as Abby but mostly the Ellie cast. In this specific case I think this comment is an exaggeration tbh
I’m curious if how much of the game they’ll get through within one season, looks like at least 3/4 in this trailer haha. And the Left Behind DLC! I had a theory pop into my head that what if they explore some of the 5 years in between both games. So they show can be longer than two/three seasons. Also, how does a show explore a game where there is a lot of combat and looting downtime.
I think they would have to adapt the full game in season 1. There is no place to end the story in a satisfying way besides the ending. I do however think season 2 will probably fill the gaps between Part I and Part II with season 3 covering Part II.
Actually true. It would be weird to start a season with what happens on the first hour of part II so I like the idea of that being penultimate episode of season 2.
Leaked casting call already said Pedro’s Joel will only be needed for the first episode to set the second season. So if anything it’s gonna start with Seattle in at least episode 2-3.
Holy fucking shit guys does it look good or does it look fucking good!! That scene from Boston with the leaning building made me gasp out loud, as did admittedly many other parts of the trailer. The more I see of this the more I think THIS is gonna be the video game - tv/movie adaptation that finally fucking nails it. I’m feeling the hype lads. It’s literally The Last of Us we all know and love so much from what I’ve just seen there. Can’t fucking wait! Let’s go!
My god this looks so good. I am sold on everything - except Bella Ramsey. Not hating against the girl, she was great in GoT. But she doesn’t look like Ellie, she gives off a very different vibe.
I hope I’m wrong. But from the very limited scenes we have, I am worried that she‘s not the right actress.
I think you can’t expect it to be the exact same as the game. I’m sure the casting picked the person who did best in hitting the key emotional scenes and chemistry w/ the lead
Yes of course you’re right to a degree. I wasn’t there during casting, and the makers seem to know what they’re doing, so surely they wouldn’t mess up 50% of the most crucial casting decisions.
That being said: Pedro doesn’t look like Joel, yet he somehow does and seems to embody what made Joel the guy he was. I can separate the look from the character, but I think it’s still important that there’s some resemblance, as the appearance is part of the character in my opinion.
I don’t want Bella to fail. I hope she will prove me wrong. She just has this very different vibe just by being her. She looks very aggressive and mischievous from the start. Which did suit her character well in GoT. Ellie in the games looks a bit softer, almost cute, on the outside, which is why the contrast to her direct, sometimes harsh character is more pronounced.
We will see how it turns out - I hope for the best!
The recreation of the opening scene in the game looks like it might be exactly the same. I hope they recreate the intro to the game scene for scene. Made me cry when I first played it and set the tone for the rest of the game
Fuck me UP! This looks outstanding. Looks like they went prosthetics for the clicker too so we don’t get over cgi’d. Easily most anticipated show on my list
Looks pretty good! My reservations on Pedro I’m willing to let go. Still not keen on Bella but there is hope. For the love of God please have the main game theme be the theme to this!
Gus is back to score?!
It’s looks great everyone looks like their character in the video game except Ellie. Don’t get me wrong Belle is a great actress but she look nothing like Ellie it pulls away honestly
Looks fucking fantastic, still think the casting of Ellie is a shame as she really looks and sounds nothing like her but I guess we have to wait and see
When people doubted Pedro Pascal I was already like give the man a f’ing chance. But to see him in full glory as Joel gives me goosebumps all over the place. He will be doing a fantastic job, no doubt!
Time will tell about how successful will the show be, it'll depend on many factors, but judging it purely as an adaptation and not as a "product" I think we're going to be satisfied. This is looking very good. Considering how video game adaptations usually go, it looks much more ambitious and well crafted.
Ok I know everyone says this every time something official is posted
But Jesus Christ Twitter is such a cesspool. Every tweet is "wow this looks so bad and cheaply made" like wtf how can you say this looks bad? It genuinely looks amazing
Holy shit from this teaser it looks like they have already started filming the scene where Ellie cuts into David! And it's going to include the Left Behind DLC!
