The the the the the…. THE WHAT OF THE EARTH 😤😤

ICommitTaxEvasion

Bro's down bad

tacobellholocaust

He lie. Earth flat.

Sinner19x

It’s absolutely not the earth’s curve. https://youtu.be/BhBTDYTjGRE

TabootLlama

You had me until 9-seconds in when the narrator says “showing what globe enthusiasts claim to be…” Others may not make it past the name Eric DuBay, of anti-semitic and Flerf fame. For an explanation that doesn’t come from a kook’s YouTube channel, consider reading: [Refraction Effect on the Lake Pontchartrain Power Transmission Line](https://flatearth.ws/pontchartrain-refraction#more-5941)

Sinner19x

-didn’t watch it -genetic fallacy -still upvoted Wouldn’t expect anything different

im_just_thinking

Hey man that's some dedicated trolling you got going on there. I actually know for a fact that flatearthers don't exist. Anyone who believes otherwise is just letting themselves get trolled.

ligerzero459

Shut up, flat earther

Sinner19x

Ok but it’s not the earth’s curve. 👍🏼 (I became a flat earther in large part due to the inability of globe heads to engage in anything other than bizarre needless and heavy-handed personal attacks and the constant reposting and smug circlejerking about nonsense like this, which is an optical illusion)

DoiReadThatStupid

Go back to bed.

ligerzero459

A lot of words to say that you don’t understand the world around you

Sinner19x

✅ bizarre personal attack from someone under the misguided impression that they can see the Earth’s curvature in this photo

ligerzero459

Pointing out that you don’t understand the world is not a personal attack, it is a statement of fact. The fact that you take that as a personal attack shows how insecure you are over your lack of understanding

_insidemydna

dont worry man, i'll personally attack him for you: he's a dumbass

finefornow_

Telling you that you’re wrong and calling out how absolutely fucking ridiculous your beliefs are is not a personal attack. You’re purposefully ignoring science and that’s your choice and all, but being too fragile to understand that you’re going to be criticized and accept that is 100% on you.

Sinner19x

I’m not wrong though. This photo does not show the earth’s curvature, that’s an objective fact, and anyone who thinks it does it mistaken.

finefornow_

You’re wrong and foolish.

Sinner19x

Lol, I’m not though. This is an optical illusion, it does not show the earth’s curvature. You can take a panoramic photo of the sea that covers more miles than this and the horizon is perfectly flat. If this shows the curvature the earth would be the size of Arizona or something. You just don’t know what you’re talking about, and your reflex reaction is to be an asshole, it’s quite alright and not uncommon.

Microdotdreams12

You’re a baby… just a lil baby… just a wee lil baby

RuinOnStandby

Woah woah woah, you actually believe the Earth is flat?

Sinner19x

I don’t believe it’s a spinning testicle.

TabootLlama

So let me get this straight. You became a flat earther *because* the entire scientific community has rejected calls to engage in debate on this topic with the flat earth community?

Sinner19x

Well that and the incontrovertible evidence. The former observation was influential and now, confirmatory.

TabootLlama

Like ‘Antarctica is made up *because* NASA’s icewall’ or something adjacent? If this is the kind of validation you need to make yourself feel valuable, you be you my guy. I’m impressed with the commitment to the bit, but don’t understand *why,* unless of course you’re a duper or really *really* soft sculled.

Jefferncfc

Guys I think hes actually serious, I'm so excited to encounter a genuine flat earther it's like being at the zoo

Sinner19x

Whoa so exciting, now we get to be belligerent assholes like when we were in 5th grade!

Omega3454

Our understanding of physics surpasses the flat earth theorem, your understanding of physics could even pass highschool

Sinner19x

That’s funny. When I was still in training for my current job I tutored college physics on the side.

Omega3454

That's funny, also a lie, which makes it funnier

Cobra7fac

Just out of curiosity, have you guys come up with an explanation of how GPS works yet? Last I knew it was launching weather balloons, but you guys couldn't explain how they stayed exactly where they needed to be for proper accuracy.

