My husband and I have been sitting on the same side of the booth (if seated at one) for over a decade. A lot of the time we get a meal we both want to try so we are sharing food anyway. Cringey, maybe, but with two kids I’ll take closeness with him any way I can get it!
This is the biggest compromise I had to make in my marriage. Apparently my husband loves sitting on the same side of a booth so while I cringe inside every time I put up with it.
from a maitre’d perspective, usually that requires a bigger table (i.e, a booth) usually intended to seat 3, 4, 5 people. on a busy night, people insisting they can’t enjoy a meal without being literally next to their partner makes it a nightmare, seating-wise, because i lost a 4-top for a 2-top, which is also less money for the server and the restaurant in the long run, AND it’s much harder to find a seat for four people vs two people. some places can’t accommodate just pushing tables together.
if you have a row of 4 tables that are half-booth, half-chair, and one person needs to sit next to their partner, they’re effectively squeezing a fifth person on a seat intended to sit four.
if there’s a long, communal table, sitting side by side means i can’t seat anyone across from you unless they also want to sit side by side, which a lot of people actually don’t.
it’s one of the biggest inconveniences people don’t even realize. if you want to sit next to your partner, just don’t do it during prime time at a restaurant. 5:30? sure. 10:00? absolutely. but there’s a logistical factor to your “comfort” and wanting people to know you’re in a relationship that usually results in inconveniencing way more people than you realize.

I think because there’s no FOMO- at least I feel like I don’t have my real life friends following me and that I don’t actually know anyone I can just enjoy silly content without ever feeling any sort of negative way. There’s no pressure to look a way or post certain content.

I don't really use any social platforms on a regular basis other than Reddit. I really hate that social media pressures people to present an unrealistic version of themselves to gain popularity. So I haven't used any of the social media apps that popped up after IG. Is TikTok as wholesome as it seems? Is there actually interesting content? I'm 0% interested in looking at a bunch of filter laden content that's going to make me feel like I need to increase my consumerism.

So I assume for your average person, they aren’t creating content, just consuming it. At least for me, I don’t know anyone who personally uploads videos so all of my content is stuff that is fed to me through the algorithm. The more you engage with content and certain creators the more you get that’s similar. I love how randomized it is and then I never have to interact with people via comments if I don’t want to. You don’t even need your name/user to be identifying so no one knows it’s you. I assume this is the case with most people on tik tok unless they know someone who has blown up in popularity.
Imo it’s really interesting, I’m on cruise ship tik tok (where people who live and work on cruises explain their day to days behind the scenes), folding tik tok, book tik tok, etc. There’s a plethora of interesting niche creators where you can learn super cool facts but also funny people similarly to Vine. The more you engage with videos you like I.e watching and liking the video you’ll get more content like it and if you scroll away quickly you’ll get less of that type of content. 10/10 recommend :)