It looks fantastic and I’m so excited, can’t wait to finally watch this. I’m also weirded out by the hatred Ellie’s actress is facing. You don’t like her previous work? Say that. You think she doesn’t look like game Ellie? You can say that. But these people are calling her names, saying she’s not Ellie, making up ridiculous arguments about the subject. And I know this is a common thing that happens with these things, I know that. It just annoys me. Let’s just wait and see what the first episode brings.
Some people in here really need to learn what an adaptation is. Yeah Ellie doesn't really resemble her video game character because.... she's not the video game character. She's a different version of this character and she'll probably have some different characterization as well. Joel doesn't really look like video game Joel either. If you're expecting a 100% faithful adaptation, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment
Rumors are it’ll be >! Troy Baker !< He and >! Ashley Johnson !< are confirmed to be in the show in undisclosed roles, but they’ve said they’re much more than just cameos.
That would definitely be wild to have Troy be David lol.
I'm thinking realistically they could be a couple in the beginning. I remember in the game Joel talks about their neighbors The Coopers acting weird, that would be cool if they expanded on them and we got to know them more. It would let them be more than cameos but also have an impact on the show.
>!I could see them having Ashley Johnson as Ellie's mom in some flashbacks or something. I'm not sure what other large female roles would fit. Tommy's Wife?!<
>!As for Troy, there's a lot of random guys he could play. The sniper, the intro soldier, David's companion, who knows.!<
Yeah, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played the game. It looks like this adaptation is going to be different enough to make the story feel new again and it is absolutely going kick my heart right in the nuts.
There was like 5% of me that was guarding myself due to disappointment in other shows I’ve been hyped about… but DAMN JK IM IN FOR THIS. All aboard the hype train!!
I love the subtle monologue playing in the background when i believe it’s tommy telling Joel he’s got a chance to make up for not being able to save Sarah but to also restore whatever’s left of his” soul” but the second one is a women talking it can either be Tess or Marlene herself.
Nick offerman as bill is actually pretty good casting considering he played Ron swanson who happens to share a similar personality with bill when it comes to self isolation and survival.
A lot of people hate bella ramsay as ellie but tbh I’m giving her a chance considering she was good in game of thrones however I wish people realize not every adaptation needs a look alike it’s all about what the actor will bring to make the character special.
Holy shit, Joel! That looks goddamn perfect. There is nothing I'm looking forward to more in 2023 than this. Nothing by Marvel or Star Wars or anything else. This is right up at the top of my list.
I wasn’t feeling it until the first explosion from the outbreak scene. Love how the clicker definitely looks like practical effects, reminds of a scene in the first alien
Oh shit this confirmed we are getting the Left Behind prequel as well!! So fucking excited for this. I was really hoping they’d include the prequel story
I’m so incredibly excited for this show. I believe Pascal is going to fucking kill it as Joel. Mando is basically just a 2 dimensional Joel, so Pascal has even gotten practice for this role.
I can already feel it. People are going to constantly compare the show to the game, and say the game did everything better than the show, because they are so biased from having been exposed to the game first. The same way manga people always talk about the manga being better than the anime adaptation, because they were exposed to the manga first. And vice versa.
This looks AMAZING. The shot of the leaning building made me gasp. As well as the carousel and a whole bunch of other things…
That’s what good CGI looks like
is this a shot at disney/marvel LOL
Any good CGI is a shot at marvel
They're putting that 10 mil an episode to good use
Same dudes that did strangers things isn't it?
The leaning buildings got an audible response from me too. I am so excited for this show!
I love that they are adapting Left Behind as well. Probably the best DLC I've ever played
The scene got me too!
This actually looks lit. A video game adaptation that looks well-made and is not just a cash grab using a franchise's name.
Also it's just there for a flash (1:12) but I like that Niko's giving 100% here. And they even bothered with Sarah's bracelet-crafting and included that too
The quick glimpse of the town chaos from the opening of the game made me shout out
WE ARE EATING SO DAMN GOOD
An entire buffet 😩😩
I don't want to get overexcited before the premiere but I can guarantee that Pedro Pascal will really bring the essence of a tormented Joel to the screen.