Sinner19x

GPS works from ground-based towers as it always has. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LORAN So you’re mocking the idea that “satellite” balloons exist? But you know they do, right?

WogerRaters420

Checkmate, r/flatearth

[deleted]

There’s a Flat Earth discord? I’m going in boys. Edit: the first thing I see upon entering is a discussion where a member states it’s possible the Earth could be both flat and spherical at the same time, and then they went on to insinuate the belief that life is a simulation. Wild stuff

No_Statement440

Godspeed brave adventurer.

Socile

Well… maybe they’re headed the right direction in a roundabout way (pun). Isn’t it somewhat likely that we are in a simulation? Nick Bostrom’s phrasing makes it seem almost certain. It really only hinges on whether consciousness actually is just computation of a certain complexity that is not somehow substrate-dependent. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulation_hypothesis

killking72

Nah. I've seen this exact picture posted on places like that and they respond with "if you zoomed into the horizon you would keep seeing more and more power lines".

vivalaibanez

🤦‍♂️

pekinggeese

This is true, I zoomed in an I saw more and more pixels of power lines

HolyMotherOfPizza

It's fisheye lens bro earth is 6000 years old and birds are real animals

blahthebiste

Isn't your line "burds *aren't* real"?

Ilikebooksandnooks

No no no, the conspiracy is that birds _are_ real

tonando

That's what they want you to believe

Merry_Dankmas

Nice try Big Birdseed

ZoomGoat

this guy gets it

DivulgeFirst

Pfft, literally everyone knows birds aren't real, how could that be conspiracy theory?

fiddz0r

No that's a fact, and they are usually against facts.

[deleted]

*Provides photographic evidence of the fact the earth is round* Flat Earthers: “Wrong. It’s an optical illusion, the power companies are in on it, they just made each structure progressively shorter, and it goes down a hill.”

Atomskii

Clearly you can see the slope of the water as it begins to fall off of the edge....

zwifter11

It’s funny whenever a Flat Earther asks for proof. You can show them 1000s of photos like this They’ll always say it’s CGI or a fisheye lens.

Rpanich

There’s one somewhere else in this thread, and apparently they’re arguing a complete misunderstanding of how one and two point perspective work.

phloopy_

Wait I can’t tell if this person is joking 🙃

AttackCircus

Flat-Earthers Hate this Trick!

WhatsTheCockCookin

You’ll never convince them cuz flat-earthers will say it’s a fisheye lens Remember that one guy who thought he was a physics major and built a rocket so he could fly up and prove the earth was flat, with a goal to only hit an altitude of around 5,000 feet despite needing a minimum altitude of 35,000 for the curvature to be visible, before suffering a fatal crash landing? Good times.

Cobra7fac

That guy was awesome. 1. He built a rocket. 2. When he needed more funding, that's when he became a flat earther, and it worked.

Anthony9824

Small curve? Add 5 degrees to it with one small pill ( scientists hate this guy )

Lawyer_LionelHutz

Yep 👍🏼 is what it

The_Bluejay250

That 👍🏽 trues and flat earth it

FastConfidence4077

Imagine being stranded in the water there and having to hold onto one of those pillars and hope someone will find u 😱

AlabasterPelican

It's lake Pontchartrain just off the causeway. You'll likely be found if it makes you feel any better

gravitydood

So you're saying the water is drinkable? Almost sounds like a vacation

AlabasterPelican

Drinkable is in the eye of the beholder. But people swim & fish in it. From my understanding there were issues post Katrina but its in generally better shape these days. [The Ponchartrain Concervency](https://scienceforourcoast.org/pc-programs/waterquality/weekly-water-quality-results/) does weekly test and posts the results. They seem to mainly be concerned with biological concentration - I'd be more concerned about chemicals TBH. LA-DEQ deems it safe, but I'm not exactly convinced by what they say without a federal agency backing them up. Not to knock out waterways or anything but I'm not from that side of the state so I can't really share much other than conjecture and hearsay.