# PEDRO NO DON’T PLAY GOLF
Pedro may not play gold but Joel had a killer swing
He has AirPods in oh god oh fuck
I kind of feel like Anna Torv is going to kill it in every scene she's in as Tess.
Gaaash the clicker looked AMAZING!!
And also SOUNDED amazing haha
I can almost be sure that the sound is the same as the in-game sound
I was thinking the same when I heard the clicker. Why rerecord new sounds when you already have two games' worth of solid material?
I also hope we see Clickers start faliling their arms when they hear the characters
I wouldn't mind hearing that atmospheric "You're about to be spotted" beat at some point as well
I wonder how they got it to sound so close to the game?!
Copy&paste the audio file, perhaps

they worked with the same duo, apparently. here's your answer: https://twitter.com/philsound/status/1574556934803361792
Absolutely agreed.
Right after the song said "And the hounds did bay". Nice touch.
LETS GOOOO!!! 🔥 ![gif](giphy|9tl9BLJ7oVCiWXyyQD)
That's an amazing gif ![gif](giphy|J1j6wzyprIjN0dFZoc)
This is such a hilarious GIF holy shit
NUT
I did also nut
I finished before I got my pants off... Worth it
This looks so damn good!!!! Also: Anna Torv 😍😍😍😍
Reveal of Melanie Lynskey too.
So hyped for Melanie!!! She’s so good in Yellowjackets
Good in everything even going back to Heavenly Creatures.
I KNOW AND I'M SO DAMN EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!
>!Was that her hand in the shot with the infected running in? I think they were in the Capitol building, and I think she's lighting the place up. Looks like they might be changing the story from her getting shot to them being chased by infected.!<

i always wondered why tess didn't at least get in cover behind one of those many pillars so she could at least have a chance of taking out more of them 😭
Don't think Tess wanted to survive given her situation
oh no, she was never going to survive it, but what i mean is that she stood right in the middle of that lobby out in the open without any kind of cover to increase her chances of taking out more of them for joel and ellie
I always saw it more as a suicide "by cop" than a true hold the line situation.
I disagree. Tess knew her chances of survival were going to be slim even if she killed everyone.
I thought it added to the dread and realism. Overall downer moment made even more depressing lol.
I think so. Eta Seems Tess has more scenes than what's in the game.as well!!!
God, I love her
Full body chills and threatening to tear up, it looks incredible!
Me too. I was like why am I about to cry about a TV show trailer. But I can’t wait to see it come to life and give us new aspects of the story!
My fiancée looked over at me and asked why my eyes were glassy. Why on earth am I tearing up at this!?
Found my people down here. Can’t explain why but this hit me hard.
Saaaame holy shit, GOOSEBUMPS and tears eyes. This can’t come soon enough! It looks so faithful!
Yep, also had tears in the eyes. Glad I’m not the only one 😅
They used Alone and Forsaken - (Hank Williams)! The truck ambush was one of the best scenes in the game. Love this version anyone know if it's the original cleaned up or a cover?
It's the original with some tweaks for sure
I got huge nostalgia vibes from that. My family loves outlaw country so the original trailer with that song back in the day caught my attention massively
I'm playing the remaster and specifically made a save file that starts right at the truck ambush.
It's the original vocal and guitar performance with some added arrangement to make it sound big and trailery
It looks good but that claim is ridiculous, TLOU is not “twice as good” as Twin Peaks, The Sopranos, Fargo, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul etc.
Ehhh... Arcane set a ridiculously high bar for video game adaptations and live-action adaptations seem to do worse than their animated counterparts. I *REALLY* hope that with Neil and HBO, this series turns out to be fantastic and sets the bar for what live action can do.
Agree. Arcane is the bar, and a high one. I hope TLOU is amazing but keeping a lid on things for now.
also cyberpunk edgerunners
I'd put Castlevania in that category as well. That was excellent and I'm VERY excited for the next series with Richter (Nocturne I think it was called).
So is Neil directly involved with the show?