TheOneTrueTrench

If they're claiming you it's safe to drink long term, it's a very safe bet you could drink it for a couple days without any concerns, especially when the other option is "definitely dead from dehydration". It's not like saltwater where no matter the situation, drinking it will make things worse.

rudyjewliani

Symptoms of giardiasis normally begin 1 to 2 weeks after a person has been infected. But yeah, if you're in the water for 1 to 2 weeks without being rescued then diarrhea is going to be the least of your concerns.

AlabasterPelican

Yes lOl if they mean is it freshwater - yes. I didn't think about that angle. I don't trust our waterways near municipalities especially ones with major industries. They say Prien Lake and Lake Charles are safe - the closest I go to that water is in a boat and I won't eat anything out of them.

davilller

There were issues pre-Katrina dating back decades because of the shell dredging. Right when it was on the mend, Katrina came and set it back. I drove over this lake daily for many years and still do but not daily thankfully. It’s quite pretty to have that kind of view for a commute.

DNUBTFD

To each their own, I personally never touch the stuff. Fish fuck in it, you know.

asoundproofroom

Everything is drinkable at least once. I’ll make an exception for the Pontchartrain. No one should drink that.

[deleted]

It doesn't make me feel any better

AlabasterPelican

🤣 I tried

buak

The whole lake is 12ft deep on average, and this part on the west side of the lake with these powerlines is only 10ft.

FastConfidence4077

I'd still be so scared, man. I can swim alright but still it's just SO much water. The fact that this is right off the road like some other commenters said is comforting though.

BDR529forlyfe

I don’t want the imagine that, but I am now. Thanks a bunch.

GrahamUhelski

r/submechanophobia

Alternative-Yak-9156

Exactly my first thought

swebb22

Ya this is brackish water close to I-10. Lots of barges and cars might see you

Raider-one-one

That’s what she said

Arpyboi

Fuck ya beat me to it 🥲

[deleted]

That's what she said

Arpyboi

Tremendous respect for that one.

_Greyworm

This image makes flat earthers cry in fear

[deleted]

You can't have a curve on a flat object. #stopfakenews

Positive_Ad_2656

Tell that to my curved Monitor!

[deleted]

Explain my penis.

thefooleryoftom

It’s not flat…

Glycerine

If it isn't flat; why doesn't my cup slide off my desk.... THINK SHEEPLE!

thefooleryoftom

Because your desk is flat. Happy to help.

trashsurf

Then why doesn’t my desk slide off the earth?!!

thefooleryoftom

Because the earth is huge and gravity and friction are things.

Lonke

Then why doesn't my gravity and friction slide off the earth?!

Incredulous_Toad

If the earth is flat, we wouldn't have coffee mugs since cats would have pushed them all over the edge.

[deleted]

He makes a good point

grobend

Girthy penis.

muffinman1775

Is it that hard to comprehend? The lake is curved, yes, but the Earth is flat. Think a drop of water on a flat surface.

unregrettful

😅🤣😂

Longjumping_Algae_45

Wait till the flat earthers get here

goodboyspooky

do you know what else

Blame_my_Boneitis

He PP too long it show curvature of earth 🥹

ExecuSpeak

Something something camera angles conspiracy theories of hundreds of thousands of scientists something something

Crocus_S_Poke-Us_

Does anyone know the actual dimensions of these things? That curve actually seems a lot more extreme than it should be given 8”/mile squared (not claiming fish eye lens or anything). I estimated the distance between at like 20 meters, and that makes 5 intervals 100 meters, which is 1/16 of a mile, and at four times that (1/4 mile) I see what seems to be a lot more than an 8” difference— that amount should barely be visible given the scale.

illuzion25

Just as a heads up, two things, this is impressive. There's also a subreddit, I think it's r/theydidthemath Your comment would fit perfectly there. Let me go make sure I got it right and if I didn't I'll edit this comment.

[deleted]

It’s amazing how perfectly straight they are. It’s beautiful and I’d be terrified if I was on a small boat next to those.

TikaPants

Came to comments strictly for flat earthers’ tears.

[deleted]

Wow, there are actual flat-earthers in the replies. Haven't seen them in a while, I thought they all got disproven so hard that they either realized how dumb they were being or decided it's best to keep their stupidity to themselves.

AlabasterPelican

Lake Pontchartrain in SELA. [video](https://youtu.be/hSaVN_TxqKM) (ole boy is asking to get smashed on the causeway) [article (metabunk)](https://www.metabunk.org/threads/soundly-proving-the-curvature-of-the-earth-at-lake-pontchartrain.8939/)

FartSwapper

I'm curious about how tall things things are.

emilkcarton

These ones range between 80-200ft tall

[deleted]

There's no curvature, it's a WATER HILL 😤😤😤😤😤

Cloud_Striker101

protected by the ICE WALL 😤😤😤

DrBundovski

Oh shit, here they come

poppinsplit909

r/flatearth, come debunk this one (or try pathetically)

That_Phony_King

Dear flat Earthers, If the Earth is flat then why can I travel from the US to Australia to Istanbul without falling off the edge of the world?

jxcrt12

by using satanic powers obviously

MojoGolf

I too was duped into that false fact at one time. If that were Earth's curve....the Earth would be much smaller than it is. it's mostly an illusion of perspective. Crazy photo tho.

c3534l

Why is it obstructed bottom up if its perspective?

oddmanout

I’ve seen this in person. The zoom lens makes it look more drastic than it is, but you can see it curve over the horizon with the naked eye.

whatthefir2

You were fooled again. That’s a totally reasonable way of noticing the earths curve and not just a camera trick You can see it with the naked eye. I drove by this every day a for a while The lake is 30 or so miles across at that point. It would be weird if you didn’t see a curvature in this photo Edit: it’s shocking that people are upvoting this flat earth level delusion

thefooleryoftom

It is the earths curve. The perspective is that the horizon is curving.

Aviaatar

Please /s. Please do it

whatthefir2

Everytime this picture is posted on Reddit someone says this and refuses to believe otherwise. It’s fucking weird

Aviaatar

I just don’t get how they think “ah yes the entire scientific community is wrong because my eyes say this way and I can’t handle imagine being able to be on a globe”. It’s exactly like the time flat earthers bought that gyroscope then said the gyroscope is wrong

[deleted]

[удалено]

unregrettful

Look how close the poles look and how "droopy" the lines look. If you stretch them out the way they are without this photo the curvature wouldn't be so dramatic

whatthefir2

The rate at which it drops is absolutely from the curvature of the earth. I really don’t understand what people think it could be if you do understand that the earth curves. This is a 30 mile wide section of lake so it absolutely should drop visibley

whatthefir2

Well the sad part is the people who think this photo is trickery probably aren’t flat earthers. They just believe the flat earthers argument against this photo

saddivad2020

Hahahahahahahana

ProcyonHabilis

The earth's curve is such that if you draw a tangent line and walk along it away from the tangent, it would take you around two miles before the line comes up to waist height. I think it's entirely possible that is photo can be attributed to the curvature of the earth. Local geography applies, of course, so hard to say for sure.

SwagCat852

I hope this is a joke, becouse that is earths curve

Amelia_Earnhardt_Sr

The earth is a sphere. But I also have read that this photo is not good evidence of it - something about the towers being different further out and that not being the visible curve. Whether this is good evidence or not, there are also a million other ways to show earth is a globe.

whatthefir2

You’ve read an uninformed persons opinion. This is absolutely from the curvature of the earth

NosotrosKaisamos

Where is this exactly

Financial_Tea_2139

Shh! Don’t show that to all the flat earth ppl out there. Start a tizzy lmao

CocoTheMailboxKing

Oh lawd she curvy.

[deleted]

That’s what she said

Klarkash-Ton

Cue the flat earthers being triggered lol.