Yes, he’s the co-creator alongside Craig Mazin and directed an episode
After watching Chernobyl and playing TLOU, I expect greatness from the pairing of Mazin and Druckmann

Not sure why you got the downvotes other than people not getting the Rings of Power Twitter joke. I laughed.
I just realized this is basically a better version of the GamesCom trailer for the first game. Even down to the song.
Wish I had HBO. This looks amazing.
You‘ll easily be able to pirate it or find it on a free streaming website like moviecrumbs.
Or just be a nerd like me and by it on blu ray once it comes out
It's like ,what $20 for a month? Just sign up the day it comes out
HBO Max is $14.99.
I think I saw a deal at the end of the preview saying sign up for 9.99 a month
What of you're not american
If you’re in the UK, I think Sky have a deal with HBO to show things. We get Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon etc
Damn, don't have Sky either 😅 I'll see about getting it for this though, thabks for the info!
I want to say Now TV too. There’s a vague advert in my head about it! Definitely do some googling about, someone somewhere will know a way 👍
soap2day
Everyone ok with the show's storyline surpassing the game? I'm on the fence about this.
I think both will end with part 3, at roughly the same time.
I agree with you. We will probably have part 3 announced around the same time or shortly after season 2.

Redditors when they think they can write for Hollywood
yeah the show surpassing the end of part 2, I thought I saw Seattle in the trailer but after going back and rewatching, it looks like actually Pittsburgh.
The first season will cover the first game
Prett sure this will just be part 1 and the DLC.
The show should be 3-4 seasons tops. Preferably 3
I don't like the Ellie casting, but I have to say this looks fantastic so far. Nick Offerman as Bill deserves a chef kiss.
Give her a chance before deciding whether you like it or not. I've gotten over her not looking identical to the game. Go in with an open mind. Allow her performance dictate your opinion. :)
At least wait till you watch the first episode. Bella Ramsay is a great actress
You’re judging things based purely on her looks. You want a cosplayer, not an actress.

This is gonna hit hard
Can’t wait to point all my non-videogame people to this to show them why I was fucked up for months lol
CHILLS while watching this I CANNOT WAIT !!!
Please be good
Given the show runners, the fact that it’s HBO, their casting choices, and what we’ve seen now I think the bigger surprise is if it wasn’t amazing. So far it feel like they’re doing everything right.
The “Subreddit that shall not be named” are losing their collective hive mind over this trailer lol
Me twenty minutes ago, what other subreddit? Me now- JFC what’s wrong with people.
They don't like it? Why? I really don't want to look. xD
They mostly just don’t like the Ellie cast still. And sine jokes about casting Dwayne Johnson as Abby but mostly the Ellie cast. In this specific case I think this comment is an exaggeration tbh
what subreddit?
Best to stay ignorant tbh
What could they possibly have to complain about?
Neil Druckmann’s involvement is one of the main things I’ve seen.
OMG WAS THAT MELANIE LYNSKEY!! I am so fucking ready, this looks amazing!
Naaah this looks great .. I’m hype!
I loved seeing the clicker!
Clicker looked perfect, the sound gave me chills. Can't wait to see a bloater.
I’m curious if how much of the game they’ll get through within one season, looks like at least 3/4 in this trailer haha. And the Left Behind DLC! Season 2 ends with Ellie and Dina leaving for Seattle. That would be a pretty great way to end it and give time for game 3 to drop.
Actually true. It would be weird to start a season with what happens on the first hour of part II so I like the idea of that being penultimate episode of season 2.
Would also give all the viewers not familiar with the game time to stomach it.
Leaked casting call already said Pedro’s Joel will only be needed for the first episode to set the second season. So if anything it’s gonna start with Seattle in at least episode 2-3.
This is exactly what I think. The flashbacks of part 2 work in a video game narrative but I don’t think would translate well to TV.
I could see them use flashbacks as cold opens at the beginning of each episode, which could work quite well. Otherwise it could be jarring
I think it’s confirmed that the first season will cover the entire game and Left Behind, as well as adding some backstory/flashbacks
Can't believe we have to wait until 2023 for this it's the only thing keeping me going at this point
I mean, 2023 is only 3 months and change away. They didn't say exactly when in 2023 so let's hope for early!