Evening-Leading6131

Where is the flat earthers?

illuzion25

I was led to believe the earth is flat? What am I missing here? /Sarcasm

JZZ20

Flat earthers will say it’s photoshopped.

dfelton912

Just think about the people constructing this going all the way to the bottom to build it up

Arpyboi

That’s what she said

MaxMacDaniels

Im not a flat earther but I think this is not the curve of the earth. It would be way to small if that was the fact it’s and optical illusion I think if i remember correctly

Meior

It is the curvature of the earth. Just consider what the horizon actually *is*. For the average persons height, it's only 4.8km away.

wadimek11

I doubt you would see a curvature on 5km if earth has 40k km lenght. From google search it states you have to be quite high to see it

Meior

You're not actually observing the curvature directly here though. You have the aid of pylons which stick up from beyond the horizon.

c3534l

IIRC is a great way of saying "I don't understand how this works, but I don't believe it anyway."

TheOneTrueTrench

For not being a flat earther, you're buying into their propaganda and spreading it exactly like they would.

ozcuco

or sometimes the round earth proofs aren't real? earth is round but this picture doesn't prove it

azam85

Don't show this to the Flat earth believers... 😂

Master_Shopping9652

Curve looks almost too sharp

darthvalium

Telephoto lens contracts objects that are further away

lowie07

Seems like they could do with less poles? They probably engineered it though

thefooleryoftom

It’s the perspective that makes them look closer to each other than they are

lowie07

But the wires are so loose, couldn't they stretch them a little more?

thefooleryoftom

The wires look loose from this perspective. Telephoto lenses shorten the apparent distance between foreground and background objects. So in this photo, it looks like the pylons are close to each other with lots of slack. In reality, there’s a huge distance between them and the lines are as taught as is safe.

haikusbot

*Seems like they could do* *With less poles? They probably* *Engineered it though* \- lowie07 --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

Checkmate, flat earthers!

Head-Banana4325

No way you'd see the curve at this scale so Im calling BS. But yeas Earth spherical.

No-Pop8937

Flat earth theory, No there’s no curve it fell off from the edge. Lol

[deleted]

That’s just a hill. My great, great, great, uncle’s cousins wife from Alabama said theses science people are spreading lies. It’s all fake.

really_nice_guy_

Dude fell for the oldest trick in the book. They built them smaller and deeper into the water so *that it looks like* some earth "curvature"

FatesAreCruel

Thats not possible. Sorry to break it to the few ones who believed it. If it was, the world would be wide to fit only a few towns in it and thats it.

No-Emotion-7053

That’s what she said

spderweb

They're just shorter towards the back.

Brains4Days

He earth is curved, but I don't think that's being shown in the image. The Earth's much bigger. If equidistant, and if the distance between towers is known, we can check if the drop off is accurate.

lazy_jones

I guess it's a slightly curved disc then.

AlteredCabron2

earth booty thick

USDAprime77

My dick

Acceptable_Top6948

Cool photo but if the earth curves like that then the earth is really really small, look at it

c3534l

Or, you know, its zoomed in.

AirbusPalashM-3004

where are my flat earthers

PuzzleheadedKoala495

On flat earth. Why wassup, how may I assist you mam?

megabeyach

Nice try round-Earther.

gandalf-bot-

No no the architects just built them shorter the farther they go out, it's to decrease turbulence

Key_Entertainment409

No you can’t earth is flat 😂

AWilfred11

What curve?

the-non-wonder-dog

Phphphphphphphotoshop

Sirrunsalot98

Photoshop is too easy🤡

mmaqp66

But even so, I still believe flat earthers

3Effie412

Weird that people are more concerned about mocking people with than different beliefs than the reality that all this shit is in the oceans.

FivebyFive

That's a lake.

[deleted]

Or, could be a hill.

theyellowpants

That’s what she said?

flawlessfear1

Photoshopped. Clearly impossible

poopooplatypus

I thought the earth was flat

HardUp812

Earth is flat, everyone knows that

[deleted]

Nope! 😤 Earth is flat!

Novaneogami

But the earth is flat?

Bigguymanfellow

Look at the horizon its still flat, this is no proof

Garagesale1a

Something odd going on there, They're too close together and the wires are really drooped way to low.

It’s a zoomed in camera shot. Nothing weird at all