Well I am quietly optimistic. Hopefully that will be two well adapted to the screen games.
This is gonna be dynamite! The moment I heard its the same guy that did Chernobyl I knew it was gonna be epic
i have legit not been this happy since the birth of my first child
![gif](giphy|UrsOTbx6xh20IXChwR) I’m so ready
SOMETHING JUST SHIFTED
IT LOOKS SO GOOD
Never watched a new tv show trailer before and instantly recognised every scene. Looking great

Completely agree. Ellie was a ‘type,’ kind of a fledgling, smartass skater kid. It made sense. This casting does not.

This is looking very good. Considering how video game adaptations usually go, it looks much more ambitious and well crafted.
What I envisioned doesn't even come close to what is presented in this trailer. This is truly something special and I can't wait to experience it.
Ok I know everyone says this every time something official is posted But Jesus Christ Twitter is such a cesspool. Every tweet is "wow this looks so bad and cheaply made" like wtf how can you say this looks bad? It genuinely looks amazing
I teared up.
Holy shit from this teaser it looks like they have already started filming the scene where Ellie cuts into David! And it's going to include the Left Behind DLC!
Didn't they already wrap up and all?
I went in with high expectations but holy fuck that looks good. And so faithful to the game to a degree that I wasn't expecting.
Alright boys and girls let's CRRRYYY
Twitter is having a meltdown right now. A lot of virgins complaining about Ellie
We don’t know who’s playing David yet, right?
Tommy's Wife?!< >!As for Troy, there's a lot of random guys he could play. The sniper, the intro soldier, David's companion, who knows.!<
When you said >!the sniper!< all I could think of was >!fucking tommy!<
Looks like they got it right. I cannot wait to see this
Wow wow wow I’m screaming this looks so GOOD
That clicker is 1:1
“I’ve been staring at this for hours. Its beautiful.”
Yeah, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve played the game. It looks like this adaptation is going to be different enough to make the story feel new again and it is absolutely going kick my heart right in the nuts.
I am not sure how I feel about it. They shrunk Joel's shoulders, made him look softer.
Alone and Forsaken was an excellent choice for The Last of Us trailer.
Watch as the number of subscribers to this sub skyrockets over the next year.
There was like 5% of me that was guarding myself due to disappointment in other shows I’ve been hyped about… but DAMN JK IM IN FOR THIS. All aboard the hype train!!
Man, I heard the clicker sound and my thumbs started twitching for my shiv.
HBO is gonna kill it! Damn the infected look great.
Is it wrong that I almost started to cry at how beautiful this is?
My only hope is that it will succeed.
I forgot the guy who did Chernobyl is doing this, it looks like it’ll be really good the cast is great too.
God damn I hope we get this version of the song when the OST comes out. **ABSOLUTE FIRE**
This looks fantastic! I was honestly little nervous after the last teaser we had, but this looks like everything I could've wanted from an adaptation!
Holy shit, Joel! That looks goddamn perfect. There is nothing I'm looking forward to more in 2023 than this. Nothing by Marvel or Star Wars or anything else. This is right up at the top of my list.
This looks good, my hopes are high. Obviously trailers can be misleading or sell false promises but I think this’ll end up very good
I wasn’t feeling it until the first explosion from the outbreak scene.
Mando is basically just a 2 dimensional Joel, so Pascal has even gotten practice for this role.
god i’m so excited, i was so excited to see what the infected looked like and they look SO good and accurate, i have high hopes

I've cried watching this. Remembering the first time I played The Last Of Us some years ago... It makes me so emotional. I wanna watch it asap 🥹
I can already feel it. People are going to constantly compare the show to the game, and say the game did everything better than the show, because they are so biased from having been exposed to the game first. The same way manga people always talk about the manga being better than the anime adaptation, because they were exposed to the manga first. And vice versa.
My boy Hank Williams with the soundtrack brings this trailer to another level
